Washington. It is a celebration of our bilateral relationship with mexico, a relationship, frankly, that is at risk. As president and ceo of the United States Hispanic Chamber of commerce i have the honor of representing 4. 4 million hispanic owned firms in cistron trithat together contributed over 700 million to the American Economy every year, and witness whether its in the hallofcongress, state capitols, the white house, or corporate headquarters, our organization puts the hispanic business commune at the forefront of our nations economic agenda. How appropriate that we are gathered at the National Press club, because it is no secret that our First Amendment right to freedom of the press is under attack. Today with the help of Pulitzer Prize winning journalist mary jordan well can didly commit ourselves to truth. No fake news. No alternative facts. Thank you sincerely also to all the other members of the media who have joined us here today. We have over 34 Media Outlets from all over the world. Finally, on behalf of thity Hispanic Chamber we extendunder utmost gratitude to the honor vicente fox. His legacy speaks speaks of hig, reducing corruption and crime, strengthening the rights of the indigenous population and increasing trade relations with the rest of the world, and in particular, with the United States. You see, president fox is a Global Leader that recognizes the value of bonds between nations. We are stronger individually when we bridge cultures, communities, and countries. When it comes to mexico, we know that we share so much more than a border. We share a long history, unified by economic and social interests. Our countries share a bond that cannot and will not be inhibited by a wall. But why would our Business Association care so much . Well, consider the following. 94 of the Global Market d94 of the Global Market exists outside of the United States. So quite frankly, if our members are to continue to grow, they must have access to foreign markets. As the americas as americas Third Largest trading partner, mexico plays a crucial role in boosting our nations economy. And i never pass up the chance to remind the leaders at the highest levels of business and government, that mexico is a larger trading partner to our country than brazil, larger than france, germany, great britain, india, japan, and the list goes on. In fact, right now, bilateral trade between mexico and the u. S. Stands at 530 billion on an annual basis. Every day, over 1. 5 billion of trade crosses our unwalled borders, and this has created over 6 million american jobs. Additionally, while most americans dont know this, mexico ranks among the top three export trade partners for 39 of our american states, and that includes states like kansas, colorado, illinois, indiana, minnesota, south dakota, and even rhode island. At the usatc we understand that the relationship with mexico is an economic imperative. So we look to leaders in government to strengthen not only the diplomatic ties with these neighbors of ours to the south, but equally important, the economic ties. This means preserving nafta. This means a reasonable immigration system. This means security for our dreamers. But ill let the president talk to those issues as his words carry much more weight and more wisdom than mine. In recent news, he has been known for his, shall i say, colorful criticism of President Trump. And were thrilled to have him here today. Because that criticism, as candid as it might be, frankly, is extremely valuable, in his new book let move on beyond fear and false prophets president fox offered a unique perspective on americas political climate. In an era of isolationism and antimexican sentiment he discusses the divisions we see today, how we got here, and where such divisiveness can lead. But more than that, he offers advice. This book is not so much criticism as it is a lifeline. President fox illustrates a remarkable commitment to american democracy. In the book, president fox asks, what would you do if your neighbors house was on fire . Would you sit and watch because, after all, its not your house . Or would you try to help . I feel morally obligated to help not just because helping others is the right thing to do he says, but because if you dont do something, soon your house will catch fire, too. Now, joining president fox on stage is my dear friend, mary jordan, from the Washington Post. Mary has been a Foreign Correspondent for countries across the globe. She lived and reported in mexico for five years,. [speaking spanish] some she won a Pulitzer Prize for reporting on the system. I cannot imagine a more impressive or qualified jihad to be joining president fox on stage today. Without further adieu, ladies and gentlemen, please stand, and welcome to the stage, Washington Post national correspondent, mary jordan. [applause] finally, and finally, please welcome the former president of mexico, the honorable, vicente fox. [applause] thank you, javier, thank you for coming. Me his, sullivan expires my colleague in mexico was also on at the team. The husband and wife team that won the pulitzer. We just had news. Rear back in at the green room and the phone beeped, and the headline is kind of big. I i have to ask you about it. It says President Trumps immigration proposal to congress is going to include a path to citizenship. For an estimated 1. 