accused of his murder our correspondent is there with the latest. and to the end of an era in german football national team coach of his stepping down a year early to tell you what he now has in common with german chancellor angela merkel. hello i'm claire richardson welcome to the show britain's queen elizabeth has responded to the tell all interview given by her grandson prince harry and his wife and markel the couple shocked millions with their accusations of racism especially the revelation that a member of the royal family voiced concerns over the skin color their son could be born with in a statement released by buckingham palace the queen said the whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for harry. and meghan the issues raised particularly that of race are concerning some recollection recollections may vary they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately harry macon and archie will always be much loved family members. and charlotte tells them bill is in the london with the latest charlie it's at the palace quite a while to come up with a statement what do you make of it. yeah well i think a lot of people in palestine i wouldn't say what does it take quite a while you have to bear in mind that the allegations that have been leveled at the world family at the palace have been extremely serious particularly the issues surrounding race which you mentioned of course mental health as well that was something that was covered extensively in the interview meghan saying that she felt so lonely and so isolated that at times she felt like she was having considering taking her in life that's extremely serious and that's something that the powers want to look at very closely they want to put out a carefully crafted statement that represents the whole family showing the public that they are taking this seriously and let's bear in mind this is also a family drama that's playing out the family themselves will have needed time to digest what was said a lot of the claims in that interview i'm sure many in the royal family would have found streaming difficult listen they need to process they've now released this this short statement and i think looking at it it's clear that the world family now would like this at least for now to be the end of this they're trying to put a stop to the media frenzy that surrounding this interview saying they're taking it seriously but they will be handling it privately well it remains to be seen whether or not that is going to be allowed to be the case because still a lot of questions are asked about what exactly is going to be done to address some of the claims made in that interview and you write that these are extremely serious allegations and the royal family clearly under pressure here do you think that this interview is going to do serious damage to support to public support for the marquis which is after all an institution seen by many as outdated and intolerant. yeah well you have to bear in mind that public opinion in the u.k. is split about the royal family and that is very clear from the polling that you've seen that's come out since that interview add in fact the majority of the general public feel more sympathetic with the royal family than they do for obama than they do for meghan and harry which is extremely interesting given the nature of that interview i think there are some people who really found it left a fan taste in their mouths not only the way that the megan and harry the sussex is left the world family but the nature of this interview the way it was conducted the fact that it was done while his grandfather was in hospital for example is something that a lot of people have talked about what is interesting though is that young people seem to have more sympathy in the u.k. for macon harry than older people this is the 1st taste of a drama of family drama old this nature i mean a lot of the older generation myself i would include in this remember what happened with princess diana with harry's mother and the scandal that then unfolded in the way that the world family had to really look at the way that it's managed conducts itself remains to be seen now whether the reverberations like that will be felt for years to come off of this and ran awakening for the younger generation charlotte charles until in a london thank you very much for that update. and the united states now where jury selection has started in the george floyd case former police officer derek chauvin is accused of murdering floyd in the city of minneapolis last may the selection was supposed to start on monday but it was delayed after an appeals court ordered the judge to consider an extra murder charge against a chauffeur and see here on the right when he's already accused of murder and of manslaughter the killing of george floyd a black man sparked protests in cities across the united states around the world. and your correspondent stuff and simon's joins us now from in front of the court in minneapolis a stop on this is such a high profile case that has sparked outrage not just in the united states but around the world how are they going to be able to find an impartial jury for this case. good question it's definitely a tall order major challenge for the judge for the defense team and for the prosecutors here today they went through 6 potential jurors and actually 2 got chosen so 2 jurors already selected and agreed upon and 4 were sent home and dismissed now this is going to go on for the next 23 weeks judges scheduled this whole procedure finding the right jurors for 3 weeks so there is time to spend but it is difficult is probably just if that are radically possible to find a really impartial mind but this is what of course the court is asking for an impartial mind set and you know there's the presumption of innocence and the jurors have to prove or have to make sure that the defense team and the prosecutors and the judges said this fight with translating to them that they are able to be impartial and to be. building a new opinion according to the law or within the realm of the law and through logic and rationality. and a former police officer and he's facing 2 charges of 2nd degree murder and manslaughter how difficult will it be to secure a conviction for both of these. how difficult will it be that's a good question that is basically the job of the 12 jurors and for the court i don't know how difficult it is but you see there's 2 charges because of course the prosecution wants and there may be even a 3rd one at least to stick the 1st charge comes with the up to 40 years of prison the 2nd the manslaughter charge still has 15 years and then there will be a 3rd degree murder charge possibly which also carries time so it needs to be all figured out as you know here in the u.s. the system is used a few things within the confines of the law and a defendant and accused person or individual and then the court will sort out what actually sticks to this to the to what happened and the decision will be made in who knows where in a few months but how difficult this is and what will stick i do not know the answer on this. correspondent chef and