restrictions on transportation, public events and certainly international travel. wuhan itself, the chinese government is planning to build a specialist hospital to treat coronavirus patients within of success. >> yes. it's interesting on this. we visited with a lot of ceos at several difference and lunches. probably a couple hundred ceos. what i heard again and again was i had no idea of the facts, i had no idea of the achievement. this cognitive dissidence in the country with bad information. i'm glad in the speech we put a lot of facts in. the president loves to deal with facts and lay it out on growth and unemployment, on the blue collar wage boom. on the stock market which is a sign of great business and a better economy to come. on the trade deal with china, usmca, japan and korea. and perhaps a trade deal with the united kingdom. we are negotiating in earnest with europe. the president's tough style. maybe they read the papers. maybe that's the problem. lou: you are still talking about the ceos. they have staffs required to provide them with the most recent data. it's stunning to think they would get their information from the chamber of commerce or the business round table rather than in the parole world in which they have to work. >> that's why i think the president is speak up. i have never been to davos before. i avoided it like the playing. but i'm glad i went this year. i was proud to be by his side. he did carry the day. second of all, i got in my own conversations to emphasize the facts of the matter. and i think that's very important. i think a lot of those folks are becoming trump supporters. but the american model. what did we do? lower taxes. massive rollback of costly regulations that damage business. energy independence, and successful trade deals and negotiations to stop unfair trading practices which has damaged everybody. workers, manufacturers, you a toes, farmers, technology people. simple program to create economic growth. lou: don't forget the importance of those tariffs which those same ceos at davos said would disrupt and destroy our markets and economy and prevent any possibility of growth and prosperity. they have been an important tool to restoring exactly those goals with this -- that this president said back in 2015. >> i agree. on this point, i agree. i think the president taught us how to negotiate. i agree. and i promoted it. but again he carries the day. during course of this election season, the facts will win out. that will be our card. lou: we live by that very, very same set of values. facts, [♪] lou: the coronavirus that originated in wuhan, china, has spread and it seems to be spreading just a little bit more every day. we now learn that at least 25 people have been killed, 850 confirmed cases now. that's about a 40% increase in fatalities almost each day since we became aware of the joust break, and a number of new cases northern ireland, mexico, scotland. and canada testing positive for the cyrus. travel restrictions like those imposed by the chinese government are the right course but delight inevitable. to sort through all of this and understand what proper screenings and education can do to help stop the straight ahead of this virus. joining us is dr. anthony fauci. these numbers are becoming frankly more impressive by the day. the rate -- i would assume this rate of fatality that we have seen so far will not keep moving up that quite the same percentage. i would expect it to decline intuitively. ways your expectation? >> it's a moving target. it's an evolving situation. that's why we are watching it carefully. what you are seeing is a real surge in recognition of cases. one of the critical issues that needs to be determined is we know for absolutely certain that it can be spread from human to human. the unknown is how sufficient you have sustained transmission from one person to another. if it adapts itself to be very efficient, then you have a more serious situation. it's not surprising you are seeing the surge? cases. what you are seeing when people travel outside of china. you have it in south korea, japan, tiled. those are d thailand. those are travel-related cases. when you get sustained cases outside of china and the wuhan district. that's the reason we are taking it serious will be and watching it carefully. lou: i know you are work at least one other country to develop a vaccine. reminiscent of the avian flu, there is an interval required to develop an effective vaccine. one of the estimates i have seen is 90 days. is that accurate? if not, in any case, what are your expectations? >> we mentioned and that's probably what you heard. we among others are developing a vaccine at the national institutes of health. from the time that we got the sequence to the time we actually can start testing tonight phase one trials for safety is about 3 months. so we expect to have it in people for phase one testing. but getting it in people for fizz one testing doesn't mean you have a vaccine you can utilize. it will take at least a year understood emergency circumstances to get a vaccine available. a vaccine though we need to work on it, is not the immediate answer. the immediate answer is good public health practices. remember with the sars outbreak? 2002. you had 775 dead. that outbreak was contained by classic public health practices. identification, isolation and quarantine where appropriate. that's what we need to do right now. that's what the chinese are trying to do in china by restricting travel in certain cities. lou: are you impressed by what the chinese -- i remember vividly the discussions and concerns in the country and the world. the chinese, are they doing what you think is correct?
