since the 1st of june, the president had exactly one day where he was north of 40% in the gallup poll. zero days in august. zero days in july. back in the spring, he'd have a number of days. sometimes a third of the month, he'd be above 40%. this is like -- this is, as you say, a line. it bobs up and down. the line is sinister for him. august seems to have been really an epic, where a big part of the country turned off the set and i don't think it's going to go back on. >> when you see that today's daily tracking poll is an all-time low for him, this comes after his performance, which i guess is the right word, his performance in the aftermath of the hurricane. >> you also see a lot of signs of a slowing american economy. job creation numbers come in, continue to be positive, but they're not growing as fast as they were. the american economy is buffing up against resistance.
