Here to join us today for a brandnew field office. Lets hear it, dover. [cheers and applause] awesome. So once again thank you all for coming. I want to give a special thank you to all of our elected officials in office. If you are a city councilman can you raise your hand . [applause] awesome, city counselor there. [laughing] if you are a New Hampshire state representative, can you go ahead and raise your hand as well . [applause] thank you. And then if anyone has run for office here in New Hampshire and you go ahead and raise your hand as well . Everybody. [applause] awesome. Thank you all for coming. Before we get started i just want to show with all of you what im here on teen joe. About ten years ago i was diagnosed with scoliosis, a severe curvature deformity of the spine. Fortunately for me, my parents have Amazing Health insurance through their employer so this covered my doctors appointments and all of the years of that i needed. Six years ago i had a spinal fusion surgery to correct my spine, and that wouldve cost 100,000 have not had the Amazing Health insurance of my parents. I recognized at the age of 16 that theres a large disparity in this country between people and the Health Insurance. Thats something that is unfortunate and i recognized that are going is a luxury that i did, and that is why i trust jill biden with our health care and avoid he is the best candidate to be the next president of the United States. Amen. [applause] im sure as all of you know, as Vice President he helped create the Affordable Care act which provided millions of people with Health Insurance they need, and as president he wants to reform and revise that too at a public option and make sure everyone is covered in David Winnick and have the ability that i had with my scos situation. And so as you know, 2020 is a very important election. No matter how old you are, this is very important and we need all the help we can get to make sure jill biden is the next president of United States. Were actually going to head out today for dr. Biden speech a knock on some doors and talk to people in the community, and hope all of you will grab the packet and join us today. But before we hear from dr. Biden unexecuted is the county commissioner, george, to speak with us. Thank you. [applause] good morning, everyone. I want to take a minute come first of all its my pleasure to be with you all this morning. I want to talk about jill biden if i could for secondary this is is the second time i endorsed joe biden for president. The major reason for that is that this election is not about the candidates, folks. Its about us. Its about the middle class. Its about restoring the social contract that weve had in this country that my fathers generation, my grandfathers generation, if you work hard, you played by the role we could, on her own homes and sent her kids to College Committee have a little set aside for our retirement. We seen so many people the past two decades lose that opportunity. The point being is that joe gets us. Joe never forgot where he came from. I have the first opportunity to meet you when you first the United States senate. I remember in his First Campaign he went around and had like 1000 copies i think was. He met in everyones living room, sat down and talk to real people their real problems. I can also share with you, if i can, and a lot of people dont know this, but his advocacy over time for women, the violence against women act, he was an architect in the 1990s. I started the first Domestic Violence program here as a result of having those federal funds available. Over the course of time, its graduate from a Small Program here that helped hundreds and hundreds of folks to our family justice center, one of the first ones of its type in New Hampshire. That would not have happened if it wasnt for joe biden. When i mentioned to you its about us, its about us. The election is about us. Its not about the candidates. Its about what they stand for and what they going to do to help us. Because its all about expectation. Joe has not only the best message but he has a history of working for the middle class. And thats so important. It is so important, especially with the issues going on. This polarization we have in our country, i can share this, its not a good thing. Its not a good thing. I dont know about you but its about time we get an adult in the white house. [applause] theres nothing wrong with reaching across the aisle to the opposite party and to work on problems collectively as human beings. Theres nothing wrong with that. Weve lost our wait in that regard here in the last decade or so, and i dont know about you but im really tired of it. So i want someone like jill biden who is a statesman who can make those connections, not all here on our country but across the world. We need to restore americas presence in the world as the last great hope on this earth. So with that said, im so very happy to have jill with this here this morning because your advocacy for, whether its for support of education for women and young ladies across the world, your fight on the war on cancer, your support for military families. I think youre going to make a great first lady. [applause] and