Great to see everybody this morning, thank you so much for being here. Greg, let me kick it off with you, get your reaction to what we are seeing in the market. Yesterday sharp decline, better than 500 points on the dow and the selling looks fractional but continuing this morning. Sure, good morning, maria. And thank you for having us on again. We had the opportunity to join the show consistent in the course of 2020, throughout the beginning of the year obviously we talked about coronavirus, then in march, you know, we made a strong pivot to to the monetary side of the equation, so we really feel today a lot of which has driven the market has really come from the Federal Reserve and has come from the liquidity side. Obviously in conjunction with that, we have gotten fair amount of fiscal support as well. Coming out out of this jackson hole symposium. We changed from the other side of the equation. When you listen to the fed its changed and announced new policy frameworks, if you look at credit side of balance sheet, they havent been able to expand the program and at the same time we are struggling here on the fiscal side as well. I think if you look at the march channel from march 23rd, we broke the upward channel somewhere in end of august. Maria yeah, we have been talking about very few alternatives to equities given the level of Interest Rates. Youre talking about the Federal Reserve. Thats really been what this recovery in the market has been about. There arent any alternatives, are you saying that has changed . Well, i just think that tone from the fed has has changed, right . The velocity, i think, of the impact of the fed on markets has tempered here, right. At the same time if you listen to chairman powell, you listen to what hes saying even with secretary mnuchin, hes saying, look, the fed can lend, they cant spend and i think what the economy needs right now is much more on the spending side, on the fiscal side and like i said when you look at the fed programs, plain stream lending facilities, they havent been able to expand the programs. So i think the market is tempering itself here as we saw transition of 6 months of very strong monetary support into the 2020 election. Maria mark tepper, jump in. Mark look, so i think fed chair powells position right now, ive done everything i can do. The economic rebound is going to be even. There are some companies doing really well, but theres other pockets that are struggling and at this point the only thing that are going to help would be to reopen the economy and also fiscal stimulus like greg was saying, he cant control that but he can influence it. Im not for big spending but in capitalism the government is supposed to be empire and not a participant. The government became a participant, they made a mess and they have to clean it out on the way out and you cant expect people to shut down and then make them whole. Thats exactly right. We agree with that completely. Still in our view, you know, we talked about the stimulus but in the end its liquidity whether you look at what we did with the ppp program or Unemployment Insurance and as the economy continues to reopen and as we continue to get our arms around coronavirus and its really a global dynamic, we have seen a lot of negative news coming out of europe and uk in particular as we continue to try and get our arms around that, the economy is going to require more fiscal stimulus and to marks point, i think the fed and really for the first time, the fed is not supposed to insert themselves in the fiscal equation but given the extremity of what we are faced with right now, the fed is in many ways over last 6 months, they are overstepping their boundaries a little bit but that tells you how severe this is. Maria absolutely. Let me get your take on the backdrop, having said all of that. Ceos are calling for stimulus, business round table and thirdquarter survey, plans improving but remain fragile underscoring the need for policy make toaster take additional action to support a strong and sustainable economic recovery. Ceos remain concern about Small Businesses, the round table executives remain optimistic about Business Conditions overall, twothirds believe conditions will normalize by the end of the year. Look at what Goldman Sachs is doing, lowering expectations for the gdp so the backdrop expectations are still quite fragile. Whats your take . Do we need stimulus . What do you see in the second half of the year in terms of the backdrop, the economy . Yeah, i dont think theres any question at this point we do need some fiscal stimulus to get us through at least through the rest of 2020. I think theres a will. I mean, the economy wants to reopen very aggressively here, but at the same time, you know, we have challenges moving forward and i would also add, obviously, weve got this election in in november and, you know, the dynamics around that have really shifted too in terms of will we have an actual outcome on november 4th. I think when was put all of that in the blender and you look at the news from Goldman Sachs downgrading forecast. We have been in this sort of unevening reopening to have economy. We think next year can be a strong year but shortterm as we get through the election and the dynamics right now with the fed theyre not going to away. But the velocity has tempered and at the same time we have fiscal distort. Maria all right, greg, thank you so much. Great analysis from you, good to see you, agreeing. We were one of the first stations to pilot a fleet of zero emissions electric vehicles. The amazon vans have a decal that says, shipment zero. Were striving to deliver a package with zero emissions in to the air. I feel really proud of the impact that has on the environment. But were always striving to be better. I love being outdoors, running in nature. We have two daughters. I want to do everything i can to protect the environment to make sure they see the same beauty ive seen in nature. My goal is to lead projects that affect the world. I know that to be great requires hard work. Maria Supreme Court showdown. President trump to name nominee to the Supreme Court on saturday following the death of Justice Ruth Bader ginsburg. Democrats slamming the decision to nominate judge and nancy pelosi would consider impeachment as way to block a nominee. The president and democratic nominee joe biden both speaking about the issue yesterday. We were elected, we have a lot of times. One justice was picked in 19 days. We could do 4 at that rate or 5. Its better if you go before the election and the scam that the democrats are pulling, the scam will be before the United States Supreme Court. Make the case why this is [inaudible] medical health care is going to be gone. Maria joining me right now the Washington Examiner editorinchief hugo gurdon. Hugo, good to see you. Your reaction to all of this. Hugo you know, maria, the president is only doing what history and the constitution allows. I mean, to say this is abuse of power as joe biden did is absurdity. 