Position. I took it because i believed in the purpose of the commission. I believe it is very important for youngng people to know about Americas History, its true history. And so i made the decision to serve. I am proud of the work we did in a short period of time. But, for someone looking at the objective circumstances who did not make a lot of sense to take it most likely are commission would be abolished. I did for the good of the nation. What was the purpose of the commission . For one thing it was the 250h anniversary of the declaration of the pendants would in 2025 we were to come up with a plan or a method to study to encourage schools to re embrace Americas History it was to be a bipartisan commission. I think it was, not all conservatives. It was unmasked and put together after the 2020 election. The people that chose to serve thats why i served in something i believe in, i dont do things i dont believe in. Had to from President Bush and one from President Obama and so, i have had three political appointments and i have met four President S in my life. Host in the 1776 report that came out following the commission, it is written in thehe book, you write deliberately destructive scholarship scatters the bond that unite all americans. Okay. What was that deliberately destructive scholarship you are referring 1 there . Before i was part of the 1776 commission as part of the 7076 unite the impetus probably behind the 1776 commission as well as put out by the New York times were very concerned inaccuracies in that report that was a racist were very concerned about our children, making sure young people understood americans history with the importance of the independence, we all know our founders were imperfect, people founded this nation because all human beings are imperfect. When he read that documents, stores the heart and emotions of many people. Im sorry, our constitution. When you read those documents that are part of the founding documents of our nation. We are very much united Understanding Declaration of independence. For me its the declaration of independence, it is the constitution thats important i think there are other things that relate to our Nations History including its judeochristian roots of the need to know and understand for. We reference the 1619 project, Nicole Hannah Jones is the founder of that, here is a little bit from her describing it. We argue withh this project that august 1619 as our true founding year. As much as these alabaster men sit all around this Capitol City true Founding Father that is our heritages 400 year the project will of force us to tell a truth of who we are as a nation and who we can be. As we would do so we stop hiding from our sins or confront them and work to make them right. What is your reaction tortious essay . Suite 219 with the date, the year as indentured servants i roughly know the dates, the blacks served along with the white servants, they were freed. Many of them became professionals. They became the backbone of free blacks in america. If you go, out of your black or white. They will probably tell you they are the tent descendents of free blacks. They were people who are of indentured servants. I believe up until 1661, if a slave converted to christianity, they were set free. For 1619 their servitude people were released. Some former indigenous servants, they got slaves themselves. They help people in bondage themselves. There was a periodwa when slavery, out of greed was made permanent. Its a part of our Nations History. The other, the 1619 project ignored they fought against slavery, there were whites that set up schools across theco south educate the blacks on their set up by white. Americas true history is the story of people working together. We have made mistakes in this country, but one thing about america because of our declaration of independence, because of our christian roots we worked very hard to correct those mistakes. I think that is the part of the american story and that is why america became the envy of the world. In your latest book which is a best seller now, black eyes for america critical Race Theory is burning down the house, you write that critical Race Theory is functionally speaking a new religion, what do you mean by that . Critical Race Theory first of all it is a theory that is permeating every institution in america. The people that are pushing that theory, they argue, as you know, pretty much that america at least im not going to talk about the world, there are critical theory but all whites are oppressors, they have racism in their dna. They are born with a Property And Inheritance based on the Skin Color and they have to consciously become anti racist by renouncing a racism. There are lots of things about it but people are supposed to confess their sins just like religion. They are supposed to constantly repeat their sins but there is no redemption. In the christian religion there is redemption you confess your sins one time its not a constant Confession Enof sins. It argues racism is permanent, minorities are permanent victims. It is something the people who are pushing forward strongly believe in it. But what i argue in the book it is a racist, it is on american and goes counter to our Civil Rights laws and constitution. And itit is the civil Rights Issue of our day. I think anyone who understands the law understands is wrong to demean, shame, bully people because of the color of their skin. Does not matter if theyre white, black or asian its wrong Tohe Demean and bully people because of the color of their skin. Not all White People are similarly situated. And not all black people or disadvantage. It cripples our children when they talk about our white children or black children, they are crippled by critical Race Theory as it has been taught and pushed in schools across america. And unfortunately will find it in secular schools as well as religious schools. It has become like a religion. Its something people need to understand fully. That is one of the reasons i wrote the book. But i wanted americans to understand what critical theory is, where it came from, helped attacked our society and how we can fight back against it. I think its very important that americans are seeking solutions and they are uniting across racial, ethnic and political lines, they are uniting against critical Race Theory because they know it is morally wrong. Professor swain is there a conflict in your view with critical Race Theory and heritage . Yes, very much so, very much so. Because i think all racism is sin is the bible talks about it. I am speaking of someone who is a devout christian. It is a problem. I also think it would follow the golden rule to do unto others what you would have them dot unto us that will go a long way in solving our racial ethnic problems. I think we have a problem in america thats racism. I also believe black, white any ethnic group can be reasons is not only White People, i understand thats what the marxists argue thats with the critical race theorists argue, but they are wrong any group can be racist. Host i want to note your 2011 Book Be the people call to reclaim Americas Face and promise. In that book you write people find it surprising that i take offense when i hear national leaders and their speeches with god bless america, why do you take offense to that . Before we go any further with this chat i feel like im stepping on a hot seat. If that were going have a pleasant two hour chat. I take offense Theres Nothing about america right now that god could bless. We have strayed so far from my judeochristian roots when it comes to how wehe treat one another and when it comes tole biblical principles. I think if you actually look at the founding of america and the charters of the 13 colonies, all of them were very much focused onnd christian roots. Up until probably the 1940s it was very clear this was a country that values and principles even the bible was used in some schools to teach children how to read, as just a principles and values of how to treat one another. We have strayed far from that. When you have a nation where abortion, especially the black community 12 to 13 of the population were getting more than 30 set of the abortions in cities like New York, probably washington d. C. And others too were more black babies are being aborted than born alive. When you see theim scientific experiments were they create new creatures by creating human Sperm God bless america as it is today because it is a nation that turned its back on him. And as i read the bible when you asked me what kind of books have impacted me, i said the king james bible. I do read the bible on a regular basis. I believe the United States is cause for Gods Judgment he very well may hav a nation that hates us we can name a lot of nations that hate america. Including those of us who seem to hate our own country. Were not surprise me if america did not fall into the hands of another nation. I do not believe america will stand as america because it is being destroyed from within. Without a shot being fired is been destroyed by its own peoplele products we always ask our in depth guests with their reading reading, some of their favorite books. Carols wayne was of the king james bible, booker t. Washington up from slavery, victor Frankels Man searching for s meaning, followed currently shes raising fault lines a social movement and evangelicals looming catastrophe. What is the book about . He is a southern baptist i happen to be a southern baptist as well. Hes writing about how critical Race Theory has impacted the baptist church. Ive been the largest and