day one of the republican national convention. do you think that markets would be trading this way if they thought president trump was going to be unseated? >> well, good question, maria, we will certainly have to address that question pretty much on a daily basis the close -- we get to the actual election. i think for investor the key take away no matter who wins the market breathes a sigh of relief, of course, the election is not contested. no matter who wins we will have a contested election. we expect volatility will be on the increase precisely because of the election no matter the other concerns hoovering over the marketplace but at least for this morning i think it was the positive trade talk news coming out of china, maybe the shift in the dow towards really the brave new world of failed sports and other factors mainly fear of missing out that's driving a lot of mall investors into a specific-tech sector run creating what we think a bubble in the tech sector but not a bubble overall, we think there's plenty of value flaps in this marketplace. maria: i guess the point i'm making, jon hilsenrath, if we were going to see a massive change in policy and that's what it would be, it's a complete change in policy because the two candidates could not be more different in terms of where they want to go, i think they would be selling if investors thought across the board that we were going to go to $4 trillion in tax increases which is what biden is proposing? jon: it's hard to say, maria, the markets are looking at all the same polls that we are looking at and if you look at betting markets they are looking the same betting markets. they have biden ahead. it's hard to make assumption in the market. we saw when the president was elected there was huge increase and the big issue for investors is what happens to that corporate tax rate, when the republicans in congress -- maria: that's my point. jon: huge boost -- right, but the thing i'm saying right now is that jack keane. general, always a pleasure, thanks very much for being here this morning. >> great to be here. maria: what's important policy decisions in terms of policy, general? >> well, i think president trump and his team really reset the strategic framework that the world was actually facing but we hadn't owned up to it and that is we are in a big power competition with china and russia and while we've been involved in the middle east with the 911 wars and they had a priority and they will always have some degree of attention to those wars and to make certain that radical islam does not involve the united states and reattack us again, that's certainly is a priority and remains so. the real issue is the competition with china and russia and the fact that the trump administration identified china as the long-term strategic threat to the security of the american people and not only that, we needed to have a comprehensive plan to do something about it and i think that is the major foreign policy national security shift that this administration took on and i absolute believe that it's right on the mark. maria: this is really an important point that you're making. the chinese communist party has gotten behind joe biden, the chinese communist party refuses to admit that they've been stealing intellectual property for years, decades and decades. has been taking over various pieces of land, invading india, militarizing the south china sea, what kind of retaliation would you expect from china given this administration's real pushback to all of this behavior? jack: well, president xi has kind of told us what he intends to do, i mean, he's the most ambitious, most aggressive, most malign leader since malsotong and when he took over because he had a robust economy behind him and because he had a military that he knew had been modernized and could challenge the united states in the western pacific, he began an incredible degree of aggression and ambition and -- and i think began to achieve a number of significant results and you've noted them on the show in terms of militarizing the south china sea, the aggression, intimidation, coercion of allies in the region and people began to pull back because of thatment the previous administration never took them on. it was about appeasement and tolerance and then president trump began to pushback. initially on economic aggression but also now much more comprehensively and building a grand coalition of our partners and allies to work together and because we are like-minded. these are democratic countries. european, people in southeast asia, in the region, who do not see the chinese communist party as the future for -- and the future as a global leader, they want -- they want democratic countries negotiations with united states and israel, there are two that come to mine, one is bahrain and the other oman. the countries that would fall in place. not surprising, the kingdom of saudi arabia will not be ones that come into play because the king was palestinian solution and i think the crown prince who does want to have a deal with israel, it will not take place while the king is alive. maria: all right, let's talk about the night, matt schlapp, your reaction a lot of real people in last night's events. >> yeah, i have to say the republican party has an easier job, maria, because first of all, their speakers love america, proud of founders of the country and the whole idea of america, the second thing is we are excited about our nominee. it wasn't about