Big gain at dow industrials, 221point gain ahead of jobs report out and about 2 and a half hours, but still losses on the nasdaq 100 dipping slightly in futures trading this morning. This after yesterdays massive selloff. Worst singleday drop since june led by Technology Stocks, apple, tesla. Joining me sky Bridge Capital tory and also joining the conversation all morning long, im really excited about you two, dont let me down. Assistant Editorial Page EditorJames Freeman and senior fellow at the National TaxpayersUnion Forward strategist president Mattie Duppler, great to see you. We are spending all morning so we have lots to discuss. Lets move on, troy, talk about the markets. This is something that investors, many people were waiting for a short pullback in Technology Stocks, do they recover from here . Yeah, theyll recover over time, dagen, but the big picture last several weeks youve gotten concerned over how extended the rallies have been and especially if you look at key driver, money supply growth february, march period and as the fed Balance Sheet stops expanding in may and june money stopped expanding 6 to 8 weeks ago and thats been a key driver of market price action and you look at where multiples got to, in s p we got 24 times forward earnings and every time we got higher is in the bubble, late 90s, you had a robust economy and as you know now the economy lagged Capital Markets dramatically as it ever has in history. We think theres a pullback to come given how much frost in the last couple of weeks. Dagen where would you put money to work, not in treasuries . No, so right now our main focus assetback securities specially housing and the Housing Market has come back stronger of what is called the old economy and you see how low Mortgage Rates are and we think thats a good restored. You wont make 15 or 20 over the next six months but you have a very good yield 8 or above. Thats area that we like quite a bit. James freeman, jump in. James, a lot of [laughter] james im not sure how it can be much more accommodated, troy. Zero rates. That wasnt a criticism of the fed, that was a complement and that they responded rapidly. I dont know that that was a complement. Puff isnt but isnt that fuel for stocks going higher whether they should or not. Look at the past, think of how much we rallied off of the lows, right, whether its s p and the nasdaq, so a lot of it had been priced in and you went to multiples 15 all to way to 24 and the question is from here. From here its going to be twoway market where you have more volatility and you have the corrections from time to time and the point if they start expanding by a trillion or two that could drive higher regardless of fundamentals but without that its much harder to see continued, you know, asymmetric that you have here. Is there a jobs number that would make you say on fundament basis stocks are worth it and can go higher or is it so it just totally about fed support and and belief in the longterm growth of the u. S. Economy as opposed to any current valuation . Yeah, look, the expectations are somewhere between 1 and 2 million jobs created. Thats been baked into market consensus for several weeks. Thats been secondary to driving price action to money supply growth and Balance Sheet expansion. That being said if you got higher end of that 1. 6 and 1. 8, you may have see sectors that lagged dramatically especially the banks start to outperform for a longer period of time. Lets call a day or two. Because in that situation you may end up with fed hiking in 2022 as opposed to 2024 and you may see slightly higher interest rates. So i think that jobs report is going to be more impactful on certain sectors that have underperformed as opposed to the Broader Market right now. Dagen mattie, i will get to you next block. James sorry. Dagen i want to thank troy gayeski. Great to speak with you, james. Dagen live with mornings with maria, coverage begins at 8 00 a. M. Eastern time and here is your morning mover, apple, lets talk about some apple. The stock fighting for gains after seeing worst day since march, plunging 8 on the day yesterday. The losses wiping out nearly 180 billion in its market cap. Thats the most that any American Company has lost in a single day and get this the drop was larger than the individual Market Capitalizations of 470 of the 500 companies in the s p 500, if you can believe that. That just shows you how lopsided the overall market has become with these giant, giant Technology Stocks. Apple Still Holding above a 2 trilliondollar valuation. And ride no dagen joe biden visiting kenosha one day after President Trump spoke damage from the riots, calling for unity and takes swipe about the president. Wants to only talk about dividing the country and about law and order. They dont want to talk about all of those people who have died from covid, they dont want to talk about the fact that almost a approximately people filed for unemployment and dont have jobs, they dont want to talk about the fact that you have tens of thousands of businesses closing and maybe for good and they are trying to divert the attention. Dagen our next vowing to rebuild Family Business which was burned to the ground during the riots in kenosha, speaking of destruction of businesses. Joining me now from Kenosha B L Office Furniture scott carpenter, scott, you have owned the business for more than 40 years, give us an update on the recovery there. Scott right now we are looking into tamp rare location that we can move into to set up a show room, start giving our literature back together and touch base with our customers. Right now they are emailing us and reaching us through our phones, but we need to have a show room where we could put things together. Dagen did joe biden visit with any Business Owners down there that you know of . Not that i know of. Nobody reached out to me and talked to me. I would have been willing to talk to him and see what he had to say, but as far as i know i dont think he reached out to any Business Owners, i dont know for sure. Dagen did you meet with President Trump when he was there . Yes, he came to our location and us and three other Business Owners met with him here at the parking lot in our location. He was able to do it and see what happened. It was nice to have more time with him but he runs a pretty tight schedule. I want to bring