8 million young undocumented immigrants. And this is after the white house has been briefing people today. Thats more than twice the number that was included in daca that he killed before. It says. Trumps plan, which is going to go to the senate as early as monday, also includes 25 billion for a border wall. From mexico . Hes sending it to the senate so hes asking them to put up the money, and a lot of other things theres a lot more details coming out about this, but at least on the headline, what would you make of this . Let me tell you, sarah, 100 years many people here in the states and much more in mexico have been striving to reach this point, and concretely, back in 2003, this is 16 13 years ago, a bill was presented in congress advocating for 11 million undocumented people in this nation. It was a bipartisan presentation. Senator kennedy, sent senator mccain and president bushs administration. I had the honor to be here in washington for this in advance, that very sad day, September September 11th, and i sat down with all the commissions related to migration and related to trade and nafta, and everything was ready to go. Unfortunately, that awful day changed everything. I got a phone call from president bush saying, vicente, priorities have changed. You and i have as our First Priority a comprehensive reform in the case of migration, but now i have to work on security, and that will be my priority for the next month and next year. Now, remember how he was applauded in every global might we participated. We all would stand up and applaud him because of that decision. We have to accept that our case became less priority. But anyway, today we might be witnessing history again, but believe me, expression some doubts if this happens today, what the next is going to be about. Just not more than three weeks ago he was saying that he will never pass, then he says he loves the dreamers, then he says he might consider, and today he says that we are obtaining it. Fortunate, 1. 8 million i know they want to stay here. Thats where their friends are. This is where their families are. And this is their country. We wish we could have them in mexico, all that onemillioneight. That would be fantastic. Mexico would change completely with 1. 8 million talent graduate from university. They can change world, believe me. So finally, senor trump came back to reason. Im glad for if it happens. He says if you give me 25 billion and well build a wall and doesnt seem to be a 2,000mile wall anymore, theres already 7 hub miles there, he resident use natural boundaries. You talked a lot about the wall. What do you is its fair trait . You get 1. 8 Million People who have a path to citizenship and they can build the wall with their money . It is a fair trade because i would not change the future and the dreams of one single human beings for a wall, for 25 billion. To me its much more important, the future, the happiness, the dreams of each one of those dreamers. Now, in the case of congress approving 25 million billion u. S. Dollars, if this is what United States wants, to take out of the pocket of citizens, taxpayers, 25 billion, to pay for a useless wall, i dont care. We mexicans dont care. There are many other better alternatives than that, to invest 25 billion, for instance, creating jobs here, creating jobs in mexico, creating jobs in central america, with 25 billion you can create at least 23 million new jobs that will be 23 Million People with opportunities. But anyway, if that is what is going to be done, we is not important for mexico. Why do you say i say its useless because history has proven through on this. The chinese wall has stand years, decades, hundreds of thousands of people working, having a job, to build the chinese wall against enemies, the mongols and the mamchus and they jump it and conquer china. So it was absolutely use this. This case of the wall in berlin, exactly the same. A lot of money invested in the wall, and at the very end, couldnt restrain people looking for their freedom and their liberty. So, president reagan comes in and say, mr. Gorbachev, tear off that wall. And the wall will harm severely the nation. This is a global make. This is the leader of the world, and President Trump has to understand that when you elected him, he was not to be just president of the United States. He would become the leader of the world, and thats a huge responsibility upon the shoulders of anybody, and he is not up to that. He has been finding germany, spain, everybody. And but the case is that this decision to building a wall and closing within a wall 3 million 350 million u. S. Americans, 350 leaders, 350 brains and talents, 350 human beings behind a wall is incredible. Absolutely incredible. And when he isolating from the rest of the world, from those who are well mentioned by javier, a world out there that is 90 more consumption terms than the United States. Why would he enclose and hold global corporations, u. S. Global corporations, u. S. For 500 in four walls and let them out of the markets they have conquered. Its incredible, this nags right after world war ii, decided to go for marks, decided to go global, and so they had a very bad time trying to convince all of us, all the economies to open our economies, to accept the cocacola, the automobiles, and everything that was produced here, and we were convinced and accepted the challenge, and then we, latin america economies and other economies in the world, became very competitive, and now that were competitive and we have a surplus, then the leaders say, no, that cannot happen. Im the leader. Lets built the wall. Lets change nafta. Are you saying that really its a 25 billion statement, psychological statement, because there is hundreds of miles of walls there, so in a way, like, whats the big deal if he wants to bill a few hundred more . Are you saying when they Start Building this and all the rhetoric behind it, because you were talking about globalization is its bigger statement than the actual physical wall . I dont know. Some say it would go to 45 billion. It depends on the technology, the height of the wall, and with thatting high, they will jump it. Like el chapo, they will make a tunnel and go under. So, who knows what its worth. Look, i