The Flora City Council met for the second session of the month on Monday The council approved the consent agenda, including the approval of the farmers market on Saturdays from 8A until noon starting on May the 6th and running through September 30th. They also approved the request from Kari Thackrey at the First Christian Church for the 7th annual Flora's 6K for Water. That event will be held on Saturday, May 20th. During the meeting, the council approved the appointments of Amy Allen and Anna Rounds to the Tourism Committee for 2-year-terms. The board also approved a resolution, appointing City Treasurer Abbie Orel as the City Budget Officer The council also approved a resolution to commit funds to unsewered communities IEPA Permit Application. They then entered into a work agreement with Fehr, Graham, and Associates as the firm will be working to build the new sewage treatment plant for the city. City officials believe the price tag on the new plant will be between $22 million and $27 million. The plant will use $5.2 Million in USDA grant money while borrowing the remaining expense at 2% interest over the next 40 years. The council approved the purchase of a 2018 Chevy Tahoe for the police department. The purchase was for $26,000 from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The board approved the purchase unanimously. Finally, the board heard a request for a variance at a property at 151 Willow. Troy Harland and Morgan Harland own the property and are requesting the variance so they can put up a privacy fence on their property. The council approved the measure unanimously.
