Futures on the rise this morning as we have two trading days left in 2020 this as secretary treasury Steven Mnuchin announced first batch of 600 stimulus were deposited last night. Immediate push for 2,000dollar checks blocked by Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell who instead proposed linking bigger payments to repeal of section 232 Liability Protections for internet platform, social Media Companies and creation of a commission to study election issues. Joining me now chief Investment Strategy mark and joining the conversation all morning long forbes media chairman, former republican president ial candidate steve forbes and Payne Capital senior wealth adviser courtney dominguez. Mark, to you first. What do you make Mitch Mcconnell putting initial stop to a vote to 2,000dollar checks, how does that play out in the markets . Dagen, you saw it a little bit yesterday, disappointment in the market by way of selling the rollover, if you will, taking a little of the enthusiasm after hand claws rally after big gain on monday. Now, i still think whats being overlooked here is the fact that there are a couple important things accompany the enact meant enacumen of relief packages. 10 million or so americans are and incrementally, hundreds of billions of dollars in incremental and potential spending into the economy which is exceedingly high over the last 5 years or so averaged 8 suggest theres still a lot of dry powder on the sidelines to fuel spending and help those in most need of it to bridge if you will until the period until the economy can fully reopen as consequence of inoculations thats taking place. Dagen steve forbes, ive been waiting to ask you what you thought about the vilification of Mitch Mcconnell and his decision at least temporarily to not push the 2,000dollar stimulus idea to a vote and, again, President Trump really put him on the line, if you will, fighting with the likes of Bernie Sanders and Chuck Schumer in pushing 2,000dollar checks, do we need them, what say you, steve forbes . Steve what should have been done two weeks ago, dagen, the president should have proposed the 2,000dollar checks. That would have provided power stimulus and god tradeoff and one shot. Thats the good things about the checks, they are a one shot. Not sure they are taking into account the change of regime. Not taxes, i think we will do all right in georgia, im wondering about, mark, in terms of what the regulatory torrent coming in the months, companies, financials and the like. Dagen mark, what do you say about that . January 5th is going to matter a a lot in terms of and you dont have any standoff in congress and gridlock and not allowing for overwhelming majority of the democrats occupying the congress but nonetheless allows smoother path not only to higher individual and Corporate Tax but much regulatory climate and what we have seen in the last 4 years, 109 billion annually that wasnt being spent by businesses that were under the Obama Administration to comply with regulatory climate that was imposed by them. Dagen mark, moving onto technology stocks, intel surging 5 , well, surging 5 , down 1 in premarket trading as new stakeholder wrote a letter to the chip maker calling on it to consider, quote, alternative strategies including selling acquisitions and splitting design and manufacturing operations, the letter reads in Party Without immediate change in intel, we feel that americas access to semiconductor would erode forcing the u. S. To rely more heavily on geopolitical unstable east asia to power everything from pcs to data centers to Critical Infrastructure and more. Mark, this goes beyond just the price of one stock. What do you make of this push to try and sure up intel strengths . Well, intels, does some selfinflicted wounds. Its issues are allowing chip maker to gain market share which is good for another American Company but at the same time also helped to advance the lead that semiconductor has had for quite some time in the manufacturing of semiconductor products. Again, its a problem thats selfinflicted but at the same time the u. S. Clearly has been not only dominant force but particularly in Semiconductor Industry but to the extent it allows competitors away from the United States to usurp that leadership it becomes problematic not only for competition but also what helped Catalyze Companies like apple and others to build manufacturing facilities to incorporate vertically integrated chip design as opposed to outsourcing it as opposed to declines in some of the manufacturing response we have seen not only here domestically because of the fallout that occurred in intels processing but semiconductor. Dagen mark, good to see you. Mark luschini. Real estate hits the highest in years. We are talking stimulus all morning long, hear from guy and congressman on what they would like to see on additional aid blocked in the senate. Dont miss a moment of it. Youre watching mornings with maria live on fox business. Ed. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. You can adjust yourowest priccomfort on both sides. Your sleep number setting. Can it help me fall asleep faster . Yes, by gently warming your feet. But, can it help keep me asleep . So, you can really promise better sleep . Not promise. Prove. Dont miss our new years special the queen sleep number 360 c2 smart bed is only 899. Plus, no interest until january 2024 on all smart beds. Ends monday. Dagen stimulus showdown, Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell blocks to hold quick vote to increase direct payments to americans to 2,000, that was yesterday, instead mcconnell wants to tie to increase to more items to President Trumps agenda including repealing controversial section 232 Liability Protections for social Media Companies, largetech platforms and commission on Election Security. President trump lashing out on twitter writing, quote, unless republicans have a death wish, its also the right thing to do, they must approve 2,000dollar payments asap, 600 is not enough, also get rid of section 230, dont let big tech steal our country and dont let democrats steal president ial election. Hugo gordon, your reaction to this. Let Mitch Mcconnell be the fall guy, senator mcconnell knows that Many Republican senators are not on board in adding another 300 billion to debt and deficit. Thats exactly, right, dagen. The republicans are no no mood to add a third to a trillion dollars more to ballooning deficit. What Mitch Mcconnell has done is pretty clever actually, putting section 230 in repeal, bigtech protection, attaching it to the increase size of check, what hes ensuring that one is a poison pill for the other. The democrats are not going to agree to end to eliminate a Liability Protection for their big tech friends, they are not going to vote for that even if theres a 2,000dollar check involved. Frankly, the republicans dont want the checks to go up to 2,000 anyway. This is a way of making sure that Mitch Mcconnell is focusing on something which the president asked for which is repeal of section 230 but making sure it is used to prevent massive increase in the deficit. Its a pretty clever move and basically end today, you know, end in the senate, the 2,000dollar checks wont happen, itll be 600dollar checks. Dagen steve forbes, i just find it kind of silly that say senator Chuck Schumer is cater walling about 2,000dollar checks not being approved. 600 are going out to the American People, but caterwalling 2,000 ahead of benefit, got in the way, filibuster a vote in the senate twice on even bringing up for debate half a trillion dollar rescue package before the election because he and nancy pelosi thought they would benefit from it. They admitted to it. Thats why they wouldnt move ahead of the stimulus. Steve thats right, the republicans put on the table, mnuchin put on the table 1. 8 trillion package on the table, far bigger than what they are passing now even if they put the 2,000dollar check in there wouldnt come close to 1. 8 trillion and the democrats turned it down. I wonder, hugo, is that going to hurt in georgia, they dont understand parliamentary maneuvers, they are just reading gop blocks 2,000dollar checks, is that going to hurt republicans in georgia . Yeah, i suspect a lot of people who are disappointed. People like to get 2,000 rather than 600 and this is one of the real problems. The president put republicans in a jam in georgia on this. This was as a you say, steve, own treasury secretary negotiated 600dollar checks and agreed with congress and the president comes out and says 2,000, that puts his own people in a jam. I dont suppose that senators perdue and loeffler will be thanking the president for doing that. Theyre come out and said they support the 2,000, im sure that they feel that they have been put in a terrible jam by the president and, you know, im sure Mitch Mcconnell is really annoyed with the fact that the president has made it tougher for him to retain the majority in the senate and that can havery percussions over the next 2 years or even four years, this is really vital that the republicans retain the senate because otherwise theres absolutely no block on the leftwing agenda. Dagen on the note, the wall street journal has editorial today thats called mcconnell at the bridge. Senate leader tries to minimize the harm, trying to punish Mitch Mcconnell and john thoon, they go onto describe exactly what youve been talking about but they do add that its the right policy choice since the 2,000dollar checks they call unnecessary and the truly needy have access to expanded benefits and food care and subsidies and much more from the federal government. Speaks of those things, President Trump is still in the pork which includes aid for other countries, millions for the Kennedy Center and the smithsonian, the president sending a redline version of the bill to congress which calls for the removal of wasteful items but at this point you cant cut the pork, can you . Hugo no, dagen, they cant. This is a 1974 act, law which allows the president to send back rescission but the president said this is dead on arrival and theyve adjourned for the year. Im afraid that this is not going to happen. Its a great shame in some ways, they could increase on covid. The end result will be no change, 900 billiondollar covid will go through and the defense bill will the veto will be overridden. Dagen hugo gurdon, happy new year. We will be right back. Dagen chinas crackdown on jack ma, beijing looks to decrease empire and stake larger stake in businesses, regulators this week ordering mas aunt group to refocus business and comply with regulatory requirements as China Central bank say it is company is drafts a plan to set up a separate Financial Holding company under regulatory supervision. Ma, chinas richest man has lost 11 billion in in 2 months under increased scrutiny of empire, chinese regulators have found alibaba site as well as competitors tmall and vip shop 501 each for a regular pricing, thats about 77,000 u. S. Dollars. Steve, this seems like a greater overreach by the Chinese Communist party, does it not, where do we go from here . Steve i think what it underscores, dagen, one of the great strengths in this country if we allow innovation and creativity. The deal