what had been tried with north korea wasn't working, sanctions weren't having the intended effect, china was not intervening in a way that made them change their stripes. so is president trump's handling of north korea working better? >> well, it might be. i've commended him for 14 months for making north korea his top priority. i don't think i command the tweets little rocket man and the rest of that, but i think the pressure put on north korea by a coalition is making an impact. and i think that china is aligning here in a way that it hadn't in the past. china and north korea, according to the scholars at the wilson center, are not best friends. let's understand that. there's been mistrust for years. but in this case they have a common interest, which is regime survival for the moment for the kim family and also relevance for china in what comes down. >> jane harman always good to see you, hans nichols in seoul, thanks to you as well.
