Transcripts For CSPAN3 President And Vice President Visit Florida After Hurricane Irma 20170914

Incredible. I know that you are also in the process, but to think of the incredible power of that storm, and while people unfortunately passed, it was such a small number that nobody would have thought because, many thought it would be thousands and thousands of lives ended, but it is a small number which is a great tribute to you, and i know that in the case of fema and the coast guard and the job that you have done in saving people and saving lives as an example in ha harvey in texas, we talked about over 16,000 lives and nobody would even understand that, because it is hard to maj, and down here, the same thing. So i want to thank everybody. You guys are and i dont want to see you next week in another place, okay. Yes, sir, mr. President. And we have seen you enough. And i want to thank the First Responders on behalf of myself and the Vice President and melania wanted to be with us, because it has touched her heart what has gone on and we have seen the devastation, and we will see more of it now unfortunately, and i have to say that your governor where is our governor here . Rick scott. The job he has done is incredible, and i guess that i have been very lucky, and that is because you have a great governor in texas and a great governor in florida, and the job that rick has done is being talked about all over, and to think that Florida Power and light. Wheres eric . Eric . Come here, eric. Great job. Thank you. You keep going. And i will say, they are way ahead of schedule and more electrical people in this state than ever accumulated than anywhere in the world, and it is from all over the country they came, and i have never seen, and you have never seen anything like it. No, sir. And pam bondi who has done a great job the stop certain little problems before they start and getting some of the companies to put up a lot of money. And so the attorney general, i want to thank you, pam. Fantastic job. Really great job. And elaine, where is elaine . Elaine duke and wheres dont lose him, elaine. I have to say that working with you, governor, and working with, you pam, and working with, you elaine, and working with by the way with marco rubio who is around here someplace. It is a team like few people have ever seen. And marco, we want to thank you a lot, because you were very helpful and again, i have to say that what do i know, but i hope this man right here rick scott runs for senate, and i dont know what he is going to do, but i nknow that at a certain point it ends for you, and we cant let it end. So i hope he runs for senate, and who knows what he will do, and again, came down the say hello the you folk, and you folks, and the first lady and myself, this is an honor for us to be here. We are now going to tour some of the areas, and as are rick scott said, we were very, very fast, and we were signing papers as soon as they came n. And thank you, rick perry here as well. He is here. And the we have Linda Mcmahon and so many of the cabinet members here because they are going to help. And i want to thank mike pence and say a few words, please. And mr. President and first lady, it is an honor the be here to pay a debt of gratitude for the great leadership here at the state and local level. I know that the president directed the full resources of the federal government, the support of floridas effort to prepare for and prepare for and recover and rebuild from irma, and the president s directive was clear, wherever Hurricane Irma goes, we will be there first. Thank you to the great leadership of the governor and the great Emergency Management team, and the First Responders on the ground, that is exactly what florida did. As the president has said, we are are with you today, and we are going to be with you tomorrow, and tomorrow, and we are going to be with you until florida rebuilds bigger and better than ever before before. And one more word on a very important subject, the power is literally, and rick, it is going on as we speak, and it is going way a hehead of schedule, and ws ahead of schedule, and much of it is, most of it is outside of the keys where we have a very special problem, but we are working hard on, that and that is a very, very special problem. And that is just dead center, and we are working very hard on that, and so we have a lot of goods out, there and a lot of water, and fluids and everything, but i would like for the governor to say a few words, because again, he has been absolutely outstanding. Thank you, rick. And first of all, i would like to thank everybody for their prayers. We have had prayers are from all over the world and thank everybody for doing everything they can to get us back. I want to thank the president and the Vice President and i will tell you that they were always accessible. They made quick decisions. They surrounded themselves with outstanding people. They were constantly calling me to say what resource do we need . I want to thank the basically the entire military. I want to thank the coast guard, the navy thank secretary duke and always asking what resources can we bring to the table. And when you go to the keys, maybe there were ninefoot storm surges. There are homes toppled. We are we dont want to lose a life. Down here in, this part of the state we got flooding and wind and rain and plenty enough there in the keys and working hard to get the electricity back, and we have restored down to about 25 of the homes, and even wants the power back. We all want the power back, but i want to say that what they have done so far, it is so great, and we want our power back as quickly as possible. I would like to thank theed if ral government to thank the federal government for helping us once the power is on, then we will get the fuel back to the gas stations so make sure that we have fuel. And so, everybody is working hard and we have National Guard members, and National Guard members from other states to making sure that the shelters were open and people were comfortable, and opened up almost 600 shelters in record time, and it would not have happened but for the red cross, and the Salvation Army and the National Guard from other states so we have a lot of work to do, and this is that we are not done today, we will work hard and the federal government will continue to be a partner, and the locals will and the state will, and we will make sure that we will continue to be a strong resilient state. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, everybodys prayers to hem us get through this. Thank you. [ applause ] so we are now going to be making a tour of the areas, and going to see some of the folks, and make sure that they are happy, because we are trying to keep them as happy as we can under the circumstances. In many cases, they lost their homes, and it is a tough situation, and so, we will go to see a lot of the folks, and i will tell you that, again, i want to thank you, and thank the military. So, thank everybody, and we will see you later. Media, we appreciate your being so understanding, because it has ban tough period of time even for you folks, and we do ap preesh yat your understanding. This has been a difficult situation, as rick knows, almost all of the roads are now open, and the ports are just about open, and what we a had to do to get some of the ports open, people would not believe that we did so it quickly. So we are very proud of the job that everybody around has done, and thank you all, and thank you very much, and we will
