Flagstaff High School Coach Holly Jones Is Put On Paid Leave After Allegations Of Bullying Surface

Flagstaff High School girls soccer coach Holly Jones is on paid administrative leave and will be dismissed by the Flagstaff Unified School District if allegations of bullying are found to be true. The FUSD Governing Board made the decision this past Tuesday. Administration Attorney Don Johnson told the board that Jones sent “voluminous and repeated texts, email, verbal communications and personal interactions that she persisted in continuing, after repeated requests to stop.” Jones’ allegations did not come from a student or students. The administration hired a personal investigator to look into the allegations. Johnson said, “the investigation resulted in the findings and conclusions that Ms. Jones engaged in repeated acts of bullying, unprofessional conduct, repeated acts of insubordination and had repeated disregard for her supervisors’ directions in respects to certain issues.” He said in at least one instance, a person feared for their personal safety and called police. Johnson adds the, “violations include: bullying behavior, creation of a hostile work environment, creation of an untenable work environment with her superiors and a breech of her professional contract with the district.” Before the board discussed the allegations, they read many positive comments about Jones and her legacy as a soccer coach in Flagstaff. One of the comments came from former NAU soccer head coach Andre Luciano as he said “I have an incredible amount of respect for what she has accomplished during her time in Flagstaff and believe that she has been an incredible asset to the community.” Jones was an assistant coach under Luciano and went into the NAU Hall of Fame as a player in 2007. Jones was the AIA Small School Girls Soccer Coach of the Year in 2020 after the Flagstaff Eagles won the 4A state championship, which was her third state title as coach at Flag High. Jones has until July 23rd to appeal the board’s decision.
