her young daughter. this is a tough time for her. she hasn't been able it go back to work, hasn't been able to go home. >> jeff, thank you so much. it is a race against time along the mississippi right now. the diverted floodwaters are making their way toward small towns in louisiana. everybody is pitching in, even prison inmates who have been filling sandbags and delivering them to homeowners. nbc's janet shamlian is live in stevensville, 65 miles south of baton rouge. and, janet, i understand the inmates just dropped off some sandbags at the home you're by right now. >> reporter: yeah, they made a couple of trips here, chris. in fact, there is one car load full of them right here. i think i'll standing in their path. and several others in the background here, they made a couple of trips to help out this family who are permanent residents here. right now, they think they might stay because the water line or where the water is going to come to has been revised downward. initially they were thinking it would come into the house right about here. now the estimates are down here. this part is actually not part of their house.
