Knocking on doors and all the battleground states. We have the infrastructure in place already and now we are knocking on about a Million Dollars a week. Host are you worried about this before and taking precautions with guest we are taking the safety and Health Precautions necessary. We were completely searchable at first. We made sure that there was ppe available and that all the procedures were being put in place and now weve gone to the full ground game and we feel really good about it. They obviously are cognizant of the home owners and making sure they are putting their safety first, but so far thereve been no issues. Host but we as me ask aboute news when he was asked about Election Night he said we are going to see what happens. From your standpoint, what does that mean . Guest of course the president is going to accept the results of the election, but i think that the president is concerned, as am i. , about many of the walls across the country being changed by democrats that are undermining the ability to get results, allowing ballots to be counted in some cases up to 14 days past election day and i think these are real concerns we have and why we are engaged in many lawsuits across the country. I dont understand why democrats are systematically in such an uncertain time with the country so divided going state by statee in trying to undermine the integrity especially when it has been said that its safe to vote in person. With michigan they had a Million People vote in their primary and there was no uptick in the coronavirus across the country democrats are undermining many of the processes that have been indicted and tried and true, and i think that it will insert chaos into Election Night. Host for those that prefer to mail in their ballot, do you have a problem with that . Guest it is a difference between somebody provocatively asking for an absentee ballot which everfor jeffrey statebye process. Thats part of the verification come asking for a ballot versus a state shifting the procedure to all mail in mandating mailin ballot and sending them to those that havent been vetted and havent been checked to see if people have moved away or passed away and those are concerns we have especially in states that dont have the infrastructure to handle the influx of mail in voting so those are concerns weve seen in the primaries play out this day in new jersey where they now have to redo an election and in new york six weeks to get results. These are precursors to what we think is good to have been on election day as many of the states are changing the laws onthefly without the infrastructure to handle these significant changes. Host to that point as you know tha that that in the debate president i is calling this a democratic scheme and corrupti corruption. So where is this happening specifically . Guest is very concerning to see states like nevada say not only are we going to expand out that we are going to mailin life ballots. We saw a lot of problems where they were literally littering Apartment Building floors were to door guarded cans. Every voter should have certain in the process. Democrats systematically over doing things to get rid of the verification, voter id. They want to expand ballot harvesting which i dont know how that would be safe if democrats are saying voting in person isnt safe why are we going door to door to collect them any safer. These are things we have seen across the state that have pretty much eliminated in person voting. The president is right to say democrats are inserting havoc and chaos. Host we have been hearing this could be the most litigated in history so what are you preparing for and how is the rnc getting ready for those challenges as they have been . Guest weve been across many cases in the country. Some of them have been codified. Dark money and then the Democratic Legislature and governor says thats what you want us to do, we will change the law. They are doing that as close to 90 days out so it is harder when its codified into law. Voters should be very alarmed by this. So we are sitting where we can. We will have lawyers ready and prepared. It also shows why it is so vital we have that seat fille on the e court because there are going to be many court cases after election day. Host that was a different argument four years ago when it was by members of your own party. Guest it was different because of the scalia vacancy and a different majority in the senate and a democrat in the executive branch. The voters made a choice. They chose republican at the executive level. They wanted republicans to fill that vacancy. Just because they are 40 days out doesnt mean you stop governing and i cant think of the timatime but its more pivoe have that critical mind to vote so wthevotes we dont get into e thats going to be as litigated as this one is. Host but do you understand the argument for those that say there is hypocrisy because we heard senator graham and senator mcconnell said four years ago and now of course as you point out its a different situation. Do you see their argument . Guest Mitch Mcconnell said if you have a legislative branch controlled by a Different Party in the senate and we should wait between both are from the same party and voters make the decision we need to follow that. We need a third branch of government fully staffed. Joe biden has said that himself. That the branch should be fully staffed. Its more concerning to see democrats say if we dont get what they want and you do what is constitutionally mandated for you to do to fill that vacancy, we are going to impeach you. I think that joe biden needs to come out and talk about where he stands on that issue. Its frightening to see democrats say if we dont get what they want they are going to change the rules. Host with the understanding of the decision up to the Supreme Court justice but if as we saw the outcome would be dependent on the u. S. Supreme court do you think a justice appointed should pre cues himself or herself sex guest im not going to get into that. Its going tthats going to be e senate and the president. I think