Marion School Board Chairwoman Nancy Thrower said Thursday that getting the funds is a good thing and will help the district offset some of the cost of an external operator for the 2021-22 school if the school does not make a C grade. Oakcrest has made D grades for several years. If it does not make a C by summer 2022, the school board will be forced to close the school or hire a charter school company to operate it. Evergreen Elementary School faced the same fate. Evergreen, which was slated to get a D this summer, was closed by the school board a few months ago. Those students were moved to other nearby schools.