mean, a wall is nonsense. You can use your mind. You can use the intelligence. Drones, for instance, with 35 billion you can buy about i dont know 5 million drones. You can have one drone in every meter of that border, surveying, watching if somebody is crossing. Are you saying crossing the wall or the border. If you talk to people do summarize lot of people, 63 million vote for trump and a lot of people that just say, you know what . I like people who follow the rules. I dont like people who just jump over fences. I agree with them and with everybody. We need order and security in the border. But we have better ways and means of attaining that. For instance, at the very end were talking about an economic issue. Were not starting income that you will make on the u. S. Side compared to the income on the mexican side, was tenfold. You make one dollar in the mexican side, and by learning how to swim and cross the rio grande, or learning how to jump a wall you make ten dollars. I ask you, each and every one of you, would you not go for the ten dollars instead of one that you were making . So this is the price and the cost of success for this nation. Number two, when nafta advanced in one generation, now nafta is 25 years old, the gap has narrowed from ten to five. So the incentive is not so powerful. Thats why we see people coming back, hispanics from here to mexico. One of the main purposes of nafta, to bring mexico to a better level of living and a better economy. That is happening also. This is why my forecast is in one more generation, in 25. If we keep nafta, we are going to be onetoone. You will make one dollar on the u. S. Side and make one dollar on the mexican side and that is canada today. Then you forget about the problem of the border and the problem of this exchange of migrants. Doesnt happen anymore. Lets talk about and a half tamp theres critical negotiations going on now it and is 25 years later and the president of the United States says its been great for mexico. What could be get . This is what he would say. Stupid man. Let me tell you, let me tell you. Tell us how you really feel. Let me tell you. Five years ago, just five years ago, gm, chrysler, went broke. And you, taxpayers in United States, had to rescue by billions of dollars those three companies. Ford didnt accept, the other two did. But you bet a lot of money in recuperating recuperating and bringing back to market those company. What happened . They game nafta corporations and this is the heart of nafta. Putting together a resources, putting together our capacity, to be competitive compete with asia. So, this three companies became nafta corporations, and they have one foot in canada, and they produce intelligence there and design, they have one foot in mexico, and we manufacture, they have one foot in United States, and you take the cream of the milk. This is the profits come back here, and the jobs have not even been lost. You have lost manufacturing jobs. United states has lost 25 of its manufacturing jobs, considering ten years before but you gain 60 more technological and Information Technology jobs. So those guys in the manufacturing, they better learn that theres not going be a job for them in the future in five years or ten years. Robots will take it away from them. Technology will take it away from them. And things will change. This is why nations that are thinking with their head, not like here, that guy, like norway, like sweden, they are establishing a universal income for every family and every person no matter if you work or dont work. You get the minimum to live, and you can then dedicate yourself to vacation or read or technology. They are preventing and knowing that were running fast speed to the world where there would be no jobs anymore. And its great. Nothing will happen. We creating row boats robots to work for souse we can dedicate ourselves to spirituality, dedicate ourselves to reading to learning to taking care of our family, enjoy love. So i think its great what is going to happen. I hate to move from enjoying love to nafta but can we go back for one second . Because you successfully predict, it turns out, that mexico wasnt going to pay nor wall inch said you said, no, effing way. That started trending on twitter hes the createoff or the fair, your husband in mexico. Since you predicted, because it doesnt look like mexico is paying nor wall, what is your prediction about nafta . These negotiations i was just in iowa and American Farmers are quite worried because they send most of their corn to mexico. It is a huge issue now. What do you think will happen with nafta . Two outcomes. One is stay in nafta and improve it. And guess every single american wants to do that except one. Except one dictator. He wants to impose his position and im taking issue here in washington because in his home, so i he left town. He is in davos because he heard you were coming. But its nothing personal, believe me. This is just idea. Where were we . What is going to happen with nafta . Some people are worried that theyll cut the u. S. Out and be canada and mexico. Lets see the scenario of the other outcome. He quit out of nafta. What happens . First of all there are rules in the organization of trade and commerce. Its a global organization. Create by United States and other founders. You will have to submit yourselves to those regulations. If we move out from nafta, then this organism will regulate what will do, and thats the case, nothing happen, except the said he might get out of the oet and if he gets out of there, we are in the jungle, and everybody will lead more place if you are smart. Now, mexico is already deal of we china. Brazil has trade agreement with china. China much more than United States. They tried much more than United States. Its huge what they