it is critical though that we have that blind justice. I think its something thats going to be critical and i expect they will follow the wall and look alawand look at the fae able to adjudicate in that way. What are you expecting on Election Night . Guest we arnight . Guest co. E trying to get every voter out. In ohio and kentucky recently, the energy is very strong but we are going to keep working until election day. We want to make sure they are making the case. He deserves four more years. Hes the right person to rebuild our economy because hes done it before. Joe biden has been in washington for 47 years, never started a business or held a job outside of washington and says he will raise taxes on 82 of american families. Those are the messages we want to get out and this army that we trained is going to be the mechanism to talk to the voters oneonone to make sure we are getting them out. Host the debates begin tuesday. How is the president preparing . Guest shes giving events every night and of course hes going to do his own preparation but again hes been avoiding reporters day after day. Hes been more accessible than any other president , on the lawn of the white house taking questions with news briefings. I think he will be ready. Host does to a Supreme Court vacancy mobilize the voters, does it help for those who might be on the fence like the president s policies . Guest theyr there definitey were voters in michigan when i was chair of the motivated by the Supreme Court vacancy. They wanted republicans and a republican president just based on that and i think there will be those voters this cycle as well today i will say the energy we have seen has been unprecedented. I feel like theres more energy on the ground than we had in 2016 as im traveling the country with volunteer signups and all the things im seeing on the ground. I dont know if it takes much more to motivate them, but this certainly may help with some of the voters dont care so much about the Supreme Court and the generational implications that vacancy will have. Lets turn our attention to the u. S. Senate because as you note republicans are defending more seats this cycle. What states concern you the most complex races are you most worried about . Guest we have the opposite of what we had in 2018 so we have a lot of republican seats they want to make sure we hold. Martha mcsally, susan collins, which there is a lot then we have opportunities in alabama, a breakout candidate doing incredibly well. They are not just trying to hold our seats but we are trying to pick up seats as well. I dont want to make the candidates think that im worried about the race. I feel good about what they are doing but certainly some of these will be neck and neck. Host weve been looking at the reelection campaign. Do you have what is needed in terms of money for advertising and the final push . Guest we absolutely have the resources we need. The difference is we have raised record money and more than the dnc since the beginning of 2019. Weve been investing and thats why you are seeing stories like republicans are out registering democrats because having that game understanding you cant pop up a week before and train 2 million volunteers onthefly, having people trained to talk to the neighbors is so impactful and we have been building that for years so i feel good about where we are on the infrastructure side of things and the campaign will have the resources it needs. Host as somebody that studies and understands politics, from your standpoint is there a point of diminishing returns when it comes to advertising or other efforts to mobilize voters . Guest i think its kind of the whole picture. There are diminishing returns as people tune out. You have to pay more to get the views but then youve got to use digital mail. Its common sense if you are knocking on your friend your frr and say we lived on the street and our kids go to School Together can we talk about this, that is the most important tool and then on the phone to make sure the absentee ballots and those early votes come in so i think it is the whole ecosystem and we certainly have that heading into 2020. Host we have a lot of including the former chair and a lot of those taking aim at senator lindsey graham. Whats your reaction . Guest its disappointing. I dont know how you can hold republicarepublican ideals likeg regulation, Energy Independence from a better trad, better trade, strengthening the military, all these things President Trump has done and then say i am abandoning the Republican Party and i no longer want those things as democrats are espousing a path towards socialism, more government control more taxes, more regulation, taking away private healthcare, the list goes on and on. So i dont understand it but certainly we are going to do everything we can to make sure we have a victory not just for the president is taking back the house. Host does that divide the gop . Guest the group is smaller and smaller and they get more attention because but i know firsthand people who were concerned didnt know if he really going to put justices on the Supreme Court. They have come around in his support among the Republican Partys record high and that is evidenced by the enthusiasm not just through the volunteers but the conversations everybodys having where they say he really did deliver and i think republicans especially recognized he has been such a stronstrong precedent for these ideals pushing them forward. Host if you look at your home state and returns coming out november 3 what part of the state is going to be the bellwether for you and the president . Guest Macomb County will be the key. Everybody kind of got that one wrong in 2016 on the media side of things. We knew something was happening. That is a county that had been democrats and then went for trump. We need to perform in the most this area, but the whole state is mobilized right now. The energy on the ground, those are the counties i will be looking at. Host we are a very divided country so regardless what happens do you envision any role you and your counterparts