Against social media and the toxic culture. People could see 600dollar stimulus checks days before the final Runoff Senate elections. As georgias gop senators try to hold on to their seats and show support for President Trumps call for higher checks senator Kelly Loeffler telling fox, she tells with the president s push. I stood by the president 100 of the time. Im proud to do that. Axe slautly we need to get relief to americans now. I will support that. Jackie get straight to fox news correspondent Steve Harrigan in atlanta. He has more on this steve. Reporter jackie, early voting ends here tomorrow. You can see behind me some of those 2. 5 Million People who voted early, some of those ballots being sorted, opened and scanned. The two republican senators, Kelly Loeffler and david perdue trying to let no daylight in between their positions and President Trump. Both of them have publicly supported 2000 stimulus payment to needy americans. As the president continues to feud with other high level Georgia Republicans. He just a short time ago called for the resignation of georgias republican governor, brian kemp over accusations of Election Fraud are not being pursued aggressively enough here in georgia. The president as l last night i love the great state of georgia but the people who run it brian kemp or secretary of state dont have a clue. Nobody could be this stupid. Allows to find the crime and turn the state republican. The president will return to georgia on monday to the northwestern part of the state. Rural areass strong republican territory where turnout has been slow. He will try to drive the rural republican turnout for the two republican senators. Jackie, back to you. Jackie steve, im wondering if on the floor there are concerns with the past election that there was issues with voter fraud. Is it a little bit more after transparent process that youre seeing and does it seem orderly and do both sides have the opportunity to observe what is going on . Reporter observers are present. Cameras are present. It seems extremely orderly so far. Keep in mind that president ial ballot won by biden by 12,000 votes, was counted three separate times. They did a signature verification test, found one or two fraudulent votes potentially out of several thousand. Jackie . Jackie Steve Harrigan. Thank you so much for that. Really appreciate it. How much is the impact of battle over boosting stimulus checks in georgia with respect to voters there as more people head to the polls . Lets ask Georgia Republican congressman buddy carter. Congressman, you voted against the 2000 stimulus checks. Lets talk about that first. Well, first of all lets understand that i did vote against the 2000 stimulus check. I think 600 is good for right now but we can always go back and revisit that. It is not as if this is the last thing were going to do. If we need to we will revisit it. However, i just feel like that money can be better spent and help people in other ways. What we also did was to include 300 a week in unemployment. That gets the money exactly where it needs to be for those people who dont have a job. And stimuluses are not always what theyre cut out to be. They dont always stimulate the economy. So im just felt like there were other ways that we could, that we could get the money to the people and get it into our economy in better ways. Jackie okay. There are folks that you know agree with you with respect to that but what can you actually do to make sure that that money is going where it needs to be, it is not being used for wasteful spending . How does that picture look in 2021 . Well, one way is to increase the unemployment. We did that, 300dollars more a week through the end of march. That will help people who dont have a job. That is one way to do it. There are other ways that help. We put more money into mental health. We put more money into the vaccines. We put more money into making sure that the distribution is there, more money into making sure that were testing for the virus. We put more money getting schools open and Day Care Centers open. We did a litany of good things in this bill. So instead of just focusing on whether it is 600 or 2000, lets focus on the good things that we did in that bill as well. Dont forget the ppp, the Paycheck Protection Program that has been so, so successful and saved so many jobs and so many businesses. Jackie i was going to mention that. That is such an important part of the bill. It will bring relief to the Small Business owners in this country that are struggling. So that is one piece of the puzzle. 600dollar checks are for individuals at home to carry over the expenses but do you think, you know, the 600dollar checks, now there was discussion about 2000 checks is going to resonate with americans across the board . Well, naturally you know, 10 out of 10 people would prefer to have 2000 as opposed to 600. We all understand that but we have a responsibility in congress. How are we going to pay for this . That is another thing. Somebody, somewhere, sometime got to pay for this. That is incumbent upon members of congress to take into consideration as well. Look, i know there are people still hurting out there. I know there are still people in need. None of us are tone deaf to that. We all get it. Those of us who voted against the 2000 but again as i said earlier, we can always revisit that. We can always go back. It is not as if this is the final shot well have. Jackie no, it will not be the final shot because president elect biden said he wanted to see a smaller bill passed now. This would be a top priority for him when he and his his administration is something he will work on in some resort. Maybe slow and steady is the race. Maybe 600 now and they do something then that helps tide people over. Exactly. I think that is the thinking of most people, most members of congress in that you know, lets take it step by step. Lets put this out there. See how it works, then well find out what we need to do next. There is no question about that. Jackie when it comes to the fiscal cliff it, deeps me up at night, it keeps you up at night. The average person doesnt think how we will pay it back. Youre starting to see a lot of conversation in blue states about raising taxes because of the huge budget deficit problems that have been created as a result of the pandemic. So i think about what president elect biden will do. He said he wasnt going to raise taxes on people making less than 400,000dollars but do you think he will keep that promise. I dont. I dont see how he can keep that promise. It is a matter of time before we see if joe biden is our next president and appears he is going to be that he will break that promise. Typical democratic promise that is typically broken. Jackie well be watching. Great to see you. Thank you so much for your time today, sir. All right. Be sure to tune in to our live special coverage of the Georgia Senate runoff election. Neil will cover that 7 00 p. M. Eastern time. Dont miss it. Over in Colorado Governor Jared Polis is about to hold a News Conference as state Health Officials now suspect they found a is being case of the okay crown crone variant. Reporter jackie, the first case came to light yesterday. They believe they found a second local case after variant of the uk in colorado. According to county Health Officials in colorado, both confirmed case and new suspected case involved men working at the Good Samaritan society facility in simla, 45 minutes northeast of colorado springs. Neither are residents of elbert county. Both are residing outside of the county. There is no indication that this point the event gone beyond the facility and the larger community. Were expecting to hear more on all of this from the come governor in a press conference sometime this hour. Now the confirmed case is a man in his 20s who apparently hasnt traveled anywhere and so investigators are working on Contact Tracing to try to figure out who else might have been infected. It is believed this new strain to be as much as 70 more contagious than previous strains. But thankfully does not lead to more severe symptoms. Here is dr. Anthony faucis take how to combat the variant strain. If we really put a foot pedal to the floor and do all of the mitigation things, whether you have a highly transmissible strain or not, if you do that, youre going to dampen transmissibility. Reporter elsewhere in the country regular covid cases remain on the rise in certain states. December is proving to be the deadliest month since the on set of the pandemic. Roughly 65,000 people nationwide have perished so far this month alone. Surpassing aprils death toll of just over 60,000. California has been especially hard hit with more than two million cases. Hospitals are overflowing with patients especially in central and Southern California where icu capacity is now at 0 . Much to the dismay of many People Living in regions in california the strict stay at home orders have been extended at least february. Jackie, back to you. Jackie anita, thank you for that report. We were hoping it wouldnt get here but it seemed reasonable to believe it would only be a matter of time. In fact here it is. Thanks again for that. There