He said Foreign Governments can be printing ballots and we will not they could print thousands and thousands of ballots and we will not even though what the real thing and whats just fake from Foreign Governments trying to med until our election, where do we stand in on mailin ballots on a federal level going into the election. Im afraid its gavin newsom and the democrats that are going to be printing those fake ballots, theyre not cleaning up the voter roles, they intend to send those 5 million excess unasked for, many of the people have never voted. They just registered through motor voter, they intend to send them up but they are doing worse than that. They just passed a bill on the governors desk that actually allows for voting for 17 days after the election. 30 days before nearly 30 days before the election you can begin voting but theyre allowing for 17 days afterwards to find out how many votes are needed and go get them. Maria that is unbelievable. Can the administration do anything about this . Congressman theres a question those 17 days will create invalidity. Prior to this time you had to be postmarked by the election. You could receive afterwards but you had to have outside Government Agency but with voter harvesting in california basically union thugs will go and get these things, maybe for weeks after the election and questionably where they get them from because theyre going to be mailed to dorm rooms where the students arent there, you know, theres going to be several million ballots just sitting around waiting to be filled out. Maria thats unbelievable. We will keep watching. This is such an important subject going into the election but i want to turn to the other election meddling that we are talking about this morning and that is the russia probe. During my interview with ag barri asked him about accountable for elected officials. You were there as an oversight chairman, listen to this. Adam schiff is an elected official, chairman of the intel committee. When these guys speak you stop and listen. Adam schiff said multiple times that there was collusion in plain sight. Is it no accountability for an elected official, someone that the public obviously trusts just by their resume to say one thing in a closeddoor situation when you are under oath like so many in the Obama Administration said theres no evidence of collusion by they went out on television and they said the complete opposite. They said collusion is in plain sight, thats a quote from adam schiff. Well, as far as Public Comments like that these people have been making and press conferences and on television and so forth, you know, the accountability is really elections for schiff, thats why we have elections. If people us district want him to continue to behave as he has, they can send him back to office. Maria some of the top stories this morning, major unrest in our Nations Capital as protesters attempt to create what they are calling a black house autonomous zone outside of the white house. Fencing and large garbage cans are used to build the barrier. The zones letters seen spray painted on st. Jon jons churc. Protesters clashed with police. [crowd noise] maria rioters met with police as they tried to take down the Andrew Jackson statue in Lafayette Park. President trump promising there will be consequences. Were going to do an executive order and were going to make the cities guard their monuments. This is a disgrace. Maria the president just tweeted that it will be a ten year felony if anything is destroyed from here on out. He did an executive order. The secret service says four members of the media were asked to leave the white house yesterday for their own safety amid the demonstrations. The city of seattle moving to end the policefree capitol hill organized protest or chop zone after a man was shot and killed over the weekend. The zone was embraced by the mayor earlier this month. Durkin said it could bring on a, quote, summer of love. She is changing her tune right now. She says seattle will try to scale the chop zone back and let Police Return to the east precinct. We believe individuals, organizations and others can continue to gather on capitol hill peacefully, the continued disorder, the violence and the impacts on residents and businesses are not just at odds with the message of justice and equity, they cannot continue to occur. Maria i spoke to attorney general bill barr about the seattle autonomous zone on sunday morning futures. So will you challenge that autonomous city . Will you sue the mayor . What can you do . Well, i dont want to get into specifics. Were obviously keeping an eye on it and as the president said in due course we may have to do something about it but we cant let it go on indefinitely. Maria residents near the chop zone criticized the city for waiting until the deadly shootings to break up the protests. In new york city gun violence is skyrocketing across new york city. Police are warning this could be the new normal. The first three weeks of june seeing 125 shooting incidents with 53 of those coming last week alone. Its been nearly eight years since the city recorded that many shootings in one week. The troubling trend coming on the heels of the nypd commissioner decision to disband the citys anticrime plain clothes unit after a number of complaints against its members. President trump signing an executive order expanding