and play in trying to heal the wounds left after the results coming in november . Guest i always want to see the country more united. I think as a mom and somebody with friends and family on both sides of the aisle politically, we dont want to see this division. I think its been unfortunate to see democrats refuse to accept the election of donald trump, boycotting the inauguration. The things this president has had to deal with has not been good for our country so hopefully no matter what we can come together because we live in the greatest country on earth and i want to see it continue so that dream is available for my kids and we need to do that working together. Host does the president with his tone bear any responsibility . Guest ive never seen a president have to deal with what this president has dealt with. You can talk about it all you want the thing you see before he was even elected that there were potential spies embedded in his campaign and fisa warrants against people in his campaign, the Obama Administration didnt just take him aside and say we are worried about these foreign actors will you work with us but is so concerning to me. That would have solved so many problemproblems and then to seem elected and democrats never work with this president , ive never seen anything like it. You talk about the peaceful transfer of power we didnt have that with this so hopefully we can get rid of the rhetoric would stop dividing the country. I know we are going to see more of that with the Supreme Court nomination. It was one of the saddest times to see the character assassination. Host laser message to democrats and what should democrats told republicans in terms of the deep divide we have . Guest i dont think they are listening to me right now but i will give you a little anecdote. My kids school had a website that went out. My kids of course for the first ones on tha the site and really strong democrat supporter called my daughter that night and said this is wrong on this is and what they should do to people in this country. You deserve to have your opinion and be respected and they took the site down together. I wish we did that more as adults. We should be able to have differences of opinion and not the vitriolic and hateful and divisive and hopefully we can get to a more civil discourse in the future. Host what has been the biggest learning curve over the last three and a half almost four years . Guest initially i wasnt a known person. Fund raising by something i was concerned about, traveling the country, talking to investors and talking about why it was important to invest was the biggest trouble because i cant do anything if we dont have money. Theres no ground game. So that was a big learning curve. And obviously being in washington and understanding the city is a little bit different but ive enjoyed every step of the way and lucky to have a president so supportive of the party which has made any challenge i face much easier. Host do you envision that he would stay on after the election . Guest i just want to get a great vacation no matter what after because i need to see my husband and my kids. Host any interest in running for Political Office . Guest im not going to answer the question. Right now honestly im not even thinking about that. That isnt even. Host your maiden name is romney and i wonder what for political discussions like growing up ex guest my middle name is romney and became my maiden name and remains my middle name. We had a lot of discussions around the sunday dinner table. My grandfather was the former governor of michigan and lived right next door. I didnt know that it was unusual to have political discussions and sometimes they were heated in our family that my grandfather always talked about the importance of getting involved and never taking this country for granted and i love this country and i love getting involved and they did it at the Grassroots Level and ended up running the Republican National committee. Host why did you decide to become chair of the committee and also of the michigan Republican Party . Guest i started as a precinct delegate. I was really engaged in math and served on the district committ committee. Part of my passion for becoming the chair as i felt lik was i fr state had been ignored and had become a flyover state for far too long. Then this candidate came along. He said im going to believe this nice mom from michigan. He came back and we won and about history and was offered the role to take over and its been a great challenge. It hasnt just been leaning in that divinanddiving in headfirsy every minute of it. Host what has been your biggest contribution in the last nearly four years . Guest theres two things that will be part of my legacy, a small ball o dollar fundraisig platform that will be competitive. The democrats have had that for 15 years. The first of its kind will be instrumental long term and then the prospecting we did early on to expand, it has a huge financial outlay that allowed us to reach out on a small dollar level like we never had before. Those will be the biggest assets i will be leaving behind. It was part of a whole team effort here. Host the chair of the National Committee joining us from the headquarters here in washington. Thank you for your time. Guest thanks for having me. Biotin is recklessly campaigning against the vaccine. All it is is for political reasons. His whole deal is catastrophic shutdown. Again in his own words recorded by bob woodward, the president knew back in february that this was an extremely dangerous disease. How many empty chairs around the dinner table because of his negligence and selfishness . Addressed the nation on the recent spike in cases. He warned that the country was entering a second way of saying it is all too likely we wont be gathering for thanksgiving but they still have a shot at christmas. Officials in canada reported a tripling of cases in the last five weeks with people under the age of 40 making up the majority of cases. Translator good afternoon, everybody. I want to speak directly to you today because canad
