Education Dept. drops embattled for-profit college accredito

The Education Department is backing an independent advisory board vote to prevent the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, a controversial accreditation body, from serving as the gatekeeper between colleges and billions of dollars in federal financial aid.
