Since myanmars military takeover in february this amid reports that security forces have opened fire on protesting medical workers and india sets another doomed Coronavirus Record for cases 200000 in the single day so far this month the country has logged 2000000 new infections will go to one hospital where the Vaccine Drive is being described as chaos. Im sorry Kelly Welcome to the Program President Joe Biden is pulling american forces out of the longest war in u. S. History troops will leave afghanistan by the symbolic date of september the 11th now washingtons nato allies will also be pulling out speaking at the white House Biden said that the withdrawal will begin next month and. And before the 20th anniversary of the 911 terror attacks u. S. Forces have been fighting in afghanistan for 2 decades in a moment well hear from our correspondent in the afghan Capital Kabul 1st heres Joe Biden explaining why american involvement in a long Running Conflict has become unsustainable. We cannot continue the cycle of extending or expanding our military presence in afghanistan hoping to create ideal conditions for their drawl and expecting a different result im now the 4th united States President to preside over american Troop Presence in afghanistan 2 republicans 2 democrats i will not pass this responsibility on to a 5th after consulting closely with our allies and partners with our military leaders and intelligence personnel with our diplomats and our development experts with the congress and the Vice President as well as with mr ghani and many others around the world ive concluded that its time to and americas longest war its time for american troops to come home now this decision by the biden administration could ramp up pressure on the taliban and the afghan government to reach a Peace Deal that has been extremely elusive still there are fears that the country could collapse into a brutal civil war once u. S. And nato troops leave heres how the announcement was received in afghanistan. The news broke on in the national holiday its ramadan and in the streets of kabul many were on their way to the mosque or to do some last Minute Shopping to break the fast off the dock. Nobody here expected the u. S. Announcement of its Troop Withdrawal. By the Bidens Decision took me completely by surprise as i think it did all afghans. Its definitely not the right time to withdraw u. S. And all other foreign troops from the country and. For the us its a historic decision after 20 years the longest of a conflict the us military has been involved in will come to an end and with it the deployment of all other allied troops there are still 10000 soldiers stationed here mostly to consult and support afghan security personnel what will they leave behind parliamentarian and womens Rights Activist Nahid fareed is concerned Rebel Item may have to act as the match this hasty decision to pull out u. S. Troops plunges afghanistan into a deep crisis but it could trigger another civil war brawny commit to one. Her view is shared by many international Experts Security in afghanistan has deteriorated dramatically. An agreement the Trumpet Ministration reached with the taliban in february last year failed to bring any peace. 20 years after they were expelled by the u. S. And its allies the taliban now control nearly half the country over the last few months they have repeatedly threatened war. After the u. S. Announcement the taliban spokesperson demanded the immediate withdrawal of all foreign troops and announce that the taliban wont take part in any further peace negotiations. After 20 years of international military engagement and billions of financial aid the u. S. And its allies set to leave behind a country that remains one of the poorest and most unstable in the world. And lets get the perspective from afghanistan on this matter i am joined now by latif a journalist in Kabul Afghanistan thank you so much for joining us we heard in that report the fear among some that this Troop Withdrawal could potentially even lead to civil war how valid is this concern is the only concern its a concern thats been around since 2013 but really right now a lot of the talk in the country is just sort of this is an answer you know people are expecting some kind of an answer from the United States but its an answer that leads to more questions. Its more worry its more uncertainty and people just kind of feel like you know its going to be 4 more months of worry 4 more months of wondering whats going to happen next so its not really any kind of a solid answer its an answer that leads to more questions what has been happening there on the ground because you know we we have reports in the past year there has been this surge in violence especially targeted killings among civilians among among women in among you know civil society groups people like journalists judges for example walk us through whats been happening there on the ground and what its been like for civilians. This is exactly the pres like now were at a state where like ill give you an Example Couple months ago i traveled to logout province which is about 40 minutes south of kabul and that province has always been unstable its always been into care its always been plagued with. Poverty but and in the past when we would go to logout we would be afraid of mines along the way and the irony is this time when we came back to kabul the driver said welcome back to kabul the land of landmines and. So thats really how badly the situation has changed to the point where the city of kabul feels just as unsafe as any other province in the country right now and you know 2 other provinces that have spent a lot of time in over the last couple years ning are in the east hate often the west both have become remarkably. Safe over the last couple years with there are we have the city of jalalabad becoming less and less safe as the socalled islamic state forces move away from the district and more towards the provincial capital and then in the city of herat we have in the province of it out we have both the provincial capital the city becoming unsafe and districts that were you know no problem to go to only a year and a half 2 years ago becoming complete no go zones and these are 2 of the biggest most important commercial economic cobbs of the country that are becoming less and less secure along with kabul ok so really had to tarry writing Security Situation that youre describing there and tell us also about i mean you know there are thousands of afghans who have helped the u. S. And its 20 Year War in the country what happens to them now does this move now put them in greater danger because presumably they have a target on their back from the taliban. Theyre absolutely have a target on their back from the taliban and they were given promises by the United States by the u. K. By other countries that they helped that they would be brought in that they