conservative protestant groups in america. In 2019 they passed a resolution at the southern Baptist Convention to use criticaly Race Theory Intersection Analogy is analytical tools and Understanding Race in america. A lot about this book, and ive not finished reading it, lets talk about critical Race Theory as a marxist route how it has impacted the baptist denomination, tearing it apart in a lot of ways. I would not be surprised at some point in the future the baptist did not split the way other denominations have. Know where you arere natural . Why my national . Thats a good question. I was a tenured professor at princeton. I end up in nashville. A lot of reasons, Vanderbilt Universityso offered me a full professorship. At that time i was an associate professor at princeton. Also say it was very rare to leave and iv League School to go to vanderbilt for thousand 1998 and at that time vanderbilt was not the worldclass that it is today. Mike told him was going to vanderbilt they said youre going where . Accepted the contract i physically moved to nashville to put vanderbilt on the map are now people dont ask vanderbilt . Or is that out word. And the tennessean wrote in 2017 in will not miss when you retire from vanderbilt i will not miss what american universities have allowed themselves to become. Yes, i did,. Host what did that mean . Guest i took early retirement. The university professor, i couldve taught until is in my 80s or 90s as long so i can make it across campus in myea classroom. I would be allowed to teach. I left because what i saw happening at the university of thought was very t destructive the trigger warning, the insanity i felt was taking place like the inmates are running the prison the adults administrated students demanded and caved quickly. When i started teaching part of my background as being high School Dropout going to and earning five college degrees. Ive been a student founds too much Indoctrination Watch that permeates every sector of the university including i did not like what universities were becoming. I thinkde and many ways they have become a destructive force on society. They are responsible for a lot of the Turmoil Andnd Unrest that we have. I think it is a shame the anti americanism are not many conservatives on campuses now. I was not a conservative i was not a a republican, i was a good democrat, had good common sense. My research got lots of attention ive always ask difficult questions i do have some kind of gifting im able to see things other people do not see. Because i make a connection. When you say what brought me too vanderbilt . I can answer that as a. Christian. At that time i was going through transition. This was after my tenure at princeton. I was on the spiritual journey. And now i would say god ordered by footsteps and god brought me too nashville and. Anderbilt i did not have family in nashville. But i made that decision, i do not regret it, i love nashville. I even ran for mayor. [laughter] Host Carol Swain to win and why did you become a conservative and or republican in your lifetime . Okay, i would say ive been a deep thinker always wanted the wide, the wide, though what this thing about the meaning of life and being a journey. I would say i was always in many ways aee spiritual seeker. After my tenure at princeton i found myself in the situation where i was earning more money than i evermi imagined in my life. Coming from poverty i was in a lot of money. I had obtained early tenure at princeton, which was my goal. It normally takes seven years to get tenure, i set a goal for three. I end up going up for tenure in my third Year End it was awarded in the fourth year. I was a very disillusioned. I decided on this journey that took me through new age religion, eastern religion, whatever it was religion, i studied it. It startedav culminating me having a fullblown christian Conversion Experience. In the baptist tradition they would call it a bornagain experience. What is really interesting is this happened between the time make it happened is i was negotiating it was taking place during the time i was negotiating between vanderbilt and princeton. It was not obvious to a lot of people is going through this transition. But vanderbilt hired me in 1998, i had a christian Diversion Experienceve in 1999. I showed up in nashville in 2000 as a new christian, born again. It is not something i expected or i planned. It happened. As i grew in my faith i became more and more conservative. I think it was a culmination of thingsng that cause me too become conservative. The christian faith and being around people i think shared my value but i think the world changed in crazy ways. When you do have a true religious Conversion Experience could think about and what is important. All of those things happened, they impacted me and made me who i am today. But i did not become a republican right away. I became a devout believer in 1999 2000 while i was at yale. I had earned 4 degrees and i had earned my tenure at princeton. I went back to school and earned a fifth degree at yale. While i was at new haven that is when i a became a devout believer. I contemplate at that time leaving academia which i did not. But 2001 i became independent. I stopped calling myself a democrat and 2009 was when i officially became a republican. In 2008 President Bush appointed me the national endowment to the humanities and the tennessee advisory committee to the u. S. Civil Rights Commission as an independent. Being on the commission as it independent, i had lots of exposure to different types of people. I had exposure to more and more republicans. It was a combination of the Party Platforms. What the republicans stood for, what the democrats stood for that encouragement to make that transition. What has it been like to be a black conservative woman in academia . You know something, i went from being a hotshot to becoming a pariah. There were times that were very difficult because people do treat you as if youve lost your mind or you are the weakest link. You are not smart you are. I think being a black and being a christian and a conservative that all of those things made it difficult in the beginning. But i have reached the Age And Point were i really dont care. For me this is what you get. I find a lot of other people do its not just a White People. I have lots of support in the black community. I may not have support among black elites but i have support among real people. You for references a couple times growing up in rural poverty. What was late bedford like and what was your early life like . I grew up in the country. The house was the first place i lived was basically a two Room Shack my Mother And Stepfather they slept in one of the rooms which would have been the living room. The children slept on the kitchen floor. Later my stepfather built two rooms on the back of the house he is not a good carpenter. Maybe ten years ago i revisited that house. His new addition had collapsed to rubble. But the original two rooms were standing. The house had no indoor plumbing and i notice when i revisited the house as an adult it didnt have anything like Drywall And Cardboard over the planks and wallpaper over top of that. Fake brick siding, a Tin Roof that was leaky at times. That was the first house i remember. We had to carry water from a spring downhill from house and downhill from a cemetery. Irem are also not having enough to eat. Being teased in school because of our close and because of our lunches. Back in those days if you took biscuits to school new did not have sliced bread you were teased because of your lunches. So oftenld my siblings and i would not eat our lunches in schoolat we would eat before school or afterschool because we did not want to be teased for what we were eating. I remember my mother would not sign us up for free lunches. Free lunches were available, free books were available she would not sign us up because she said we did not take charity. I would do my homework in school. Think my older sister did the same thing. There are times when we may have missed. There was a one year we may have missed 80 of 180 school days. We all failed that year. But i can remember missing a lot of school, coming in and still making a or b on a test. What i think about my mother, she is very intelligent. She easily could have gone to college if circumstances would have allowed that. She had polio and thats one reason she did not finish high school. She was very intelligent, so was my grandmother. And part of my family. I grew up in that kind of poverty and in circumstances in the winter when it snowed, stayed home because we did note snowshoes. I think the year we missed 80 days of 180 was the winter when there was a deep snow and we stayed at home until melted. It melted in the spring. Host you mentioned in our preshow chat your mother is 91. Andvi living with you and national. Yes she lives with me at least ten years may be longer. Seven of my siblings are alive. Pretty much i was the one that got out of poverty. I can tell you as a child i was different, my mother said i was different. I had a sense of urgency. I felt like there something i was supposed to do. I endedav up getting married at 16, having my first child at 17 going through a period of deep depression, suicide gestures and had people come into my life you changed my life. I think about where i was and where i am today, it is a miracle and i do believe in god. I had no idea i would ever go to college. I was painfullynf shy. Anytime i was at princeton at the option to be on good morning america, onene of those shows. I turned to dan because i was afraid