attacking the other guy, it was about talking about our pride in what the president has done and the third thing is after four years after what the president has done, it's easy to forget a lot of it and they are going through all of the accomplishments. joe biden doesn't have those accomplishments and a lot of us don't have fond memories of the obama years so we have easier job to do and they ended up doing it. dagen: the brought to my attention, the poll with cbs that found ten percentage lead for donald trump among independents and based on early dial testing that independents are tracking the way that republicans feel and it's possible and i'm raising the issue that people we call independents are really just hidden republican voters. again, shamed into being quiet, shamed into not calling themselves you up. >> thanks, dude, 90% of people who describe themselves as independent, they vote along predictable lines. doesn't men republican lines. the poll is a surprise to me because previously from what i've listen looking at the -- independents have been leading towards biden in this election and i thought that was a bellwether. that's some rare green shoots for the president in this election as a total block it's not that independents are more republican, but they are more of a bellwether of where donald trump won, watch the numbers for sure over the next couple of months. maria: yeah, i mean, it's the point that i was making about my neighbor when asked, what your neighbor would do. people are afraid to actually say i support donald trump and so whether it's the poll that dagen raises or the one about the neighbor, that's the whole point. they don't -- you know, this canceled culture, they'll get attacked if they say that they were to vote for him. >> well, donald trump, jr. last night used an interesting phrased which was silenced majority. the question for me and it's an open question for someone who hates what we see on the left and to a different extent on the right right now, the question is how much is that affecting americans in the workplace, last couple of months i heard from a lot of people who say yes, we are having to sit through, you know, sessions and >> well, i think we're seeing a little bit better breadth than we have in the past. overall it's still the five stocks that dominate the headlines. we're getting an awful lot of new investors coming into the market, you see what's going on at robin hood, the number of accounts that are open, specifically the kind of stocks they're buying. when you're thinking about apple and tesla, they're really driving the market, really pushing the markets much higher than really they should be. i think in the short run we've got to be a little careful here. i think they've gotten over their skis. maria: you want to sell into some rallies, dominic? >> we've been trimming back. we did our first sale of equity this week, lowered our equity exposure by 5%. i'm not predicting a major correction. 1% of the stocks in the s&p 500 represent 25% of the overall weighting and every day the phone rings, should we be buying apple now or should we buy it after the split. it's just crazy, maria. you have to look at where the value of the market is. look at the mid-cap sector of the s&p 500, still negative about 6% for the year and the small cap sector of the s&p still negative an average of 11% for the year. there's value there. it's time to start rotating your portfolio. sell a little bit of your winners and start accumulating some of the things that have not done as well. maria: all right. next up, the storm threat for the gulf of mexico, we are watching these storms today, oil and gasoline surging to five month highs this week, around 82% of oil production suspended by midday yesterday in the gulf of mexico. tropical storm laura expected to strengthen to a major hurricane so we could have even more impact. phil, how do you see things in the oil of markets given what we're seeing in the weather? >> i think this is the most significant challenge we've seen from these storms in many, many years because it isn't just one, maria, it's two. first we have to shut down production for tropical depression now marco and now a possible cat 4 which means production in the gulf is going to be closed down more than in recent memory. the bigger concern i have right now is for gasoline prices. we have over a million barrels a day of refining capacity shut in because of these storms and the track of the storm is going right over refinery row. there's a possibility that the refiners could be down for a period of time. that means higher gasoline prices and we're already seeing it reflected in the um p already -- pump already. it's amazing how quickly the prices go up when prices start to get tight. maria: the blue chip swapping of out three components, apple's four for one stock split will reduce the benchmark expo of sure to the information technology sector. this all happens on august 31st, sean. we've got these stocks moving up this morning as a result. because we know that when you're in the dow 30, it allows more -- those money managers that track the dow 30 will now be buying those stocks in the dow 30 of so it's much more buying power which is setting the stocks up. >> yeah. and so the effect of this is kind of a couple of things. there's more money that tracks the s&p 500 because it's a little bit broader but apple reducing its exposure because of the split or dow reducing apple's exposure because of