further north is watson lake milestone six hundred on the highway. this is yukon territory almost halfway on the trip. watson lake started as a simple camp for the construction of the highway at a still little more than a long road. but the town has become famous as the side of a particularly bizarre attraction on the alaska highway. the signpost forest. legend has it that a homesick soldier brought the first sign from his hometown in one nine hundred forty two others followed his example and with the growth in tourism the signpost forest became more and more international and bigger and bigger too there are currently more than eighty thousand signs here although nobody knows for certain
