We have to protect lives and protect livelihoods. One of the new problems with the lockdown orders, all counties in Southern California are lumped in together. The fact that you have los angeles and san diego in the new same category, our icu capacity is very different than los angeles and yet we have another change in the rules and regulations. We have another one size fits all policy. In californians are hurting, particularly our Small Businesses who have followed the rules. They have done everything they have been asked to. Once again to get a new executive order from the governor that is not, and i repeat not based on science when we say, when he says youre going to cut down on Outdoor Dining, you will cut down on the familys ability to take your kids to a playground its not working. Jackie okay lets talk about that for a second because there are two components locking people down. We have to talk about enforceability. You can shut the restaurants, tell the businesses, tell people they cant go out. At the same time we know from thanks giving for example, a lot of people traveled, even people who didnt travel were potentially spreading the virus in their homes just because they were gathering for example. You could see people gathering in their homes as social outlet, because were all dealing with covid19 fatigue here and still have a serious problem on your hands, correct . Yeah. Exactly. You have to remind folks. We have one goal. How will we keep everybody safe . Do not get complacent. To wear that mask. Practice social distancing. To continue to do the right thing. At the same time be able to strike that balance so you can particular hi protect your Small Businesses who have been following the rules, who have been doing the right thing and again to see this new executive order that comes down again with no science based that Outdoor Dining is in any way contributing to the spread of covid19, that is why youre seeing the frustration. That is why youre seeing the anger, not just here in Southern California but up and down the entire state. When youre going to essentially be putting folks out of business right now with no help and support and particularly in california where unemployment department, we have over 500,000 californians trying to get their unemployment support but havent been able to do that, there is a lot wrong with what is happening right now in sacramento. Some democrats said if 1200dollar checks are not in there were not signing off on this. Your comments what congress is bringing together . My sense weve seen a lot of momentum particularly the last week and rightfully so. We need a lot of help and support particularly for our Small Businesses. Folks need that extra help and support. Governor cuomo had a new metric he would judge indoor dining. He said if hospitalizations, if the rate wouldnt increase in five days he would shut down the indoor dining. This city is devastated. It would have huge impact. Mayor de blasio our mayor. He closed the schools down but is opening them again. Doesnt this all seem chaotic and confusing to you . It does. That is part of why were pushing back so hard particularly out here in california. Again when we see a continuing changing of the rules, a moving of the goal posts, when families have been doing the right thing and when we have said to our folks to be outdoors, take your kids and family out there, follow the science and yet we get new orders that dont follow the science yet well shut down Outdoor Dining at least in the case of california saying you cant go out to a play ground, you will have to shut down, that is incredulous. It doesnt make any sense for anybody. It undermines what weve been trying to do to keep everybody safe, get on the other side of this. He called them, he said it was dictatorial kind of attitude. Your thoughts on enforcement . Will people abide by this even if you shut the businesses down . Again, when i think youre seeing once you lose some of that faith in what is coming out from some of your elected officials and the hypocrisy it makes it very difficult. I said clearly you cant ticket your way out of covid19. You have to make sure youre educating, doing the right approach, keeping people safe, constantly doing the right thing. What people dont spanned to very well threats from sacramento that well cut off your funding if you dont do x, y or z. That is no way to approach this. I think it is incredibly important that you continue to do the right thing, push very hard with folks to follow those safety guidelines but as i said before, youre not going to ticket your way out of covid19. They are going to be forced to close whether it is restaurants and hair salons been shut down by Governor Cuomos arbitrary restrictions. These are individuals who are about to lose their livelihood. The governor is saying, perhaps on monday they may have a full shutdown of new York City Restaurants that would be tragic and for some of these restaurants, that i know in the community, it will be the last straw. They will close their doors for good. I think about the employees that are this, how will they support their families. Were coming up on the holiday season. So the entire situation is very tragic. We really urge the governor to reconsider some of the arbitrary restrictions put in place, not just for the restaurants but the houses of worship which the Supreme Court ruled against last week and also for our schools that need to be reopened because children need to get an education. We have students now not in school. We have Public Schools Athletic League programs not in place. This is affecting the mental health, the physical health of our young people.