current immigration restrictions on certain visas, they include the h1b and h2b visas related to guest worker programs as well as others related to education exchanges and executive transfers. The Administration Says this will safeguard jobs for unemployed americans. The move drawing criticism from some Companies Like twitter. Lindsey graham tweeted he fears the decision to shut down the programs will create a drag on our economic recovery. The restrictions which take Effect Tomorrow will not apply to visa holders already in the country. Today, President Trump is headed to arizona to mark the 200th mile of the border wall. The president will reportedly be briefed on construction of the wall, then meet with local leaders on Border Security. He will head to phoenix where he will speak to the students for trump convention. Meanwhile, apple makes it official announcing a major change for its mac computer. The company will use its own chip instead of intel chips, ending a 15 Year Partnership with intel. Apples ceo tim cook discussed the move during the Worldwide Developers Conference Held virtually for the first time. The first macs with apple silicon chips will be shipped by the end of the year. They will use Intel Technology to power servers for the Cloud Computing services. Apple shares are up one andahalf percent. Mailin ballot fraud, President Trump expressing concern the 2020 election could be, quoting rigged if widespread use of mailin ballots is allowed. During my interview with ag barr this weekend he spoke about the potential dangers of mailin ballots. Theres a big discussion right now about mailin voting. Hillary clinton said its fine, its fair. Well, it absolutely opens the floodgates to fraud. They are delivered to mailboxes. They can be taken out. Theres questions about whether or not it denies a secret ballot. A lot of states have you signing the outside of the envelope so people will know how people voted. Right now a foreign country could print up tens of thousands of counterfeit ballots and it would be very hard for us to detect, which was the right and which was the wrong ballot. I think it can upset and undercut the confidence in the integrity of our elections. If anything, we should tighten them up right now. Maria joining me right now is california congressman, House Armed Services Committee Member, Jon Garamendi and Committee Member and retired lieutenant colonel, michael walz. Thank you for joining us. Good to be with you. Maria congressman ga, whats r reaction to mailin voting. Its just wrong. Weve had mailin voting in states for years and very little if any fraud at all. It works very, very well. Theres been no problem, no fraud in certainly in california, certainly not in oregon. So i think hes wrong. Maria congressman walz in. I think were talking past each other on this issue somewhat, maria. Florida has mailin, as do many other states, mailin voting as well. The issue is when were seeing states talking about mass ballot mailings to people that havent requested them, to potentially people that havent even registered, to voter roles that havent been fully reconciled. There are a number of cases, numerous cases of voter fraud. Its a slippery slope. We just had one just last month in new jersey where nearly 20 of the ballots were invalidated for ballot stuffing, for not having the appropriate signatures, for not matching voter rolls. There are studies showing texas had over 27 accounts. There have been boxes of ballots found in nevada where they had mass mailings. So it is a slippery slope if not controlled properly and not done properly. I think thats what the president and the attorney general are concerned about and they are rightly concerned and this is being done under the guise of corona. My position is, if we can safely stand in line to go to the Grocery Store, if we can safely and civilly protest, then i think we can safely stand in line to vote as weve been doing the last several elections and in needs to be a healthy mix and there needs to be a healthy series of protocols in place to make sure this is done properly. Youre absolutely correct about the series of protocols and also do keep in mind that standing in lines that wrap around three or four city blocks is not appropriate. So voting in person should be part of the process as well as voting by mail and the protocols do have to be in place. The issues that you cite are the issues of the protection. Yes, there are problems that occasionally occur but the ability to check and crosscheck the voter rolls and signatures, so forth, those all work. But we also must keep in place that people must have the opportunity to vote in person and that requires that the counties and cities and states provide sufficient voting places so that people dont have to stand in line for hours upon hours. Maria well, you heard what darryl issa said earlier, where basically there are areas where youre allowing voting 17 days after the election. What is that about . Why would you allow voting 17 days after an election . I dont think that occur anywhere. Those ballots have to be postmarked the day of the election and in most cases they have to and so they cannot be 17 days. I think hes referring to counting. It does take extra days to count the mailin ballots because they cant be postmarked on the day of the election. And so that is obviously a concern. I know in california