but one i wrote the new white nationalism in america, Challenge Integration i felt that book was so important i had to talk about it. I had to share the ideas. Thats when i started forcing myself for immediate training and the rest is history. I had a painful shyness in some of the shyness left me after had the christian ererConversion Experience. After that i really focus on the fact it didnt matter people laughed at me if they thought it was or crazy, the only person i had to please is god. I feel that way today. I realize there are probably people who will be very hostile, i love people, i Love America but i dont care what you think of me. I do the best i can to be a good person and to do it i think would help others. Host this is a story you shared with author toni morrison, as a child i often escape into my own fantasy w world. In my world i was not black, i was not poor, and i was not female. The reaction to that story . [laughter] guest she said she thought that was amazing or something like that. Even as a child you have the book in front of you, whatever i said in the book is what she said. [laughter] she said you knew enough to want to be the best you could be in america. That is what shehe said. [laughter] [laughter] Host And Sheet mean a white male . I guess she thought in a sense of being privileged. My childhood fantasies it was like okay, as a child i read mad magazine i read richie rich. Sy and so in my Fantasy World i was kindik of like richie rich and so i would be in all sorts of situations. I was in control of my narrative. That is sort of how i got through a lot of the situations. Once i got into my late teens and got married and that this is weird, i should not be doing this. So i forced myself to stop. The older me can see all of the reasons why some Reason Something cannot work. Do not see myself as handicap because i was a black i was a woman i come from poverty. They all felt had be rich to go to college but i did not know that people who were smart and black and all these opportunity and scholarships. I didnt know about these things until i learned about it later. Came into my life and encourage me did not lookth like me. They were white they encourage me. I found at the black schools theres less interest in me because i was notot the teachers daughter, i was on the doctors daughter, i came from poverty. Offer a helping hand as you can see im dark skinned. The lighter your skin is in america, the better you do. That prejudice extends in the black community to give an enormous advantages. That is just the way it is. Host Carolol Swain has a masters in political science from virginia polytechnic instituteal, political science from unc chapel hill, master of studies in law from guilt law school. Prior to all of that you got a Ba Degree in criminal justice from Roanoke College. Why criminal justice . And when did you veer off that . You also missed probably my most important degree which is an associate degree in business, Business Merchandising i can tell you initially i was interested in art. I have art talent. I reason i signed up for a Rowing Class and have done some painting. Thought she was in the position to give me advice. And so being practical pointing to be an art major as much as business which is difficult. Excuse me, that i would have gotten had i attended high school. I had a high School Equivalency before enter the Community College but i graduated probably with a gpa of 2. 8 or something like that, he made the Deans List a couple of times. I said i i made the Deans List when i didnt. I got that bachelors in criminal justice because, when i applied for jobs is applying for job as a Store Manager is holding it a fouryear degree. And so i decided okay i need it for your degree i also need to be able to distinguish myself. Because i had filled out enough job applications were i felt places that i could distinguish myself if i had awards, honors and things put in place. Made a decision i needed to get another degree. I needed to be an honor student. He went to the College Catalog i chose the field not do well is not too heavily mathematic. Termination of political science, sociology, and psychologys work at the Community College labor at the same time 40 hours a week. I went full time i worked weekends at the Community College library. I read and purchase books on how to make as in college, how to take objective tests how to take essay exams. As you know i graduated Magna Cum Laude and i won the prize for the highest cpa in criminal justice. I started a scholarship and as it Roanoke College for minorities the Constance J Hamilton scholarship. I worked full time, i was a mother, sometimes having to take my children to work with me and went school time. Started a scholarship and the scholarship is still there. Criminal justice was chosen because it is a field i thought i would do wellin. Hows that for honesty . I agree with the math thing. Well, welcome to and depth, thank you for joining us here on book tv. This is our monthly indepth program with one author into her body of work. This month is Professor And Author doctor Carol Swain. She started writing books and getting them published in 1993 with black faces in black interest the representation of africanamericans in congress. Her next book came out in 2000 to the new white nationalism in america. Debating immigration came out ineo 2007, the call to reclaim Americas Faithai and promise in 2011, abduction a liberalism steals our childrens hearts in 2016, came out she is a coauthor of the 1776 report which came out in 2021. As a black eye for america, how critical Race Theory is burning down the house, currently a bestseller. We have been talking for about 45 minutes and now it is your turn to join the conversation pretty welcome your questions and comments 202 7488201. If you live in the mountain and pacific time zone. Again that is for Text Messages only. Now if you cannot get on the phone lines and you want to send a comment via social media or on instagram, facebook, Twitter Booktv is what you need to remember for that. Can also say something there . Host yes, maam. Guest i want the viewers to know is an edited book on affirmative action that i did, then that was contemporary forces of white nationalism that was edited. Weve got a new book coming out on countercultural living but jesus had to say about Race And Ethnicity. An Materialism Valve my first christian book. Thats countercultural living what jesus has to say about life, marriage, gender, materialism coming out later this year or next year . Later this month. I think the Release Date might be b september 13. Argues selfpublishing that like you did black eye for america . No, i was going to be published by renew. Org. Im working on a new book. I have a company called unity ttraining solutions. Com. I am working on another book about the birth of Unity Training. How i came up with most of the idea. At this stage in my life, thinking about peoples time and needs im writing shorter books. And im writing that more quickly. [laughter] host what was it like to self publish black eye . I had an expert guiding me through the process. Mianyone that publish an academic book, maybe not even an academic book, know the authors get lousy deals. They do not invest that much in marketing the book. You do not own your own copyright. I had a bad experience with one of my books and i made the decision i wanted to own the copyright to my material. That is part of why i self publish. At some point i will write my memoir, i might use a traditional publisher. But i really do not see the advantage of using anyone anymore. Who knowe experts how to do the cover design, know how to take it to the process. There are companies like Ingram Sparkle they can get your book and all of the major bookstores and on amazon. So i do not see the need to have a traditional publisher. Of course if i were an assistant professors somewhere i would have have a traditional publisher. I have published at cambridge press, harvard press, other major process. I do not need to prove anything. What you mean when youre virtually new white nationalism . The book that came out in 2002 what does that Phrase Mean . At one time i thought that was the t most important Book Id written my Life Andtt maybe it was. Black eye for america i now think that is the most important book. It is certainly the only one thats a big salad for the new white nationalism did well. I think the publisher titled the book, i wanted to have a different title. But what was new of white nationalism as it was not the old white supremacy, neonazi and all of these things people were focusing on. When theyre talking about white and white extremism, they tried out the klansman with the missing teeth and the beer gut. A person that cannot string together three words for a sentence. All of these ignorant people are not capable of doing anything. I was interested in people that were putting forth a different kind of argument. Was the impetus for the book, there were some highprofile hate crimes. People went out and shot and killed people of other races. It wasnt today at the level it was happening again. Theres a young white college Persons Mother was a realtor and his father was ath Doctor Or Something like that. He went to college and was radicalized by something called the World Church of the Crew Reader which was a neopagan religion. He went out and shot, i think he killed two people but he shotot at 11 and then committed suicide. That is what got me interested in the book. And i commissioned interviews with people that seem to be leaders of white nationalist organizations