is, excuse me, however, some good news on the vaccine front adding to good news were seeing in the markets today. Astrazeneca vaccine getting the green light in britain. This could potentially be the third vaccine approved here for emergency use in the United States. Lets get to former investment banker carol roth and market watcher scott martin. Lets talk about this, carol. It is certainly boosting the markets today. The Biggest Issue we have right now how we can tamp down the spread of cases whether there is a variant or not in this country the vaccines are going to be essential to that. You see astrazeneca getting approval overseas. Might be the next one get to us. That is good news and we want the light at the end of the tunnel to get closer. That is good news. Investors like to pay more for possibilities than realities and if you look at the news on the vaccine in terms of what is likely to come out that still positive versus what could potentially come out thats negative, i feel like a lot of this good news is already baked in and that there is much more of a chance, whether its supply chain disruption, whether it is the slow rollout of actually getting people vaccinated, whether it is the new strain. Whether they find out something doesnt work. I think that the negative news has much more potential future impact on what is going to happen in the markets than good news. I do just feel like a lot of this is already i can baked in. Jackie that is troublesome. Scott, you got green arrows. The dow up 162 points as we are speaking, nasdaq up 11 and are investors excited about the vaccine . Yesterday when we were on the fence about what is going to happen with stimulus checks, 600 or 2000 they werent as optimistic, making taking some profits. What do you think is motivating the Investor Base out there today . Investors are excited and i think they should be but you used the word troublesome, jackie, and i think what is also troublesome, investors to carols point are not looking anything bad to happen. If you look at bullishness, take the average analyst or average commentator the bullishness is running wild today. When were pot looking for something negative when the negative news comes up to deliver quite a punch. With respect how markets go Going Forward leaning up to the vaccine saturation in society there will be a slow meltup. I think like a three stooges poster i had once upon a time, okay now were out in the world, now what . Now that we have the vaccine everything is effective and hopefully the economy is fully open to the capacity which it was prior to covid, what do we do now . I think that is when markets come back to a lit of reality when we get there. Jackie carol, it is interesting we were in such an interesting year with the pandemic, markets are recovering, looking to reopening, getting back on track. Real low Interest Rates are pushing more mon new in these markets. A market in the wall street journal talking about investor appetite for ipos. 167 billion raised for new listings on u. S. Exchanges this year. That is phenomenal. On one hand i would say investor dont have anywhere else to put their money . Yeah. Also as a former investment banker i always like to tell the dirty secrets. What do you do when youre concerned that maybe the markets are not going to be as strong in the future you call your clients, you say, now might be a really good time to sell your business. Now might be a good time to get public. As you look about where we are today very russ where we are in 2019 and what is happening in the market i imagine there are a lot of people who made that call, not to say that there arent a lot of Fabulous Companies that went public this year but there definitely is going to be some concern about the opportunities to this Going Forward and i think thats why in the year that we had, that you said more than 100 increase in ipos. The market is just so disconnect from the economy it is unbelievable. Jackie it will be interesting to see what happens in january, how investor internalize all this information and start to think of their strategy for next year. Guys, you will stick around with us. See you later in the show. Appreciate your time today. Coming up big push to recall governor gavin newsom bringing big bucks in. Why many are calling for major changes to the golden state and its leadership. Its moving day. And while her friends are doing the heavy lifting, jess is busy moving her xfinity internet and tv services. It only takes about a minute. Wait, a minute . But what have you been doing for the last two hours . Delegating . Oh, good one. Move your Xfinity Services without breaking a sweat. Now thats simple, easy, awesome. Xfinity makes moving easy. Go online to transfer your services in about a minute. Get started today. Amazing theyre breaking the people who own these Small Businesses. You listen to the stories on tv, pathetic. Thats it. Jackie a campaign aimed at recalling democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom gaining some momentum after receiving six figure donations from a Consulting Firm and a Venture Capital company. Joining me now, former chief of staff to republican senator mike lee, boyd matheson, also radio show host eat ethan berman. Gavin newsom has problems out in california but lockdowns dont seem to be the anecdote to that. You have struggling businesses, especially restaurants say we got the outdoor space. We made all the adjustments. We want to do business and do it safely. Potentially keeping peep at home you spread because people are doing things in their houses not protecting themselves. That is an interesting indication where people are in terms of their frustration with government across the board, not just in california but across the country. So many mixed signals. Governor newsom saying one thing, Everyone Needs to be home, being out in other places having party, eating at restaurants himself. So that disconnect between the people and those that are governing is what is driving nextwave after populist movement. Obviously its a long shot to be sure. They have to get two million names, signatures in order for that to be viable to get enough validated but the money coming in shows there is some momentum behind it. Of course it is only worked once out of about 50 or 55 times it has been tried in california. Last time was gray davis, the successful one with Arnold Schwarzenegger coming in. With as many sequels as the terminator had maybe there is one more sequel coming in 2021. Jackie yeah. Ethan, the latest i saw the judge gave them three months to get the two million signatures. They have about half of them so far. With respect to the donations, were talking about 500,000 from the Consulting Firm and also one hundred thousand from Sequoia Capital there is serious backing for this. I will add to that the hypocrisy of gavin newsom dining out selling people when they shouldnt. Wasnt wear a mask. And nancy pelosi telling everybody to stay home and she wasnt. That fuels the fire. Look, the republicans have been desperately trying to do anything to recover from their abject failures in the state of california. Look the party is decimated itself here in the state of california. Gavin newsom won by 25 points over his competitor in the 2018 Gubernatorial Race whereas boyd correctly points out gray davis was in a very tight Gubernatorial Race back in 2002, people like club for growth did excellent job painting him in the a cornerback when republicans focused on things like economic messages antiscience messages antiimmigrant messages that caused father to become a extreme minority with no hope pass they continue with their messages. Gavin newsom did something many of us on the left are still ticked off about with that French Laundry Marie Antoinette incident. Mayor london breed in san francisco. Sheila gruel, california superivsor. None of us like that stuff. Gavin newsom is a very shrewd politician who became governor not because he accidentally did it but he knows exactly how to approach these things. A couple hundred thousand dollars behind a recall effort is not going to go very far. It is a fever dream of the republicans right now. Jackie boyd, i have dont know about that because im looking at blue states right now how the governors and mayors of certain cities have handled the pandemic. Youve got people leaving in droves. Theyre going to red states where they dont have to pay state income tax in many cases. You know, and they know why theyre leaving. They might still bring their blue vote to those red states but having said that, they dont want to be in new york. They dont want to be in california. And that is going to take a toll. Yeah. I think it will take a toll to be sure but i think were right in terms of where Governor Newsom is going to be. He is absolutely shrewd. He knows how to cut his way through the political chambers for sure. The interesting thing, i will be an equal opportunity offender on here i think many on the right who are falling into the same trap of being disconnected from the people. It is easy to shout the populist rallying cries. It is really tough to govern. So those are the things that will ultimately play out and