i hope that dover and surrounding regions help make that happen. Thank you. With that said, doctor, they are all yours. [applause] thank you. Thank you for your introduction and for your leadership here. You know, over the years you have served in local government with passion and conscience, because of your guidance, Stratford County is stronger and more accountable, so thank you for your work. And thank you to everyone here today for joining us. I know there are lots of ways you could be spending or saturday morning and so ungrateful and honored that you would come here with, you know, join team biden. And thank you to the team biden. I appreciate it. [applause] i am a teacher and they teach writing at a community college, and, in fact, actually yesterday i was grading, quizzes in between events. Sounds a . A . You must be a teacher. So perhaps in light of losing author Toni Morrison recently, ive been thinking a lot about stories. Do you teach english . Math. The other side of the brain. [laughing] that gives me the shivers. Anyway, the stories that we tell shared identity. They can isolate us, and they can make us afraid. They can make us angry, and even inspire the kind of gun violence that weve seen again and again. But stories can actually make us rise up to kindness as well. They can remind us that our differences are precious and that our similarities are infinite. That our community, our country is capable of beautiful and powerful things. In her Nobel Peace Prize speech, morrison said, and i quote, narrative is radical. Creating us at the very moment it is being created. For our sake and yours, tell us what the world has been to you in the dark places and in the light, end quote. When i think of the story of these last few years, its hard not to focus on the things that divide us. We all feel it. The hate, the bigotry, marching through the streets, the political risks, the violence. But we have other stories to tell, too. Yesterday i was at unh to celebrate 25 years of the violence against women act which was passed exactly 25 years ago yesterday in 1994. And as an sure most of you know, or all of you know, unh is one of the safest schools in the nation for women. And never settling for good enough, always looking for better proven ways to address and prevent rape and assault. To echo what my husband said when he visited unh a couple years ago, he said, i wish all colleges had a little more unh wildcat in them. You can clap for that. [applause] and while you would think that a law to keep women safer in their homes and on the streets, a bill to protect their civil rights with passed easily, right, that makes common sense to all of you, it actually took four years. Joe was chair of the Senate Judiciary committee at the time. And so one summer he was reading the stuff joe reads, you know, like crime and statistics and violence against men was dramatically declining, but violence against women was on the rise. So he went and he met with women in shelters and crisis centers, and he heard heartwrenching stories from the women there. And he heard stories of rape and abuse. And he vowed to be a partner, to lift up those stories and to take them back to washington. So think of the time, so many of his colleagues in the senate were really against what he was doing. They thought that maybe we shouldnt punish abuse so harshly and if you can remember back then, you know, Domestic Violence was thought of as of this private and family affair. Can you believe, that was just 25 years ago . That if theres anyone who can beat the odds, its jill. He doesnt know how to be discouraged. When he faces political turmoil, when he faces cynicism and anger, even when he faces unthinkable things like the death of his wife and baby in a car accident, and later the death of our beloved son beau. He finds a path and he moves forward with unflinching determination. Joe has always hated bullies. So he did what he does best. He brought people together. He went to both sides of the aisle, which is what hes known for. He lifted up womens voices. He pushed back on experts who made biological claims that women triggered men to abuse them. You remember, im sure a lot of you remember all of this. He never gave up. And after four years of hard work, and he watched president clinton signed his bill. In the years after this law passed, incidence of serious victimization by intimate partners has declined by more than 70 . We had a National Hotline which has saved thousands of lives, and we have created a culture change around violence. Thats what we needed, the culture change. Something that was once only whispered about has come into the light. Protecting the civil rights of women and girls, the communities who come together, to stand up against bigotry and hatred. Young people who choose to make a difference in our world, just like so many of you who are here today. Everyone who keeps fighting for our values, rather than to sink into cynicism and despair. Thats our story, too, and thats the story that were going to tell together. When we lift each other up. When we share good books and we take dinner to our friends who are struggling. So just for a moment i want you all to imagine