trade. So we already conversation with him. We already buying grain, corn, soy, in brazil, and argentina. And much lower prices than what we buy here. I we stop buying from United States grain, but 3 million farmers will not have a market anymore. How are they going to survive . Would it be be so bad for mexico is nafta becomes canada and mexico . He was already trashed tpp and people cut the u. S. Out. The big problem is this. The big problem is this. You have oriented, you have conducted all your investment, all our activities to the u. S. Market. So we have to move to meet to go to the Chinese Market or go to south american market. We have to adopt factories, adapt designs, models. We have to adopt Marketing Strategy and takes years to do that. Thats why, cardenas, which i dont like, he said this route is too long so he nationalize the oil industry. I dont want to see that scenario. We will all lose. We will start fighting with each other. Every decision has a reaction. Tax cuts, you cut taxes here, the rest of the world will have to adapt. We will cut taxes and we will all win, and it will be even again for all of us, so the advantage of trump claiming for u. S. Corporations, they will have it also in mexico, they will have it also in europe. Do you agree with his tack cuts for corporations . This is it has not been ever proven that this is a republicans, that when you move the money from government to the pockets of corporations, and reach and small amount for regular people, it doesnt work. Its not true that the economy responds growing in millions some responds on creating more wealth. Usually what happens is the corporations, like some are doing now, are using that money to liquidate so theyre firing. This is news yesterday or day before yesterday. They using that money maybe for other costs, so its difficult to think they will reinvest all that money, generating more wealth. So that thesis is not proven. I brief in that thesis, i brought taxes from 36 . It was income tax rate in mexico, down to 32, and then to 28. Gradually. Maybe thats what should have been done here. To bring it down gradually. But you have to replace that money. And where is the strong plan, to replace the money . With more debt. So your sons and the sons of your sons and the sonses of your son are getting indebted. Thats trumps plan. The other plan is to substitute that income with another income, which is what we did in the whole world is doing. When you use this tax, corporate tax, when you killing is investment, what you killing is corporations, you are killing entrepreneurship, but the world has moved to sales tax, where you tax consumption. He who consumes most, he pays more. He who consumes less, he pays much more fair kind of taxation to tax consumption. The tax code discussion has brought up an issue that consumed a lot of people about growing inequality in america. Sometimes outside views are from you, you were at cocacola, do you feel that this plague of which has been a doling world problem, is now coming to america in the divide between rich and poor . I really think thats what happen. You follow the change. Theres consumption you get investment to provide that consumption. When you have invest you get companies, corporations and investment and the circle books. When you refuse the tax to the big guys and dont do it to the small guys, to the great majority of people, you dont provoke consumption. So to me its what mexico did. You exempt to a level of income the lowest levels of income. You exempt and from there on you still lower the tax rates, and that really enhances consumption. You enhance consumption, enhance investment, you enhance corporation, and you go back to the circle. Thats my thinking. Its not proven. So i guess its good, this pocket change is moving. By the way the Stock Exchange . United states is the best in terms of income, because 60 million families in United States have stock from different corporations, from different companies. So it i distributes income the long run. So, were just mentioning that donald trump is in davos today and his America First policy is a discussion and were on the oneyear never a anniversary of his presidency. So since your so colorful with words, how would you describe the first year of donald trump . And his effect on the world. Poor. Poor. You know, this obsession of him to comply and commit with promise campaigning, i think thats absolutely wrong. You campaign, you should make your own plan for governance, and then you should get a team and how to do it. When you campaigning you want votes. I was also a populist. I was also in a way like him. But i learned very quickly i had to listen, that i had to listen to people, its really what they wanted. And then you start changing your plan. So, today, keeping that obsession that he has to comply with to promises he made is absolutely wrong and he is finding out. Daca, which he was campaigning, no, no more migrants and all the promises he made there so he should have flexibility. This idea of himming into the greatest dealer. He makes deals and always wins. Thats wrong. Thats wrong. You make deals to let your opponent have what he wants and you get what you want. But both sides win. When you destroy the other, you press them way down to the floor, and then you you say you won all the marbles for you. Its not a good way of dealing, and more so his compassion. He only loves himself. Himself again. Himself again. Maybe melania. I dont know. Maybe his grandson because we all fall in love with our grandsons. But further away from that, those supposed to bring in eric and ivanka and the family, the whole family to the white house, each one with a position, very relevant position. I mean, thats pure nepotism in latin america. We dont accept it there. Youre running into trouble