in china until xi came along, president xi came along that entrepreneurs can set up businesses with few regulatory obstacles and easy to set up business in china than it was in the u. S. For several years, just stay out of politics. Jack ma took off with that and created extraordinary advance in terms of technology in finance but now they have been cracking down on that, the suffocating environment that xi is creating longterm bad for economy. Its an omnibus turn, huge change from what china did in 1978 when mau was removed and died and left the scene. Dagen courtney, what do you make of that . Will u. S. Companies benefit from the shift . Yeah, i would really argue that its the big balancing act that china is working with right now where they are trying to keep down entrepreneurs like him but at the same time they want to keep spirit alive of companies coming to china which entrepreneurs feel they cant be in business in china the way they used to be and can help companies in the u. S. Definitely something we need to keep an eye on but i wouldnt say thats a new thing for companies that come the light right now. Dagen steve, with a Biden Administration coming in a months time, what do you make of what is our policy with china going to look like . Are we going to to reflect and kowtow which maria said over again military dominance but also Economic Dominance on the world stage . Steve well, thats right, i think the new Biden Administration is going to have to get over the policies of the past where they, in effect went what china did and the key is what are they going to do in the South China Sea and continue measures to make sure waters Stay International and a big one coming up, dagen, taiwan. Are they going to try to put pressures on taiwan . They already started in terms of flights and things like that that they did in hong kong and this administration has got to make it very clear that the toughness they had in the last four years is basically going to continue even though the players are going to change otherwise china thinks economy will do well, they think they did well in covid crisis and thats not a good thing and underestimating the United States and we have to make it clear from the top, you have to abide by International Rules and we are here to enforce them. Dagen one other thing that i will point out in terms of news, steve, on monday in china the 37yearold was sentenced to four years in prison for, quote, picking quarrels and provoking trouble but as the editorial journal page says, mishandling of covid. This is who we are dealing with. A nation when a reporter comes out with truth, they are thrown in jail. Steve yes, it tells you something when truth is a crime and thats going to affect the economy and also china is hurting their relations with other countries including europe. Everyone is taking a relook at the relations with china now. Xi has really pushed it over the edge. People dont like that bullying. Dagen the American People will never forget the origins of this coronavirus ever. Coming up, georgia on our minds, we will have a debate from both sides of the aisle as the Crucial Senate runoffs are less than week away. Impressive feat making a buzz this morning. Broken windshield. Take 1. Hey guys, my windshield just got broken, i feel like i need to blow off some steam. Lets go. 1, 2, 3, 4. Mr. Blanks . Theres no need to be stressed. Geico makes it easy to file a claim online, on the app, or over the phone. Yeah, but what if i never hear back . Thats gonna make me want to go jab. Jab nope your geico claims team is always there for you. That makes me want to celebrate with some fireworks. 5,6,7 go. Boom, boom, boom, boom boom boom boom boom boom, yeah geico. Great Service Without all the drama. Dagen welcome back, im Dagen Mcdowell in for maria bartiromo. Its wednesday december 30th, a look at your markets at this half hour. Futures are back on the rise this morning, 94point gain on the dow futures. Markets shifting gears yesterday, all market gauges finishing lower after the stimulus vote was initially blocked. European markets look like this this morning, england, france and germany all in the plus side slight gains there. European Union Officials signing the post brexit deal today. In asia overnight, markets mostly to the plus side, nikkei lower by about half of 1 . The Kushner Company taking its business overseas. Cheryl casone has the details. Hey, cheryl. Cheryl hey, dagen, wall street journal says the company has filed paperwork to raise 100 million by selling bonds in israel, the bonds would be sold on the tel aviv stock exchange. Kushner companies is owned by the family of white house Senior Adviser aide and soninlaw to the president jared kushner. Well, recall alert for you, Shane Ericsson recalling 3 brands of hand sanitizers and spike in hand sanitizers that claimed to have ethanol but tested positive for methanol. The Trump Campaign is asking Supreme Court to review 50,000 absentee ballots in wisconsin, appealing a ruling by the Supreme Court which calls for request unreasonable, joe biden won wisconsin by just 20,000 votes. And chickfila expanding markets, puerto rico, fastfood chain plans to open two locations in first two years, first location in the metropolitan of bayamon and some are some of your headlines. Dagen thank you, cheryl, all eyes on georgia, peach state shattering Campaign Records with under a week to go been runoff elections more than a third of a billion dollars have been raised, closing in half a billion dollars with the fate of the senate hanging in the balance, joining me now democratic strategist Michael Starr hopkins and in the meantime steve forbes will take the other side of the debate. Michael, good to see you this morning, any way to know how this plays out next week . Micheal i think this is going to be a tossive. Democrats are strong in georgia right now which is something that we havent been able to say since 1992 and the fact that its a tossive in the state of georgia to me is that democrats have advantage, we have strong ground game but given 2,000dollar stimulus and attacks on loeffler and perdue, democrats stand in a strong spot. Dagen michael, i will had, though, the wall street journal editorial points out that republican senator david perdue, biden won the state of georgia but david perdue won more votes and a bigger vote share than trump did in share. So as was the case in many places even blue states like california, those down ballot candidates did better than President Trump because of his policies. Micheal well, you know, i dont know if its whether its his policies or methods and approach but its interesting to see the president go to georgia and attempt to rally his base. His underperformed as you said down ticket ballot and now i think he could be a drag on the ticket given calls for this stop the steal kind of movement and undermining democracy. I think a lot of georgians are going to stay home rather than go out and attempt to vote in an election that the president seems intent on undermining. Dagen do you buy that steve forbes, that voter turnout could suffer on the republican side . Steve no. I think republicans have gotten the message, thanks to Chuck Schumer and others saying georgia is key to put socialist agenda in and now we will see much better turnout. Weve had over 2. 3 Million People vote early. Hundreds of thousands of those are republicans who didnt vote before, i think the Republican Base is arouse and the ruling by sister of stacy abrams, may keep people in ballots in two counties, however, underscores peoples feelings and better get out and have poll watchers and not let any shenanigans happen. Dagen steve forbes brought this up, michael, about Chuck Schumer, his has been cut into advertisements in georgia, but first we take georgia, then we change america, i dont know that really reasonates with georgians. Micheal i would say that republicans are lost looking for some sort of leadership and they are not getting it from the president so democrats have very open to showing them how you actually lead a country. Dagen i will point out, though, that Chuck Schumer and i said this earlier, Chuck Schumer for months stopped even debate on earlier stimulus packages that the Senate Republican leadership wanted to vote on, literally for months leading up to the election. That they were thought if they could prevent schumer and nancy pelosi, they could prevent trump from getting a win on stimulus which would have helped americans months ago, then so it would be a win for them if they could stop that, and so they were literally standing atop the suffering of the American People and that went on for months so i find it a little this is politicking, thats all it is. Micheal with all due respect donald trump blew up negotiations and said he wouldnt sign a bill when mnuchin and Speaker Pelosi dagen thats not what im talking about. There were two half trillion dollar packages that Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell wanted to vote on and Senate Democrats filibustered it and stopped it from even going up for debate. That was twice before the election. Micheal half a trillion dollars was not enough. We know that wasnt enough. 1. 8 isnt enough money at this point but what we do need to do at this moment is make sure that americans can pay their bills, can put food in their fridge and make sure they keep their lights on, as we head into 2021, we will need everyone to come on board to Work Together not just so we can tackle corona but grow the country together. Dagen steve forbes, if Chuck Schumer cared of the American People, half a trillion dollar is half a trillion dollars. Steve they said if you elect us, we will do more. Leadership but in what direction and the fact that the republicans did so well in house races and kept did well in senate races when the democrats thought they were going to take control easily of the u. S. Senate, shows the American People are not on board for the farleft agenda and now that the personalities, the president ial race are out of the way, i think both republican candidates have a good shot of winning on january 5th precisely because the American People especially in georgia dont want to go in far leftsocialist agenda that Bernie Sanders and others are advocating. Dagen michael, i want to ask you about inauguration day, closing in, what can we expect from the First One Hundred days of a Biden Administration . I would i love how joe biden promised a hundred million vaccinations, hes upset about the distribution but shortly that would be on him. Micheal the Biden Administration will tackle coronavirus in the First One Hundred days making sure that people not only have access to vaccines but have more access to testing, testing that isnt going to take four, five days to get a result but testing thats usable. The administration will be serious and trust scientists, something that the Current Administration has neglected to do and more importantly dagen i will push back on that. Trusting the scientists is knowing early on that the way early out of this was early vaccine. These very Drug Companies who have been vilified for years by the left. Micheal well, im not one who will defend pharmaceuticals. Dagen who should, the ones that came up with