Greene County residents called and wrote to Kroger expressing concern after last month’s announcement of the closings. Kroger cited reasons behind the closings as years of failure to make a profit and the unlikely chance to change the stores’ financial situation. The two stores had a combined 46 employees. “We are not able to change the decision,” said Eric Halvorson, Kroger’s corporate affairs manager. “The losses prevent it.”
