Defence Acquisitions Council today cleared the procurement of 118 Arjun Mark1A tanks for the Indian Army at a cost of more than Rs 6,000 crores (ANI) NEW DELHI: The Defence Acquisitions Council on Tuesday cleared procurements worth over Rs 14,000 for the country's military, including that of 118 indigenous Arjun Mark-1A tanks. The defence ministry had recently cleared the induction of these tanks into the Indian Army. Today's meeting of the council was chaired by defence minister Rajnath Singh. The 118 Arjun Mark-1A will be procured at a cost of more than Rs 6,000 crore. The tank has been fully designed and developed by the DRDO in close coordination with the Indian Army. 118 tanks would be joining the fleet of the first batch of 124 Arjun tanks which have already been inducted into the Army and are deployed in the western desert along the Pakistan front.