the vaccines and certainly kept my mother alive for 5 and a half years when she had cancer. Micheal absolutely. But for this one i would say the president spent 3 or 4 months calling it a hoax, not wearing a mask, fail to go show leadership and then turned around and decided hundreds of americans died that he would show minuscule dagen he never called the virus a hoax. He called the way that the democrats were talking about his leadership on it a hoax. We can hash this out. Listen, joe biden is going to be inaugurated in in late january, and the issue is like do people really believe that the federal government will function better because theres one different person in the white house and theres different people in an administration, i mean, the failure of government is not only at the top level but all the way down if you think the last year has been, well, a disaster . Micheal part of that is hallowing out of government. Hallow out the government and cut back the size of government. Well, when you cut back the size of government and we have a crisis, we dont have an opportunity to have experts in the field to be able to assist and build a plan. Thats what happens. Dagen i can argue how the private sector could have handled this better, like say all of those athome, those athome abbott tests that are sitting in warehouses say in california, if you put those in the hands of the private sector, you just said, hey, go buy a 5dollar test rather than handing them out to the states, that would have been we could have this argument all day but this is this is what these elections are about and this is what the programs are about. Michael, happy new year. Please come back. Micheal happy new year. Dagen Michael Starr hopkins. Dagen Gold Standard of tech, apple on track to post gains of more than 80 for the second year in a row. Joining me now to discuss longterm outlook tech expert Capital Management partner john meyer, john, talk about the past year and what could keep driving this company, the stock into 2021 . John so great to see you, dagen. Over the last year, weve seen apple see tremendous success with the perfect balance between maintaining their iphone growth with their new increasing growth in their Services Business with apple tv plus and tv platform as well as fitness platform and latest iphone release with iphone 12 with 5g which what we call in the industry the super cycle, the vast majority of iphone customers want to upgrade on. Dagen but what about new products and new services that youre keeping an eye on for the coming year, for if youre going to buy the stock here, what you got . John so thats the key question. Its all about the future for apple. Based on our research strongly believe that we are going to see a temporary plateau in apples growth from a stockprice standpoint while we wait for apple to hit next major product in 2023 range and that is really going to be apples entrance into augmented reality through the lens of glasses that you wear in your face to interact with software, call your friends, call your parents, as you touch desk, user interface as a opposed to a physical iphone in your hand. Whats so crucial about this, this is apples chance to release yet another one thousand dollar device that is massmarket for consumers and this is the key for apple success really in ten years or so with the iphone given that the latest iphones are all in thousand dollar range and they al bring forward those very hefty Profit Margins and so thats going to be the next major device for apple. Great buying opportunity for the stock now and then obviously as weve heard recently with reports coming in the manufacturing cycle, once we get past the 2023 range and get into the mid2020s, thats when we get into apple releasing their own autonomous electric vehicle for the first time entering the car market. Dagen the glasses, google glass was a disaster so have our taste changed . That was how we interact with the internet and one another and, well, turned into a joke pretty quickly. John it was a total joke and mostly a joke because of the way it looked. It was far, far too early for its time. The battery life didnt last at all to be able to last a full day and then the other problem was the Developer Community wasnt there whatsoever. What makes the iphone and even android phones so special is the vast number of apps available for the platforms and that simply wasnt available for google glass either which also was a huge problem in that realm of the world. Dagen great to see you, thank you so much for being here this morning. John. John that i can care. Dagen time for the morning buzz, first up, luxurious listening, apples new airpods max go for 549, but they dont look like pods, they are just headphones but if you want to turn it up a notch, go for the gold. Russian Company Selling gold plated pods, is this customized headphone music to your ears . They are cool looking, i have to say that, i could shot justify paying 180,000 for headphones, i dont know about you, dagen. On a positive sign if they can sell headphones on 108,000 we will move beyond covid, i will take that. Dagen i see people out running with the large headphones are because they are trying to be cool in spare time they are like a dj for their friends or something and i always worry about their necks because headphones are heavy and people are out running with them and im like, yeah, youre not a runner. Next, one person who could easily afford gold headphones is back in number 1. Paul mccartney topping the chart for the first time in 31 years, former beatles new album mccartney 3 overtaking taylor swift for top of billboard charts. Mccartney with celebratory dance on twitter. Steve, impressive achievement from mccartney. The guy looks great. Selfproduced album that he produced during quarantine. I suppose that youre and were a beatles fan. Steve he comes back like that, the song yesterday, i think they can put that aside. Hes not yesterday hes man, he shows that hes with it today and producing this during covid crisis. Great achievement. You might say he has got new wings, the old group, but im loving it especially being a baby boomer seeing icon of the 60s and 70s, he has a a lot of life in him. Thats good per the rest of us too. Dagen so peter jackson, the famous film director is recutting all of the more than 50 hours of let it be footage and he didnt call it a trailer, but they cut together some of the footage of that recording session. And it really made the hair stand up on the back of any neck watching it because you are seeing we forget how incredible the beatles were but you were really even seeing in this preview a side of the beatles that maybe we have never seen before. Steve great achievement by peter jackson, riveting and wanting you to see the documentary, absolutely. Dagen i was running to let it be when i was in brook. European markets looking like this, the ftse 100 in england and the cac in france slipping to the downside, slight losses there. Gains still on the dax in germany. European Union Officials signing the post brexit deal today. In asia overnight, markets mostly higher there. The nikkei suffering a loss of about half of 1 . Some of the top headlines this morning. Many americans are waking up with an extra 600 in their bank accounts. Cheryl casone has more. Hey, cheryl. Cheryl dagen, good morning. The Treasury Department releasing those covid19 rehe leaf funds overnight. Treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin says americans should begin receiving paper checks within the next two weeks. But the checks are not the 2,000 the president asked for. Senate Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell blocking a standalone vote on the measure yesterday, despite some republican support. He did leave the door open for a vote later on but in a bill that ties in other items in the president s agenda. Well keep you posted on that. Senator Bernie Sanders also doubling down on his threat to filibuster todays veto override of the defense bill in order to get more money in the checks. Well, the new coronavirus variant has been found in the u. K. And its now here in the United States. Colorado Health Officials confirming the case in a man in his 20s with no travel history. Hes currently in isolation in a local hospital. California meanwhile extending its stayathome order for two regions, Southern California and the San Joaquin Valley area. The u. K. Becoming the first country to approve the Astrazeneca Oxford vaccine, it is less effective compared to moderna and pfizer. Luke letlose has died from covid19 complications overnight. His death comes days after he tested positive for the virus. He was just 41 years old. Well, we are less than a week away from the Georgia Senate runoff races, the candidates setting new fund raising efforts, raking in more than a third of a billion dollars in just two months. Democratic challengers john ossoff and Raphael Warnock both raising over 100 million. Georgias secretary secretary is looking to crack down. Brahe is calling on officials to have a buffer zone during tuesdays elections, this as federal judge Leslie Abrams gardner ruled that two of the states counties could not invalidate Voter Registration based on unverified information, dagen. And those are some of your headlines from here. Back over to you. Dagen thank you very much. Time now for the word on wall street, top investors watching your money this week. Joining me now Strategic Wealth partners strategist, luke lloyd, Keith Fitzgerald and spotlight Asset Management chief investment officer, shanna fisel. Treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin announced the first batches of 600 payments were deposited last night in peoples bank accounts, the first paper checks getting mailed today. U. K. Regulators approved the objection of ford astrazeneca coronavirus vaccine, paving the way for a third option here in the u. S. Potentially to join moderna and pfizer treatments. What will the new stimulus, the additional vaccine option mean for the 2021 economy and the stock market . Well, lets start by saying that 600 checks are better than no checks whatsoever and getting them out quickly is certainly a good things but it is not sufficient for people who are truly struggling and the number one employer for americans are Small Businesses. So Small Business support is critical to be able to get through what i think will be a short period in the First Quarter of real struggles. I think Economic Data for december is not going to be great. And so we might see some volatility. But ultimately, as we continue to roll out the vaccine, as manufacturing and distribution increases, this is positive for the second half of the year. I really believe theres a coiled spring effect of pentup demand. People want to get out of the house. People most definitely will be traveling. They will most definitely be spending money, Savings Rates are at alltime highs. So ultimately, the stimulus checks as well as Vaccine Distribution and greater options for the vaccine will be positive for both the economy and the stock market. Dagen i just want to point out, though, about a third of a trillion dollars or 325 billion was included in this new rescue package, this new stimulus package, to