our elections are not over for several days. In fact, a cup can hell of them a couple of them even a month after the election as ballots arrive. Also ballots arrive from overseas. The u. S. Military has been voting by mail for years and those ballots always arrive late. Maria thats interesting you say overseas. Thats another issue. Go ahead. Well, i was going to say, the other concern in addition to the 17 days after the election is that anyone can go collect those ballots in unlimited numbers of ballots. Maria that thats ridiculou. In california and other states. You can have an activist go into certain targeted neighborhoods where people they know havent hvoted or voted a certain way ad then collect as many ballots as they need after an election and turn them in. They know the target and can gwynn the election after the fact so its the slippery slope that comes with additional laws being added onto the vote by mail that is really concerning. We can wake up to sounds in the night. But lets be very clear here, that we have had vote by mail for years and years and these problems simply do not exist. Yes, we do count the ballots late after the election. Maria he just named he actually just named times when it did exist in new jersey. That was just last month. That was just last month, maria. This wasnt from years ago. This was from may of 2020 in patterson, new jersey. In california, you know we had six republican seats that won on Election Night but yet days later those leads tended to be eroded to the point that they didnt that they then lost. So i think there are real issues and real concerns that we are all focused on keeping the integrity of the election. We certainly should do that. But lets be very clear. Those were legitimate ballots that were counted after the Election Night and we know from even there are ballots that are legitimately cast at polls that are often late in arriving for counting at the county or city. But your point is correct, we must have a legitimate election. Vote by mail or vote by person, either way it has to be done legitimately. Maria we all want a legitimate election. The move is expanding their collaboration in development of of inoculation against covid19. Last hour reuters reported sanofi expects to get approval for the potential Coronavirus Vaccine by the first half of next year. Now we are seeing the acquisition of the stake in trans genomic inc. The stock is up 70 right now. Chinese influence on Higher Education continues to be an issue. The new investigation finds 1 billion in anonymous foreign funds among institutions nationwide, even a school with direct contracts with the Chinese Communist party. The department of education says the money is from china, russia, qatar and saudi arabia. The education secretary says the findings should lead to more transparency in reporting foreign financial ties. I discussed the issue with senator tom cotton, the reconsidering of visas of Chinese Students studying in america. You believe we should not be giving visas to Chinese Students who want to study advanced sciences. They want to get into the Gilead Sciences and googles of the world to steal that research. Is that right . Maria, its a scandal to me that we have trained so many of the Chinese Communist partys brightest minds to go back to china, to compete for our jobs, to take our business and ultimately to steal our property and design weapons and other devices that can be used against the American People. So i think we need to take a very hard look at the visas that we give to chinese nationals to come to the United States to study, especially at the post graduate level in advanced scientific and technological fields. If Chinese Students want to come here and study shakespeare and the federalist papers, thats what they need to learn from america. They dont need to learn quantum computing and Artificial Intelligence from america. Jon hilsenrath i realize Technology Companies are upset about this. They want to have diverse workforces. But at the same time, how do you differentiate who is coming in here who are working for the communist party, stealing information, and getting a leg up and who is not, and who is coming in here to just study and expand and grow and build companies here . Thats the issue. Because ag barr on sunday said to me the chinese are stealing the future of our children and our grandchildren because the Chinese Communist party wants to be number one in all the Growth Industries that we want to be number one, like a. I. And quantum computing. Jon i think its a really complicated issue on a number of levels. First of all, a lot of american universities have been very big, important source of Economic Development in communities all over this country and they brought in foreign students and depended on that revenue stream. Higher education has been one of our biggest exports as a country for quite a number of years. You know, the other thing i would say is that bringing foreign students into the United States is a great way of spreading the american creed to people elsewhere in the world. I know you interviewed my colleague who wrote this book about u. S. China trade. This was my colleague who came here to study at new york university, became an american citizen, and its kind of bringing those brought those values back to china. Maria the communist party is not adopting those values. Jon, weve