determine not just what happens in california. They may get enough signatures t will be a tough battle if theyre ever going to have a chance to move Governor Newsom out but i do think there are messages that are important for both sides to reckon with. That is that we have to have a different kind of conversation. It is easy to shout populism stuff from the right or from the left. It is really hard to govern. What the country is looking for up and down the ballot are for people to actually govern around lead. The American People want to be led but they want to trust leaders, strong leadership, so important. Thank you for your time today. Great to see you both. Happy new year. Jackie you too. Still ahead this hour restaurants getting creative to get some of their customers back. Grady trimble has got a preview for us. Grady. Reporter hey, jackie. One restaurant outside of chicago is actually using rvs as a dining space. Grady trimble is there with a look for us. Reporter hey, jackie. Yeah, these rvs they stay put right here at the chatter Box Restaurant and they call this camp find a way. Like a lot of restaurants across the country the folks here at the chatter box are trying to find a way to keep staff safe, keep employees on the payroll, keep people coming to dine with them. This is what they have done. This is normally the patio area in the summertime. With a fresh layer of snow on the ground, you wouldnt want to dine on this. Mike the owner here, you and your wife like rving. You were going to all the different restaurants. You said why dont we find a way to help the guests experience that same type of thing . Absolutely, absolutely. Were avid rvers. We went to restaurants. We had the fresh feeling, safe food and healthy environment and we had to find a way to keep our i am proes and customers going. Reporter throughout the winter weve seening glees and other ways restaurants are keeping open. I have to say this takes the cake. The air is very fresh. Brought in from the furnace. Ran through the uvs, exited through the exhaust fan. Every seven minutes the air is turned over here. The healthiest environment you can have. Reporter what has the reception been so far . It is great. People really love it. Were happy to keep going and keep feeding long grove and chicago. Reporter its a great idea. We should mention sunny island is the r h rv dealership you partnered up with. Have you sold any of these yet . Can customers buy them. Absolutely. Theyre out here. The staff is educated. Sunny island has given them commission if they sell them. We have a couple going already. Reporter ingenuity of restaurant owners. Jackie giving back to those indeed, cofounder of a Skin Care Company launching a one Million Dollar Grant Program to help small minority owned businesses in Los Angeles County keep the doors open amidst the pandemic. Dermlogica owner joins me. Great to see you. Start the need for of the grant you put together. Why do minority Small Business owners are having more trouble . Well minority Small Business owners are the least likely to receive any funding or apply for any loans or qualify for any loans. So what we know through our work with founder a initiative we choose out yearround with small entrepreneurs l. A. Has been hard hit. We have highest number of closures of Small Businesses in the country and when we talk about Small Businesses it is important to remember half of all the jobs in the usa are created by Small Businesses this is a long tale of job creation. So we had huge shutdowns in los angeles. Small businesses have been badly affected by the pandemic and especially underserved communities that need their Small Businesses, not just as job creators but also the community glue. Without Small Businesses in our neighborhoods we would have dull places to live in. We need the entrepreneurs in our city. Jackie the photo wrap were showing, Small Business owners youre talking about, not just Los Angeles County. They are the backbone of this country. Which is why it is so important to get them aid. With respect to the Million Dollar grant you put together, how did you find funding for it . We funded it ourselves through our Nonprofit Initiative the Wind Foundation and Key Initiative is found l. A. , which is our reaching out to Small Businesses. We support them, coach them, educate them and provide loans. This is not a loan. This is a funding opportunity. So this is not a payback that has to come back. It is grants. We have pledged to grant a Million Dollars in funding to Small Businesses. Our first round closed, we had over just under 2 1 2 thousand Small Businesses apply and the next round opens on january 11th. Go to and apply. It is lottery system. Were awarding grants between 5000 and 25,000 to qualifying Small Businesses. We want to help our small entrepreneurs and local businesses stay, they need a bridge between now and when we come through this. Otherwise they wont be around. We want to make sure there are as many of them as possible as we can. Jackie that is true, jane, and its remarkable to see big business helping Small Business. Congratulations, good work. We wish you the best of luck with this. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Thank you. Jackie all right, still ahead, one prominent gop leader crowning 2020 the year that socialism went mainstream. Why my next guest questions how anyone could believe in socialism after watching the government in action this year. Really sad to see how quickly people can turn ideas and how all the country went to the left with this radical progressive ideas that destroy a lot of people, a lot of countries. Jackie indiana congresswoman elect victoria sparks sounding off about the push towards socialism after she moved to the United States from ukraine. This as former u. N. Ambassador nikki haley is crowning 2020 the year socialism went mainstream. So what can happen if the push towards the far left gains more steam in 2021 . Back with carol roth and scott martin. Carol, you say you question anyone who is watching the government in action who Still Believes in socialism . Yeah. You must be reading my twitter stream, jackie. It is absolutely amazing after this past year everything that went wrong went wrong because of government intervention. Everything that went right went right because of at least the private sector in some semblance of capitalism, maybe not full capitalism. But when you look at whats happened with Central Planning, there is more and more power and concentration and spending across the board at every single level and it is moving us further away from capitalism and it is to our economic detriment and it is to the detriment of our freedoms and what makes america so unique and why people risk life and limb to come here. Nobody is trying to escape capitalism to go to a socialist country. Jackie that is interesting, scott. The democrats are trying to rebrand socialism. If you speak those words it could spook people, especially people from other countries who have lived through it and seen it happen and seen that it is actually gradual through policies that slowly but surely start to creep in and start to take over. So theyre backing away saying dont use that word anymore. Weve got to sort of call it progressiveness and focus on that aspect of it. You know there are people, scott, who will say, oh, it can never happen in this country. We will never be socialists. And there are others say never say never because in other countries it happened overtime too. It did, jackie and i would argue were closer to socialism in the United States than we have ever been and the reasons for that are many. Wouldnt totally blame joe biden some of that but it certainly could be and i think as you talked about, look at some of those countries, look at the lack of economic progress they have had over the last decades. Look at liberties taken away, the freedoms like you talked about, many of the citizens who have been fortunate to lead have fled them for reasons theyre in. To me you have to be very careful where we go Going Forward coming out of the statist covid19 pandemic and what we do Going Forward to unlock the entrepreneurial spirit, reward the capitalis c tu of ofhefffyste we w w bltui re pefuhopey futhat ifuthfuomsng tg lookbeoktterben tayhehehe it lo s lo i i i ier ing,ti rocaongressmsmct e e with ththotthotheth g m g grsomenomom le mmabersemin t sqd, y will, aryndndnd duca etete peoplndplndplpleak se thatthheatyth reallyller udhattt u u uhe u ahereyhe vin vg vorow s i the i askg fin wheorn ere sdeorrs fmprsle. Ontonon ey beyieveie in in unico unissnd fafas, tfahes, dtt belvevenn man namatun ren reha is the interesting thing about capitalism that really harnesses human nature while socialism pretends it doesnt exist. We need to rebrand. We can call it Central Planning. Anything that consolidates power, anything that uses force and control and coercion versus free markets because capitalism has got a bad name too. Free markets, freedom, choice, decentralization, we are always going to have more prosperity, well be aligned with individual rights. It is going to protect the smallest minority in the entire world which is the individual if we move