Of course our country has been four months in turmoil from top to bottom and howard wants to know what is your view on the best way to minimize crime during blm protests and that could be either side of that issue there. Im very very close to the protests. A lot of people are leaving their homes. You have people in manhattan fleeing to the hamptons. People are moving from the north to the south, down to the southern most tips of georgia and florida to get away. Not everyone has the money to just buy a new house or go away for the summer. Thats really not an alternative for most people. And i would not in any way allow my children, and i would beg my husband not to be anywhere near the protests. To start with. I do not get involved in gun issues. I am a gun violence victim. I had to handle guns as a prosecutor. I had to train every six months at the shooting range in order to be a prosecutor. I do not carry a gun and have never carried guns. I do not advocate them in the home. I think its far more likely there will be an accident in your home with a gun and you will end up shooting a protester or my advice is to stay away. I dont mean hide from whats going on that we know the protests are happening. Stay away. Stay away. I feel very concerned about people going out and about with open carry weapons. I dont think thats necessarily the best idea. Do i advocate it . No, i think the protesters are entirely wrong fighting violence with violence. I saw what happened to Mister George floyd. I think he should have been charged with murder. If you and i go rob a bank and then i get crazy, youre on the hook for murder. Those two cops were right there when mister floyd was killed. They were part of it, the whole kit and caboodle needs to be tried together in court. Sadly thats not going to happen. Whereas that lady with the protesters, what happened to mister floyd and others is wrong. And it needs to be prosecuted. Does that justify whats happening with the protests . No it does not. Im afraid to let go of my laptop but i can tell you off the top of my head i distinctly covered that in safe while out and about, safe while shopping and safe in the parking deck and in parking lots. Number one, be aware. Number two, make sure that you part in a lighted area. Number three if youre on a parking deck, i always take a picture. Its g level, its green and this is where i parked. Number one athome , keep your doors locked, especially when you are home. Burglar alarm on. If you cant afford a Burglar Alarm they are 15 a month. You can likely afford that and ifyou really cant do that , get a sticker that says this home protected by x. And when a burglar comes in it doesnt end up just being a burglary. It can quickly escalate to a rape or more. Burglars are likely to go to the next home, why worry with a home with a Burglar Alarm . Do not, this is key, if youre an apartment dont do it. If youre in a home, leave it somewhere where only you and your family remember where it is. If you have a Burglar Alarm make sure you change the default, its usually 1234. Think of something you will remember like a parent, a phone. Dont use a factory setting. When your home at the front door either do a window to the side or people, dont do that. They can see you too. Dont open the door even if someone has on a uniform. Dont take the same route all the time, workout or jog during the day. If you must jog, go with a friend. Go with the dog, dont have a dog, take mace , pepper spray or screamer.