been waiting for the communist party to figure out that democracy works. Theyre not doing it. Look what theyre doing in hong kong right now. We can keep waiting for the 50 years that they promised hong kong to be autonomous. Theyre not following the democracy. Theyre more rigid than ever before, the ccp. Jon and the question is how do you weed out the bad ones. But without throwing out the golden egg. Maria thats right. All right. We are looking at a rally underway, the dow futures are up 250 points right now, the nasdaq is up 75 and s p up 26. Last night markets were down after comments by Peter Navarro on fox news, he said the u. S. China trade deal sparked a volatile session certainly, he said that the trade deal was over. With that comment, futures plummet 400 points before navarro walked it back and the president also tweeted about it that it is still in place. Joining me right now is fair leaf managing partner, katie stockton. Great to see you this morning. It takes me back, where every day we came in and there was another tidbit about the china deal and markets were moving on it. Are we going to go back to that . Obviously the relationship between the u. S. And china has changed. Well, theres definitely a real skittishness to the market right now. I see it as characteristic of a consolidation phase. You have this tug of war between buyers and sellers and what some of the indicators that we use are really designed to eliminate this kind of noise. We saw earlier this month a very subtle loss of shortterm momentum ahead of the big gap down ahea aof as p 500 index. Were seeing a heightened vol volatility and consolidation phase that reflects the loss of shortterm momentum. It will keep hold another few weeks as the market digests the rally it saw after the marlo and in the big scheme of things its probably going to be healthy. Maria i want to ask you about where we are in markets right now because i know that fang stocks, thats facebook, apple, netflix and google, showing some signs of exhaustion but theyve been the Leadership Groups here. We are now in the final few days of the First Quarter, First Quarter ends on tuesday of next week. What are you expecting in terms of markets given that this is the final full week of the quarter and tell us about the groups that you think are poised to go higher and lower including these fang stocks. Well, in the near term were seeing a little bit more of a defensive sector rotation, that means Consumer Staples are likely to do better, healthcare broadly doing better and believe it or not it does include the fang stocks. I would expand the fang stocks you mentioned to include amazon and even microsoft. Those names have been looked at as somewhat defensive, as safe haven in what has been an increasingly volatile tape. I dont think that changes. The relative strength is still behind those fang stocks and really Large Cap Technology in general. In absolute terms, you can see there are some signs of exhaustion, meaning that shortterm momentum has fallen off as a response to overbought conditions. I think well see a little consolidation but something that does allow the uptrends to persist beyond the near term. Maria and real quick on the final week of the quarter, katie, any activity expected from big Pension Funds or institution alibiers institutional buyers. Its a very difficult period in terms of market volumes. Like i said its very fick le. The market lacks a directional bias. That might temper the activity as we come into the end of the quarter. I dont think thats meaningful. I think with the start of a new quarter well get new buyers stepping in and perhaps that occurs after a deeper pullback and allows the s p 500 to release itself and finally get up to those new highs. This after a huge plunge overnight of 400 points after trade and Manufacturing Policy director Peter Navarro said the china deal was over. President trump and navarro quickly confirmed phase one trade deal is still on, walking back those comments, markets reversed course and traded up. In fact, yesterday markets were higher as well even as the cases of coronavirus spike in several states. The dow industrials yesterday up 153 points at the close, the nasdaq was up 110, the nasdaq in fact seeing its 20th record close in 2020. The s p 500 up 20 points. European markets are on the rise. U. S. Officials warning china they could see a relationship cut if theres no sign of opening the economy to European Countries. The fq100 up 81, cac up 80 and dax index up 321 right now. In asia overnight green across the board, japan is signaling it will keep to plans to gain a Budget Surplus by 2025, despite massive spending on the covid19 crisis. The nikkei average was up one half of 1 . Delta airlines set to resume flights between the u. S. And china this week. Cheryl casone with details there. Cheryl. Cheryl good morning again, maria. Thats right. The move is going to make delta the first u. S. Airline to restart operations to china after flights were suspended in february in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Starting thursday the airline will resume flights between seattle and shanghai. The flights will run twice a week this month and once a week starting in july from seattle and detroit as well. A little bit of expansion there. The stock is up more than 1 in the premarket. Remember, the u. S. And china agreed to