highprofile individuals. I had a white interviewer. That is what got me interested in it. Was there were conditions i felt were converging at that point in american history that wouldhe create a devils brew for unrest. Li found the language of the political left, the multiculturalism, the politics, it provided an argument really for all groups including whites to self identify by race, to organize. The problem with the identity politics in the multiculturalism, but saying every group needed to organize, needed to focus on uttheir history, needed to do these things but not White People. There was a double standard that i knew would be problematic for young people. And so i felt like the new white nationalism that we needed to be concerned about was more intellectual, it was not one that was necessarily in violence. It was very budget focused on double standards. And on perceptions of violation of Civil Rights. When i look at what is taking Place Today in america, i think very much about that book. I think about the warning and the conclusion of the book was we needed to move away from identity politics towards the identity it was not a good for us and not look at the hole. We are all americans is that multi ethnic multiracial nation that will not work if everyone is only trying to advance her own group interest. Lets take some calls for carols swing with talk to glenn, Yoram Book tv. Caller thank you all very much. I am a big admirer of the professor. I want to make a comment first i think she is exactly right about america destroying itself on the inside i am surprised these muslim groups like Al Qaeda and isis have not caught on and a big way. They probably have people taking a knee now. Anyway, my question is about afghanistan. Did the professor thought there any lessons that can be learned from our defeat their and it is a defeat, no one should fold themselves about that. Alsoso does she think we have a moral obligation to take in a Bigg Number of afghan refugees now . Glenn thank you, Karol Anything there you want to address . I am just talking because im not an expert on foreign policy. But with afghanistan i dont think it had to happen the way it did. I think it is a disgrace that we left americans behind. In america we are supposed to take care of our own. If we were traveling overseas and people are traveling all the time as an american i will be crushed by the whole idea they are not going to rescue me. It was a disgrace what was done there. At the biden administration was being advised by islam us, they left a billions of dollars of equipment behind we have left behind nation as a whole is quite evil they are not taking in the right refugees . The reports believed there afghan men bringing in child brides just so young men they can come into the u. S. , we are opening up the floodgates to Terrorism Nothing wrong with taking refugees for the right reasons. I think the islam us have a lot of influence over the u. S. And politicians. I think what we did was terrible, horrible. We have lost respect around the world i do not have to know how we would regain it. It troubles me we have done this horrible thing. Dewayne is in Greenfield West virginia. Dwayne you are on with author Carol Swain. The first comment i would like to make, you said you were dark skinned. I dont see any skin on you i see the glory of god all over you. I want to thank youor for your life, thank your mother from me for your life. When you started talking about religious experiences, they hair on my legs, my arms, on the back of my neck stood up the whole time youre talking. I consider you a sister in christ. Guest thank you t so much i can save you the a brother in christ theres one race he says there are two races of men, the race of decent men and the indecent. There are decent men and an decent men theres only one race the human race. If we would show some Love And Respect to one another we would be able to get along. We would not have these problems in america that have been manufactured by people that hate america. That goes back to Carol Swains favorite Book List the king james bible. Victor Frankel Man search for meaning in the alchemists. Cornelius alexander go ahead with your question or comment. Want to thank Cspan2 God bless everybody. I hope you do a Book Tour and stuff i am in Alexandria Louisiana we have a bible College Name Louisiana college. I think you would be a great guest to have to talk about your book and everything. I dont know if youre going to do a Book Tour or anything like that. I served in the military as m a military Police Officer. Im glad theyre asking about afghanistan and stuff. I did not serve and the or ice we hope you do a Book Tour. Weve got thank you. It do you do Book Tours do enjoy them . I self published my book so i do not have a publicist. People see me on tv, i come when they call me. He set cspan, msnbc, any of those places you contacted me. I always say yes. I think we need to do more conversing with one another. I think the solution to our problem likely would talk to one another there would be greater understanding and less hatred. Texas please go ahead. Thank you for the show. I believe in the human race. I believe in the Book B of hebrews new text to enter and T Test the Lord God run the race of life with the Perseverance And Witness to cheer us on. How we live our life, it is a rolling number. 1619 is more of an english, if we base things on slavery and the expansion of it was based on English Colonies were as the spaniards and the french were different in the sense of catholicism, religion and culture. Let me ask you a question about the issues of, we talk about america being great. Do you think we are being deprived or it lacked the incentive to be multilingual if we are going to be a great nation . Guest multilingual . We are multi cultured, we are a multicultural Melting Pot should and are languishing more than just english . It was americanized english, the websters dictionary. Guest heres what i think. I think a nation, culture, all those things that unite us, it is important have a common language so you can communicate. I have been in foreign countries where he did not know the language. I remember, i was in the Tokyo Airport in great pain with my. Without an interpreter i had to go to a pharmacy in the airport and use my hand and gestures and stuff like that to get medicine. I would hate to imagine what it would be like to be in a country where you did not speak english. I think its important for americanss if theyre interested to know other languages, but i also think to hold a nation together you need a common language that has to have a common set of values. But also the history buried with 1619 project, noted historian on the political left had pointed out the in accuracy. Some of them have beend corrected. The whole idea that flawed project with more than 4500 schools, i find it very troublingnd. As do i find teaching young people to hate america. Really to hate each other. Children do not naturally think in terms of race. When they are playing together theyre playingge with their friends, theyre playing with billy, sally, whatever. Whatever the name is. They are not thinking my black friend or my white friend. Its only later they get racialized. The critical Race Theory agenda argues babies as much as six months can be racist. And young people need to be taught to see race. I would argue theres one race, the human race. We should not be focusing on the differences, we should be focusing on common humanity. So he went too post on her facebook page, when i was a young man, segregation existed. It always worked to bridge that gap having close friends for many ethnic groups. I am fully convinced systemic racism does not exist in america. Although it is clear a small minority would like to create this division. Guest do you know something . I totally was born in 1954. That was the board of education segregation case, that ended the sperm and in public schools throughout america and virginia. I was born in 54 and late 68 i watch the Civil Rights movement take place. I watch the signing the 1964 Civil Rights act, the 1965 voting Rights Act, the 1968 open act and i watch systemic racism in America Collapse under the weight of the laws that are equal under the law. The discrimination and prejudice that still exist in america and in the world because of individual discrimination and prejudice. We h do not have systemic racism in america even though we have people trying to bring back. And for the viewers that may describe themselves as progressives,ri what progressives are doing are re segregating our children at colleges and universities separate dorms, separate classes sections, separate graduations, separatism. There are some public schools that are separate in the black kids. I was part of what the Civil Rights movement fought against. I would encourage people, if you do not agree with that and weve already made a decision about what kind of nation we are. When we passed the Civil Rights act and the Amendment Need to push back against it. This cuts acros racial, ethnic, partisan lines. We do not need to bed divided. This is on so many levels, its also illegal and unconstitutional. My new book, black eye for america how critical Race Theory is burning down the house, it has two chapters on how to push back. We have to push back. I believe critical Race Theory in all this stuff is taking place now will collapse in the next couple ofan years because it is illegal and unconstitutional. Its hurting her children. Its hurting all of our children. His telling of black children tells in their victims. You