After hearing God's call, Garrison Jones re - turned to Seminole with his family and joined First Baptist Church as their new Executive Pas - tor. The Executive Pastor role that was ouered to Jones is a newly added position that will help "take the load ou" of stau members. Specifi - cally, he will oversee the missions program as well as the church's connect groups that meet on Sun - day mornings and groups that meet throughout the week. In order to stay moti - vated and focused on his various responsibilities, Jones remembers that he was called to take this role. He also reminds himself that every person he comes across could be struggling with their own issues, so it is important that he expresses a little bit of love, care, and en - couragement to each one of them. He continuously enjoys helping others be - cause he is able to see the joy and relief that it gives them. Initially, Jones be - gan his career as a high school math teacher and a coach, but in answering God's call, he made the decision to pursue a ca - reer in ministry. As some know, changing careers is a challenge in itself; however, Jones views it as a fun challenge that will ouer a lifetime of enjoyment. "My parents were both educators when I was growing up, so that's what I was comfort - able with, and it's what I was used to," Jones explained. "My college education was geared to - ward teaching, but then I answered this calling to become the Executive Pastor, and now I feel good and at peace." While he attended Lub - bock Christian Univer - sity for teaching, Jones also attended Bible classes at the University, which helped him be - come familiar with the ministry. Most of his Pas - toral training has been through hands-on experi - ences and he is currently pursuing a master's de - gree at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. "As a teacher, you have a set schedule, and hard - ly anything ever changes. But in Ministry, anything can happen any day," Jones stated. "Some - times I'll be reaching out and helping people in the community or getting the curriculum set up for our youth and kids programs. A lot of times we'll even go to the care center; the day-to-day is literally diuerent every day, but that's a good thing." Although Jones was unfamiliar with the role of a youth pastor, he has always been surrounded by inspirational and influential people. Some of his influences include his previous youth pastor Jase Waller, his parents, and most importantly his wife P.J. She has endlessly supported and encouraged Jones to pursue this path of becoming a Pastor.