their stock split will lower the weight and so what will likely -- what we'll likely see is a little more of the disconnect between the dow and s&p 500 or the cothe dow and the nasdaq 10. it will lower the pe ratio which people are worried about. apple is trading at 40 timessers earnings. that will have a minor effect of lowering overall pes which may make people a little more comfortable. for the markets to keep going forward from here, really we need two things to happen. we need to have the continued improvement and the pace of opening up the economy and then the second thing we need is the other 495 stocks in the s&p 500 and the other 95 stocks in the, say, the nasdaq 100 to start picking up. you know, i was talking to a colleague yesterday and he said would you rather buy apple or american airlines here. i own apple personally and i'm thinking maybe i might actually put a little american airlines in my portfolio because if you think about american airlines and you think let's say a two-year time horizon, there's probably more upside in a name like american airlines than there is a name like apple if we are able to open up the economy and if air travelers feel more comfortable about getting on the plane. it's a really interesting time. so -- i'm sorry. maria: , phil, dominic, sean, great to have you this morning. thank you so much, gentlemen. coming up, house judiciary committee member jim jordan on the first night of the republican national convention. former u.s. ambassador to the un nikki haley is here, talking about the trump foreign policy agenda. in the 8:00 a.m. hour, former advisor to donald trump, carter page is here on the latest fallout from the russia investigation, along with jim messina joining us with his take on the first night of the rnc. jerry seinfeld hitting back, the comedian defending new york city. you are watching "mornings with maria" live on fox business. stay with us. y for what you need. i wish i could shake your hand. granted. only pay for what you need. ♪ liberty. liberty. liberty. liberty. ♪ now every bath fitter bathbath fis installed quickly, safely, and beautifully, with a lifetime warranty. go from old to new. from worn to wow. the beautiful bath you've always wanted, done right, installed by one expert technician, all in one day. we've been creating moments like these for 35 years, and we're here to help you get started. book your free virtual or in-home design consultation today. find a stock basedtech. on your interests or what's trending. get real-time insights in your customized view of the market. it's smarter trading technology for smarter trading decisions. fidelity. maria: welcome back. not until 2021, that is when new york city mayor bill de blasio predicts indoor dining will return to the big apple, it is a critical time for new york restaurants as the warm days are numbered for outdoor dining. a recent wall street journal article highlighting new thinking that covid lockdowns were overly blunt and costly. this is important, dagen, because you are talking about industries that will not come back. i spoke to a restaurant guy just yesterday and he said maria, so many restaurants have closed down. they can't make it. they're not going to make it unless indoor dining comes back. your take? jon: well, i mean, new york has an especially big problem when it comes to restaurants because rents are s so high and taxes ae so high, you have to pack people closely together in new york restaurants to cover all your costs and that becomes a health hazard in a coronavirus era. so it's a big problem. you you know, i think that we've learned as a country that we need to find some alternative to the very tight grip shutdowns that we did back in march and april. you know, one of the obvious alwayalternatives that seems tok is wearing masks. i think that's the kind of compromise the whole country needs to be making right now, especially in cities to try to get business going again without suffering the consequences of such a big shutdown. maria: yeah. for sure. well, we'll see how this plays out of. go ahead, dagen. dagen: no covid cases in the u.s. fall to the lowest level in more than two months and i would credit mask wearing. rural virginia they hand out masks at the grocery store now. i yelled at somebody who refused to put a mask on. i yelled him out of the store into the parking lot, i was so angry. i said don't come in here, make people sick if you don't want to wear a mask. maria: it makes people feel better. what we need it confidence, people need confidence to go back to restaurants. if it's masks, it's masks. if it's social distancings, that's what it is. you need confidence. dagen: right. maria: we will -- matt, you didn't hear me, i guess. matt schlapp, we'll get back to you in a minute. mike: i have a lot of opinions to share with you. maria: he's staring at me blank face. i'm like hello, matt. mike:.