help Small Businesses including 284 billion for the first and second forgiveable paycheck protection loans. So there is money, quite a bit of it, for Small Businesses. Next up absolutely. Dagen keith, shifting to the tech landscape, intel surging 5 yesterday as third point penned a letter to the chip maker, calling on it to consider alternative strategies including selling acquisitions and splitting design and manufacturing operations. Keith, what do you make of that . You know, thats interesting. I think its probably long overdue, dagen. I thought intel was dead money for quite some time now. The question to me as an investor, if other companies are outinnovating and outspecializing intel, why stick with intel. Apple is building its own chips, microsoft is getting into the business, nvidia, stuff going into the cloud. The utility of trying to be a jack of all trades provider like intel i think is past its day. Dagen what do you like in tech . I was looking at your sector groups, the best performing Asset Classes for 2020, and under bitcoin, lumber and silver, the nasdaq 100 was near the top, was the fourth best performing, nasdaq 100 was up 47 , really incredible. Of course, lumber more than doubled in 2020. Well, it did. But heres the thing. Those are all relationships and sectors that have sticky customer relationships. You build with lumber, you do stuff with bitcoin, you use tech. The customers are highly invested in whatever those particular sectors are. Thats the key. So going into 2021 into what shannon laid out, i agreed with what she said. I think im going to stick with the winners because theyve got sticky customer relationships and innovation. Dagen i wonder in terms of the sticky customer relationships that have developed around, say, athome fitness and athome habits, whether its television viewing, whether its a netflix or the like, i wonder if those relationships stay sticky. I have no idea how people, once the economy really begins to reopen of, how they behave. But i can tell you theyre not going to be staying at home. Well, i share that sentiment. People are going to get out and ride real bikes, theyre going to get out and do real things with their lives as opposed to watching everybody else live theres on the screen. Theirs on the screen. What will you do when you run out of our Favorite Television episodes or you played your games. You will move on. Dagen luke, lets look at home buying boom. I mentioned lumber being the second best performing asset class this year, home prices jumping to the highest price theyve been in october of. Phoenix, seattle and san diego are seeing the biggest gains. Luke, youre looking at mortgage lenders here. Tell us about it. So, there are two scenarios for 2021, dagen. If everything goes as planned in 2021, the vaccine is effective, we get back to normal, we ramp up the economy, we could see higher Interest Rates. Higher Interest Rates will be a silent killer for stocks and the Housing Market. If the economy continues to show signs of weakness, Interest Rates will remain low and the federal government and Federal Reserve will continue to support the economy. Certain sectors will do better than others. The Housing Market will do well as well. I think this is the most likely scenario. The Federal Reserve will continue to buy bonds which could drive rates even lower. Again, this will keep the Housing Market strong and maybe stronger than it was for 2020. We think the Housing Trend is a good place to put your money. Rocket mortgage, its trading at a great valuation, Interest Rates will remain low and people are moving out of City Apartments and into suburban homes of. We think the trend is here to stay. California, the Tech Companies are moving to texas. I think the trend is going to be here to stay across the United States and Rocket Mortgage is trading at 20 of of dollar 20 i think it goes up to 30 a share in 2021. Dagen great to see you all this morning. A blessed 2021, a happy new year. We will see you hopefully very soon, early january. Thank you all so much. Much more ahead this morning. Were talking stimulus all morning long. Well hear from congressman guy refrescongressman guyreschenthad wenstrup next hour. Joining the conversation all morning long, steve forbes and courtney domingus. Youre watching mornings with maria live on fox business. When it comes to autism, finding the right words can be tough. Finding understanding doesnt have to be. Together, we can create a kinder, more inclusive world for the millions of people on the autism spectrum. Go to autismspeaks. Org dagen stimulus showdown, Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell blocking the senates vote on 2,000 stimulus checks, leaving the door open on new legislation that could include, will include higher checks but also repeal of the controversial section 230 Liability Protections for Big Technology companies and add a commission on Election Security. Joining me now, pennsylvania congressman on the foreign affairs, judiciary and Armed Services committee, guy reschenthaler. You initially voted no for the stimulus bump. Why i, if you voted for big spending packages in the past. Just for that reason. Good morning. Thanks for having me on. Please just call me guy. You said it, we voted for stimulus in the past. Had he lets take a da lets take a step back. Over the summer we voted for trillions of dollars in relief, additionally just days before this requested bump to 2,000, we passed a 900 billion covid relief package, yet another package, and i dont want to begrudge anybody aid and relief. If you look at the last package, it had 600 payments for stimulus, of also had an increase of Unemployment Compensation to 300 extra dollars, also you had money for the very popular ppp program, the paycheck protection program. You had a holistic, bipartisan approach. We should take a wait and see approach to the last stimulus before we go and have another payment, another increase. Additionally, dagen, at a certain point were going to have to pay off this debt, were going to have to deal with the deficit. If we weaken our economy, if we keep running these numbers up, its going to mean increased taxs in the future. Its basically debt and deficit are basically a tax on future americans, number one. Two, its going to slow and weaken our recovery which is going to make us weaker relative to a growing china gdp. So for all those reasons, i voted no and let me just say this. If we want to have the best stimulus possible for the american economy, its ending these draconian shutdowns. Americans want to get back to work. We need to unleash the economy and we cant do it with these irrational lockd were seeing from blue state governors. We can open the economy, we can socially distance, we can be responsible and still grow the gdp. Unfortunately, blue state governors have not given us the opportunity to do that. Dagen well, thats been a steve forbes, get in here. This has been the tug of war between the federal government and the State Government and its the separation of those powers. But steve, with congressman reschenthaler talking about the debt and our deficit, are we past the point of no return . Thats my biggest concern, is government has gotten so big that and you have a Federal Reserve that is financing the debt, monetizing the debt, that were already in this spiral where the economy will be held back. The private economy, rather. Steve well, the danger with the Federal Reserve monetizing the debt the way that it has, the fed effectively printing money is something that markets have completely overlooked and that is the possibility of inflation in our future, as these dollars start to circulate in the economy. And so that is a real threat. And the way you deal with a big national debt, we had a big one after world war ii, is by reducing taxes, reducing regulations as we did after world war ii and the economy came back and the debt as a proportion of the economy went down through positive aapproachs, same way reagan did it in the 1980s. I wonder whether the democrats are so desperate as we know, the republicans made real gains in the house. I wonder if theres been talks the democrats may try to expel two republican members, one who won by 6 votes, another one i think by 30 or 40 votes that, were certified as winners, but as you may know from history, 1985 the democrats expelled a republican winner in a district in indiana and put in his owe of pon opponent. Are they going to try to do that again, to say we dont accept the election, theres tall talk of it. Whats interesting, the democrats are making motions to expel two members of congress that were elected. They want to do it in the body on the floor of the house. Contrast that with how President Trump is dealing with his campaign and election, which is fighting out the process in the courts. Its amazing the democrats and Mainstream Media want to begrudge President Trump the ability to fight his election in the courts, yet they turn around and theyre silent on the democratic camp to not litigate in the courts and yet just take the vote to the chamber, the house, and try to expel or not seat two duly elected members. Its amazing the contrast and the fact that the Mainstream Media doesnt Pay Attention to what the democrats are ruling to override the will of the people. Theyre simply focused on criticizing President Trump for fighting his election in the courts. Dagen and spook speaking of radio speaking of radio silence or television silence, congressman Eric Swalwell, House Republicans putting pressure on nancy pelosi over swalwells connection toss a chinese spy, christine fang, calling for his removal from continue tell committee. Guy, is his presence on intel and the Judiciary Committee considered a do you think its a National Security threat . Do you think he stays put . I think that nancy pelosi is very reluctant to remove Eric Swalwell from the Intel Committee. Let me say this. I dont place blame on Eric Swalwell. I place the blame on nancy pelosi and democrat leadership and here is why. They knew he was compromised. They failed to share that they put him on the Intel Committee. What else has nancy pelosi and democratic leadership done that is soft on china. They didnt put anybody on the China Task Force which was set up to combat and deal with china moving forward. Why was that . I wonder what the ccp has on the Democrat Party. Not seating people on the China Task Force, repeatedly being soft on china, this issue with Eric Swalwell, it makes me wonder. Let me say this too. During Eric Swalwells time on the Intel Committee, they were investigating impeachment. During that time they turned a blind eye from the aggression from china. There was little done that was done with the aggression in the South China Sea, very little said about the uyghur population being put in concentration camps, set the stage for china to violate International Agreements and concert hong kong, a city state that is tied in with the west. Well see a lot of aggression from china. Will the Democrat Party continue to be soft . Dagen when they were impeaching President Trump, the chinese virus was spreading across the United States. Theres that as well. Congress maveman guy reschentha, thank you so much. Well be right back. More