♪ ride sally ride back when wilson pickett sang that song, many cars didn't even come with seat belts. my how things have changed. >> jim avila shows how new standards are making cars safer than ever. >> reporter: to make the safest car list, not only does the vehicle have to master five separate crash tests head on, the new front corner test, side crash, rollover roof strength, and how head restraints protect those test dummies. even after all of that, the truly safest vehicles on the road have to do more. the safest, like this subaru, have an option called a collision warning system that beeps if you get too close to the car in the front of you and applies the brakes even if you don't. the insurance institute says those systems are widely available on most makes at about $2,000 and worth it. because the warning alone reduces accidents by 7%.