>> what's going on here? morning, maria. thanks for having me. maria: you have such a great story in terms of building your business. i want to get to that. but first, tell me how things are going in terms of farming, how is business, the fresh vegetable, fruit juice market could be really more than an $8 billion business in the u.s. over the next few years. is that right? >> it is. it is. you know, the restaurant industry, as you know, has taken quite a hit and the fresh produce industry we're actually losing about a billion dollars every single week in our industry. there are about 250,000 fresh produce farms across the country and those farms are really struggling right now. we need to get things, you know, back open. maria: what do farmers need right now, sarah? >> you know, farmers really -- they need their markets to open back up, they need that restaurant business to come back. i know from our own personal experience, we farm fresh fruits and vegetables in seven different states. fortunately for fry farms, most of our business was heavily weighted grocery retail. so companies like walmart, kroger, publix, those stores and those retailers are doing fantastic. but on the beverage side of our business, you know, we do business with great american companies like subway that provide fresh, very affordable food and so we've seen our beverage sales really decline since march. and they're starting to come back and, you know, we're really rooting for the franchisees of those stores to get back up and running. but we just need things to open back up. maria: and you juice sometimes the imperfect fruit that would otherwise be wasted, right? tell me about your beverage business. >> we do. we do. so frida fry farms is best knows the nation's largest pumpkin farm but which actually sell more watermelons than we do pumpkins, although it's kind of a pumpkiny time of the year right now. we started out making watermelon juice on the farm. we would take imperfect melons, juice them on the farm and bottle that juice. sama is the mother of all watermelons. that's why we named our juice sama. maria: you sell more pumpkins than any other producer in the country right now. do you expect any change in demand this year? and what about the government's aid? was that a big game-changer for the farmers? >> it wasn't necessarily helpful to us in our business, although some of the commodities that we grow are going to get a little bit of help here. i think watermelons just made the list. but we shipped thousands of loads of fresh fruits and vegetables beginning in march, i think we shipped like in q2 we shipped nearly 2,000 semi loads of fresh watermelon off our farm in florida and we kept going through covid. obviously with worker safety being front and center and obviously the most important thing in our business and being able to continue. and we had to make a decision very early on when we were deciding how many acres of pumpkins to plant here in the midwest and one of the things that we had to take into consideration was are people still going to want to buy a pumpkin this year. should we plant as many? we leaned in and we actually planted more pumpkins than we ever have in the past because i think pumpkins are a low ticket item that bring joy and happiness into people's homes and, you know, pumpkins make people happy so i think we can all use a little bit more of that now. maria: you're right. you wrote a great memoir, the growing season, how i built a you new life and saved an american farm. real quick, on building a new life, sarah. how did you do that? >> you know, maria, if you've had an opportunity to read the book, it's really in my life i have the same philosophy that i have in business and that's how do you look through life's imperfections and how do you look at challenges and overcome those challenges, how do you look for the good and find the greater purpose. it's no different than what we do with the ugly fruit and the fresh produce industry, when we take that fruit that might be visually imperfect and we turn it into delicious beverages or healthy ingredients. we find that fruit's greater purpose. and in the book, the growing season, that's -- you know, it's a memoir so it's some very personal stories in the book about my life but the overall essence of the book is looking through the imperfections to find the good. maria: order, ensuring that the economy comes back versus what you're seeing on the other side. is that what you're goal was. >> i think that was part of it. i think really what came through last night, the president said this sunday night on your network, he talked about the amazing potential of the american people and i think that was the theme last night. you think about nikki haley's story, you think about senator scott's story, his humble beginnings, now a united states senator, you think about herschel walker's life, think about the frontline healthcare workers, frontline first responders that the president talked to at the white house, the hostages he met with, the amazing potential of the american people and the positive feel we got last night. i meant what i said in my speech that the republican party is the pro america party, the institutions, the values, the principles that make our country great. that's what we need to defend. this president is doing that. that's why i think he's going to get reelected. maria: at the same time, the speaker of the house, nancy pelosi, called the president as well as the republicans in congress yesterday, domestic enemies, enemies of the state. did you see that? >> yeah, that -- i mean, she has said a number of things that just make no sense that are just flat-out wrong. this president is -- i think he's that rare individual who comes to this town and actually does what he told the american people he was going to do, that's what the american people so appreciate about him and i had that list of things we talked about. take one example. take putting the embassy in jerusalem. for as long as i can remember, every single presidential candidate in both parties say if you