ease travel restrictions last week allowing four weekly flights between the two countries. Well, softbank is unloading a may jar part of major part of the stake in tmobile, part of a plan to raise 41 billion to buy back shares and reduce debt. This comes as the softbank founder looks to strengthen the Balance Sheet following steep losses from investments that didnt work out so well. Tmobile is down three quarters of 1 in the premarket right now. Finally, heres a look at whats trending on foxbusiness. Com. Amazons prime day will likely be delayed because of the coronavirus. It will be moved to september to ease the strange on warehouse work hes who have had workers who have had to keep up with a lot more demand. American whiskey distillers lost more than 300 billion in export revenue over the past year. Baseball may be back, may be back, mlb ready to mandate a 60 game season after the Players Association rejected the latest offer. Meanwhile, facebook is taking content control a step too far now, the social media giant is forced to apologize after an attempt to allow businesses to censor words like unionize on its Office Management platform. The move immediately sparked controversy and backlash from the nations Largest Union group, the aflcio. It represents more than 12. 5 million workers. Facebook has halted further development of the future. Joining me now is the president of the aflcio, Richard Trumka. Richard, its great to see you this morning. Thanks very much for joining us. You are demanding a personal apology by Mark Zuckerberg to the working people. You know, exactly. Facebook holds itself out as this champion of free speech and yet here it is developing a platform that allows employers to totally deny their employees free speech and blacklists them which is illegal and sort of truncate or eliminate their ability to talk about unionization which is also illegal. So hes doing two things here that are terrible. One, hes doing illegal stuff like blacklisting and making eavesdropping on the employees talk about unionization, thats illegal. The second thing is hes undermining the notion of free speech because its only his free speech that hes been a champion of, not workers free speech. He deserves we should have an apology. We demand an apology. And they should abandon further work on these type of platforms. Maria well, i mean, then you have to agree with both republicans and democrats who have been pushing to change section 230 in the telecom act. We know there were proposals last week to scale back section 230 of which shields Internet Companies from lawsuits for content posted on their sites from third parties. It bottom line here, when the telecom law went into place in 1996, this section gave this protection to Technology Companies because they were supposed to be, quote, unquote, platforms. But what weve seen from this move in terms of eliminating the word unionize as well as shadow banning as well as taking down tweets and posts that they dont agree with, theyve taken a side and they do censor information. You agree with them, the proposal to reverse section 230 then . We think there needs to be a change to it, exactly. Because things like this shouldnt be allowed to happen. They acted here as more than a platform. They acted here as an employer advocate, an illegal employer advocate to stop free speech and to stop unionization. They shouldnt be shielded from that type of conduct or others similar to that. Maria its unbelievable theyre even attacking the unions. I want to talk about business with china, the Chinese Communist party having taken a lot of jobs over the years, threatening american strength. I spoke with Ag William Barr on sunday and he broke news with me over the weekend, telling me that exclusively that American Businesses are prioritizing profit over patriotism. Watch this, richard. Got to get your reaction. They havent been competing fairly and the president has confronted this when no one else has. And the American Business community has been a big part of the problem. Because theyre willing ultimately, many of them, to sacrifice the longterm viability of their companies for shortterm profit. So they can get their Stock Options and move into the gulf resort. Thats whats driving some of this. Theyre not taking the longterm view and the national view. The american maintaining the american strength. Maria i was talking with one money manager the other day and he said, look, maria,ism not going to call good guys and bad guys. Its not my role to call out good guys and bad guys. So yeah, the growth is in china and thats where i want to invest. Well, you know what . Were not speaking german today because the American Business in the past didnt think that way. They stood with the United States. And all the privileges and the benefits and the stability and the rule of law and the ability to profit as they do, both as companies and individuals, comes from the strength of this country. Maria your thoughts, Richard Trumka, on the idea that corporations are not looking at the Chinese Communist party as a National Security threat, wanting to grow their businesses in china, invest in china and put jobs there as well. Well, it undermines what we do back at home, particularly when you send overseas things that are necessary for National Security. You got defense electronic parts, youve got pharmaceutical ingredients, rare