in mattie doppler, shes from wisconsin. Mattie im sorry to hear about the business and one thing in the midwest that our communities are really important to us and we look out for each other. What can policymakers do for Business Owners like you as you try to heal your community and delay about the jobs and livelihoods that youre responsible in your own communities. What policymakers can do in wisconsin but also federal level to give a path forward for Business Owners like you . Oh, wow. Thats a deep question. Mattie those of us who look at wisconsin and look at our home from washington, d. C. , what can be done better here, what can we do to help businesses that are not just going through tram traumatic events and suffering change where coronavirus has made it difficult. For a Furniture Store owner, youre talking about having a store front, thats something that most businesses have shut down over the last couple of months. How are you getting through the period . We supplied furniture to businesses that were essential, so we were part of a supply chain. Yeah, it was devastating, theres a lot of business that has closed doors for quite a while, but as a small owner, you know, we were fortunate to stay open, we we are not getting rich selling off the furniture or anything like that, but, you know, that was a big plus. I would really like to see some laws change and see what that looks like where we can bring unity to this, being in a small town like appleton, youre a big little town. For the most part everybody works together and they get along when something ugly like this happens. Weve never had any devastation like this so that was a big shock to us. Maybe some support somewhere. I know that the state of wisconsin, i believe, has came forward and they are offering to help with interestfree loans for the businesses. We are probably going to we are probably going to be a couple Million Dollars into it getting things rebuilt and started. We lost the entire building and entire inventory in it. Thats a plus and then coming to us and doing that. Ive never really looked into it on the political side, maybe now i will start looking into it a little more. Dagen scott, thanks for being here this morning. Keep us updated and youre welcome to come back. We just want to know not just about your progress rebuilding but the entire community in kenosha, scott carpenter. Thank you. Dagen coming up President Trump on the campaign trail drawing lines over law and order and we discuss next plus if youre hitting the road for Labor Day Weekend, we have good news for drivers, we are back after the break. The big events are back. Xfinity is your home for the return of live sports. Send in your early ballot and go make sure the ballot is tabulated or counted and if its not counted, vote. Follow that ballot. But you look at new york, the restaurants are all closed. Its so sad and the place is dead. They are never going to open again. On november 4th, they will announce opening, they are doing this for political reasons. He said i was setup, i was set up by the salon owner. I said tell me she didnt say that, please. So i just put out that if she was set up then she shouldnt be leading the house of representatives. I want the salon owner to lead the house of representatives and youre not supposed to get set up, youre representing our country. You know what she should have done honestly, i made a mistake. Dagen that was President Trump last night in pennsylvania slamming the mailin voting process, coronavirus lockdowns and Nancy Pelosis visit to hair salon, james, it is a board of things to talk about, what say you . James yeah, i am prepared to be governed by the salon owner, absolutely. I think that might work out a little bit better. You know, its a unique style but i think hes got a point with number of those comments hes making. It is funny how i think the voting comment was sort of meant to troll the media as opponents who have been insisting that theres absolutely no problem with switching to mailin Voting System or systems across the country and i think obviously there are huge risks. Dagen mattie, the wall street journal has opinion piece about what trump said vote early vote often, thats dubious advice, dont mail in the ballot and go to the polls and even North Carolinas board of elections is discouraging that, but the journal that you work for said if the mail voting is secure as everyone seems desperately to believe, isnt trump correct that twotimers should be turned away, that the outrage on the left and from democrats gives them away, the system should be able to handle a routine test of if somebody attempt today vote twice, they should be able to catch it right, james . James i think theres justifiable concern that a lot of states have switched their rules this year and and mailin voting is very different from absentee ballot. I think people have pointed out on this network, a specific person requesting absentee ballot is usually a relatively small part of voting public in many states, some states do run vote by mail but we have seen when people make the transition to it an allmail vote where youre mailing ballots that are unsolicited and there have been issues and theres reason for concern and it certainly open up the possibility for people who dont want to abuse the system. Dagen mattie. Mattie the problem is Voting System as today. We talked about wisconsin before, ive never had to show an id when i lived there. Theres a problem that are durable and havent addressed in the state before we talk about making changes that would make it easier and accessible. Thats something that the president should be talking about. Hes all for getting people involved in democracy, lackluster participation in the country, but, you know, there are challenge that challenget predates election that we get a handle on. Dagen President Trump has spit ball in style and he is funny, however, he needs to expand beyond his base, mattie are supporting him, over 90 of republicans in polling, hes trailing in independents . Mattie the comment of nancy pelosi, rather than talking about how she shouldnt be duped , she should he should be talking about the business owner. That what is what the president should be saying, listen, im going to continue to build a durable economy for all americans not just for those who are politically connected which