elect me i will put the embassy in jerusalem then they get elected and come up with a million reasons, the swamp gives them tons of reasons why they can't do it. this president did it. and the response -- and it worked out fine. but the speaker of the house criticizes the president for doing what he told the american people, that that's how frustrated, that's how -- the democrats have been out to get this president as you know, maria, since before he was even elected with the whole trump, russia investigation. so that's nothing new from her. it is so wrong. i think the american people see through it and like i said, i think they're going to elect president trump as the next president. maria: you went through it, first the russia collusion hoax and then the mueller investigation, the impeachment, you called it the fake impeachment. you're right. they have been out to get him and take him down from day one. now there's a postal service controversy, congressman. walk us through this. post of master general louis dejoy defending his management of the u.s. postal service to the house yesterday amid concerns that cost cutting measures are jeopardizing the agency's ability to serve americans going into a presidential election. what's at stake here? >> what the democrats are trying to do, it's not me saying this, it's the wall street journal, the latest conspiracy theory from the democrats. there's $14 billion cash on hand, a $10 billion line of credit, what he's doing on collection boxes and sorting machines is nothing new. he's doing nothing new. the democrats want to create chaos and confusion because they want to count ballots after election day. that's what this is about. you saw what happened in new york. one congressional primary, actually the chairwoman of the committee, the sponsor of the democrats' bill, caroline malone, her election was june 23rd. she wasn't declared the winner until six weeks later. new jersey primary, took four weeks to count the ballots after the election date. iowa democrat caucuses, i don't know if we still know who won the democrat caucus for the presidential race. so the democrats want this chaos and confusion because i believe, and i'm convinced they know president trump is going to win on election day but they want to keep counting ballots after election day. so that's what this is really about. they want to send out as many live ballots, mail out as many live ballots as they can around this country and then be counting after the election night, after election night's over. that's what this is about. we need to call it for what it is. and -- but they're attacking the post office for those reasons and that's what's scary to me. that's why they're getting so fired up. but again, in spite of all that, the president's going to win. i can just -- you can see it in ohio. he won big in ohio. i think it's going to be even bigger this time. maria: so you don't buy the polls then? because in the polls he's been lagging. >> you can feel it in our state. you see the american flags and trump signs all over the place, i was in junctiontown, across -- youngstown, across the state. used to be you couldn't find republicans in the youngstown area. 350 people at this republican event. you feel the energy building. i think last night was a great kickoff in our convention. i feel that in ohio. i feel very good about our state. the president's out and about. joe biden won't leave his home. the president was in wisconsin, minnesota, north carolina in the last few days. he's out and about, talking to the american people he cares so much about. maria: what are you going to do? look, most people do not want a socialist agenda, most people do not want to see $4 trillion in tax increases. you've got the right idea in terms of policy. but what are you going to do to stop cheating if there is cheating in terms of mail-in voting, what about big tech? congressional lawmakers investigating anti-republican speech, anti-conservative bias at big tech, turning to amazon as well, congressman. what about the potential for cheating, whether it's big tech or whether it's mail-in voting? what are you going to do? >> you draw attention to it. that's all we can do at this point. that's what we did yesterday on the hearing on the postal service. you draw attention to it, every single time big tech is censoring conservatives, you draw attention to it so american people understand what's going on. we have to look at legislative solutions. we can't do that with jerry nadler running the judiciary committee. we need to win back the house to accomplish some of those things. when they censor the president, at the same time twitter will allow a statement from the leader of iran, where he actually threatens the safety of american citizens, that's how policies have had on them. is this going to be the theme for the rest of the week? do you feel that it resonated last night? >> well, i think that this week is about truth. i think this week is about facts. what we saw last week was the sky is falling, the world is coming to an end and this week is a reminder of all of the things president trump has done in the last three and-a-half, four years and the progress that can be built on that. you heard from fantastic people, whether it's andrew pollak or tim scott, whether it was the cuban dissident, herschel walker, all of these people know the president, know what it's like to interact with him but have felt what it means to really watch his policies take effect