mornings with maria straight ahead. These days, we want sophisticated but simple. Pay pal allowing users to buy and sell the assets and will expand the use as a payment early next year. Carolina panthers tackle russell okunks announcing hes having half of his salary converted to bitcoin. Steve, thats putting half your money on one asset class. Your reaction to all this . Steve well, the rise in bitcoin i think shows real people having real doubts about the integrity of the u. S. Dollar. The problem with bitcoin and the Football Player underscores it i think is its so volatile. If you want to get paid, you want something that has real value. Would you borrow money in bitcoin where you could owe 100,000 one day but 10 million the next. Steak one day, dog food the day after. The volatility undermines its ability to be a real currency. So when they get so i think bitcoin has a future when they make it stable but you dont have to worry about that kind of volatility. As long as its volatile, it will never replace the currencies we have now except in an emergency. Dagen steve, asking a very basic question. How do you make it stable . How do you reduce that volatility in this currency, this Digital Currency . Steve the way you do it is you fix it, to Something Like gold or asset like that or some are trying to do it with the swiss franc. Its been the most Stable Currency for 100 years. People want that stability. Bitcoin is the dollar on steroids in terms of volatility. That volatility over time, dagen, has really hurt investment. You dont know what youre going to get paid back in. Thats going to hurt productive investment. So the flight to bitcoin is a damnation of the way Central Banks have been managing currencies, its not a replacement. It those be something that you can trust and easy to use, not have high fees attached, which is the case with pay pal. Dagen do you think more businesses will accept bitcoin . Again, greater adoption would go a long way in acceptance. Courtney its going to be hard to say, especially for Small Businesses who dont have the capital outlay, they cant afford all this volatility and to steves point, if something is one day is going to be dog food, one day is going to be steak, they cant afford to make up the differences. Thats the biggest problem with bitcoin. You cant buy anything with it. Hopefully it will get adopted. That would go a huge way. Meantime, you hope somebody else will pay a higher price 234 the future. You cant buy anything with it in the meantime. The speculation is a big concern and its not a safe haven. We look earlier in the year, the markets were down 30 and so was bitcoin. Its not something you can fall back on when the markets are down. Its a small sample size thus far. I dont think its something we can look at viably yet. Dagen i want to ask you about the overall stock market in the last year. Its almost unthinkable that the market has done what it did, given the fact that we still have its 14 Million People collecting Unemployment Benefits through the federal program, but still millions of americans who are unemployed. Where do we go in the new year . Because as you pointed out, so much of this has been stimulus from the Federal Reserve. Will that juice continue to lift stock prices . Steve stock as you know try to anticipate the future and if joe biden and the democrats, president elect biden and the democrats took six months off and did nothing, this economy would of come roaring back and the market would look like its fairly valuing asset values. But we all know when they come in, theyre going to put in massive new regulations in everything from banking to farming to energy and everything else, repeal a lot of the deregulation of donald trump, thats going to hurt the formation of new businesses. Theyre having a tough time already. So i think the market is not anticipating, even if the democrats lose georgia, even if republicans keep the senate, they could do a lot of harm, the democrats, with regulation. I just dont think the markets doing that and i also worry about the fed overprinting money which gets back to bitcoin. You saw the gold price rise up in 2020. Bu2020 for the very samereason,e dollar. I think thats going to become a bigger issue in 2021 as a lot of the trillions start to flow through the economy. Dagen i think part of the problem is, is that anything that it was the attitude in the Democratic Party that anything trump did was bad. Despite the way whatever he did, it was just bad. And they just ignore, had they talked about following the science, well, they ignored the data where you had like rising real household income, rising faster for black americans, latino americans, you had wages rising for rank and file workers faster than their bosses for the first time in a decade. So steve you also saw the rise for the first time in a long time, businesses starting by africanamericans in a way that hadnt happened before and latinos were starting businesses at three times the rate of any other group in america. Huge story out there, entrepreneurship rising up in these communities and hurt by covid but if you had the right policies, theyd come right back again. I dont think were going to get those right policies and youre right, those with the least will be hurt the most by what the democrats are going to do. Dagen steve, thank you. Coming up, battling to stay alive, were talking to one new york city Restaurant Owner on how businesses are surviving amid new lockdowns, plus, boston dynamics does it again, its robot shows off new dance moves just in time for new years, its making a buzz this morning. Futures are on the rise this morning, pulling back a little bit. 72 point gain on the dow futures, just two trading days left in 2020. Markets switching gears yesterday, all three major market gauges finishing lower after the stimulus vote on 2,000 payments was blocked at least temporarily. European markets looking like this, the market in france is still slightly lower but slight gains in england and germany. European Union Officials signing the post brexit deal today. In asia overnight, markets mostly higher, slight loss on the nikkei in japan. New york city closing out 2020 as one of the most violent years in recent memory. Cheryl casone has details. Cheryl. Cheryl that is right, dagen. As of yesterday, new york city recorded 447 killings this year, that is the highest number since 2011, and a 41 increase over last year. Police commissioner dermot shea is coming out of the dark period. The city is safer than it was in the early 1990s when there were more than 2,000 killings per year. Well, an Appeals Court in new york is upholding the briber econ vicks for a chinese think tank official who has ties to hunter biden. He was convicted in 2018 of offering bribes on behalf of cefc china energy. Emails and Text Messages showed that hunter biden attempted to secure a business deal with the company in 2017. The bucs also made history as the first team in the league to have 12 different players make a 3point shot in one game. What is in the water there . Dagen thank you so much, cheryl. Cheryl casone. Restaurant rage, data shows that new yorks restaurants and bars account for just 1. 4 of covid cases over the last three months, while private and social gatherings accounted for nearly threequarters. 74 . This as Governor Cuomo still insists on banning all Indoor Dining. Joining me now is brooklyn chophouse director of operatio operations. What have you been doing to prevent the spread of covid at brooklyn chophouse. In march, we started a 40step plan when the state told us to do a 12point plan. Weve done everything from converting a metal detector into a thermometer when you enter into the restaurant. We were doing checks, documenting checks. We sanitized all the plates and silverware. Dividers throughout the whole restaurant. We did this very early on. By middle of march we were all ready for Indoor Dining. Unfortunately, that didnt come until the summer. Dagen talk about where business is right now with the shutting down of Indoor Dining. How are you getting by . And whats business been like . Are people still coming out . I literally walked by my local bar, which is at the end of my street in west chelsea, and there were only two people eating outside. They were both elderly women who were roughly 80, wearing what appeared to be well, giant fur coats of. Thos. Those are the only people dining. I gave them a little round of applause. But i dont mean to make light of this. This is hurting Business Owners, this is hurting families, this is hurting everybody who works in a restaurant. Yeah, you know, at first we did trust government. In march and aim and we quarantined and did everything we were supposed to do. What theyre doing now we believe that Governor Cuomo is going to follow the science and unfortunately thats not the case, especially in manhattan. Like you said, 1. 4 of the spread is due to restaurants. 74 of the spread is due to home gatherings. To shut it down on the most celebratory month of the year to me is it doesnt make any sense. Theres no reason for it. Because whats happening here, and i see the data, were actually doing a very big togo business. We could see that home of gatherings, not just like a dinner for two, were seeing trays and trays of food going to one address. And my biggest fear is that the covid spread in january is going to be two or threefold of what were experiencing in december and thats for the only reason of closing Indoor Dining where i believe people are safest. Theres a controlled atmosphere and we just lost that with the current law that Governor Cuomo put in. Makes no sense. Dagen when you limit the when you limit the amount of space that people are allowed to occupy outside of their homes, where are they all going to gather . And its in smaller spaces. Because quite frankly, peoples apartments provide them less space with your dining room. And people who go out and eat are generally very careful about if they have any symptoms, not going out. And so thats one of the reasons one of the explanations i heard for the he lo low infectin rate. I want to bring steve forbes in here. Steve, this is something we were talking about, im going to bring it up, in the commercial break. In terms of government decision making, what about the abbott athome tests that literally were never distributed by the states to people to test themselves. Its the failure of government, failure of those leaders, and if you just handed those tests to dumped them into the private sector, you would have had people buying them up and handing them out to friends in their homes. Steve thats right. Dagen go ahead, steve. Steve i was going to say, in terms of whats happening in new york of restaurants, the mayor of new york said its okay to take the subway but you cant eat inside a restaurant. And absolutely crazy. In terms of testing, that abbott test, they put restrictions in that you had to have it results go through a laboratory and a stupid things like that. And theres a test coming out of a company being distributed next month where you can do it at home, get the test result at home, for less than 30 and the technology exists where you can have those inhome tests for less than 5 and get the results instantly. Thats