he settled for a month-month extension. and he castigated the people in favor of the one-year extension, the house republicans. better for the republicans to have lost on this particular battle and the house now, because it will make them smarter after the first of the year, and whatever advantage the president has on this. whatever small advantage is going to be washed away by the holidays as people turn to presents and social gatherings and family. rick: so, the general consensus, karl is that speaker boehner was the big looser this week. i'm guessing maybe you think he's going to be okay. how does he come out of this? >> reporter: i think he's going to be okay. i know we like going out there and saying who is up and who down. i think the speaker retains respect from the vast majority of the people in his caucus. the voices that we have heard are in no place to mount any kind of a cue or leadership attempt. the speaker has done a masterful
