falling for 12 hours now. some spots up to 12 inches of rain already. we will add on 10, 20, even though 30 inches in so spot. i want to point out the pink line right here. this is a tornado watch. with hurricanes we often have the potential of seeing tornados, especially if they make landfall. there's a couple of reasons why. hurricanes have a lot of heat, they're a heat machine. they can spur these thunderstorms and they have a lot of thunderstorms around the center and that's why we tend to see that. plus once they get closer to land, they have friction. there's the interaction with the land. we see the wind change and that's why we expect the potential for some tornados. the good news is they're usually short lived but we are looking at potential power outages along with the tornados, "top gun" to be aware of and somebody we are concerned about overnight and into tomorrow morning. the tornado watch ends at 7:00 in the morning so we have hours to go before we see it ending. 85 miles per hour winds in wilmington. 43 in elizabeth city.
