linzie janis abc news, owls head, new york. well congress has opened an investigation into that oil pipeline rupture along the central california coast last month. lawmakers want maintenance information on the badly corroded section of pipeline which released more than 100,000 gallons of crude oil. the spill blackened beaches 100 miles away. cleanup costs have already top topped $100 million. it was a rough week on capitol hill for the company at the center of the exploding air bag controversy. now a surprise move from the president of that company. here's abc's david kerley. >> reporter: the ceo of takata for the first time publicly -- [ speaking foreign language ] >> reporter: -- deeply apologized bowing for the deaths and injuries his company's airbags have caused. those airbags explode with excessive force, shattering, sending shards of metal through the bag into drivers. eight have died, seven in the usa. we've tried to talk to takata.
