Early sound exposure in the womb shapes the auditory system

An MIT-led study suggests degraded sensory input is beneficial, and necessary, for auditory development. Using computer models of the human auditory system, researchers showed limiting input to low-frequency sounds as the model learned to perform certain tasks improved their performance.