a failure of government. Your point is welltaken on that, dagen. Absolutely. Dagen i wanted to just get to this followup question as well. Youre actually expanding. Youre opening this one of a kind, 24 hour quick serve restaurant, called the brooklyn dumpling shop. Again, this really goes to just the grit of Restaurant Owners and entrepreneurs about just innovating in every way possible. Tell us about that. Well, you know, i fell in love with the automatt and the Business Model was written before covid for economic and efficiency reasons. When covid hit, we put the other Safety Measures inside the automatt. We like to call it the tesla of automatts because its controlled by your phone and you handle the whole ordering process with 100 contactfree from any of our staff. Youll see our staff behind a glass wall but when you walk in youll see a wall of basically colorful heated refrigerated lockers that you control from your phone and its really cool. Were really excited. Were going to launch this hopefully when restrictions are lifted, were going to launch this sometime late winter in the lower east side. Dagen there is something addictive and fascinating about opening that little door. [laughter] its just i dont know what it is about the personal retrieval of your dish or your item. Really quickly, switching gears to your 14yearold daughter, she was bullied for contracting covid19 which you described as worse than the actual virus. Tell us more about that and i hope shes all right. Thank god she tested negative. She was a real trooper. When she tested positive in november 20th, we got a call from the department of health tracers. She cooperated for about three or four hours, not just giving names and numbers of her friends that she had immediate contact with, she gave them friends of friends of friends that added up to 30 different individuals. I was very proud of her for the cooperation and even the department of health said something alarming to me. Wow, weve never seen such cooperation from a family. And i said what do you mean by that . And basically he turned around and said this age group from sixth grade to tenth, sometimes we dont get a phone call back to start the tracing. That was shocking to me. Within 48 hours, i got the reason why. My daughter was being bullied on tiktok, saying thank you for having me quarantine. Then i started getting texts from parents that were saying if anything happens to my elderly parents, my daughter had indirect contact with your daughter, this is on you. I was just shocked that this is the behavior of adults and children and basically Cyber Bullying in the world of covid. And these kids are going through so much, so much basically with the unknown, and then theyve got to worry about Cyber Bullying on top. It was quite alarming to us. My daughter i was really proud of her. Dagen were proud of her and thank you so much. Im glad shes okay. Good to see you. Please come back soon. Among the participants here, Healthcare Network privia health. Joining us now is the ceo of privia health, sean moore. Can you tell us about this study and what to expect from this particular vaccine . Good morning, dagen. Great to join you this morning. Yeah, at privia, we provide a lot of tools and technology and talent for physicians to participate in frontline healthcare as well as trials such as this and we participated in some of the other trials. The astrazeneca trial has grown pretty rapidly and will continue to do so with the great patient response were seeing. We were proud to be, as one of the Fastest Growing medical groups in th the country to be selected to do it along with others of, such as New York University and johns hop of kins. Hopkins. Its important to note, i think the upcoming trials are really as we all realize it, without the ability to do them and offer this out, we started vaccinations last week and its just important to have effective vaccines to end this covid pandemic or its going to continue to be elongated. Were honored to do our small part. Dagen what do you make, really quickly, about getting this vaccine out even faster than its being delivered now . Where, if there are where are the hiccups . Where are the roadblocks in this . I see elderly people my father has called three of his physicians, his cardiologist, nurses, cardiologist office practically hung up on him, kind of nasty on the phone. If you have people han trying tt the vaccine, you want to encourage that, not discourage them from noting to get it. I agree with that. Each state is running the logistics of the vaccine administration. Were in six states and d. C. And growing and i can tell you as you noted, we started the vaccines, Vaccination Administration with a lot of our patients last week in texas, its going pretty well. There is no doubt, its a you know, to administer literally tens of millions, hundreds of millions of vaccinations, its going to take a while. And im with you. I have an 89yearold mother and 80yearold motherinlaw that want to get the vaccine, just like i do, and its just were going to have to kind of hang in there and work through all of the logistics. Dagen right. Its the front page of the New York Post today by the way, how theres outrage because congressional staffers, up to two workers in every congressmans office can now get the shot before most americans, before your grandmother, your grandfather, your mother, your father, even somebody who is battling, say, cancer. So that makes no sense. Tell us about the importance of telemedicine, its become very popular during covid19. Even in terms of particularly Mental Health. Does it whats the future look like beyond the pandemic . Yeah, i think its safe to say, telemedicine, telehealth, whatever we used to call it, really it exploded in the pandemic. I mean, it proved to us in the Healthcare Industry and consumers and the doubters out there that you could provide really excellent healthcare, obviously its not it doesnt work in every episode. There needs to be facetoface inperson visits, but it just shows that you can provide great care. Our privia physicians transformed their practices and provided over 8,000 visits to individual wall visits, just virtual visits, just in a matter of weeks when the pandemic started. And it was its just critical. It enabled them to see these patients, like our we were speaking a while ago, our grandmothers, grandfathers, people that didnt need to be in ers, to enable those facilities to see the people that they needed to, it proved to us that physicians and patients can maintain Close Relationships virtually and patients, more importantly, they love it. We provided, like were speaking to over the 96 with the 96 satisfaction rate to over almost 70,000 unique seniors. The genies out of the bottle on virtual care. Patients are going to demand it. If physicians dont have access to it, patients will go somewhere else to get their healthcare. Dagen thank you so much for being here. Happy new year. Sean morris. Time for morning buzz, first up, not all animals can fly, alaska airlines, the latest to crack down on emotional support animals that passengers can bring on planes, only qualified service dogs are allowed to sit on the floor or a passengers lap. Have you to leave your peacock or miniature horse at home. The he peacock never got on the flight. I was some woman in the airport. Courtney, extreme rule or right on time . Courtney i thought it was odd timing. Were going in a phase with covid where Mental Health is increasing, people are nervous to travel and everybody has adopted dogs right now and i think when i initially saw the headline i did think it would include dogs, it doesnt, im happy to see that. I think a lot less people will travel with exotic pets. We want to get people flying, help people through emotional issues, it seems like an odd timing to me personally. Dagen its a revenue grab. Always has been. The reasons they made a stink about it, because they charge you if you bring your dog in a carrier on the plane, like delta charged you i think its 250 roundtrip just for the dog to sit underneath the seat. So its about money, nothing else. Next, robots busting a move, boston dynamics does it again with all your favorite robots coming together for a dance. Take a listen. Do you love me. Do you love me. Steve, does this freak you out . Steve no, quite the opposite. I wish they had these when i was younger so i didnt have to go to dancing school, just let the robots do it. They do the dancing better than we did when there was a dance around recently called the robot. These guys put us all to shame. Im all for it. I wish we had it earlier. My wife would like it too so her feet would be spared in the future. [laughter] dagen i love it. I think youre a good dancer, steve forbes. Stay with us. More mornings with maria, next. Reaction. When issue the senate i assume that is what you are talking about. Dagen yes, sir, that is it. Yeah, so i think, that mcconnell trying to do what president would like him to do address these issues, 2,000 dollars is somewhat controversial 00 as you said already starting to go out the door, there was a lot more in this relief package than just that money. You know there was controversy discussion about foreign aid obviously, the president brought that up all those things have been negotiated usually not associated with stimulus bill, built this started getting thrown together i think if you want to do 2,000, you start looking at how we are going to pay for it, because going back to phase two phase three people said what next people said i want to make sure we Start Talking about how we are going to pay for some of these things i think logical thing to do paib we could look at foreign aid, make reductions there, help the American People will. Did you vote against 2000 dollar check. I did. I did. Dagen why. For that reason, because we really werent addressing how we are going to pay for this, and where is it actually going, you know the real key to getting us back on track is to have our economy open, weve got a vaccine right now, people should be able to start lining up to get that. And i think that is going to make a huge difference for us obviously, and in that vein i want to express condolences to the young congressmanelect and his family, succumbing to covid 1. Dagen a media prayers blessings to his party hard switch but senate today voting on whether or not to override the president s veto on defense bill was handed order of by the house earlier this week, the president vetoed the bill last kwlooek week did not real controversial section, 230 act shields Big Technology companies from liabilities related user posted content something i have been talking about literally for years. How do you examine the senate to vote today again, senator Bernie Sanders, among a few, threatening to hold that, up, in order to get 2000 dollar checks instead of 600 dollar checks. You know that is how senate works sometimes. I think it is important that we address section 230 as you have been talking about, you know, what is supposed to be in platforms just open chalkboard to vote things unfortunately, a propaganda tool for some, needs to be addressed, when it comes to our defense, you know, it is first constitutional duty is to provide for the