towards more free markets. If we move towards Central Planning you will have less and less of that. Unfortunately if you give a little we know it ends up being a lot because, like people say, people are greedy and people in the government are greedy. Unfortunately you have to deal with them. Jackie real quick, scott, when it comes to the stock market. Were watching it go high every and higher comes in part to the policies where President Trump submitted even amidst to the pandemic. You will clank that around, throw colt water on this affect people who are not just investors but people with the 401 k s too. Tax cuts were a boon to Economic Growth and stock prices. Those are threatened to be going away. All this debt we created last, not just say the last few years, certainly the last couple decades will come home to roost. Well have to pay for that with more regulations and more taxes. Jackie guys, thanks so much for that. Jackie a path of destruction left behind from the nashville bombing, not only affecting businesses but still impacting telecom and Internet Services as well. Edward lawrence joins us with new questions about the security of the United States infrastructure. Edward . Reporter jackie, that blast in nashville took one Internet Communications hub down, shocking many that the effect spread throughout the southeast region. The lines went down disrupted communication from georgia to kentucky, funneled into the Communications Lines that went down, not only the internet but 911 centers, hospitals, nashville airport and mobile phones. Reporter these hubs were built before anyone thought about attacks. Many before services crossed state lines. Schmidt says states should move the hubs out of metropolitan areas and away areas less than sick feet from a public street which cant be proteched. It may cost a lot of money but it is a smaller cost than if another hub goes down. Jackie. Jackie a lot to watch in the new year to protect these systems. Edward, thank you so much. There are new tensions with china over jailing after chinese journalist who reported on covid in wuhan. Secretary of state mike pompeo calling for her release. To the Heritage Foundation Vice President of national security, Lieutenant Colonel james carafano. Always great to see you. The prc has an interest in suppressing a voice like this that was actually attempting to try to tell the truth about the pandemic and its impact in china. There have been many who questioned the numbers that were reported by the government there with respect to the coronavirus. And there are a lot of Unanswered Questions here . This again is a really powerful reminder of the fundamental premise of how the chinese regime operates. Under a concept they call Civil Military fusion. Which means every instrument, not just of government, but every instrument of the power of the country is subservient to the Chinese Communist party and serves interests of the party. Primary interest of the party is its own maintenance of its own power and expansion of power and authority. So when youre negotiating, dealing with china you have to fundamentally understand this. Everything could go back to the Chinese Communist party. They have one interest and it is theirs. David when secretary pompeo makes a Statement Like this that the journalist should be released you dont expect the prc to follow along in lockstep with that request but it is making a statement to say, you know, to echo President Trumps tough stance on china, which is that we are not going to tolerate this anymore but you know, do you worry that with a new administration coming in, that that will all fall by the wayside . Well, first of all i think that this administration was really correct. When the chinese crossed the line, either violating our interests or the civil rights and human rights of their own people that calling them out on it is incredibly important, even if you cant do anything because it puts them on notice and it really puts the rest of the world on notice if youre dealing with these people, be honest, recognize who youre dealing with. You raise a good issue with the Biden Administration, if the notion is problem was with trump, we have to figure out a way to recalibrate the relationship with china, china will interpret that as weakness. They will interpret that as the United States is essentially giving in. And really would start this, Biden Administration off on the wrong foot to back off the policies that we have now. Jackie there is two issues here, right . President elect biden was formerly Vice President biden under an Obama Administration that really did not take a tough stance at all. So you wouldnt be surprised if the leaders in china are sitting back and saying oh, here we go again. They are going to be lax. I was talking to gordon chang this week who says typically Incoming Administration has sort of a coolingoff period as you mentioned to recalibrate. It could be 12 to 18 months. China is saying we have some time to get our ducks in a row here and recalibrate themselves because President Trump hit them pretty hard. The Biden Administration would start off with number of strikes against it. One is, bringing back all the old obama people. It is essentially obama 3. 0. Their policies demonstrably failed. Bringing back the same people that implemented failed policies doesnt start you off in a good place. Rejecting trumps foreign policy, even with china is quite good, saying i will do the opposite of trump. That is a problem. Gordon hit on the third piece, look the administration will do whatever administration does when they come in, they will focus on domestic issues. That will leave a lot of open running for china and things they want to do off the bat, the climate which empowers china, the iran deal which empowers iran. This will likely make enemies more likely to be aggressive. They will create a lot more challenges for themselves by essentially trying to warp back four years to a failed foreign policy. Jackie it is ironic, when he was campaigning the president elect ripped a page out of President Trumps playbook, i will be tough on china. All of sudden were not hearing that much about that. So there is a lot remains to be seen here. James, great to see you. Have a happy new year. Happy new year to you. Jackie tech stocks soaring this year but do they face a big test in 2021. They will break down what if with respect to that scenario after the break. Excuses. Were all guilty of making them. Those are advanced poses. Thats why at cvs, were making not making excuses a little easier, with the vitamins and supplements you may need. Now get a 10 gift card when you spend 30. Cvs. Healthier made easier. Jackie welcome back hour two of coast to coast. Im jackie deangelis. Our top story of the day, 2,000 stimulus checks in limbo as Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell pushes a mashup measure of stimulus checks and President Trumps demands on Election Fraud. We have the latest from washington. David . Reporter as i sit here and speak to you, some americans are logging on to their bank accounts, finding out they got 600 direct deposits as part of those covid relief payments that President Trump signed into law. Some may get them by mail. This is a time right now where President Trump, though, and House Speaker nancy pelosi are on the same page. They want to up the ante to 2,000. Senate Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell is proposing some legislation where he will entertain the idea of 2,000, but as you mentioned, hes tying it to several other things. He combines it with other priorities of the president. Mcconnell says okay, we will give you the 2,000 covid checks but you have to vote to repeal section 230 of the Communications Decency act which protects Big Tech Companies who censor speech online. The president says Companies Like twitter and facebook unfairly censor republican perspectives. Mcconnell also wants a study of the integrity and security of the 2020 president ial election. Democrats call the Election Integrity and section 230 parts of the package poison pills. They want a straight up or down vote only on the 2,000 covid payments to the American People. Minority leader Chuck Schumer tried yesterday with no luck. Were seeing right now leader mcconnell trying to kill the checks, the 2,000 checks desperately needed by so Many American families, by tying them completely to partisan provisions that have absolutely nothing to do with helping struggling families. Reporter some democrats and republicans are looking to override the president s veto of the National Defense authorization act. This is a separate issue but its tied in because everythings wrapping up here at the end of 2020. Senator Bernie Sanders floated the idea of holding up the veto override unless senators vote on direct payments for covid relief first. Jackie, this afternoon at 3 00 p. M. , Senate Majority leader mcconnell will be speaking on the floor but a lots going to go on over the next few days. We could see an override of that ndaa veto come on saturday. On sunday, the new congress is sworn in. Senate and house. Two days after that, the georgia runoffs take place. Buckle up. It will be