look at my story i am successful i did not see myselfin as handicap because i was black, poor, a woman and at one point a single mother. All of the things i couldve used as excuses. I believed in the american dream i worked hard. As a consequence of minnows overcome the circumstances of my birth, be the person i am todaya , a lot of people poured into my life and they were not all people that look like me. Host if you cannot get on the phone lines or mind you can text a message into author Karol Swing 202 7488903. Again that is just for Text Messages include your first name and your city. Fortune is calling in from New York city, good afternoon. Good afternoon sir. Listening to Doctor Swain i agree she sounds very impressive. But there needs to be some clarifications made based on certain comments she made. First she said in the 50s systemic racism existed and in 2021 itt no longer does. I disagree with that fact. With her facts. We do have systemic racism in this country. And the fact is you have black men still being targeted by police departments. You havee black men have not given up based on the qualifications. This goes for black men as well. I understand your agency and you pull up by your bootstraps and the story of your life which is great. Bute not everyone is going to have a similar ability. But if we have a system where everyone can do something based on his or her Godgiven Ability that should not be an issue. The Issue Wesu are facing is just that once you are a certain color, you are targeted by certain institutions. Host before we hear from. Guest can let me answer . Swso he went before we hear from Doctor Swain tells the bit about. Caller im actually History Teacher at a public high school. I understand this country, we can go back and forth on the dates. The mere fact is in this country is racism, racism, i would like to know what is your perspective on the form of racism. We what we got the point thank you so much. Guest first of all, i sympathize with the caller and his perspective. I do have two sons, two adult sons, one is 50 and the other one is 47. So i raised my children. So i am familiar. Plus im probably telling everyone more than they need to know. I have been married twice to black men. I know the perspective he articulates. We do not have to agree on everything. And i think it is important to look at, as far as the police are concerned, i think if you actually look at the data, there are certainly fewer cases of black men being shot by white Police Officers today. Im not trying but this year. If you look at the historical data, things have improved and they approved a long time ago. What happens often with the media is they do take the case. They play it over, over, and over again based on a small bit of information. It inflames the passion. I think in the black community we do have a lot of problems. All of those problems are not related to racism. Some are related to peoples choices, their circumstances. We do have a right and an ability to choose. If you look at the black crime rate in the blackck on black commiserationth rates, there are problems in the black community but cause them to have more interactions with police than they should. I think for thehe black community to thrive in so many ways, but we have to focus on changing some of the behaviors in our own community. We have to take some responsibility. White people cannot make things equal when there are other factors involved. We look at disparities when it comes to grades in learning, academic success. There are studies that show many times that black children spend the least amountpe of time studying of any group. That includes the middleclass blacks. Asian side of the most, and then whites, and then it goes down with blacks setting the least amount of time. If you look at the crime rate especially the black on black crime rate that is shameful. I dont think you canu always blame other people. There is always been poverty and people like me. I do not consider myself the exception. I did not say pulled myself up by my bootstraps. Theres a lot of people who help me on the way. There are many helping hands. I was willing to work hard i did not have anyone out there telling me i was a victim and i could not do something because of the color of my skin. Or ther fact i was a woman or poor. I believe in the american dream and i did not have people telling me the negative messages that black children received today. They are victims and racism is permanence, police hate them and are out to get them. I note many Police Officers and they have stories just like i have a story about why they became a Police Officer. And many cases these are people called into the profession. Maybe as a child they had their own encounter with the Police Officer who rescued them. These are human beings. Like anyny profession, you might have people should not be units. But the vast majority of Police Officers are caring, hloving human beings that are doing a job that we need them to do. It is so unfortunate that we have this narrative that is anti police. That is focused so much on the negativity because it is not constructive for our society. That is pretty much what i have to say about that. I respect with the caller has to t say. I disagree with him and i believe the black community, of which i am a part of, that we have to do more for ourselves. I dont believe this Equity Thing we have equal outcomes from unequal effort. I believe in equal opportunity. That is what i expense of the equalis opportunity. I made decision to study to become an honor student. I worked hard, i did not go to the parties. I made decisions on other people mightve been out playing on vacation, i was hitting the books. I work too i was in college. I worked as a sales clerk, i worke in a nursing home, i worked in a garment factory, i sold things from door to door. I am notha some person who is not worked menial jobs. I know the possibilities that america offers. Theres never been a better time to be black in america. I believe people should stop complaining, roll up their sleeves and start working. We havell never had it better. I really hate critical Race Theory. The lies it is telling our children and how im telling everyone it is destroying america. We are destroying it from within with our negative anti american messages. Host and she is calling in from cincinnati, good afternoon. Caller hi ms. Swain. I just want to say that you have just lifted my Spirits Today in a huge way. Guest thank you. Caller do know what . I was raised to believe i was less than. That feeling, less than, took me too places i dont ever want toto go again, right . So, i believed in being black was bad. Because that is what i was taught. That i would never be anything more than just that. I fed into that for a very, very, very long time. I believe that what has to happen in the black community has we do have to get together and have some uncomfortable conversations about what is going on in our community. We have to take that upon ourselves to do just that. And at some point you have got to put the stick down, stop beating yourself up and move forward. Yourest going to be stuck. I wasi stuck for a long time and i dont ever want to feel that hopelessness and that fear that never again. Both of my kids went to college. Both ofco my kids are doing really, really well. It is because we didnt. You have to break the Cycle Atin some point. The mentality. Guest thank you. You are so right. I can tell you about myself, we have siblings siblings say things. I was called the fish eyes and frankenstein, i have a scar coming down here. I thought i waswo the ugliest person in the world until he got into my early 20s and people started saying you are attractive. When i married i did not marry for love. I was so thrilled anyone would have me because my selfesteem was so low. Those were things that affected the choices i made. But, i dont know that it was about beingrt black. I certainly felt awkward, unattractive, just the negativity. I made bad choices two. What next call for Carol Swain comes from lily in stevensville, maryland. Billy please go ahead. Caller yes, i just want to say thank you so much for just you being you, your life and all that you have accomplished. Your courage in doing what you felt was right regardless of the feedback you got where the abusive language, the things people said about you, when you became a believer. And did what you thought was right there. I wanted to also say, to me a lot of water many of our problems in the country it seems like there labeled as race. But i can just speak for myself, i feel close tose people based on our spiritual beliefs. It doesnt matter at all what color somewhat is, it is just irrelevant. Or even our background. My background is very different than yours. But i relate to all of it because there are just some commonalities there. Also, im still angry about afghanistan and the way that has been handled. It seems to me through it or not talk about afghanistan today, we appreciate your comments. Anything you want to address from earlier comments . We do just that i appreciate the young ladies call. I understand what she says about faith. I think a lot of our problems relate to social economics, the social class. Because when i i was working in those menial jobs i was working alongside for weitzen. We wanted that 10 cents or 25cent an hour raise. We all wanted it, we all needed it, we all needed it, will want to better for our children. I go back to one race, the human race. Within christianity, if it works the way its supposed to work we are all brothers and sisters in Christ And Wewe love one another. My relationship with people of other races i dont see that race i just see my friends. I wish people could love one another and not be so caught up on external things and things that dont really matter. I just wish people would realize there is an agenda behind dividing us. Its part of what is destroying america. Host in 2016 carolk Swains Book Objection how liberalism steals our childrens hearts and minds camean out. In that book she rateswo the academic world as defined by cultural relativism. What is cultural relativism . It sort of ties into again, this is part of what post modernism, cultural marxism, all of these feed into critical theory. But, there is no absolute truth. All cultures are the same. And so there is no right and wrong. That is part of the message you get at universities and the culture of relativism. At one time the political left there were no absolute truths. Now they seem to have identified the absolute truth. And in many ways have become mike have their own religion going on. They deciden who is in, who is out, who is to be shamed, who is to be bullied, who is to be. Anceled ouwe have not talked about this but i would say i was canceled because of an opinion i expressed. It strayed so far from the whole idea of america being a nation where you have some freedom. Our first Amendment Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of association. There are freed people who would totally up and and destroy our constitution. And so we are regressing as a nation and as apl people. I think that with abduction, we wrote that book its coauthored with the man who has been a pastor because we resaw so many young people are raising christians homes and families that went w off to a secular college. Not just secular colleges could be a christian college, by thanksgiving they were questioning their faith. By christian they are urgent Christmas Theyy were atheist. With the political left they have aney agenda. Secularism and atheism operate just like a religion. We want parents to know what their children would encounter when they went off to school. Also what was taking place in our public Schools Event K12 with the sexual agenda and various things that children were being exposed to that many parents were not aware of. Host is a Text Message for you, my name is alan. What is your opinion of the new laws restricting access to voting in texas and georgia among others . Guest i dont see new laws restricting access to voting. I think the voting Rights Act and its various extensions because it was first enacted in 1965, it has been extended many times. The voting Rights Act was to remove barriers to voting. There are no Barriers Today to voting. The stuff now with the ballot harvesting the supreme court has ruled against her people were sent absentee ballots that they did not request. I know some relatives, in virginia,ve who never voted, people showed up at their door. Two or three people with the ballots pretty much demanding these people vote, which they did. Not whole thing, this is how a democratic republic is supposed to operate. And so we need ballot integrity. I think it is problematic to have daysha and days where people can turn and ballots without really checks on identification. I think this should be national identification. That is not a problem for americans because you cannot live in this nation without having identification. If you are on public assistance you have to have identification to be able to sign up to get a checkup. If you are on social security you have to have identification. Problem. A i dont see this. I see the democratic party, i hate to be partisan, but this divides parties. Think the democratic party has an agenda they are using racial and ethnic minorities, in particular black people to advance their ownwn agendas. And this whole thing about voting rights being impeded, voting rights are not being impeded. But they are trying to do is take away each states ability to govern its own voting laws and to nationalize that. That is not in the interest for the federal government to have more power. Soso in Georgia And Various States there are things that in this last election. There are documented election irregularities that were put in place because of covid. I think those measures that were allowed because of the Covid Pandemic they should not be allowed in 2022. Even though i think there is a lot of people who would like to bring back those restrictions. They would like to use covid again. Host karol you mentioned being canceled, what happened . Guest it is a long story, how much more time do we have . Host we have 35 minutes left. Guest okay. I have always been considered a provocative thinker. I have always been transparent. If i try not to be transparent it does not work. I was born transparent. But january 15, 2015. This was after the Shirley Hip to attack in franch i believe happened o january 7, 2015. I wrote an Opinion Piece that criticized islam. I said that islam is not like other religions, it posed a threat too us. I talked about the need for muslims to understand our constitution and our way off life. That set off a firestorm. Nothing that ive ever done in my life was as controversial as that. The day after the newspaper published the article in the tennessean, i knew life is i had known in thee past was ove. It resulted in protests of me. I was called a bigot and a hater. I was harassed for more than a year. And it was a factor in my making a decision to leave academia. I had people lie to me, they were protested deemed their student protests. They were not my students they were not students would ever taken classesas for me. There students from other universe acrosss the country that did a change. Org petition. They had a petition to have me fired. Then they really shehe was tenurere you cannot fire her. Then they want to be suspended and really shes tenured you cannot do that. Then they wanted me too be forced to go through mandatory sensitivity training. They found out they could not do that. But it was a very stressful. In my life. But i found myself labeled, harass, marginalize, called all sorts ofs names. It was very hurtful. And two years later i made the decision to take early retirement. A lot of that had to do with, i did not want to be in a stressful environment. And at my age im thinking i cannot be do best work under the circumstances. This is not where i need to be. So i struck out on my own and i started two businesses, Carol Swain enterprises, Unity Training solutions. And i have a nonprofit, 5o1c3 pretty much im out there in the world sharing my views. And i say my classroom is the world. Welcome to my classroom. My classroom is the world. Through Youtube Videos and various things ive been doing ive reached over 77 million people. Far more people than i could have reached in a university classroom. And so, for those people who were trying to cancel me, and to end my influence by thpressuring me, they actually gave me a bigger platform. In fact the more people who attacked me, the more followers i picked up on social media. So please attack me, attack me, attacked me some more. Host we have 30 minutes left in our conversation here on book tv, nick is in monroe, New Jersey go ahead nick. Caller yes, professor thank you for your work here it is really appreciated. I see that you have much in common with other black conservatives like shelby steele, and others. I guess i make an assumption you collaborate and support each other. Now, i wonder with all of that work, and from my perspective i think youre having an enormous impact on conservatives who defined themselves as conservatives. I am wondering if you are having an impact, and your view, on the black community at large . And to move some of the black committee towards a more conservative point of view . in 2019 and i made it a point to campaign in the black community. In 2019 my office was set up in a historically black area. And i greatly got to know people, they got to know me. I had a great experience and i came in number two for selections, number three the second iat was grossly outspenty the other candidates. Nashville is a city that has never had a republican mayor. Ine ran as a republican, but i d gosome democrats endorse me. And it was a great experience. But now im working some with lexus, and thats the organization that started. They have a foundation, and ive been to the rallies and i do a little short segment for them, a show called against all odds, where i talk about my life and experiences. I had met just scores of young black and hispanic conservatives. Someme of them became conservate because they watched one of my videos they saw me somewhere. So i haveav an army of young people, and then i would say across every Race And Ethnicity who support me, who follow me. Some of them tell me i wish you were my Mother Or Grandmother or you remind me of my Mother Or Grandmother and thats okay. I dont mind being reminded, reminding them of their grandmother but i am making an impact with younger people, and i think that we can do better in america and it goes back to us and how we treat each other and the humanity in all individuals and doing unto others as we would have them do unto us. The Inclusion Training and the focus on the critical Race Theoryry and marxism that will t bring about racial reconciliation. For the racial reconciliation to occur, you have to have people working together across racial and ethnic lines. Ait cannot be an unequal relationship where one group is expected to do all the work and the other group is expected to receive. You have to work as