CaroMont Health took delivery Thursday morning of its first shipment of a long anticipated new coronavirus vaccine. Mark Chaparro, director of pharmacy services at CaroMont Health, and Kristin Eginger, pharmacy operations manager, wheeled-in and cracked open boxes filled with vials of vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNTech shortly before noon. The first inoculations of the system's frontline healthcare workers will begin Friday morning, CaroMont officials said this week. While multiple companies have vaccines in some stage of development, Pfizer's was the first to be approved for emergency use by the Food and Drug Administration, a decision that came late last week. Since then, millions of vials of vaccine have been delivered to hospitals and healthcare systems nationwide.