19 justices have been nominated in election years when the senate is controlled by the same party as the president and 17 times that justice has been confirmed, thats 89 , so its a suggestion that this is somehow out of historical norm is absurdity. Its not the case when the parties are different, when the senate is controlled by one party and the president another, there only 20 get confirmed and thats what happened with Merrick Garland which the democrats say it was stolen. This is no abuse of power, its straightforward. Its the president s constitutional duty and its going to get done. Maria so let me switch gears and ask you about the peaceful transfer of power. I know that senator ron johnson has been investigating the transfer from the Obama Administration to Trump Administration for some time and he said that the Obama Administration totally wrecked any idea of any peaceful transition back then because of the unmasking of general flynn, because of the wiretapping of an incoming president. Yesterday the president respond today a question over whether he will accept the results of the president ial election if joe biden wins, take a listen. Would you commit to making sure theres a peaceful transfer of power half the election . We will have to see what happens. Ive been complaining very strongly about the ballots and the ballots are a disaster. Get rid of the ballots and youll have a very peaceful there wont be a transfer, frankly. Theyll be a continuation. The ballots are out of control, you know it and you know who knows it better than anybody else, the democrats. Maria so now the president s skeptics, hugo, are going nuts over the response. No mention of what took place during the transition to obama to trump, by the way. Your reaction. Hugo exactly, as i listen to that question, maria, i thought here is the question thats taking advantage of trumps kind of rhetorical clumsiness and stoke the hysteria. The question was asked 3 times, are you going to allow peaceful transfer of power, implicit say it asked the candidate that is to say trump to agree that hes going to lose office, that hes going to lose the election. No president , no no politician likes to concede the hypothetical that hes going to lose. But additionally, it needs to be remembered, the context of this needs to be remembered. Every election, every close election for the past 40 years, its the democrats who said that this has been won by republicans by nefarious and low way. When regan won in 1980 it was done because of secret negotiations negotiations with the ayatolla. If the reporter had said, mr. President , after all ballots are counted and legal actions it is deemed that you have lost the election would you allow transfer of power. My suspicion is that we didnt stoke hysteria that we are now seeing. Maria exactly. Dagen, real quick, dont forget that its the democrats that never accepted donald trump and never accepted the legitimacy of his presidency. Dagen i know that she was exaggerated but, again, they are trying to lay over 200,000 deaths on President Trumps handling to have coronavirus but lets not forget that the democrats were impeaching this president when the coronavirus was just beginning to spread around the United States. Hugo, to your point, this is just a way of President Trump quite frankly sending the media and the democrats down a rabbit hole and to think that he would stand up there and talk about if i lose, thats thats just beyond comprehension for the president to ever stand up there and, oh, yeah, i will talk if i lose in november. Maria yeah, okay. Hugo clearly it was an absurd question and its not going you know, the president cannot be expected to concede in advance that hes going to lose the election. Thats as straightforward as that. Maria yeah, really too much. Hugo, good to see you this morning. Stay with us. We will be right back. Give you my world how can i, when you wont take it from me you can go your own way go your own way your wireless. Your rules. Only with Xfinity Mobile. Maria welcome back, the battle of the white house focusing on swing states, the latest quinnipiac poll shows joe biden leading President Trump by 10 points nationally ahead of election, poll from Washington Post shows edging biden. President trump is picking up some speed here. Dagen particularly in florida, some of the support is coming from latinos. Watch the voting block. Pith President Trump has to win florida in order to win electoral college, watch the latino voters even in places like pennsylvania. If the democrats if the president nominates Amy Coney Barrett to fill in the Supreme Court and the democrats pull a Brett Kavanaugh speccall and spectacle that could help help President Trump and hurt joe biden with women and people who value their religious freedom. Catholics in particular. Also with the debate coming up next week, watch joe biden to see if he fades and fumbles in the closing like half hour debate, not the first hour of the debate. I just want to go back to something he said during one of the the debates last year with his democratic opponents when he was asked about how, he said this, make sure you have record player and make sure kids hear every word. It was just such it was just gobble and that could hurt him, if he loses his train of thought and it seems like hes not on top of his game. I could go on. I have a lot to say. Maria we are all going to be waiting and watching for, mark tepper, jump in. Mark yeah, so over the course of the next 2, 3 weeks a lot of stuff can change, all eyes on the debate next week, right here in my hometown of cl
