brent peterson of our orlando station wftv reports. >> reporter: most parents believe florida public schools protect the identities of their children. tamara says most parents are wrong. >> we're talking about a serious safety issue here. it's just horrible. >> reporter: the marion county school system will release for a price. personal information from what's called its student directory. for 65 bucks, we've got the names, addresses and phone numbers of every high school senior in the county. 4,000 of them. >> we don't want to deny the public what the public has the right to access. >> reporter: district spokesman kevin christian says the state requires it but florida department of education told channel 9, each district may determine whether it wants to release directory information at all, and if so, which information is released. orange county says, since it doesn't have to, it chooses not to. seminole county wouldn't release the information either and lake county wants to keep the list out of the hands of businesses that want to sell students something.