and you, you know, the country is continuing to move in a good direction. we've got to continue with president trump and vice president pence to make that keep going. maria: well, you talked about your parents, you talked about being born from indian parents and i thought it was so real and sincere, the way you spoke about that. let me ask you about your own plans. because a lot of people look at you and they say, well, we wanted her to be the vice president candidate. we no tha -- we know that it ise pence. but would you accept a job in the administration if the president does get a second term? >> well, that's nothing that i've talked to the president about. right now we want to see the president and vice president pence get over the finish line in november. i think that's what's most important. but certainly any chance there is to serve our country, i want to do. all that nonsense about me and pence, he's a dear friend, he's done a great job. he's been loyal to the president and the american people should be very proud. so, no, i think we have to get them over the finish line and whatever those two need from me or from anyone else, we want to continue our country moving in the right direction. maria: you also spoke out about the potential economic ramifications of a biden presidency. let's' take a listen. >> last time joe's boss was obama. this time, it would be pelosi, sanders and the squad. their vision for america is socialism. joe biden and the socialist left would be a disaster for our economy. maria: so governor, we know that a lot of the policies that we're hearing out of aoc and elizabeth warren are bordering on socialism. you're right. but when joe biden speaks, he tries to tell people that he's a moderate. in fact, the mainstream media is talking about the party as if it's a moderate. kamala harris as well. so tell us why you believe that it is in fact a disaster and it is socialism, because that's not what he says when asked the question. >> well, first of all, joe biden may have been a moderate a few decades ago. but i mean, you can't go and increase taxes on 82% of the americans when we're coming out of a covid situation and say you're a moderate. you can't ask for all of those mandates based on aoc's green new deal and say you're a moderate. you can't allow any conversation about socialism ever taking hold in america and claim to be a moderate. the truth is biden is going to be whoever bernie sanders, elizabeth warren and aoc tell him to be. you watch him how he's flip-flopping on the issues. he's taking a more progressive stance. he's not taking a more moderate stance. our economy can't afford it. foreign policy. we talked about the economic successes that president trump has had. there are foreign policy successes to speak of as well, just recently we had this peace deal between the united arab emirates and israel and of course this is the president who poked back at china. what do you believe, having spent all that time at the u.n., to be the biggest threat and how to deal with it from a foreign policy agenda standpoint? >> well, i've got to tell you that one of the biggest surprises when i got to the united nations was literally how the obama, biden administration wanted to just buy their friends. they wanted to be nice with everyone so that everyone would like us back and president trump changed that. he made sure that everyone knew what we were for and what we were against. our biggest threat hands down is china but you have to also look at the fact that when we're luking at an iran deal and there's a question about whether they're going to extend the arms embargo you've got a real problem because this is the number one sponsor of terrorism. we need a strong president. we need someone strong on foreign policy and we need countries to know. maria: i want to ask you into hillary clinton campaign, but instead of doing a fisa warrant spying on that campaign staffer like to you, and to donald trump, they told hillary clinton first she fired the person, and then they opened up four counterintelligence investigations into the trump campaign, you being one of them, carter i know you go through in it the book tell us what happened to you. >> well, to spa specific point you were just making maria, there are some -- kink ambassador haley said it best, this week is about truth, i think if you look back over the last four years, as i describe in the book last four years have been about lies, put out by mainstream media and democrats in conjunction with cell within u.s. intelligence community department of justice, to really do tremendous damage to president trump. so, my story talks through basically, i was a junior volunteer in march 2016 on the trump campaign. a couple of over the coming the following months there were a long series of stories put out by opposition research people, affiliated with democratic national committee and agents, over time eventually started to be a range of he reladies stories of prices u.s. intelligence community skeletaled with false allegations leading to series of stories about me being wiretapped my all of pie computers being hacked under a what is known as fisa warrant, so, eventually that is all sort of played out, and now along the lines of what you are saying about chairman graham now we are starting to see a completely new reality, as a lot of this begins to be uncovered your final point on ukraine, right now over last 4 hours or so i know john solomon has a big new report out