protesters still in that square at this hour? >> reporter: they've been there about three days. they had set up a camp. there were tents. i was in there just before the police moved in. there were families. there were women. there were children. there were people camping out on the grass having picnics, smoking pipes. it was a very relaxed atmosphere. they had food, they were clearly staying there a long time. they told me this was their tahrir square, their liberation square like cairo. they were well organized. they had a place for people to charge their mobile phones. they even had a media center with media center signs and an internet hookup. so this was well organized and they said they were planning to stay. but clearly after a day of the police leaving them alone, the government decided with a very firm hand to crack down and there is nobody there right now. nobody can get into tahrir square -- into the round about.