that its the summer of 2021. You are sipping your coffee, like its a saturday morning. Have your coffee cup in hand and you pick up the morning paper, and the headline isnt about some latenight tweet storm here. [laughing] [applause] instead, its a story about children, like this little child who was just here, who will benefit from universal prek. You read about the progress that is being made to the Paris Agreement and have United States is once again leading in the fight against climate change. [applause] you turn on the television this saturday morning, and the anchors are talking about how were going to build on the Affordable Care act. [applause] and their reporting that someone is finally standing up to the nra to keep our students safe. [applause] and what you look at that tv and you see the president of the United States, you dont turn the channel. [laughing] [applause] you call in your kids from the other room because you want them to hear what the president of the United States has to say, a president that we can be proud of, a president who brings people together, not tears families apart. A president who believes that our best days are ahead of us, not behind us. Thats the future i want, and i know its the future you want, too. And thats why you are all here today. We are so excited, all of us here, keane biden, to open our office in dover. And every time i visit New Hampshire, i can feel the energy and excitement growing at every phone bank, at every democratic picnic, and every fair and farmers market. And today i think im going to a greek festival. [laughing] people are excited. What did you say . Its great. We went last night. [laughing] and this is just the beginning. We are gearing up for an incredible year. It seems like like a long timet its going quickly. This is why we need you, all of you, to knock on doors, to make phone calls, to tell your colleagues and your friends why you are supporting joe biden. And we need you to bring your friends and family along, too. So please, keep coming back. On behalf of joe and me, and everyone putting their faith in this election, thank you for being here today, everybody. Thank you. [applause] thank you for showing up. Thank you for calling and walking and talking to your friends. And thank you for believing in an idea thats bigger than all of us, that we can build a better nation if we do it together. Thank you, dover. Thank you for being here. [applause] now were going to get people to sign up. Definitely. With so many package rate for all of you in the back, and the and unhappy to train you on. If you want to make some calls, we will be doing that as well, so thank you, dr. Biden, once again for joining us. [applause] if youd like to say hello or take a photo, we will start lining up this way. Yes, we definitely have you have this background. You want to bring that in here . Bring it all the way in. Cspan is back in des moines, iowa, this saturday or Live Campaign 2020 coverage of the polk county democrats annual steak fry begin at 2 p. M. Eastern were 18 president ial candidates will take the stage for speeches. Watch the polk county i would i want steak fry. Our cspan campaign 2020 us team is traveling across the country visiting key battleground states in the 2020 president ial race asking voters, what issues they want president ial candidates to address during the campaign. I think every pressing issue id like to see candidates talk about his health care, because theres a lack of healthcare in the country know. Affordable healthcare at the very least, and some people are not going as far as i like to go into details of how they plan to handle that. I hear a lot of general ideas but i like policy a lot i would like to see where that goes. I would really like for the candidates to discuss how were going to normalize ourselves ass a leader if not the leader in what we used to call the free world, and the rest of the world as a leader in democracy. And a leader in Democratic Values around the world. Also, a cooperative force with the rest of the world. I would like to know the ideas on Nuclear Energy and the reinvestment of technology and every state in the country. And i would like to know if they believe it is sustainable, reliable use for the investment to our nation. Im really concerned about the Climate Crisis and about gun safety legislation, and those are two essential things that have to be addressed by the election next year. I wish it would be addressed by congress before that but it doesnt appear the senate will move on that. Also, we need to try to get back to enforcing the constitution that hour, whoever becomes president should obey the emoluments clause, should conduct business with integrity, should not ridicule minorities or handicapped people or aged or anyone else. We need to restore integrity and we need to restore a sense of service to all of the people. Voices from the campaign trail, part of cspans battleground states tour. Next, massachusetts senator and president ial candidate Elizabeth Warren gives a speech in new york citys Washington Square park near greenwich village. Ahead of that she unveiled a proposal her Campaign Calls the biggest anticorruption plan is watergate