doing that. Fortunately, they are out now. A problem with this russia thing and fortunately theyre out. Bannon. Oh steve bannon, the body of trump. Racist, discriminators. So in the genius of them we see what we saw for 100 years in latin america. Thats why were lagging way, way, way bend in latin america, because we believe this kind of character. We believe those dictators, those populists, those perones, those chavez, those hugos. We believe on them because they say dont worry what dictator . What is they danger . If youre afraid, dont worry. I build a wall for you. We would get back the carbon industry, or you lose your job in the manufacturing of the companies. Dont worry, i get you jobs, sit down, have your beer, watch tv and wait for me to perform. Im going perform for you. Let me just go back to one thing because since you have been so clear about your feelings of trump, its surprising you said in a way i was like him. You were a populist. In what way were you like system he might be interested what you have in common. Let me tell you. My life, my life, most of my life has been private sector. A lot of days, work hard, my grandfather from cincinnati, ohio, taught me how to work hard and how to dedicate my life in politics, and i came to politics because i believe in compassion, because i believe that you have to do something when things are not running well. So i decided to jump into politics. And the it was incrediblement you have to pass so many experiences, making mistakes, like he is doing, until you finally learn what is all about in here. Camp passion and the leader shows the way compassion, the leader shows the way. Thats not true. The capacity to show the way to go, and so its totally different. In this makes being leader an exclusive issue. So people think im going do be a leader, trying to be like mo hat ma beganty or Martin Luther king. When you were running, you came up against a political machine, and you got a lot of people to vote for you. I just was curious, what did you mean thats my point, is that you then, when you campaign, you overpromise. You overoffer. How do you get out of the problem of saying they re anythinged. Youre not following through on what you promised. How do you debt get around that . That was my case, first you of the get there, and that trump did. But when you are there, you forget about this is what playing a game of competitiveness to gain votes. Now youre president. Doesnt it seem a little duplicitous . It is simple but it is true. Everybody that gets into politics, they tell you they want to serve, help you. Good. They tell you that. But what they want is power and money, including myself. So, you go to politics for that. [laughter] you go to politics for that, but in my big heart i have jesuit education, the commitment to serve others, and to serve others you have to have a position, and you serve others. Lets good back to this news of the day. Javier has talked to the administration and this is the administration. To get anything done you have to talk to them and youve had a line into them and there is feedback there has been evolution, then we had news today that its not going to be 800,000 dreamers. It could be 1. 8 million. So, is it possible that three years from now, at the end of this term, you could be happy with this administration . He could evolve . I know evolve, and he is evolving. Thats why i say we are domesticating him. He is learning. He is learning. He is learning. You learn, you have to be open to learning and that happens to all of us. So, thats one point. The other one is three years from now, maybe it would be working, but to make sure that happens, i dont see anything better that in november, he has a congress of opposition majority. I think that will show the nation that the balance of power will work for the benefit of the nation. Now, again, i know you want short answers because you cut me but my think, my thinking is, is not unique to the United States, what happened here. Its everywhere in the world. Everybody is disappointed with democracy, democracies are not delivering the expected outcome that we elect governments for, and thats in the soul and the heart of every american. You are thinking, things are not not going that well airports not that the American Dream is dead, like he said but he was appealing to that. He knows everybody is saying, jesus, this is not working as well. So that is general feeling worldwide. My analysis and any point of view and evaluation is that we are going to see the new wives operating democracy, of electing governments, because the governments are electing they dont have governability. We elect them with one percent difference, half percent difference. They dont have the support of people in Public Opinion to carry on with the needs of the nation, and this happens everywhere, in mexico, brazil, everywhere in europe, spain, and so we are going to see something new coming in the very next year. One thing that can illustrate this is parliament system. There, lets say a selection of the Prime Minister is done by a group of people that got there to be parliamentarian because they have represent people and elect the Prime Minister and elect them as long as he does well. They can take him off six months after. The group gets together and says, Prime Minister, were sorry but your out and they elect another one. I think were stuck with our system. They can even change the electoral college. Thats wrong. Met ask you about compassion chase really important point. I think the stories we have been seeing in the thus about fathers and mothers who are here for three or four decades, who dont even speak spanish, that i. C. E. Picks them up and they dont even have family in mexico. The state of the union is next week and the wife of a man who was deported