fun. Jackie thank you, david. Really appreciate it. Less than one week away from the Georgia Senate runoff elections and the Senate Balance of power hanging in question here, and so are a lot of other key issues like education reform. Hillary vaughn in wilmington, delaware, with those details for us. Hillary . Reporter well, Student Loan Debt is on the ballot in georgia. Thats what Democratic Senate candidate Raphael Warnock told a group of College Students this fall while at a campaign stop, and the other democrat on the ballot, jon ossoff, tweeted this earlier this month. Quote, im going to vote for Student Loan Debt relief. A lot of of it. President elect biden says hes open to student loan forgiveness but he wants congress to be the one to do it. When he introduced his secretary of education last week, he said debt relief is part of his legislative plan. It includes forgiving debt for undergraduate public tuition if youre earning less than 125,000 a year. It includes it means immediately forgiving 10,000 in student debt in the midst of this economic crisis. Reporter senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren and other progressives in the Democratic Party are pressuring biden as president to use his executive authority to erase up to 50,000 of debt, Student Loan Debt, for every american but biden is not on board, telling the Washington Post last week this. Quote, im going to get in trouble for saying this, its arguable that the president may have the executive power to forgive up to 50,000 in student debt. Well, i think thats pretty questionable. Im unsure of that. I would be unlikely to do it. But democrats, if they take control of the senate and have control of the house, they may not need president elect bidens executive authority in order to get it done. Biden himself has not said that he would go as far as to veto a bill that congress would send him if it did call for forgiving up to 50,000 in student debt. He just doesnt want to be the one to do it. Jackie . Jackie hillary, thank you so much for that. Of course, as you mentioned, president elect biden is going to face some pressure from the left to bring this issue of forgiving Student Loan Debt to the forefront of his agenda, but the question of course is with the u. S. National debt skyrocketing, we have it up for you there, at the highest level since world war ii, should Student Loans top the priority list . To American Action Forum President and former cbo director, doug holtsegan. We have a lot on our plate as we are getting through this pandemic and we are not through the woods just yet. Is this the time to start giving stuff away . I dont think so. No. It makes perfect sense to borrow money to undertake measures that are effective in countering the virus and helping the economy recover more quickly. I dont think anyone would dispute that. But to add on these items that have nothing to do with that is not a good precedent and certainly, forgiving past student debt does nothing to improve educational outcomes. It leads people to think they dont have to pay back debt in the future so it exacerbates the problems we have with the Student Loan Program and the Research Shows its a bigger windfall for the affluent tlhan for the poor. Its hard to understand why this is such an attractive idea. You burn the taxpayers and dont accomplish anything in higher education. Jackie especially at a time when we are dealing with the pandemic and with so much spending. We cant talk enough right now about stimulus and folks are getting checks. Somebody is going to have to pay this money back and it seems like when it comes to the conversation that the democrats have, they just dont worry about that. Its really quite remarkable. Theres sort of this casual invocation of the need, for example, free college Going Forward. Should just be free. The United States entered this pandemic with an unsustainable budget outlook. It will exit with the highest level of debt in National History and an unsustainable future outlook. To add on spending programs to the existing problems, social security, medicare, medicaid, Affordable Care act, the big entitlement programs that growing much, much faster than revenues just doesnt really add up in the most fundamental sense. Jackie when it comes to education, you cant just make everything free, right. People have to have some skin in the game. Thats what Student Loans are designed for. I would say the bigger issue seems to be how Costly College tuitions are and would there be some way to try to reform the system in that regard to make it more affordable for students so they can get their loans, they can get their education, they can get a job, and they can pay it back, right. That teaches some sense of responsibility. I agree with the incentives. Its also true that having free college wouldnt do one thing to change the quality of the higher education. It wouldnt improve time to completion. Takes too long for kids to get through school. It wouldnt assist in having students be ready to go to college. This is about some sort of putting the money on the taxpayer but not really solving the underlying problem. Thats the real difficulty with this discussion. Jackie its interesting because with the cost of college today, you know, people often ask maybe youre better off learning a trade, a skill, some sort of craft, because you have so many students coming out of college not able to pay the debt back and not able to get a job, either. Well, certainly we have seen a revival of interest in training programs, apprenticeships, teaching people skilled trades. That is the appropriate career path for some people. Not everyone is cut out to go to college and get a liberal arts education, for example. So having a better set of choices and a more affordable set of choices i think is much more important than this government financing involved with different education options. Jackie great to see you. Happy new year. Thanks so much. Happy new year. Thank you. Jackie stocks in record territory today. Stayathome stocks, of course, and tech stocks were the ones we saw soaring this year. But what if those stocks face challenges in 2021 . Things are definitely going to change a little. To bankrate chief financial analyst greg mcbride and real clear markets editor, john tamney. Great to see you both. Greg, lets start with you. It was the zooms of the world and amazons of the world that came to our rescue during the pandemic and they were the ones that really soared but as we start to work our way out of this, do you think tech is going to cool off in the new year . I think there are some risks, jackie, in the sense that earnings have to live up to expectations. Valuation is going to come into play at some point and then in some sectors, particularly with like social media, for example, theres this whisper of regulation and so i think all three of those are things that could maybe not prevent growth, but just be a catalyst for more volatility if you are going to see appreciation. Its not going to be at the pace you saw in 2020 and what appreciation you get might just come with the pain of a little more ups and downs on the way. Jackie it was remarkable because of the pandemic, the social media companies, the Big Tech Companies, google, facebook, amazon, we saw a little bit of them testifying on capitol hill this year but not as much as we thought we would, presumably that will happen in 2021 and they will be in the hot seat, so if we see a new wave of, you know, targeting these companies and we know regulation takes some time, but even that they are under the microscope, that kind of scrutiny, you think these stock prices pull back . Well, its two different things. Lets never forget that markets are looking to the future, so in terms of the needless and economywrecking lockdowns, the idea that investors havent priced in an end is a bit of a reach. The markets know that eventually these things will end and the companies, i think they just covered a newfound appreciation for their ability to meet the needs of the customers. Now, the antitrust concerns are a different thing. Lets hope not. Lets hope reason prevails. Lets never forget that google was a big leader in the zoom kind of technology not too long ago. Google play. Then zoom took over. Rest assured within a few years, zoom will have been eclipsed by someone else. Lets never forget, you were teased in the year 2000 if you owned amazon. Now you want to own it. In an economy as dynamic as the United States, we dont need government to step in and wreck companies. What happens is Market Forces replace them all the time on their own. Jackie you bring up a great point with respect to amazon because generally i agree with you that we see Companies Come on to the forefront and there is a certain amount of saturation and their business will cool off after a while but greg, man, you look at a company like amazon and jeff bezos just keeps expanding out into all these new categories and territories and just keeps growing. Its really remarkable, what he has done here. It is. And you know, from the shareholders perspective, what you saw for years was that they reinvested in the business, in the expansion, so