on ukraine, some big investigations, so, i think, as you know, again as ambassador haley said, this week is about truth and i think the truth is long overdue. maria: so you were wiretapped for a year, over a year, and you found out that you were being wiretapped in the news? >> yeah, basically. i -- i actually -- this gentleman kevin clinesmith i was after having five long meetings with the fbi, in march of 2017, my lawyers were in touch with mr. clinesmith informed him of series of death threats i had been receiving, and, unfortunately, the following week is when in "the washington post", you know, front-page article there is a big story about a fisa washington, to spy on myself, as a way of infiltrateing the trump campaign by u.s. government which was just outrageous. >> unbelievable we point out that you were never charged with wrongdoing i want to ask your reaction to what former fbi director jim comey said this weekend on with regret brennan said not a target of ongoing durham probe doesn't think he is says used as a tool by president trump and supporters listen to this. >> i have to ask you justice department is investigating the investigations into 2016. do you know if you are a witness or a target or have you sat for interview with john durham as part of the investigation. >> yeah, i have no idea i have had no contact with him haven't talked to him. >> do you believe that that means you are a target? >> i can't imagine that i am a target i saw news report that john brennan was a witness, i have given what i know what happened in 2016 a bunch of people trying to do the right thing consistent with the law i am not worried at all about that investigation. of the investigation. next i am sure will be an investigation of the investigation of the investigation. they just want to have an investigation, to talk about. maria: just mind-boggling carter page your reaction to that. >> well, two aspects to it maria first of all, on the not a target point, my lawyers again were in conversations with kevin china smith mr. china smith told them you are just a witness at this stage meanwhile he is submitting in conjunction with, mr. comey a number of o er people fake fisa warrants to u.s. district court in washington. the other aspect of what he was saying about mr. brennan, you know this is a -- an operative within u.s. intelligence community having meetings with then-senator read leading minority leader in the senate, talking about the same dossier allegations sends a letter to come cia again a lot more needs to come out right now, i think the story is just beginning. of. maria: well really interesting, because you keep mentioning kevin clinesmith he has in last couple days pled guilty, to altering a document, to say that you in fact if a were not working with another agency being cia, because they said that while you knew all russians you were hanging out with russians you must be a russian agent hanging out with russians because you were working for cia he said changed document saying that you were not working for the cia. jim comey just said he knows what went on in 2016 now we do too. we know exactly what went on, given the fact that he was told by the subsource, that the dossier was hearsay made up in a bar yet represent renewing a warrant to spy on you to get that window into the trump campaign. >> yeah, unfortunately, no one in that interview asked him about the as u.s. department of justice inspector general pointing out 17 series errors omissions in fisa warrants which he started. he signed the most of them, three out of out of the four. so there is a lot more open questions that need to be what is frustrating, maria is as you see the national mainstream media highlighting governor cuomoo they've not held him accountable for this abject failure that is tragic people still mourning the losses of loved ones, governor cuomo needs to spend more time talking to new yorkers that he represents, rather than focusing on his book that he just announced. maria: that is the thing, i don't >> a. >> well maria, first off thanks for having me on the show, second, right now, there is a major problem. tax revenues going down, deficits going up, something like a third or more of restaurants and small businesses might already be permanently closed in new york city, apartment vacancies all-time high going to get higher, one in four residents have not been paying rent since march who knows how many more vacancies there will be, and, the city is already even said the deficits are so high they have to start laying off critical employees like emps frontline workers teachers police garbage collectors mta workers a serious problem. you can't run city with revenue going down deficits going up all the citizens leaving. and, i haven't left permanently coming back i have kids in school in the city i want the city to recover but i don't see how physically happens every business closing many citizens are leaving. will the. maria: -- the comedian slamming you in "new york times" writing you say new york will not bounce back this time. you will not bounce back, in your -- he innovated new life in florida i hope you have a long healthy run down there i can't that i have more fiting retribution for fine article stupid advisors will give up eventually same way you have we have to keep going with new york city if that is all right with you sure will as how sure it will sure as hell come back, you are out with new opened with your response what do you make of jerry