politics and not because they are democrats or republicans or left or right. they want to do what's right or wrong for their family and communities. what they are seeing in washington, d.c. is basically nothing is happening. they voted for change and they don't feel like they have it. they understand that governors make a difference and mayors make a difference and they plow the roads and fix potholes and are in charge of our schools and our kids and so many things important. if we are going to get people out to vote, on tissues that are important to them, so many more of those issues seem to be happening at the state level now. >> and -- then if you were to look at the underlying fabric of washington, your experience over the past year, year and a half, do you feel like if you were to go there today, the -- incumbent politicians today are any more aware of how much at risk they are because of the perception that they work for special interests and against this country than they were a year, year and a half ago? >> i think they are probably really aware. but as a group, they don't seem capable of doing anything about it. it seems so easy. get rid of special interests money at elections and get rid of the earmarks.
