made. anne thompson live at the vatican. that cloud still holds over the conclave but give us the tick tock of what to expect with march 12th. >> reporter: well, tamron, certainly the scandals that you have mentioned are part of the discussion that is going on among all the cardinals here, but the big news today as you said is the fact that we have a start date for the conclave. it is tuesday, march 12th. what will happen is in the morning there will be a mass here at st. peter's basilica. all the cardinals will participate to pray for the election of a new pontiff and tuesday afternoon going in to the sistine chapel. they will leave their blackberries, their cell phones, their computers behind. there will be an electronic jamming devices around the sistine chapel to make sure no information gets in or out. and innocent, tuesday afternoon, they will vote for a new pope. now, the magic number is 77. that is what someone has to get in order to be elected.