seinfeld pushing back at you -- >> i mean i clearly -- he is you know loves the city concerned about criticism i don't know why has to are personally attack me i live in new york city as a permanent resident and i want it to do well but facts are the facts, again apartment vacations are all-time high, not temporary high, people have left permanently, people are moving companies, getting they can't respond to all calls, bllgs office buildings empty many companies going remote permanently that means, the climb in taxes restaurant closings means declining tourism means declining revenues for the city deficits again, are going through the roof, because of the virus understandably, so again i don't know why seinfeld had to be permanent in attack like doesn't know me at all but instead i am focused what on could solutions be let's look at the facts of what the problems are. the city is going in the direction of bankruptcy, they have already announced august 31 going to turn out 22,000 pink slips for critical workers, police, mta, emt people front line on virus about to fire. and i don't know why jerry is not more focused on that, instead arbitrary personal attack i have a lot of respect tor careery seinfeld. dagen: it is dagen mcdowell i've been in new york city every day during virus unrest during looting coming into work, every day. and i am angry, i am angry because, of the feckless leadership here in the city, a mayor really doesn't seem to give a flying damn about anybody but himself, and then also just general cost of being here. but i will say this. if you lower the cost of living here you get rid of the mayor, and some of the bureaucrats run city into ground quick comeback for new york. >> a good point you continue lower cost of living quickly what is going to happen first is all at the owners of all buildings are go bankrupt once 10,000 restaurants go out of business no restaurant is goings to immediately replace tenants land lords owners are going bankrupt the restaurants, owners going bankrupt. dagen: it is going to be a great washout. and a lot of ways, but we don't you know we are not -- we are not in favor of chaos nostalgia as kyle submitting wrote we want days of cheaper new york where we could go out do things i think jerry sign fellow has been in hamptons whole time i don't know what he is talking about. just saying. thank you so much. we'll be right back. businesses are starting to bounce back. but what if you could do better than that? like adapt. discover. deliver. in new ways. to new customers. what if you could come back stronger? faster. better. at comcast business, we want to help you not just bounce back. but bounce forward. that's why we're helping you stay ahead and adapt with a network you can count on, 24/7 support and flexible solutions that work wherever you are. call or go online today. >> welcome back talking about new york city, dagen mcdowell that was pretty compelling look i mention earlier the restaurant industry i agree. it seems if restaurants can't get indoor dining they can't get their business back they live by cash flow they will be out of business. they are not coming back. dagen: right new york city will be more waste landed than it already is i want to point out i don't know if seinfeld has been in hamptons i know he has like very fancy digs out there how far time has mr. seinfeld how much time do they actually spend in noshes during virus during looting during unrest number one, number two this actually goes to something jon hilsenrath was talking about you have a great repricing of rent of real estate new york city needs to get a lot cheaper, and soon to offset everything that people have to deal with. and that goes to john's point rents northeast to be lower if a restaurant is going to operate at third capacity. right jon? >> hmm. . >> absolutely. and we could point to the tax burdens enough cities they have a lot of services that they provide. you know, just pulling the lens back i think this whole debate that we're having nationally about cities i think everybody needs to be reminded, that american cities have been a hugely important engine of economic growth, are for this whole country, over the last 20 years, this have produced more jobs than the rest of the country more output, we should be cheering for cities, and frankly i think he, the whole debate about cities has gotten a a little bit too polarized we need them toe to come back and be engine for shooting there at, people are not going to bring their families back to area where they are afraid for their safety. i don't think anybody is arguing that we don't want cities to come back. we want cities to come back. but will we go back when crime is where it is. taxes are one thing but safety is much more important, i think for much people. we will take a break and come back with that. more "mornings with maria" on fox business right after this. >> thank you so much for joining me this morning, great show, dagen mcdowell, have a great day, stuart varney is next, take it away with "varney & company". stuart: thank you very much indeed and good morning to you. good morning, everyone. you are watching financial history, and extraordinary five-month stock market rally and a series of record highs for the s&p and the nasdaq, the dow is back above 28000, that is 10000-point higher than marc march 23, a trillion dollar valuation for several tech companies, 2 trillion for apple. the market is looking at the other side of the virus. new cas