would be given visas but there are so many letter still waiting and they are under threat obviously from the taliban there are some who left their posts in the military who also feel under threat from the military and from the government they feel under threat of a rise with these targeted killings that you know people are claiming responsibility for that creates even more fear for them of who could kill them who could arrest them. And clearly you know its a very real issue and its something that you know as the u. S. Is ending its longest war here it also has to take responsibility for the people that work for them that put their lives in danger and that are out risk every moment that theyre in this country to provide them some kind of assistance and actually bring them to the United States as they promised. Following the situation on the ground for us in afghanistan joining us from kabul thank you so much for your reporting. Thank you. And lets take a look at some other stories making headlines the editors of a russian Student Magazine that covered nationwide protests supported jailed Opposition Leader Alexina Vonnie have been charged with incitement to charges stem from a video documenting intimidation and threats against students the editors could face 3 years and person. The us Police Officer who shot and killed Dante Wright an unarmed black man has been arrested prosecutors plan to charge Kimberly Potter with 2nd Degree Manslaughter she faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted the incident has sparked 3 nights of unrest in the city of minneapolis. Security forces in myanmar have reportedly opened fire on medical workers who were taking part in a Prodemocracy Protest in the city of mandalay hundreds of people have been killed many more injured since a military coup in february overthrew the elected government this week marks the neon mars traditional new Year Festival but instead of celebrating many continue to protest. They should be celebrating the new Year Festival of 10 jan instead theyre marching against a coup. That saw the overthrow of their elected leader aung san Suu Kyi and replaced her with a military dictatorship. Cross me and my protesters holding flowers are using this week as a rallying cry. But they know the Risks Security forces roam the streets. Dissent is quickly and brutally stamped out. Just ask these people link current state forced into hiding in caves after the military join to carried out airstrikes in their region. The military seems intent on intensifying its pitiless policy of by indians against the people of myanmar using military grade and indiscriminate weaponry. More than 700 people have died since february according to a local monitoring group. But that hasnt stopped the protesters as they continue their fight for freedom. And now there have been calls for countries like china to hold the military junta in Myanmar Accountable lets get more on that angle you can see standing by to share his expertise with us is it a hard Sanch Night or he is a professor of chinese politics and international relations at the f. U. University in Berlin Welcome to the program thanks for joining us walk us through the china. Good Morning Walk and walk us through the chinese response to this coup and how it has potentially been impacting the situation on the ground where weve been seeing the violence escalating. Well this is a merciless regime quite obviously and if it belongs to a group of chinese quote unquote allies like for Example North Korea but certainly also including the myanmar military. About Bridge China is not really happy Chinas Interest is not seeing a military coup being restored in myanmar. Dont forget the chinese government has also been cooperating with the democratically elected government of our son to achieve quite intensively in the Chinas Interest is not establishing a certain type of political system in myanmar but having an overall political system in place because myanmar is a Core Country in chinas geostrategic interest it is the Transit Country between the Indian Ocean and the southwest and chinese province of the united it could be a stream the important as a Transit Country should something like you have seen it happening in the Suez Canal happened in the very sensitive area in America Strait and that Case China needs stability in the political system in order to use myanmar as a Transit Corridor Fawell gas resources even for trade so its not about the domestic situation in myanmar predominantly it but certainly about the geo strategic position of the country so ultimately its all about economic interests is that is that what it is. It is economic interests it is geo strategic Interests China has investing been investing extremely intensity in myanmar in railways in streets in lines in deep sea ports also refused to keep the Government Or China as ever strong the navy moving around the Indian Ocean and having deep sea ports in me and not available so its a whole spectrum of geo strategic interests tell us because you know we seen you know others in the international Community Community condemning the spy the military and the on mar as the Death Toll there is rising the u. S. And the u. K. Have imposed economic sanctions on the contrary how do you see this now sort of shaking out going forward because you know we have some countries that are trying to put pressure on the country and that others that that that that you know seem to still be embracing it for example like china is this basically driving me on mar into chinas arms. Well i mean our money is in chinas arms even without this military coup it would be closely connected to china but the problem is what else could we do we could condemn it equips to step through sanctions but this leads us to this old and familiar debate about sanctions sanctions do have effects yes but most of the time as we can see in russia and in many other cases they do not have the intended effects they are created for so i would have my doubts whether a stronger from western countries even military economic sanctions would really change the behavior of this brutal military vision in the end it will be up to the people of myanmar they take the courage to do the streets they risk their lives they dont need only start strong words they would need anything else but this is what we do not supplied to them they are getting. Rhetorical support but thats it in the end that has been the case in the past and unfortunately it will happen this time as well so many of them have already given their lives given their lives to the cause of democracy given that there are their lives to the hope for for freedom in the country. What do you make of whats going on is there any hope for the citizens or do they not stand a chance against the military. Well you can only applaud these people who have the coverage to end of the streets each and every day again knowing. That