simon thank you very much. my supreme court judge in brazil has thrown out corruption convictions against the former president in that a silva in a moment opens the way for lula to challenge brazil's current hardline leaders i have also now in the next election a man known as lula made his name as a leftist firebrand and has long been a longstanding figurehead in a brazilian politics until the economy slumped and he was engulfed in scandal. he's one of brazil's most popular and divisive figure is now formally luis enough to silver could make a comeback to politics his bid to run 2 years ago was brought to a halt when he was convicted of corruption charges which he says were politically motivated but now a supreme court has a knowledge of the convictions the court said the southern city of could achieve or did not have the or farsi to try lula instead he must be retried in brasilia has long planed his innocence. in a tweet he said he's always been right in this long legal battle. the ruling now means little or has regained his political rights his longtime supporters celebrated on the streets of sao paolo. if i were both so narrow i wouldn't sleep peacefully because i'm sure that he'll be passing the presidential sash to lula. elsewhere some are not entirely convinced. i will not believe a politician who has already been arrested for corruption and i don't think lula would be the right person to run our country. and his main opponent a right wing president gyre balsa narrow hopes the image of corruption will stick to lula. fucking has always had a strong link with the workers we're not surprised by the decision in that sense. but both scenario has been losing popularity amid the coronavirus pandemic analysts believe the far left could shake up the political scene in brazil's elections next year while lula faces charges and is yet to be tried in brasilia the country heads into an era of growing political polarization. again you have to speak now on some other stories making news around the world the u.s. has stepped up its condemnation of the situation in myanmar saying it's quote repulsed by the ongoing use of lethal force against protesters to officials from the overthrown and l d party have died in police custody since monday police raids have also targeted independent journalists in recent days. the united nations has condemned the police killing of 9 people during weekend raids in the philippines rights winning the world cup in brazil but his side has struggled ever since just as the case with the german chancellor angela merkel many say there has overstayed his time at the top. germany's 2014 world cup triumph was your commute scrapping glory. he had already been in the job for 8 years at that point but decided to plough on in search of more success. 4 years later and the mood was very different as germany return from the world cup in russia having been dumped out as holders in the group stage. fans were in shock but still lived out to continue more disappointing results followed. the 6 nil hammering by spain in the nation's league in november led to widespread calls for him to step down. lurve had been due to stay until the 2022 world cup but ahead of qualifying games later in march he has suddenly decided to give clarity he has announced he will leave after the european championship for june. he will hold a press conference on thursday but in a statement said i am taking this step very consciously full of pride and with enormous gratitude but at the same time with an unbroken level of motivation as far as the euros are concerned because of the timing of his decision is good it means there won't be any speculation about contracts cheering the euros. now it means the decision has been taken and there is clarity and it could even give the team of boost knowing that it's the coach's last tournament and he'll want to make use of that of this. liverpool's german coach jurgen klopp has already ruled himself out of the running to replace if that's the question we want to. do before the job or for the benefit of course of the german national team because i won't know. the euros being postponed from last year because of the coronavirus means there is little time for a successor to stand his off or at sea on the team because world cup kicks off in november next year assuming you call the 5. champions league football and in the round of 16 going to sleep aside dot meant have drawn to 2 would say but advance for the quarter file finals on aggregate after having won their 1st encounter young the norwegian scoring machine early holland netted both of jordan's senegal usually a beacon of stability in west africa has been rocked by its worst violence in years . i call for calm and peace. all together let's silence our bitterness and avoid the logic of welcome to the program now one song is still calling for mass protests across the country are these likely to continue now that he's been released from police custody. yes really some. must protest but. peacefully so in this. because a call already made such a day by a group of 40 could parties in cities and movement for tree days of the most russians truly a country on monday just in wednesday and yes the release of song goes seems to ease the tension especially since the president made a speech on monday on monday evening or so calling for calm and an easing of the curfew was imposed in the context of the struggle against good night and all of this could help ease the tension but yes the demonstration continue but i think that the to be. it won't be in the same level as they was last days ok just looking at. as a politician he came 3rd in the elections several of the opposition candidates who contested against the president has since joined the government of national unity is there any chance of being co-opted or or does he poses a genuine threat. i think there is no chance to. be gulped and. to join the regime because he's now in a position of being the number one opponent to do too much to resume and he's a truly a 3 to the ruling establishment as he's calling to a shift in the way politics is done in the country since the independents. also getting more and more support from people who are coming from different political lines you can have former leftist you're not just and but a few counties in also sokol in his allies also paid for already finishing off relations with the form of the arpaio in d.c. is badly seen by the establishment in and is political. it is a political ally and is seen as a new a new wave in the country so yes. a switch to 2 government truly aware that it is absolutely necessary to preserve democracy ok. and speaking to us that thank you very much for bringing us up to speed. while most of the world has been under covert 19 restrictions it's been largely business as usual in tanzania last month the government there finally acknowledged the disease as a public health priority still not much has changed like in the island of zanzibar where tourists are still coming in. this is the legendary so i ot's have to sara festival and sounds about. everyone is dancing to the hearts content tourists and locals to grab a