is going to be the guest, because the democrat who is inviting her, Debbie Dingell from michigan, is so outraged. Theres a lot of people outranged guilty port additions. I havent really heard how its seen in mexico. What happens when these people, who go back . Their families welcome them because they have been transferring money to them. Every month, every spanish here sends 300, 200 to their family. For an amount today, 24 billion u. S. Dollars. So thats one very close relationship. But how we see it, we are harmed. We feel offended. This is my case. I will not be doing this. Today i heard trump saying what he said. I said i cannot support this. I have to do something, because i was grown among those that today are here as immigrants. They opportunity to go to school because my father all of them did not, and so their only option was to the other side. A and they are here, i visit hem in kitchens, harvesting vegetables in california, harvesting apples in washington state. Im very close to it. I really work for them, from mexico, and so it is hurt me that he spoke of them the way he spoke, when theyre my heroes. I love them. They are my inspiration. All of you, all of you hear come from immigrant family or immigrant background, all of you, and they are very special people. I have my family comes 400 years, from ireland, then was pest, disease, war, they moved out. They went to the best place on the border of france and germany. There was action there there was jobs, there was so they settled there for 200 years, and then war came into europe and war came right there, and things got rick so they moved to United States. And where theyd go snow to where the action was, ohio. You know that ohio has given seven president s to this nation. Ohio. Shy came here and settle in ohio and thats where they participated on the war, on the civil war here. But my grandfather decided to move down because you know where his job was . Sacrificing the hope for the butcher and that was his job, and the butcher would sell the meat on the street, from the stable was there something specific that donald trump said about immigrants that so riled you up . You said when i heard him say that, i had criminals, rapists. He doesnt like brown. That im sure. He doesnt like black colors. He doesnt like yellow colors. You, then, went on to call him many things, i think buffoon was one of the ones i could say on family television, but it was one about, like, a rotten halloween pumpkin from last year . And another thing. So were not used to then there was, of course, a lot of the expletives. I want to ask why are you so over the top about the president of the United States . Because usually people arent. I wanted to call attention to my message, and hes a good sparring for that. And basically thats. How many people hispanic who have 35 million . Wholes besides javier speaks the truth and who else besides besidesoffaire. We saw the movement of women, thats the way to go. You have everybodys attention. You did it for in a nutshell, what is your message . My message is, this is a great country. The leader of the world. County not fail by having a president like him. This nation has to keep building what you have built, doing what you have done, trying to take care of the world, and be compassionate. How Many Americans we are gaining nothing in africa, attending the poor, the sick, attending the economies there. How many of them are in everywhere else in the world . Thats is a compassionate nation that is what the Founding Fathers did. So thats what i expect to happen. Number two, north america. Nafta. How are we going to meet the challenge of the east . Just imagine five years from now, ten years, chinas economy is going to be larger than the United States. Trading to china is 25 more traden than United Trading tn United States. So the power by National World market, are going to shift to the east, and what are going to be the prevailing values . If we go by their beliefs and their dogmas and their thinkings, what going to happen with the western civilization . All that we have built in italy, france, germany, United States, in mexico and brazil, going to happen with all of that . Empires go by. Last one, british empire. Off. Now is United States. And i dont want United States to behave like an empire and i dont want the north United States to behave using the theme, being the ugly american we hated so much in past years. We need america to keep its soul to keep its heart, to keep its diversity, to keep building what you have already built, and this how can we say that one guy comes here and tells 350 million that you were wrong for a long time. The American Dream dust xi anybody. That america is losers. Calling all of you losers. Why do we accept that . Its not acceptable. I know he will give us corn, like you give to the chicken. Given to the business community, okay you get a tax cut. Now you do what i say. Thats what he is telling them. You cry i dont want you investing in mexico. You build the plan. Jesus christ, how can be submit to an authoritarian . I mean, his brilliant . A genius like he says . What do you think . Ha. Why do you ask me . How many damage has he done . People go back and forth. Much. How much. Much, much, hes getting hate, in all the world. When you raise hate you pay it. Its recoverable . I mean, this nation, abandoning its leadership position. Look at china. Everything can america recover from this . Can the United States. If you can get rid of him, yes. Ive been working with venezuelans, i went to venezuela to fight against the hugo chavez and the other guy. We have been able to get rid of him. Dictators, once they get power this, smell power and they feel powerful, and he is beginning to feel like that, genius, powerful man. I read, north korea, no. The red