President trump making first Public Comments following the death of floyd george. The President Trump speaking from the white house last night threatening to use the military if states cannot halt the unrest. I am taking immediate president ial action to stop the violence and restore security and safety in america. I am mobilizing all available federal resources civilian and military to stop the rioting and looting to end the destruction and arson and to protect the rights of law abiding americans. Maria after that speech the president made a symbolic walkthrough park and visited st. Johns church across from the white house. The church was damaged by the fire over the weekend. This is a historic church. The church of president s. The family of george floyd commissioning independent autopsy, two doctors hired by floyds family caused homicide. Fired officer dreker chauvin kneeling on floyds face, the authority al finding fentanyl and methamphetamine in his system. He plans to charge the other 3 officers involved in floyds death, all 3 have been fired. It was mostly peaceful night in minneapolis last night but a new letter from the head of the police union is sparking new outrage. Union president bob curl slamming mayor and governor for lack of leadership, the terrorist movement thats currently occurring was a longtime buildup which dates back years starting with minimizing the size of our police force and floyds criminal history is not being hold. Protests escalating in cities across the country from Peaceful Demonstrations in minneapolis to looting in new york city where the iconic Macys Department store was vandalized overnight. President trump threatening more action if the violence does not let up. Today i have strongly recommended to every governor to demy the National Guard in sufficient numbers that we dominate the streets. Mayors and governors must establish overwhelming Law Enforcement presence until the violence has been quelled. If the city or state refuses to take the actions that are necessary to defend the life and property of their residents, then i will deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem for them. Maria joining me right now the former commissioner of new York City Police department and new York City FireDepartment Howard along with fox business Dagen Mcdowell, the wall street journal Senior WriterJon Hilsenrath and caldwell Gianno Caldwell. First your reaction to the threat of the military coming in if this does not stop . Well, i think its, you know, its always an option. Nypd can handle new york, they are very late starting. The curfew last night that started at 11 00 oclock was wrong. It should have started at 7 00 or 8 00 but the time it was imposed the aggregators and you can see that it is antifa and those groups, last night was violent and there was a lot of looting but i believe that the crowds across the country were smaller and will continue to get smaller if curfews are enforced. Maria you know, senator tom cotton put a list of times in the past and there were a lot of times when the military has actually been brought in to to organize things, have intervened, to maintain public order since the whiskey rebellion and its no surprise that the president would be calling on the military to stop the violence should it get worse, but let me ask you about what can be done within the new york Police Department and other Police Departments across the country, howard, i mean, are there classes, are there things that the Police Officers should be doing and to weed out bad cops . Howard two different questions. One to deal with violence and protests is they are gathering intelligence on who the perpetrators are and they need to move quickly and stop them before they start this looting. I believe that the nypd did not roll out as many officers as it could last night and it should plus they need to be given rules of engagement and need to be told that they could move a lot quicker than theyve been moving because whats going to happen here is as the curfews continue to take place, peaceful protestors will obey in bigger numbers and will be able to weed out the people who are vandalizing and the looting. I think thats very important. As far as the military is concerned, i dont think thats going to be required. The president has lots of other options before he goes to the military. There are federal agencies like the u. S. Marshals, the bureau of prisons, the fbi all who have adequate resources to deal with and they need to be coordinated but lets get to the point. What the president said yesterday is true. Its not his responsibility, its the governments responsibility and the governors need to make sure that police and state National Guards deal with it first. Maria what do you think of the response, howard . I think it varies from city to city. The police have to do a number of things. They have to make sure that justice is done very quickly relative to the perpetrators, i think we got a bad start and i put it strictly at the mayor of minneapolis fleeing precinct and letting it burn sent clear signal to antifa and other groups that are well organized in the country, go ahead loot and burn and nobody will do anything about it. Now we are catching up. Maria thats a very good point, Gianno Caldwell jump in here. I disagree, i believe that we are beyond that. I feel like the Pressure Cooker top is already broken or shattered into a thousand pieces. I want to know what do you think the path is to getting back to a true sense of justice, peace, and some Police Reform . Howard . Howard oh, i didnt realize it was a question for me. Certainly there needs to be a lot of training, deescalation training but i dont think you can broad brush the entire Police Community with what a criminal in a Police Uniform did. No ambiguity about how george floyd died and one of the things that should have been done in my opinion is he should have been arrested that day, you know, if this was a civilian he would have been immediately arrested pending charges. The 3 days that it took was justice standpoint but really not the right thing to do. He should have been arrested immediately. Maria all right, howard, thank you very much for being here this morning. Thank you, sirment we will keep watching. Howard, former nyc commissioner, former new york city mayor Rudy Giuliani on how he would be dealing with riots, you dont want to miss that. Maria welcome back, investors are fearing the nationwide riots could stall economic