defense of our country. And this is a bill that is done the right way if a bipartisan fashion hundreds of amendments voted up and down and we go through a process, and we put a bill out there, and get it on the president s desk, and i voted to override the veto i think it is too hugely important, for us to wait any longer, we need to get this settled, but, at the same time, do i agree with the president one hundred percent on addressing section 230. Steve jump in here. Steve i sit on intelligence can he i am wondering what vibes about chinas intersections towards taiwan especially with new administration coming in could be rather ominous, what should the u. S. Policy be on taiwan . Well i think, personally i feel we need to gotten to protect taiwan in any way that we can, and maintain our relationship with them, do i have concerns that chinas actions if they see any type of weakness from United States on that i think they will make a move just as they did with hong kong i mean that was note supposed to happen the way it happened. They are on a roll if you will they are trying to dominate the region, and to have global dominance they will do it any way they can they feel taiwan is theirs, so i think that is a concern, that i have, ive had concerns about chinas aggressiveness for sometime, other members on the committee were looking in another direction, but china is our number one concern amongst many concerns. Dagen speaking of Intelligence Committee stay on top of that growing number of House Republicans calling for removal of california congressman Eric Swalwell from Intel Committee in the house swalwells connections to chine chineses exposed should swalwell remain on committees have you gotten a clear answer from nancy pelosi when they found out, because, every briefed about this five years ago whenever it happened. No, i was not a major concern, because you this that i Something Like this took place, if mr. Swalwell is innocent in every regard we would be warned this type of activity is taking place we should be on guard for chinese activity, we get some of that information, as members of the military we understand, that these types of things take place. But we didnt get any of that information i want to know what did nancy pelosi no and what what did adam schiff know and what what did Eric Swalwell know and when . Why was this woman allowed to return to china that is confusing to me why she was able to get away fbi didnt arrest her while all this was a going on jim comey and Robert Mueller in charge of the fbi are in the habit of protecting democrats in some way . I dont understand that. Do democrats think this is going away that people are going to stop asking questions about it . I think that they would like it to go away i think that is one of the things that they would like to just see happen but it cant, this is too big an issue too great a concern, a concern to everyone who sits on that committee, and with mr. Swalwell in the room wondering what connections does he still have, keep in mind this started when he was a local councilman not when he was actually in congress. But carried over when in congress he apparently from what we have. Do democrats see fortune as the threat it is . Do they see china do they are they ignoring what is going on, in the United States, of china, and the communist party particularly examine communist party trying to infiltrate our universities, us know Chinese Embassy in texas, for example. Like do they see it as a threat it is . Because that virus came from well china. Dagen virus came from china there is no doubt about that. Last four years on the Intelligence Committee, the democrats have seemed focused on russia trying to try trump or Trump Associates with russia, obviously, that was proven false saying look this direction look this direction rather than looking at what china is doing that is a major concern, we as republicans on the Intelligence Committee continue to pursue the efforts of what fortune was doing getting knowledge about what they were doing, so that we could address those issues the democrats didnt seem too interested in it compared to republicans, and i hope that that he realize now that there is a problem, and i think, most members of congress do understand it. Members on Armed Service committee understand it, but under direction of adam schiff was pretty much lets not look over there, lets just continue to focus on trying to take down the president. Congressman Brad Wenstrup thank you so much great to see you happy new year to you. Thank you. See you 2021 returning to air outlook for boeing as 7 7 max jet makes its first flight in yearly two years a covid19 passport what you will need for next vacation, as everyone feels the travel bugging. You are watching mornings with maria live on fox business. These days, its okay to do some things halfway. But taking prescriptions shouldnt be one of them. So cvs has a proprietary search tool that looks for savings. Plus free delivery. Get a free prescription savings review at cvs. Dagen ready for takeoff boeing 737 max returning to commercial Service Airlines flight 718 aircrafts first since grounded nearly two years ago joining me now the he Sterling Team operating partner former spirit air lines ceo thank you for being here this morning 737 max back in service, will people want to fly in it does it even matter to people getting on a plane . They just want to get where they are going . Well, happy new year dagen, great to be with you, you know, i think there is going to be a lot of attention, to these early flights, on reintroduced 737 max because of obviously, the terrible crashes it happened over 20 months ago, but eventually, in just in a few months i think there will be plenty of these planes flying in the air, i think the changes made both to the engineering of the plane, and the training for the pilots, both directly address the issue that were identified in those accidents, and so i think that within a few months will just be another plane in the air people will board it not think twice about it. Dagen sko talk about state of the airline industry, the newest covid19 relief bill provided airlines 15 billion dollars payroll assistance is this enough, again, people were are airlines going to need more moving to 2021 . Case certainly over the holidays, people the airports, planes were, quite frankly, packed. Well packed with a lot less capacity than was flying a year ago still a lot of planes grounded, yes planes are full for the holidays airlines still arent flying a lot of planes i think the important thing this is a changed economy for travel, unclear how much Business Travel is returning, and unclear when families and friends are going to be comfortable traveling in groups again, because of that, the most proactive airlines out there, are changing flight schedules thinking about how they are going to do business in this new world i think the payroll protection put in place was good helped airline manage their cash through o potentially a twoifsht season after holidays at least, but for the airlines to return employees from furlough mostly american and united as united said most employees are going to lose jobs the end of four months because the airlines wont move them again, the important thing i think not just to artificially pay employees to come working when there isnt work to do but for airlines to recognize, the new economy, fewer Business Travels more leisure traveling where do people want to go . And follow states staying open avoid, or flying less to states arbitrary open more flights to florida than new york, of course, because of different policies in those states. So i think that the government is doing a good thing by with payroll protection but not a longterm solution for fixing what the airline really need. Which airlines are coming out of this the strongest then. Dagen, i think the airlines that are lower cost, first of all, they dont need as much revenue to get cash positive again, because their costs are lower but also the airlines that have not depended historically an carrying a lot of Business Travel by Business Travel i mean the travel where your company pays for your travel when you go. That is the travel that is most at risk of not coming back fully so airlines that have depend on that travel big four in u. S. American united Delta Southwest those airlines have to figure out how they live with more leisure traffic and less business traffic on their airplanes, the air lines that are comfortable with leisure traffic basically all airlines, they are already good at that so i think they are going to emerge from this stronger than the big four. Great to see you this morning ben baldanza the a happy and safe knew year see you in 2021, admirable, President Trump taking a new title from president obama he held 12 years we look at that next real sales up this Holiday Season, what recent trends say about the industry future. You are watching mornings with maria live on fox business. Aint nothing but a thursday, i want now you see sanctuary music kids laughing upbeat tempo sanctuary music its the final days of the wish list sales event sign and drive off in a new lincoln with zero down, zero due at signing, and a complimentary first months payment. America gallup poll shows President Trump unseated, barack obama as most adtired man in america breaking the 12 year streak last year dr. Fauci appears on the poll for the first time left wing lunatics on social media steve have lost their minds about this. What say you it is the policy steve that is right, i think what the president did in terms of of getting these inconvenience as quickly as we did, was a tribute to him because he put the private sector the government together in a way democrats wouldnt even done when they faced diseases in the past like h1n1 they flopped the only flaw in poll on womens side shocked that you and maria werent on it i think theyve got to do better methodology on the female side. Dagen i appreciate the sucking up steve. Steve but you like it. Dagen i like you had a mire you i dont think pouty mouth is one of the thing that would put anybody on that list speaking of women on the list, Michelle Obama former first lady the list of most admired woman third year in a row kamala harris, alexandria ocasiocortez appear for the first time your thoughts on that Melania Trump on list one percentage point more than opera Winfrey Courtney what do you say . So a . Courtney i honestly dont find that surprising it is about political leaders i think the ones making the most noise are getting some of those admiration points right now something weve got to be watching but it is fascinating especially if you look at trump being one of the highest winners, are it is odd you looked at polls he didnt show that he was that popularity i am not it is going to be interesting to see how things play out versus polls. Dagen President Trump saw early on only way out is via vaccine believing in the private sector, by the way, Drug Companies that have been routinely vilified year after year after year by democrats people on the left but, now, the the narrative is the Vaccine Distribution is going slowly and i will just point out, that it was it was say Governor Cuomo here in new york, who was talking