earth magnet materials that are all going overseas. Once they get ahold over there or they start producing over there, they have every incentive in the world to keep things open and to protect the market in china, not in the United States. We have a tax code, maria, that rewards them for going overseas. We need to change that. We have other provisions in trade laws that actually reward them for taking jobs overseas to china. And china, he was right, they cheat, they dont play by the rules, they manipulate currency, they dont live up to their own minimum wage laws, health and safety laws. And that gives them a tremendous advantage over an american producer. So they go over there and once they get embedded in china, they advocate for everything thats good for china. They advocate that back home. They use their immense lobbying power to prevent us from passing laws, tax laws, that would not reward them for going overseas but they want more rewards. So they use their immense Bargaining Power to do that. Maria you mentioned lobbying groups. Youre right. Youre spoton on that richard. Because the Chinese Communist party has been able to create lobbying groups in hollywood, in Corporate America, in academia, so real quick, richard, your reaction to the news today President Trump signing an order monday temporarily barring new immigrants on the slate of employment based visas including the h1b, h2bs, the skilled workers from coming to the United States amid the coronavirus pandemic so that those jobs can go to American Workers. Look, why did he do that temporarily . Weve been saying this for 10 years. If the visa system was structured properly, you would only be able to bring people in when there was a real need and only when they paid them an adequate wage and adequate benefit. We said lets restructure the visa laws. We got opposition. This president had opposition to us. But its time now for us to say these visa laws dont work. Dont just do this temporarily. Lets do this and make it a sane system so when theres a real need we can get people but when there isnt a real need we shouldnt be able to bring people in to lower the wages of American Workers. Maria it sounds like you need to take this case directly to ceos of companies, richard, as you just heard what ag barr said, they want to make money in china. They see the growth there. Why are you getting involved in this, since retiring from tennis. You successfully invested in Many Companies. Youre a cofounder of sweetens cove spirits. What drew you to the project . Well, it started with the small nine hole public golf course in tennessee called sweeten cove. We brought the golf course along with Peyton Manning and jim mance and my cofounder said theres a tradition where before you tee off on the first hole you have a shot of bourbon or whiskey. The shots that were out there werent real good. We decided to make our own. Maria that is great. Mark, what about bourbon do you think is a growth story . I mean, has coronavirus affected distribution at all . And why do you think bourbon is going to be a Growth Business versus other alcohols . How come you zeroed in on bourbon . Well, the golf course itself which was our inspiration is very much a tennessee sort of place. Its field of dreams meets tin cup. Bourbon being a tennessee product made a whole lot of sense to follow that thread of pureity and authenticity. Weve been at it for a month or so. We never expected we would be launching in a pandemic. Few people decide to launch a Spirits Company at a time when essentially all the bars are closed. But weve had Great Success i think connecting with people who like the story, the product itself is really fantastic. They love the story. And so weve had a lot of fun with it. Were available only in two states now, to the extent that you can still find a bottle. Tennessee and georgia. And well continue to grow along the way. Maria well, i guess, andy, people are at home and theyre actually drinking more. I can only speak from personal experience. Ive certainly been drinking more recently. Were also so lucky. You know, were a bunch of guys from a lot of different avenues, so were lucky to have marianne onboard as the master blender. Luckily, we can get all the taste making and really questions of the blend over to her which has made it easier for dummies like me. Maria im glad youre working and investing as much as you are because a lot of my friends, myself included, thinker you retired think you retired way to young in tennis. What do you think about the u. S. Open beginning without the fans in the stands. I think theyre doing the best they can. Ive been on the calls behind the scenes and even to put together an ambitious plan where theyre chartering playing with people who have been tested from different parts of the globe and trying to set up a bubble, its certainly an imperfect world right now with what theyre doing. As youve seen with other tennis events who havent been as strict, as responsible, im actually really proud of the usta for the plan they put together. They had to have the plan in about a month ago without knowing what the roadway would look like, so i have to give credit for them. Theyve been very, very thoughtful and fingers crossed. Its the largest annual International Sporting event in the world so were hopefully it will happen. Maria would you have played . Serena is going to play.