theyre doing it we are fed up with military government in other words and all we can do is give them any support we could muster but as i said theres little we can do from from outside it is up to them and we can only hope and support them and they might in the end be successful in sweeping away a military regime and reestablishing at democratically elected government the race is open and i sat china certainly be reluctant to condemn this military coup. A different Reason China is reluctant to accept external interference in its own affairs so it is also reluctant to establish this interferes in other cases as well china will be silent china to be watching and following its own interests but the World Community can only hope that these characters are just people in myanmar in the end will prevail and hope indeed they do we thank you so much for joining us ever had such night are professor of chinese politics and international relations at f. U. University in for a 1000 thank you. Well india has set another new record for Corona Virus cases 200000 in the last 24 hours and just in the 1st half of this month 2000000 new infections have been logged experts are blaming Complacency And Frustration among the public for the search many states have started worrying posing restrictions such as curfews as the cases increase so does the demand for vaccinations as many. Reports from gaza and bought. At this small private hospital are struggling to register the nation against 1000. That the show is one of them almost 70 he has pushed short with the girls for her and. Told us that we have seen. And did not get really sick even if they become women are decided to go to. Getting prepared or at least i want to be there to see it for do. What the crowd is larger than usual. One Staff Member called it. This hospital and that one point people because they had john out of. The past few days of many hospitals in this area including the one right behind me face up over 1000 back shortage why some of people had to cut down on the number of people they were vaccinated every day other had to stop the Vaccination Process entirely for a few days these are both came at a time when several states in the country are facing the public 19 that the Shortage Crisis including maharashtra which at the moment is the worst Hit State the hospital did receive its stock in fact seem to be after having gone for nearly a week without people hopefully they can get the job. Well there was some hesitancy to get vaccinated earlier the past few weeks have seen demand increased rapidly. We didnt have the Rock Scene available porter short. Getting supplies. And weve started more people have started coming poor execution fight. Their wars and. India is recording and alarming number of new coronavirus cases every day and infections are now spreading much faster as Hospital Scramble to increase capacity there are clear signs the indian Health Care Sector is again coming under severe strain. Is dr who founded a chain of hospitals offering affordable cant cost the 2nd be a tsunami the numbers are mind boggling the medical infrastructure is completely overwhelmed beyond struggling to get medicine struggling to find oxygen patients are struggling to find birds. 24 days 7 put us 2 birds and other into the equipment needed and that means the doctors needed to provide the facilities that are to be necessary to combat this Pandemic But Josh says he is disappointed that the lessons from the past year have not been learned adequately. For the people waiting here there is some really at least for now. They are getting their short. Hoping that will give them some protection against the corona biters. And germany is seeing its biggest rise in Corona Virus cases since early january just under 30000 new infections have been registered in the last day almost 300 people have died taking the total number of deaths in germany to almost 80000 the government is seeking to push through fresh Measures Health Minister again sponsor as new restrictions are inevitable. Right scenes and testing alone will not be enough to break the 3rd wave it will take decisive action and hard as it is further restrictions. We can already full see that if we dont stop this trend our Health Care System would reach its limits thats why the situation in the intensive care units is one of the most decisive factors because our main goal in this pandemic is to prevent our Health Care System from being overwhelmed. And for more lets bring in chief political Editor Michelle local to mckayla the last 24 hours showing the highest number of new cases in more than 3 months how bad is it. Its pretty bad if you listen to experts and theyve been warning for weeks now that those intensive care units will be overwhelmed some 80 percent of those units are already in use now with covert patients but also other cases of patients of course and we see that as there is a new federal law in parliament that is already trailing events this national Emergency Break which parliamentarians will start discussing this weeks and this week and will probably be done and dusted by the end of next week entails an Emergency Break that sort of hit with curfews a new restrictions from an Incidence Rate of 100 Infections Post 100000 people within the space of day 7 Days Germany is just hit 160 thats how bad the situation is and we hear the Health Minister here once again appealing to those federal state still bickering over policy to simply implement its tighter doc down right now germany is expected to centralize its covert 19 response meanwhile on the political level to 8. Clearly if you listen to experts and devaney is still a far cry from actually centralising the entire response is this individual action at the point of this 100. 00 Incidence Rate within the space of 7 days and were reminded once again today that germany is a far cry from having a unitary approach as it heads deeper and deeper into this wave we heard the Health Minister again spawn there reiterate that it would have been a good idea to have a wave break a lockdown over east of the machall so spectacularly failed over that she had got everybody round the table too greedy and then for technical reasons it wasnt possible also the implementation of the Vaccination Campaign is still relatively slow with the Health Minister vowing some 20 percent of people to be vaccinated by the end of april currently its round about 16 in britain its almost half of the population so it is a very very urgent situation right now and policy is not moving fast enough chief political Editor Mr thank you bernie made off the architect of a Ponzi Scheme that scammed investors out of billions of dollars has died in prison he was 82 the former chairman of the Nasdaq Stock Exchange reportedly died of natural causes you have been suffering from chronic Kidney Failure heres a look back now at one of the most notorious wolves of last reach.
