and sucking the oil back up to that point as well. he said really you have to understand this is a mitigation process. this is only going to just stop it. it's not going to be completely plugged. but there will still be oil spilling out there even with these mitigation attempts. >> the thing that's super disturbing today, reports that the spill could be ten times worse than originally thought. what are you hearing on that front? >> reporter: well, originally we'd been working for the past couple weeks here, 5,000 barrels a day, 210,000 gallons of oil being pushed into the gulf of mexico. that's the assumption they've had, the senate they've stood by and said that is an estimate from bp's standpoint. but there have been independent experts, many of them coming from the academic world taking a look at the under water video they recently released and they have deducted through formulas and their calculations that it's about 70,000 barrels of oil a day. so you can see the discrepancy but no one is really saying for sure how much is being put into the water right now. >> okay. thank you very much.