you know, for a lot of years, they were posting losses simply by virtue of the fact they were investing in other areas. So now that shareholders are bearing the fruits of all those investments because now you have all these different lines in the water and theyre just reeling in bigger and bigger fish. Jackie yeah. Also, we are looking at 2021, and we are thinking about a new administration coming in, we are going to be seeing all kinds of new regulations rolling back President Trumps, some of the things he did to make it easier to do business, we will see a rolling back of that and maybe harder restrictions, for example, with respect to Climate Change regulation, that kind of thing, and also new tax policy as well, so you know, investors that have ridden this market up to 30,000 almost 500 points on the dow, are they in for a rude awakening . I dont think so. And i base this on no matter what happens in georgia, the democrats dont have a big enough margin to push through major and confiscatory tax reform. They cannot do that. Biden was not given that mandate. The house is very close to split. The senate would be split even if the republicans lose those two seats so there will be enough democrats that cannot vote with for new policies and keep their jobs. Im not too terrified of that. We will have divided government and thats beautiful for markets and Economic Growth. Jackie thats one of the reasons we do see green arrows. Gentlemen, thank you so much for your time today. Appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you. Jackie all right. With people itching to travel and the Airline Industry eager to get back on its feet, could a covid passport be the answer . A group of Tech Companies are developing coronavirus passports that will have airport travelers show proof that they have been tested negative or that they have been vaccinated. Jeff flock is at Ohare Airport in chicago. Jeff, i imagine this would ease a lot of tension. Reporter well, it would ease some tension, although some people question whether, you know, you are going to force me to basically come up with this passport and prove i have either been vaccinated or that im covidnegative to travel . It could happen. Obviously they make us wear a mask now if we want to travel so maybe we are going to have to prove it. Well, the way we prove it is perhaps through an app on your smartphone. Take a look at one called common pass. Its now being developed and essentially what it does is it links that app with your Coronavirus Vaccine and testing history. So you can go to the airport perhaps, open the app and show that you are legally able to travel because you had the vaccine or you are negative. Now, as you know, companies tend to do this already. They do it with apps like the one here on my phone. Ive got it because i happen to work for a company that does that, but that is an app that provides data by what i provide to them. That is to say, they ask me have i had any symptoms, have i got a fever. Thats a way that you could do it, but that doesnt prove it. I could be lying about that. Well, this app would actually link it to an actual proof that youre covidnegative or that you had the vaccine. One other thing. We are talking about airports and right now, in the last several days, we have had some pretty good attendance at the airport, if you will, but more than a Million People passing through tsa checkpoints over the past four days, but thats still way below what normal is. The airlines obviously would like to get more people in those seats. This could help with that. It could also help at sports venues or live theater events, where you can affirm that youre safe and so you can go in and mingle with folks that you also know are safe. Could be a big game changer, perhaps as we move forward. Jackie . Jackie it could be also more layers and more hoops to jump through, but that is the world we live in. Jeff flock, thank you. Reporter we got plenty of those. Jackie all right. Meanwhile, apple is teaming up with a Health Startup to enable covid19 tracking in the apple wallet. This could speak to jeffs report there. The offering will first be introduced in Los Angeles County. The ceo joins us now. Great to see you. Tell me exactly how this would work and how it would make my life easier. Thanks for having me. Healthv healthvana helps Health Providers communicate with their population. We have helped deliver six million test results for covid19 across the country to employers, universities and such. Before that, our work had been toward ending hiv where we delivered almost 20 million results with the most Sensitive Data by way of hipaa. We have experience in doing this kind of work. Specifically how its going to work in Los Angeles County, we are not partners with apple on this specifically, we are partnering with l. A. County, what happens is lets say you get a vaccination and or covid test. What would happen, you would get a text or email, and thats superimportant, you are opting into wanting to get this, you will get a text or email on your phone, you click on the link, enter your name, date of birth and within a few seconds you will have access to digital record of what it is. Now, the difference between the paper that you would get through vaccination and this is that its important to build a house in a way it doesnt fall apart or has bad writing on it. We also send reminders when to come back in for the second shot. The idea is you can click on a button to put this in your apple wallet and eventually your google wallet. The first order of problem we are solving is very much the idea of having something beyond just a piece of paper that you can have at your fingertips as a patient. We dont use the term passport or the word immunity. What we have been really good at doing the past two years is giving patients access to information at their fingertips to help them make better decisions. Jackie this is really interesting. I had a doctors appointment just yesterday. We are being tested here as jeff mentioned, and dwwe do have to fill out symptoms to make sure our environment is safe. As soon as i told the Health Care Professionals i was dealing with i had just been tested, rapid test the day before my appointment and it was negative, they felt safer working with me. I could see the relief in their faces. So this could help business, you know, move along forward the way people are hoping that it will because there is so much fear out there. Yeah. Its already helping. So we have been doing this like i said since the beginning of the pandemic and on a weekly basis, hundreds of thousands of people are using it to share their status with whoever they want. Its up to them if they do that. We do see people posting on social media to people in their communities and the idea is a patient has this information at their disposal to use as they want, whether its a plane or an airline requires it or you go into a certain place for work that requires it. We very much want to empower the patient. Thats the first problem we are solving as a company. Jackie any costs here . Anything i have to pay as a user to be able to access these features . No. With the county of los angeles, they have done an incredible job of thinking through a lot of this and working with them has been incredible, there is no cost to the patient. This is helping them manage, as you can imagine, millions of patients, people who are going to get this information, you can imagine one of the problems they would have had is if you lose your card or which vaccination did i get, pfizer, moderna, instead of contacting them to get an access to your medical record or official record, that all happens through healthvana. You always have access digitally to your records. Jackie great to see you. Appreciate. Great work you are doing. We will watch for this. Thank you. Jackie still ahead, a new survey out of new york showing just how much home gatherings are leading to more covid cases and just how little restaurants are contributing to those spikes. Well be right back. Jackie when it comes to novavax, you are manufacturing your own antigen so it doesnt necessarily leave the patient, the person taking it, susceptible to becoming ill or possibly having more side effects. Ours has been very benign in the phase 1 and phase 2 trials. Were happy with that. With the scale of high production levels and as stable as it can be, standard refrigerator temperatures globally. Jackie more vaccines in the pipeline. Novavaxs ceo explaining to me yesterday why the companys vaccine candidate is very stable. This of course as britain authorized astrazenecas easy to handle covid19 vaccine. Developers hoping that it will become the vaccine for the world. Fox news correspondent Benjamin Hall has the latest for us from london. Reporter hi, jackie. Like the novavax vaccine, the Astrazeneca Oxford one is able to be transported at fridge temperature. That makes it like a flu jab, easy to transport and get into care places. The other thing is its much cheaper than the moderna and pfizer one, ten times cheaper than moderna, seven times cheaper than the pfizer one. This vaccine will be rolled out across the uk as of