button. So quiet down. Calm down. This incredible impression of United States playing war games with that kid . With that stupid kid . Well, anyway. Its nice to see how passionate you are. If youre up here you can really feel it coming through you. Two quick things and then i have have javier turn it over to other people who have questions here. Theres been a lot of discussion about the strategies of the democrats here. Have they caved too much . Have they not played this right . This guy isnt some people think the best dealmaker, and what is your thought . Because this is so close to your heart. My thought is that hillary would not come back, the leader of the democrats. The democrats on he will with a daca. Obama should have tried it. But she rather stay away from politics, and believe me, i do, too. Its tough to be there. In my reincarnation in this world i have a choice, were have stayed on the private sector. Too much hypocrisy here. If you did it over you wouldnt be the president that smashed no, im honored and have great joy in really enjoyed it, but i would have a choice again, i like straightforward people, straightforward thinking, i like the truth and nothing but the truth and politic is not that. We have a saying in mexico enwhen youre in politics, you build the wall, with you buttocks back there. So you thought thats politics. Michelle obama should have run for president . She is a believer. Right now, i think she has the obligation to obama should be more present, but i have to see the future. What you have, john kerry, joe bidden, theyre great guys. Because oprah, i mean, its she will have to work through the same process of learning. You dont go to politic if youre the king, no. You have to start in grassroots and then move to municipality and then you are governor, then congressman, and then you learn the senator and then actually brings up a good point because the demographics of the country there are tens of milks of people who consider themselves hispanic. Many people are saying that we will have a hispanic president soon. Who will that be in who do you think . I think we are all leaders. Thats our mantra. You jump in and become a leader. But we should i think the opportunity is now because we need leaders. California is low fruit hanging there for hispanic becoming governor, and one tried it and didnt make it, but thats the places we should be. Dont jump up herement you have to go through stage, you have to go to congress, have to go from there. But if there was a plan in always is a plan needed, dont buy you can get them there, and thats very important. Thats exactly what i think is not going on right now within the democratic party. Not on democrat by the way, my fill asty and thinking i minute more republican, but a real republican. Not a [speaking spanish] just about the democrats right now on the hill, negotiating for very, very important things, the wall, and daca. How are they doing . Nafta. And nafta. I think thats what has to happen. Congress should get involved. Are they doing enough . The problem is, when you hear a senator saying that they have to prepare something that trump will accept, thats the wrong principle in democracy. In mexico we say, the president proposes, and congress disposes. So, its the president that has to go to congress and try to get what he wants, not the Congress Giving trump what he wants. This is [speaking spanish] last thing. Theres been a lot of discussion about at the trump effect on president ial politics in mexico. And that the opposition he is i mean, its the day he was echecked were pinat toes peep were smash and hes so disliked it has had a bleedover effect. What is the effect on mexicans, president ial politics. [speaking in native tongue] in the west there was a Strong Influence of the United States and mexican politics. But will it swing it very last . We have to solve the problem. [speaking in native tongue] [laughter] he sent five people to where i went and he will not and im working to not get there. Mexico cannot take that risk. We have to understand that this holds promise and then they dont deliver and i met hugo chavez when he was elected democratically with the extent of the votes in venezuela and everyone was happy and i once he sat in the chair of power he changed. He had plans and this is exactly like the practice. Before i turn to javier, i wanted to say congratulations and this is a very good read and you wont be disappointed because he says things like donald trump has absolutely no government experience of any kind pretty send multiple marriages, filed six vacancies and been involved in over 3500 legal actions and it goes on to say it is just the joy of some of the words you use here is a vulgar, money cover who made his wealth of the backs of the goal. Its not dull is the point and congratulations on your book. [applause] we will take a couple of questions from the news. Its the Dallas Morning News here, nicole, she in the room . Let me move on that. Sabrina rodriguez with politico . Carlos with the Associated Press . David with the daily mail . Or brandy buckman with the courthouse news . Randy lindy with cnn sister i would like to get your take on what you would tell supporters of President Trump or his loyalists who live in the United States what would you tell them about the policies that are generating all this chaos and this dissension . Any advice to them . They are very, very strong supporters who is down to barry five and 40 approval and he is not moved from that and we beg him to consideration the election and of course he had 45 of the votes but 50 of American People did not go to vote and that is a problem. When everyone doesnt go to vote because at the end he has the support of 30 of the population. Thats all he has. He should understand that that cannot