equal partners and when it comes to the black community, one of the books i talked about as having impacted my life is booker t. Washington up from slavery thats a book that i read as a child and i believe that it was a factor in my quest for education. Booker t. Washington came out of slavery and was able to get an education because he wanted an education. He worked very harded on his education and became the founder of Tuskegee University in alabama. And i think that a lot of young repeople were talking about systemic racism and complaining about what they cant do because they need to read booker t. Washington up from slavery. When we talk about black Wall Street and the racism of White People, we need to talk about the fact that black Wall Street was established and created less than 60 years after slavery ended and so these were blacks that didnt get government loans and setasides but they were able to build a community and a city, a part of town that was the envy of the area and so the whites that were involved in burning down Wall Street, there was a lot of jealousy involved. There was black success not based on government loans and handouts. Host whats your advice for somebody that wants to run for office . I think they need to sit down and learn why they want to run for office. We have too many people that want to run for office. I think we need statesmen. We need people who are not running because they want the power, they want to go to congress and stay in office. We need people willing to make a eysacrifice. That they have something going for themselves, that they are willing to stepll away from a Profession Or Step away from something to pour themselves into the nation and into the betterment of everyone and that they are willing to lose all this if they are called to do something thats unpopular but is the right thing. We havee too many people that ae there for themselves and so if you want to run for office, make sure that you know why you want to run for office. Is it about you or someone else, the nation as a whole that too many people in both political parties that should not be inou power. Host would you do it again . Guest who, me . Host yes maam. Guest i dont think im cold to run for office. God called on me to hold politicians accountable. If i were appointed, if someone approached me about an appointment, i would have to weigh it very seriously. I would pray about it. And ive learned to say never say never. If youe asked me five years ago would i ever run for office, much less mayor, like me run for mayor, maybe i would consider running for the senate or something, but mayor, no i would say no. I would tell you im not called to run for office and yet i did so ive learned never to say never, but its not something that i think i could do and i would have more influence doing the things im doing right now. Host mount vernon, New York. Go ahead. You are on. Caller wonderful. Listen, i am a 81. My wife and i have been married 56 years. Guest congratulations. Caller we stepped foot in every state and i dont know how many countries. I was in the military for 26 years so we both have retired now and weve done a lot about the status of the nation in general. So much involves how children are raised. Need to have two parents and the family. Thats Number N one. Hopefully the gentleman if not the wife also are working. And so, i think my faith as a christian whenen i look back ony life is so key in terms of living a clean the sensible life and so when we dont have two parents and the family and we dont teach childrennd the good things we dont lie, we dont steal, all those things and so so many of our kids dont have that opportunity to know that thats the way that one should live. Host melvin, thank you for your comment. Guest all this focus on systemic racism and equity, the research shows a young person born in poverty if they finish high school, if they get a job, if they wait until they have their first child, they are not likely to be poor. Any household that singleparent headed by a woman or by a man that is a single parent, they are going to be poor. And a lot of the problems do stem from poverty and the fact that you have broken homes. Yet we have people that argue that the traditional family that thats a european idea. That hard work is a european idea. That standard english is racist, that planning for the future is racist. Allth of that dooms people to failure because any of us whove been successful, and im sure among the viewers we have a lot of successful people and people in professions know that you have to get to places on time and you have to learn math and standard english and there are so many things with the moral background and the fiber of the values. Those things are important. They dont belong to White People. They belong to all people. Host our guest on booktv. She is the author of these rebooks, black faces black interest the representation of africanamericans in congress which came out in 1993. The new white nationalism in america, 2002, debating immigration in zero seven and the people called to reclaim Americas Faith and promise came out in 2011. Abduction, how liberalism steals our childrens hearts and minds in 2016. The 1776 report and black eye for america how the critical Race Theory is burning down the house, both came out this year and she has another book coming out shortly this year. Counselor cultural living, what jesus has to say about life, marriage, race, gender and materialism. On your twitterl feed it says e the people is your trademark brand. Guest it is a call to we the people in the preamble of the constitution to stand up and be the people who reclaim the nation and the world. When i wrote the book i was concerned about our country and that was the first book where i really focused on communicating with of the american people rather than with my colleagues. And so, my leader books have been books that were not written for and academic audience with the exception of debating immigration so the two volumes, 2007 and 2018, those are essays. But the new books were written for the american people. I want to take us back to our judeochristian roots and founding documents that i think every american should read and when i say every american im talking about people that are here in america that want to be part of the culture and that would include the declaration of independence, the constitution and the ten commandments in the bible because the ten commandments have influenced american laws and values across the nation. Roso understand in america you have to understand the documents that people found important and in the book we the people, theres a chapter on americas founding. And i deal with different sides of the issues and citations. There is a Book By the godless constitution that points out God Isnt mentioned in the constitution and that was done not because the people were trying to keep religion out of thatthey considered religion sad and sosa there was a conscious decision not to have a religious document when they addressed the constitution. But i think every american needs to read those documents and understand what it means because those documents led Thela Groundwork for everything that happened subsequently being given the right to vote, women being given the right to vote, the Civil Rights act that have fallen. All of that has come out of who we are as a people and in america we have made lots of mistakes, but we have always tried to remedy the mistakes. The nation became the envy of the world. I feel like the america that i loved as a child that motivated me to reach for the american dream that that nation no longer exists, and i see that america is teetering on the edge of a precipice and we could fall to china, iran, russia. Hostile nations because we turned our back on god, we are a godless nation. We deserve judgment, and thats why god bless america i hate when it comes out of the lives of people who are destroying america. Host another text from terry in las vegas. I says imfi still trying to figue out how math is racist. [laughter] guest me to. And you think about the racism behind, and this was a bill gates funded study of mathematics. The young children that are being taught that its racist and the Teacher Shouldnt Demand right answers for minority students show those Students Cant grow up to be mathematicians, scientists, doctors, pharmacists, nurses any more that you require a mask because some of them require someme masks and i as a Person O struggled with masks i steal have to understand i take took remedial math and Community College and i had to get through those courses and my first book i have multiple regressions because i had to learn it to get my phd. It was like i learned what i had to learn and then i forgot it but i had to learn it to get through school. Host april is calling in from santa monica, california. Good afternoon, april. Caller hi. First, i would like to say i agree with the professor that we are one human race. Thats why i would like to refer to things as racially different and racially constructed because we are all one race. That said, this country that we live and that is going through what its going through was indeed founded onmy the mess of white supremacy, and i dont understand how teaching that is teaching hate. Its just teaching the truth. I am married to a white man. I love my white brothers and sisters and i want us all to do better and that is why i think its important that of the supremacy be looked at in full sunlight and that we acknowledge the fact that within the documents, the founding documents, the constitution, black