monday. The Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine offers around 70 efficacy 22 days after the first dose. That goes up to 80 efficacy after a second dose which they say should be taken anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks later. The pfizer and moderna vaccines, for comparison, are around 90 efficacy after two doses. The u. S. Has ordered 300 million doses of the oxford vaccine as part of their operation warp speed, though the fda has made clear they are not going to rush into approval as there are still questions about the trial data, much of which remains confidential. The approval in the uk was based on results from one subgroup only, when in fact there are four different trials going on in four parts of the world. Nevertheless, the approval comes at a critical time for the uk, which is in the midst of a new spike. The country now has more patients hospitalized due to covid than at any point so far in the pandemic, almost 23,000. That is a fifth of all Emergency Hospital beds in the uk and some hospitals are almost at capacity. There are almost 1,000 new deaths now every day and authorities are blaming this new spike on the new transmissible variance of the disease first identified in england. As of midnight tonight, three courses of the population of the ushgs uk will be in the highest restrictions, gyms, hospitality venues, will be closed. Same is true across europe which is showing its own spike of the variance. Bad news there. Good news, theres a lot of hope with this vaccine. Jackie thank you so much for that. Here in the United States, colorado, the first state to confirm that the new covid strain was discovered in the uk and now its here. Johns hopkins University Professor of Public Health and Fox News Contributor dr. Marty mccarey on how troubling this could be. It was only a matter of time before we thought it could make its way here, even when they discovered it in the uk, you had some of the experts saying it probably is here to a certain degree, but the vaccine should cover us with this. Your thoughts . Thats right. There was really no concerted effort to try to contain this new mutated strain which we know was in several countries, it was in denmark and south africa as well as the uk, and it is a mathematical certainty that this virus with this mutated strain thats likely far more contagious is at large and spreading widely in the United States. Because of something called selective pressure, it then dominates, if you think about it, it increases market share by the nature of it being more sticky or more contagious. Jackie so its more contagious but its not necessarily more deadly, which is really important, and we have also been told when it comes to viruses, even like the flu, they do mutate, so this was expected to a certain extent. I think it begs the question, and that is what do future mutations hold and we are seeing a rate of mutating that is sort of in the middle of the spectrum of a very stable virus versus a very fragile one like flu. I think it suggests that we probably will not have good Vaccine Coverage of this virus beyond two, three, four, five years, Something Like that, and we expect people to come back for a new strain of the vaccine. Jackie its interesting, because what i have been reading has indicated if you had the coronavirus, your antibodies are good for some time, you may not need to rush out to go get the vaccine, doctor, and that in fact, if you had it and you were treated for it, you actually should wait 90 days. Is that correct . Well, thank you for bringing it up. I think that is one of the biggest stories that is not being told that needs to be told, and that is the Natural Immunity you get after having the infection. It appears that Natural Immunity is good for at least a year, probably a couple years, at least a year because we know reinfection rates are very low and when they do happen, they are very mild cases. The vaccine is not perfect either in preventing infections after you get it. Natural immunity may be as good as, maybe a little better, maybe a little less as good, than the vaccine. That means we may not need to vaccinate everybody right now in order to reach herd immunity. We have a little time for people to step aside in the vaccine line if they have had the infection in the past. Jackie i bring it up because yesterday president elect biden was criticizing the current president for not getting the vaccine when we have seen notable figures doing this but i will remind everybody he had the coronavirus. He announced it on october 2nd. It hasnt been 90 days and that the immunity is really there. Thats neither here nor there issue. I also want to talk to you about whats happening with respect to the restaurants. You have so many strict lockdowns here in new york, california as well, and theres been a lot of backlash because businesses are really hurting, and the data doesnt necessarily support the fact that the virus is being transmitted in restaurants. As a matter of fact, just 1. 4 of covid cases in new york city are caused by restaurants and bars, compared to 75 almost that are resulting from home gatherings, where i imagine people are more lax, more casual, less likely to wear their mask and socially distance. So what advice do you have to some of these blue state leaders who are thinking that, you know, lockdowns are the answer . Well, you are absolutely right. Look, the mode of transmission right now is private gatherings where people let down their guard, especially when they are eating and hanging out, and if you look at the experience of the Airline Industry, pilots and flight attendants have a lower rate of getting Covid Infection than the general population, despite working in very close environments. Why is that . It speaks to the power of the Observational Data we have now from masks. As the data comes in, we know that when we were telling people to stayathome, we probably should have told them to be outside. When we told people to wash their hands like crazy, we probably should have been telling them to wear masks instead. When we closed schools we probably should have told schools to change their air flow and hepa filtration. I think the Restaurant Industry could learn a lot of lessons from that Observational Data. Jackie we all have learned. This has been an incredible year of learning and we have learned so much in such a short time with respect to the virus and developing these vaccines under operation warp speed, really remarkable when you think about the time that it normally would take. Doctor, great to see you. We appreciate your insight. Such helpful information to get our heads around it. Thank you. Thanks so much. Jackie markets are ending the year on a high note. The dow and s p 500 on pace for record closes. We will be back after the break and take a look. Some things are good to know. Susan li is here with us with more on todays top business headlines. Susan yeah, second last trading day of 2020, another record day so far for your 401 k s and thats despite the fact that 2,000 checks to americans probably wont happen this year, but 600 is either already in your bank account or in the mail. Meantime, you have another vaccine being approved in the uk made by astrazeneca. Thats lifting travel and leisure stocks today. By the way, the bitcoin bonanza continues. Recordbreaking 28,500 plus, extending its biggest month in a year and its up over 40 alone in the month of december, and taking along with it square and paypal. Thats where most people are actually buying their coins this year. Another winner today as well and for the year, really, tesla. Elon musk promising full selfdriving for three months if you buy your tesla before the year ends. Yes, the clock is ticking. You usually have to pay up to 10,000 for this upgrade when your car drives and parks itself, but its probably an incentive to try to get more tesla cars sold, since musk had promised 500,000 deliveries this year and despite a blockbuster summer, he needs a mindblowing record final three months in order to cross that milestone. Finally, christmas was pretty good for the streaming business. The wonder woman sequel drawing over half a million hbo max app signups, 50 signing up alone on sunday. Reviews havent been great but still, its attracted a lot of eyeballs and a lot of interest. Meantime, over at disney, you had nearly two and a half million sign up for disney plus, the pixar animated film soul a big draw there. I hear its good. Disney plus reported nearly 90 million subscribers in the first year of business. Thats almost half of netflix but it took them 12 years to amass 190 million subscribers and i will tell you, ice cream and some netflix might be my way to celebrate new years eve. Jackie i think its probably the only way and a lot of people will be doing that. Great to see you. Thank you. We are also watching the Housing Market as well because its been a bright spot in the economy amid the pandemic. But we are starting to see some mixed signals there. Home prices rising at the fastest pace in more than six months, but pending home sales declining for the third month in a row. Katrina campen here to react to that. We have seen some shifts across the