just do what he wants or what his base forms. Its another 70 of their that is not with him and that he is not convinced and he is not trying to reach out and thats the first job of the president is to unite the nation and to reach out to everyone. We start ranking the problems according to Public Opinion and senator and congress and then you have a plan but no he was in business and thats the unfortunate thing of moving from Business World politics and in business the ceo the mans and he instructs and everyone has to do what he says and that is not true in politics. Thats the first lesson that he has yet not yet learned as though i said before they are domesticating him and i cannot go along with you and i cannot do that in seeing the spells out i am sure so i hope that is what will happen. Is [inaudible] from spain . Al jazeera . Okay. Any questions from our friends at lulac question roger or brent . For those of us value and cherish our relationship with mexico what can we do to try to help restore balance to the relationship because, as you said, one man should not be able to tears apart so what should we do to get it back to where it should be customer. With respect. [inaudible] our citizens in a way of taking the same procedure that since Abraham Lincoln or washington and once youre here you say we are one no more. That is correct. Theres a point where this nation should administer of migration and it was very clear in the past that there is of was that all the mexicans that came here because someone called them and give them a job so it has an economic principle that demand of job was here and they saw and they came and they were received and protected and even accepted as though they were undocumented. Now that economy is not running well and that you dont want them and you kick them out again. Just remember what happened right after world war ii. This nation sends its men to war, all of them and the women with courage here took responsibility and women went to do the jobs but it was not enough. What was the answer bring into million mexicans and they didnt come here and they didnt lock the door. The United States said i need to million mexicans and they brought them here and they work hard play for hours a day and they had help this nation to come along and they helped to keep the factories going and once the war was over, mexicans, go back. No social security, no nothing, just minimum wage they give here. We are friends with part of the nation we are neighbors and north americans and together we do the things that the world needs and i think its great that we have canada and mexico and we are part of it. Were not the little guy in the backyard. We spoke about how much by here and we are off the partnership we created together and we protect these factories not come to mexico. By the way, the Mexican Cartel is depending on the qualities of [inaudible] out there which is run by americans and they bring in the drugs, american taxpayers, they collect and then they buy the drugs where the mexicans transport this from columbia and from there and the problem is here not only consumption but those who conduct Like Ford Motor Company has headquarters in dearborn, michigan. The cartel has headquarters and they operate in colombia and mexico and we pay 8,080,000 kids die every year in mexico, kids and they do not have the opportunity to have a job and they do not have the opportunity to go to school is a didnt get their daca scholarship and we go to work for, the cartel. They pay them double the salary that General Motors is paying to go work for them and so what is the option. We have to get out of this trap and make people get out of this trap. Besides all of that we accuse of what is happening in mexico why are they killing each other estimates by the way, crime rate in mexico is 16. 5 crimes [inaudible] 20 cities here in the United States way over and above that up to 50 crimes and no one says nothing about nothing. [inaudible] [laughter] one more question from political. My question is relating to nafta and you talked about the two options to stay in or to draw but now that the negotiations are happening in montreal right now what do you consider to be a good deal now and how do you feel about the mexican negotiating has handled things apart . I think there are improvements to be made to nafta. For instance, i go along with the demand to make increase in salaries. I think that as we had minimum wage and you have minimum wage for different professions and skills that will go up and up we should have one for anyone who have a higher minimum wage and that i think should be done and i hope is one of the outcomes for nafta number two we need financial world move but is not regulated does not appear in nafta. A lot of that could be worked out and then we have acknowledged schools and universities also not enough and at the very end the number one key issue is we are partners. We are north america and we have right and compete with our places in the world. As i said, ford and gm did not come to peace with mercedes and [inaudible]. They beat the hell out of them and they said people 40 of automobiles in mexico come from the United States. The full production chain is thoroughly degraded to the benefit of everybody. Ladies and gentlemen, i have to tell you as i was sitting here it struck me that one president box spoke of his love of immigrants and how those of the people that he enjoys most seen and as a son of immigrant parents as the son of the youngest of ten racist is a migrant farmworker and i learned the language english as a second language and i live in a from one room house with no running water, no electricity and an outhouse for a bathroom so you can imagine my pride standing on the stage with this amazing woman and the school visionary leader.