reopenings and however, u. S. Recovery could take better part of a decade according to budget office, the agency projecting a tenyear comeback from the coronavirus and that does not expect gdp to reach previous forecast until the Fourth Quarter of 2029. Joining us right now potomac wealth adviser mark avalon, rally underway of 176 points, firmer tone and in the backdrop the report from the cbo calling for tenyear recovery, your reaction . Two different stories, we have investors looking for the optimism that the fed is giving them with the low rates and super liquidity and congress on board with stimulating the economy, but yet the realities of reopening are going to be slow just from the coronavirus itself and now when we look at whats happening in the inner cities the recovery is going to lengthen. The damage is not just physical now, its to the psyche of people who are moving out of cities and businesses that are reluctant to return and that reduces tax base for cities and states. It went to graduate in newark 20 years after the Martin Luther king riots and newark was still browned out, still lacked the vibrant urban core and if the hint of that happens here that will lengthen the recovery. Maria wow, one idea is to fire up the Manufacturing Base here in the United States. Remember, the u. S. Economy is largely a Services Economy but thats the area that has gotten crushed because of the coronavirus and the shutdown on sunday morning futures i spoke with white house strategist steve bannon who told me what it will take to get the economy back on track and he mentions firing up the other side of the economy and that is the manufacturing side, watch this. Bring American Capital back for american jobs through american companies, that will make america the leader and the fourth industrial revolution. Thats what the country needs, thats what the millennials need we have two alternatives. Like donald trump says inevitable and its time to get focused on american jobs and highvalue added manufacturing jobs back to the American People. Maria so, mark, mark that requires supply chain coming back from china, do you see that happening and in the midst of all of this how are you allocating capital . You say its two different stories and investing and making money. Mark well, if youre going to invest based on industrial resurgence i think thats more of a 3, 5 or even a 7year outlook, the supply chains are not going to move right away. I think a combination of this coronavirus and the the inner city turmoil that we are seeing is going to emphasize the work from home, the technology communications, shop from home trend that we saw and its going to continue to weaken commercial real estate and also have a negative effect on retail and that is whats been happening for investors. Theyre weighing into the Growth Engine but theres obviously good reasons for that. Whats happening now is going to just Keep Technology at the forefront. Its going to encourage investment in technology, new ways of conducting commerce and thats where investors i think should be looking. I think theres still going to be values there because the change is going to be profound. Maria okay, we will leave it there, mark, great to have you this morning. Thanks so much. Good to be here. Maria mark avallone, our panel weighs in on the riots, we will be right back. You doing okay . Yeah. This moving thing never gets any easier. Well, xfinity makes moving super easy. Maria welcome back protesting raging across america, seventh night following the death of george floyd, some leading to looting in major cities, President Trump said yesterday hes ready to deploy u. S. Military if local governments cannot get the situation under control. George floyds brother terance floyd spoke out called for ending to violence surrounding his brothers death, watch. If im not here blowing up stuff and im not over here messing with my community, what are yall doing . What are yall doing . Yall doing nothing because thats not going to bring my brother back at all. Maria Dagen Mcdowell, weigh in. Powerful message there. Dagen it is to make distinction between people who are protesting injustice in this country, not the death of george floyd, but the treatment of black men and women by police and just by the nation. What we are seeing in new york city and other and other major cities across the country for another night are just thieves and criminals, looters, vandals taking advantage of a horrible situation of a broken community, a broken country. Even before this curfew that went into effect at 11 00 oclock last night, looters and thieves came out before that. The Nintendo Store right outside of the window here was breached, a best buy, nike store, the michael kors store right down the street, just to name a few of the stores. In the middle of the night somebody showed up in my building that appeared from sephora breakin trying to sell stolen merchandise to the people who work in the building. By the time i came to work at 3 00 oclock this morning, 4 00 oclock, the times square was under lockdown, you couldnt even drive down the streets coming into new york, but what this means is not just for new york city, not just new york state, its failure of government, by the governor, the mayor of the city but also will mean a much slower comeback for the broad economy. Before, over the weekend, there were moving trucks on every single street in new york at the end of the month. We are doomed for a downward spiral in major cities because people dont want to live there because the government cant protect its citizens which is the most basic right, protect the residents which is the most basic right of living in america. Maria 11 00 oclock curfew in, 11 00 oclock. That seems really late. What did you all think of the president s walkthrough through Lafayette Park going to church yesterday and made gesture by ag, bill barr, defense secretary esper ended up in st. Johns church which was boarded up with a bible. When he was walking through Lafayette Park flanked by the ag and secretary, look, we are not going to tolerate this, we are coming for you, we know whats going on. We know that this is not protestors, this is looters and criminals. Gianno the response to those who are rioting to response that are looterring, i will be honest, a lot of the mayors and governors who believe they can handle the situation, it was clearly proven that they could not handle the situation and i want to touch on what the looting
