a landmark report on earth's threatens diversity and. the most amazing expectancy are going to prove to be much and you know the happy daddy it's a boy prince harry and his wife making the duchess in sussex a welcoming britain's latest boy don't think. i'm burnt off it's good to have you with us tonight election officials in turkey have scrapped the result of a controversial vote for the mayor of istanbul the ballot so a humiliating defeat for turkish president richard tie affair to what is really a key party one that marches local elections over all but the last key may oral concha. it is stamboul and in the capital ankara the party challenge the legitimacy of their votes and now the rerun will be held we understand on june twenty third. arden's get the latest now from our turkey correspondent she's standing by in stamboul good evening to you you'll use so to me a little bit about the reason that was given for basically declaring no one void the last election and redoing the election well brant first of all president admins ruling aka party for weeks contests the outcome of these elections here in istanbul claiming and i quote organized irregularities of votes they narrowly lost as you mentioned and now it seems tonight the election authority here in turkey ruled in favor of this request to council and repeat this vote here in istanbul turkey the largest city a statement says some ballot box comegys have been formed against the law that have been some irregularities so we will have to learn more details about this but more importantly the statement says that the mandate will be taken away from istanbul's new opposition may or a crimean mamu of the largest opposition party here in turkey the c.h.p. he actually started serving as mayor of istanbul already and now the men date will be taken away from him and this is quite an unprecedented move here in turkey i haven't seen something like this before it's like a political explosion i mean we remember has been that long ago when the new mayor took office you know you covered that fores what has the mayor been saying about this. well why some some in his party have called the decision a quote plain dictatorship and they have also accused the ruling a.k.p. of having pressure to the election authority into this decision a crimean mahmoud just gave a very emotional speech in his message of course he also condemned this decision but his message to the people was stay calm and stay positive at some point and it was quite remarkable he got rid of his jacket he rolled up his sleeves and he told people don't lose your hopes i'm going to be here for you i'm going to be your hope so a very strong speech there a very strong message she already seems to be back in campaign mode but nevertheless many people here maybe opposition voters all very frustrated we talked to some of them earlier let's listen what they had to say david to a cuckoo curious no state no law there are no rights no justice. this is a preplanned game and the election authority is a part of it what else can i say can they didn't all this came from somebody who doesn't want to lose his power so it's no surprise the vote should not have been canceled in your state is it meant to make sure that this no is the election process will start all over again and the economic troubles will continue. and that this decision doesn't represent voters it clearly has been made ignoring the people's will in libya it'll be interesting to see what happens if they do rerun this election. rolls back into power. why is it such a big political price in turkey. well first of all is symbol is turkey's largest city but it's also the most important city for president add on himself he started his political career here in istanbul as mayor all the city in the one nine hundred ninety s. and then rose to the presidency but it's simple also means that power to him it means prestige and it means enormous wealth to the president his family and to all of the other people in his inner circle of power there is a populous saying here who ever wins a stumble wins turkey so there is a lot of symbolism involved here both for the ruling party and present add on and the opposition. here are some of the other stories now that are making headlines around the world a turkish court has overturned the prison sentence imposed on a prominent critic of the heir to one government d.w. contributor and journalist paling uncle had been sentenced to a year in jail for allegedly insulting a former prime minister who says that she must now pay a fine instead palestinian leaders in gaza have agreed to a cease fire with israel they hope to end the worst violence that they've seen in five years at least twenty five palestinians and four israelis have been killed in clashes since saturday israel's military has allowed schools and roads to reopen hungary's anti immigration prime minister viktor orban has sharply criticized the leading candidate for president of the european union commission or bonn says he will not support germany's munford they've are or bonds for this party and has been suspended from the biggest grouping in the european parliament because of concerns about a lack of democracy in hungary bottle. a million species are at risk of extinction from climate change from over fishing and pollution the united nations' first report on biodiversity out today also tells us that this unprecedented decline in nature is called by and to strengthening you guessed it humanity and here's some of the key stats from that report there are an estimated eight million animal and plant species living on our planet right now the report says that one in eight of them are at risk of being wiped out to we're talking about a million species that could be gone that means forty percent of all known in theory be instrumentally five percent of all mammals are under threat. across the land through out the seeds. and way up in the sky the assault on nature by humans has reached every corner of our planet and species are now disappearing tens to hundreds of times faster than during the last ten million years. are good too for most of us living down to morgan freeman away train us left on the planet our need for ever more food and energy of the main drivers of this destruction and now according to the most comprehensive study ever undertaken of how human well being is dependent on the natural world the assault on the environment is threatening our very existence if we cannot hold climate change or hold the loss of biodiversity we will threaten food security we will threaten water security we will threaten human health and therefore i think governments are now recognizing if they don't start to deal with climate change of biodiversity they cognate there are elements of human well being they're absolutely fundamental we've changed the way we use three quarters of our land since pre-industrial times we're overfishing around a third of our marine stocks we're dumping millions of tons of waste into the world's waters and global warming is already impacting the habitats of half of our mammals so nothing less than an overhaul of economic systems and a total shift in political and social mindsets will stop any of this say the report's authors business as usual is a disaster we're going to continue to trade clive we're going to continue to lose by the visit but we can either have a more sustainable future if we choose the right policies and the right technologies if we change our behavior we can have a much more sustainable future for our children and grandchildren. the publication coincides with a growing global awareness of the impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss and it hopes to tap into this with some key message is we haven't lost the battle yet we can be part of the solution and most importantly nature is essential for human existence. for tonight aviation investigators are examining the voice and data recorders of a russian airplane that made an emergency landing in moscow yesterday at least forty one people died when the plane crash landed at last feels main airport the plane was flying to the northern city of months when the pilot reported technical problems and then turned back. little is left of the sukhoi superjet one hundred it seems incredible that any of its seventy eight passengers might have to live forty one people died as the plane made a hot emergency landing at a moscow airport some passengers documented the dramatic touchdown and the terror of those inside the sukhoi as flames engulfed the cabin this man made it out surviving passengers recollections will be crucial they could confirm whether the pilots account of why the plane crashed is accurate he blamed lightning as the thirty's investigation continues the transport minister has ruled out grounding the sukhoi superjet and yes no it was no reason to not thank you. but the