people were told to be three fifths of humans. All of the wonderful things that came out of the constitution amendment, not the original, but the amendment, these were all things that had to be fought for and i daresay no one thinks that women that fought for years for the right to vote hated men. They just also wanted to be at the table with the men. Guest let me tell you something. I appreciate the call, but the three Fifths Clause of the constitution, you really need to look that up because that is a false narrative when the constitution wasas ratified, it had nothing to dot with black people being three fifths of a human being. It had to do with representation in congress. Andco it was the nonslaveholdig northern states that work for the compromise because during that time, each state was awarded a representative per 30,000 person. And in the south, they had 600,000 slaves. They were pushing for that population. The North Wouldnt allow us to do that to count them as whole people because it would have given them more representatives in congress. En and so with the battle over how many representatives they were going to get in congress, so the people that actually pushedat fr the three Fifths Clause, they were the abolitionists. And so, Thats Something that you can look up even wikipedia gets that one right. And so, that bothers me. Like i was taught like you heard and i heard educated people, some of them with law degrees repeating what is a false narrative easily refuted by just going to the research. So being a white supremacist country. In 1776 with a declaration of independence that is when the nation that we call america, the United States of america was founded. 1776. 1619 then we were a british colony and the initial what we call slavery was a curse of Indenture Ship where people were released after seven years and many of those people whove been indentured servants, they themselves got indentured servants, so they got slaves and a slavery became permanent much later and it was agreed to become permanent. And there were always free blacks in america that came here, you know, through the african Slave Trade that came here through that, but there were free blacks. Many of them held slaves themselves. So we want to talk about slavery we m need to talk about the fact that native americans as well as white and black held slaves and so slavery is a stain on all america, not just on one group. Host victory in canoga park california, please go ahead with your question or comment. Caller thank you very much. Ive been following you from your interview with booker t. Washington. My first question [inaudible] when did you become number two, ive noticed with intellectuals like you in the black community that are [inaudible] they dont need to believe in the system of marxist racism. [inaudible] guest i couldnt understand the questions clearly. What was the second question . The second is black conservatives are academic scholars are proud of the u. S. In his view while democrats and leftists are notot so much that was the point of view. Guest i stated earlier in the program that i had a christian Conversion Experience late 1990, 1999, 2000 i became a devised christian believer. And as i grew in my face, i became very uncomfortable with the democratic party. And if you are a christian and you read the platforms of the political parties, they are very clear and very different and what they stand for. So, i became uncomfortable with the platform and some things that democratic candidates for advocating, but i wasnt ready to become a republican. I became an independent and i was an independent up until 2009. In 2008, President Bush appointed me to the national endowment to the humanities and to the tennessee advisory committee to the Civil Rights movement, Civil Rights commission, im sorry. So, those were two political appointments. And during that time, i was appointed by a republican president and i started getting invited to various events and withth republicans personally. Initially i was going to be the independent. At some point, i decided i didnt feel i could vote for democrats any longer based on their Party Platform and what they stood for because of my face. And i realized the republican Party Isnt perfect. We are all in perfect human beings but it lined up closer to what i believed, so i made a decision in 2009 to become a republican and so thats how i became a republican. And then black conservatives, you know, they have varying views. There are different views of conservatism. Im a christian conservative, some are libertarian. We differ quite a bit but we do Love America and i grew up believing he was the greatest nation in the world but now when i learn more about things the nation has done and the shame of afghanistan its various things that the nation allowed to take place throughout history but again we are all in perfect what we have in america is a lot of people i think that want to do the right thing and the average american they love their fellow man, they want to get along and this cuts across whites and blacks. Also though that the average black person, very much like the average white person, we have very much in common than we have in differences and people just etwant to get along and live thr lives and not be discriminated against whether you are white or black or some other group, you dont want discrimination. I think if we didnt have so many, quote, leaders out there pushing on their own agenda, that we would have a better nation and we would have a better world because the people that are leading us now are being paid off some of them by foreign powers, and some of them they dont care about the communities that they represent. They care about staying in office. We dont need anymore political leaders like that. So someone out there again, wondering whether you should run for office, if you want to run for Office Orr the power, and its not because you care about people and you care about making a better nation and a better world, then you need to stick with what you are doing. Host janet in newark delaware, lets try to get this Laste Call in. Janet in New York, delaware. Turn down the volume on your tv. We are going to move on. John in hershey pennsylvania. You are the last call her today. Caller its a great show. I have an incredible amount of respect for your guest. [inaudible] a dangerous position with political views being an africanamerican. I shudder to think of the threats that you receive. I just have a couple quick comments. I happen to believe that two of the major evil or disastrous institutions in the country that have become disastrous our education and the democratic party. Host okay, we got his point. Back to higher education and education. And your book, abduction. Guest you want me to respond to the caller . Host yes maam. Guest as far as threats and fear, we are all going to die one day and we dont know the manner of our death and people are terrified of covid. If youre supposed to die of covid, you die of covid. I happen to believe as a christian that there is a time and place for my death. Its already known. Its written in the book and that i cannot live my life in fear. And i will live as long as god wants me to live and so i dont allow threats, like people have taken everything from me that they could have taken from me. And yet, i thrive and i thrive because of gods protection, but if something should happen to me, i dont believe anything will happen until my work is done. And when my work is done, it wont matter. Its important for people to realize you are going to die. Liveom for something thats goig to make afo difference for somee else. And what was the other part of the question . Guest host most dangerous institutions in america. Guest the democratic party has been takenic over by a radil fringe group. Ive been a democrat most of my life and democrats were not always what they are today. And for people who are democrat, youfo need to take your Party Bk because what i see in washington and what i see around me, that is not the democratic party that i grew up around and what i knew. Ive lived long enough to remember the time when democrats and republicans work together for the good of the nation. They were not as polarized as they are right now. Andd the congress, the democrats and republicans should have a national interest and because of the lobbyists and the money they get from various interests, they are not representing us, they are representing themselves. And i dont know whatey you do about congress. Ourr institution with this executive branch, the judicial branch, or the legislative branch. They are broken institutions in our schools have been taken over by the critical Race Theorys and its not just critical Race Theory is. There are other critical theories. The critical feminist theory, they are males against females, heterosexuals against homosexuals, blacks against white, poor people against rich people. Its marxism, its all about division. It doesnt have to beal that wa. Ande so, i would encourage americans of goodwill to push back across political lives, across religious lines. Have to live this way. We can restore our nation, but we have to get rid of our leaders and we have to decide whats important to us. And we have to reclaim the media. Every institution has been taken over. I didnt list 1984 as a favorite book that people need to read orwells 1984, because we are living an orwellian nightmare and it doesnt have to be that way. Host the latest book is called black eye for america how critical race the areas burning down the house. She has been our guest on in depth