country with respect to housing. Lot of people moving out of the urban areas, densely populated areas, expensive unsafe areas, they are going out to the suburbs. That takes these prices up, yet we are finding that we have a lack of inventory to meet that demand. What happens next . Absolutely. What you are seeing is you are seeing an influx specifically to florida. People are leaving high tax states like new york and coming to florida. Right now during this holiday, miami, for instance, is packed with people looking for real estate. They are buying real estate many times sight unseen which is driving prices up. So the locals are now having to compete with people from out of state coming to buy property. Another issue is very low inventory. This is basically causing prices to rise. I said this back in march when the pandemic first started, the Real Estate Market is actually looking to help us out of this recovery and i really, truly believe we are seeing this now that prices would go up. They would rise. Many reasons for that. Low Interest Rates, low inventory, high tax states, and the pandemic. So florida has become a hot spot for people buying real estate as a result of covid. I dont think thats going to change. Jackie i can see the issue with inventory when you have all these people flocking to one area but why is it that builders arent necessarily racing to get the new Building Permits . Well, you know whats occurring is that because a lot of factories are closed, im seeing this, i sell a lot of real estate but i also help my clients basically renovate their properties afterwards, and what im seeing is the delays for hurricaneproof windows, for instance, are four months out. So Home Builders want to build, but theres a lot of red tape, theres a lot of delays caused by the factories being closed during covid and thats all affecting the supply moving forward. But i do believe that Home Builders will continue to be bullish moving forward into 2021, specifically in florida, places like palm beach, pine crest, where the School District is amazing, miami beach and so forth, westin davie because the demand is there and thats not going to change. Lets not forget we are also seeing the influx from people in the Tech Industry which we have never seen in miami before to this degree. Jackie its remarkable. [ speaking simultaneously ] jackie you have the good weather, you have less lockdowns right now, theres no income tax, state income tax, there are a lot of reasons that i could see people would want to be living there and they use this pandemic as an opportunity to get down there. Jackie the owners of a new york city bar who declared it an autonomous zone now claiming victory in court. Fox news correspondent brian yenis has the details. Reporter well, nats public house infamously defied new yorks covid19 restrictions declaring itself an autonomous zone, allowing Indoor Dining, still serving alcohol despite orders from the city and state not to do so. It eventually led to their shutdown. Now the lawyers and owners are declaring victory today, saying that 20 criminal summonses issued to the owners and patrons of the bar were dismissed. They believe this is proof that the restrictions issued by new York Governor Andrew Cuomo have no teeth, in their words, and they are encouraging restaurants and bars to keep fighting. We are still staying the course. We took on the overreach, intimidation and financial ruins but we are still staying the course. These rulings are Proof Positive that all along, these antics were nothing but hot air and there is no legal basis for taking away our constitutional freedom and liberties. Reporter now, nats became a rallying cry for those who believed covid19 restrictions were unnecessary and destroying their livelihoods. It remains closed, shut down by the health department, the Liquor License suspended by the state liquor tloauthority, writ in quote part we understand the owners think they can ignore rules they dont like but they cannot ignore the fact their Liquor License is inactive, that the slas charges are still pending and one of the coowners is accused of running over a sheriffs deputy and members of the press should not buy into this false media circus. That coowner is danny prefsti, arrested in december for defying covid19 restrictions and arrested a second time days later whether he allegedly hit a new york city sheriff with his jeep. Bottom line, jackie, nats public house is not reopening any time soon. They still have legal battles including a civil case in state Supreme Court on february 2nd. The city trying to declare it a public nuisance which could have the restaurant and bar shut down for a year. Jackie . Jackie what a story, epic. Thank you for following it all for us. We appreciate it. Meantime, more and more hollywood elites calling to cancel cancel culture. Singer dua lipa speaking out calling it dangerous and toxic. Maureen callahan joins us with her take on this. Maureen . Hi, jackie. Jackie canceling cancel culture. Your thoughts . I think this has been a long time coming. We have seen numerous celebrities over the years but i think particularly this year when we have all been stuck inside of our homes and its sort of led to a sort of real pitchfork mentality of taking down whoever happens to cross our screens at any given moment. I think that what shes saying is completely logical and sound and valid, and the reasons she was called upon to be canceled are truly ridiculous. Jackie well, a lot has been canceled this year. People feel that way in their personal lives, too. Its just been such a tough time and maybe thats opened, you know, people who are out there up to criticism in a way, because people have more time on their hands and we have also put all these platforms out there, whether its instagram, twitter, facebook, where people can voice their opinion and speak openly about whatever thats going on, the theme of the moment. I also think that it sort of tipped off earlier this year at the very beginning of the lockdown, when you saw the sort of really tonedeaf celebrities spearheaded by kirsten wiig, you know, singing imagine from their multiMillion Dollar mansions or their expansive backyards when, you know, average americans were really like worried about how they were going to put food on the table, or were they going to get evicted, were they going to even survive a trip to the Grocery Store at that time, truly felt like taking your life in your hands. I think a ground was set that would really, it was not so advantageous. Jackie yeah, to add to that point, i would see all the pictures of celebrities throughout this period, whether they were on vacation in really posh places or in the islands or they were like the kardashians and they were throwing birthday celebrations, you know, lot of people were suffering and i think that was hard to see those images but i also want to talk about cancel culture with respect to Hilaria Baldwin because shes responding to claims she misled people about her spanish heritage and saying in the New York Times quote, today we have an opportunity to clarify for people who have been confused and have been confused in some way by people misrepresenting me. I find that interesting, because people would accuse her of misrepresenting herself. Oh, this is a story that keeps on giving so please, i hope there are no calls to cancel hilaria and alec baldwin. Its amazing to me, alec baldwin has been famous the bulk of his life and this is someone who has had many of his own public crises in terms of reputation. Hes known in new york city as a race monger. You would know maybe he would know how to handle this. Apparently they are not listening or shes so deep into this delusion, she thinks its a great idea to go to the New York Times and say i cant believe everybody is so confused that i claimed to be spanish all of those years, i was claiming to be spanish. Jackie yeah. Its really interesting to me because i watched her explanation videos on instagram and i personally felt like they were a little bit of a meltdown, if you will. I mean, she just was going on and on and on, let me clarify, let me do this, let me do all that, then in the time she said one of the most important places to start is this idea of boundaries. We have this thing called oversharing which i have actually been accused of. My children are young enough that im just sharing Sweet Little Things of them, but when you put yourself out there in that way, and you are oversharing, and its not just her children, she posts pictures of herself in her bra and underwear to show off her figure postbaby and all of these things, you open yourself up to this, especially when what you are putting out there may not be factually accurate. Exactly. I mean, she is choosing to put her minor Children Online for public consumption. Thats not even something they have the ability to say for themselves they want or not. So you know, really, this is the thing that really just gets at people, i think, is hypocrisy. Claims to be the victim of the very thing you are doing while its also clear that attention, whether it be positive or negative jackie we have to leave it there. Great talking to you today.