about what he actually said we need to stop the trump administrations Vaccine Distribution. Until he is out of office. So if you want to point fingers why vaccine not getting out with speed, it it falls on the shoulders of people like andy cuomo. It shows trump derangement in motion cuomo made that announcement, then trump said okay, you are not going to get figures round of vaccines, cuomo was furious saying you are discrimination against new york after he said dont send it because i dont trust it. Yeah, that is out there i also think the president s policies other areas reviving the economy before it hit, early stimulus packages apparently lost election i think achievements are there, by the way, delighted melania is on the list because she has been totally unfairly iced by all managers normally would have been on covers of managers they all blocked her, the fact she made the list anyway whos power of personality. Dagen my personal opinion i would consider it a great honor to not be on the cover of one of those magazines i think magazines like vogue, are completely useless, i think that they send a message to women not just american women but of women around the globe set standards of appearance arent attain tonl most people they dont reward achievement i dont think anna wintour is the standard for any woman, in this nation and this world i stopped plying them a long time ago i just dont i mean shoot, i would rather watch the crown that is more reality than those magazines. Steve [laughter] thank you so must have we are talking retail sales for a Holiday Season like no other, recent trends say about the industrys future plus covid19 passport, maria has been talking about this almost all year what you need for your next vacation, with everyone feeling the travel bug. I dont want to lose your trust. Did you know that geicos whole 15 minutes thing. That came from me. Really. My first idea was in one quarter of an hour, your savings will tower. Over you. Figuratively speaking. But thats not catchy, is it . Thats not going to swim about in your brain. So i thought, what about. 15 minutes. 15 percent. Serendipity. 15 minutes could save you 15 or more on car insurance. Dagen welcome back i am Dagen Mcdowell for maria bartiromo. Maybe tomorrow lets do it. 2020 Holiday Season wrapping up this week, u. S. Holiday retail sales growing 3 over 75day period beating low expectations for a pandemic year this pandemic year, online sales grew by an impressive 49 from a year ago as a shoppers stayed out of crowded stores and shopping malls, joining me now former toys r us ceo, is trend of increased online sales here to stay post pandemic; right . Absolutelying dagen, dn world the haunted mansion say theres no turning back now there is no going back to this people not as eager to shop on line tried it particularly older people may have befound out it works. You know huge increases in online most of it is go being to stick. Who do you think at least short term last year has done best job adapting kind of quickly to Online Shopping . I see just even, very small retailers in new york city up their game ikea has done a better job at adapting to quick shipping. You know people can try takes a long time to get it right takes a lot of money, to get at the only online if you dont buy search terms on Google Facebook you are invisible if not on amazon as retailer invisible to most people winners besides obviously, amazon, are people like target, walmart, huge increases online triple digits in cases on top of getting traffic in Stores People stayed open during day only essential retailer could stay open as well as huge online increase people had technology could drive you to pick up at store these are real winds every winners other winners home depot, lowes with astounding numbers by any kind of historical standards, but a more for homes people doing more another home biggest lowers apparel Stories Department stores losing already nowhere to get dressed up and go pace of loss accelerated. Courtney i love to sending is increasing idea next year we can see start of new roaring 20s especially millennials entering highest income of theyear highest spending saved a lot of money over this time frame, spending will likely increase i am curious your take on that kind of how you see that generation online homes hoping that generation specifically do you see that continuing in the future . I think that it is going to continue. Keep in mind there is still a lot of people my kids, for example, do not go out and shop into the locations because of what is going on with covid still is a little concerned about that, i think there is going to be explosion of like water in top of water tower all this capacity all this energy that is built up going to come rushing out you the when people seal safe to come out numbers yearoveryear are astounding november up 7 this year versus last year prepandemic, core retail restaurants down hadnt been down would have been pretty darned high overall in december one report, 3 , i am not sure that is right maenz december would have been way down if it was only because people werent going shopping because of capacity restraints people are eager to get out there shop even more i think what you said is absolutely correct going to be even better next year what is astound to go me how people take monthovermonth say he retailers stalling out Something Like that i dont know what they are talking about all i look at what i did last year this year same month it was up darned good. Dagen well said steve forbes jump in. Steve how do you see the malof the future how do you see that morphing in future that space. That is a really great question, malls egregiously over built two to three times Square Footage that we needed people looking at town indianapolis put one in ever quadrant even if they didnt have people that would shop in mall put them there any the idea you would drive out go shopping it was a draw because you wanted to shop, apparel clothing dying doesnt work they said we will make it experiential, restaurants movie theatres, not sure they come back anytime soon this market without a purpose as you walk around so there is an answer, for the best malls they are in best locations, malls built for all development around them amalls prime location best real estate in town what is going to happen they need to the places you live with residents you work, you eat with restaurants you play, that you shop also so basically going to walk everywhere you want to go instead of taking Public Transportation dealing with all that. That is future of malls still incredible places, the real estate is best real estate in the world other malls have to redeploy, doctors offices, kidney dialysis i dont know what concerns, but you there are a large number have to close on the other spectrum in a refor amalls is incredibly valuable dwell rz have been beaten down really smart people they are coming out of this like symone Even Stronger than they ever were. Quickly kind of urban areas, like new york city, is a wasteland now even before the pandemic, you had large retailers, just going under, barneys luxury retailer jeffrey smaller was shut down you go up and down some of these shopping thoroughfares, they are very few stores, i wonder who moves in there if anybody. Going to take a long time that is the reality of it. We dont have time toub take about all the issues um a florida resident, dyed and true couldnt take taxes initial they are working like i am we are making money in florida not paying taxes there is a big problem in new york not going away quickly, there still is one new york the main treats fifth avenue i am not so worried about that rents will be lower may take five years a decade but going to come back i know that because it is you know you still need that cluster of high end retail somewhere on planet doesnt mean city could support what it had before the rents it had before mom and pops i pay for them everyone that daptdz the way you said five more just couldnt do it it is too expensive to build web sites the rest in order to play in order to win i think a long haul for new york. Dagen theyve been crushed by land lords they have been crushed by land lords appalling what i have seen during he pandemic people being taken to court when they were a couple months behind on their rent, and they wouldnt negotiate. They were happy to vick old tenant it is disgusting. Renting in new york insane, we owned ff. A. O. Schwarz when i was running toys r us the amount of money they wanted for us to stay there, is no way you can make money the landlord would make every darned penny up and down fifth avenue people putting stores in there unsustainable rents in order to have a approximation on fifth avenue that isnt going to happen a very long time. Show a deserted, madison avenue is deserted, happy new year. A supermarket safer becomes a villain . Dagen one hailed as survivor of super markets, instacart, good to see you so much to talk about good morning, dagen. Dagen is there a way for instacart in supermarkets to coexist i stopped using instacart it was kind of a anymore. I think they are getting their act together obviously, this is still really new, you know. You know, were seeing, you know, we are known as destination Retail Food Store an mitigating fresh food we want customers into the store right now they want to stay home get it delivered to their home instacart has done a great job at doing that right now. Dagen most let me ask you, this, this is something every time my father goes to the local supermarket foodline comes home angry, because there are so many people in the supermarket arent wearing masks, and you cant you cant be thank you know the mask police, but what about you . How do you how are you managing that people dont like being told what to do it is kind of your responsibility to make sure people are shopping safely how are you maintained. We are in metro new york area i guess high alert here we have no problem our customers masks, Customer Service one rotten to mato in the group if they dont have one we give them one when they walk in one hundred percent masks at stew leonards right now i think all retailer should enforce that, because, in our job really as he retailers, it is to try to flatten that curve out get positives, down a little bit. Celebration americans sticking to smaller celebrations this Holiday Season how does that impact your sale . What are you looking for kind of new years eve new years day celebrations, are super bowl. I have been in business 50 years like a Third Generation my grandfather started a hundred years ago there are things this year that have shocked me, out of my entire career. And one of them is the move towards smaller gatherings right now you can see that we saw that thanksgiving we saw at christmas. You know i am sure yourself even my family were not having big gatherings right now, we are expecting, the same thing to happen for new years, the big you know, being, surf and turf king crab legs, finger food, shrimp chicken wings big in new years same with super bowl. Really almost like a finger food celebration that people have but they will be smaller. Dagen you can spend more like fewer people can spend more on food those few people are aggregate; right .
