Critical look at the evidence offered by Climate Change proponents in the Scientific Community including evidence generated by computerbased models. He spoke at the 10th International Conference on Climate Change held in washington, d. C. Good morning everybody. I spent about 16 years in the newspaper business before i director joe anaheim as a Communications Director for one of the most prestigious free market think tanks in the world. Joe is new so would appreciate if we just kept that in thein room. That would be very nice of you. The for any millennials especially watching the live stream a newspaper is a product [laughter] is a product does put into a plastic bag, thrown onto wet t driveway. And only 11 she needed to li e toream, a you once a day. [laughter] as opposed to writing on your phone whenwe you get those lies all day long. On when i was in the newspaper business i was a buddingur d columnist and that is when i came across one mark steyn in his writing. I came across mark steyn and i realized i need to get out of the column writing business. [laughter] i am no good. I dont know how to do that. Because relate the has no peers and the commentary game he is the greatest writer of the english language in the western world with his insight his laugh aloud lines there is none for that anywhere and a lot of columnist who writes for a living know that they are not mark steyn either. [laughter] but we still have to read them. But it takes me five times as long to get through piece by mark steyn than a normal call on because you stop and back up and read it again. Then you backed up and read it again then you can call your spouse. I have to read this. Sit down. Then you both laugh out loud but also think that is such insight and power in nobody writes quite like that and i am sure a lot of people who also read him in that way. The also a man of very talented interest a connoisseur of show tunes and broadway of american standards and mark steyn is of the american standards of few years back from his website i downloaded a duet of him. Christmas does not start until i play to a nine at christmas a marshmallow world if you hear that one time you will never forget it. It plays in my head all morning but it is outstanding and fills the season with more july when you get that it will become a part of your holiday tradition. Known as the undocumented anchor man when filling in for Rush Limbaugh and i also understand you are keeper of the temperature at the ice station. [laughter] so when they try to adjust the temperature to make it more severe he will be there he will have the real data it they cannot get away with it. Is also the second most famous climate litigator. [laughter] the first of course, is the special snowflake, Nobel Prize Winner, michael mann. The reason why mark steyn is number two is because he has countersued michael mann because we will get to the bottom of this to stop having a legal system to bully people to stand up for free speech and sound science and mark steyn is doing best. [applause] it takes an enormous amount of courage and an enormous amount of money. He famously does not have a Legal Defense fund he prefers to do it with the free market capitalism way to sell his wares. I recommend all of you to support this fight for free speech and sound science that you buy many of his outstanding books which i have done it is terrific and that is how you can support this very important to work. One of the books you can get there is a new title called a disgrace to the profession i will leave it to do you food that book is about. [laughter] and what is the profession. [laughter] the author of the number one climatology blockbuster Climate Change the facts they are running out of because it is such a great book many coauthors are here in the audience today they were kind enough to sign copies for everybody hear i hope their hand has recovered. Science director from the Heartland Institute calls this book the best book on Climate Change for a general audience that has ever been put together and you will certainly agree. It is my great pleasure and honor to bring to the stage ladies and gentlemen mark steyn. [applause] thank you very much. It is a great pleasure to be here and a great honor to be here at the Heartland Institute that is absolutely indispensable begin of sanity on this issue. [applause] i am also honored to be here with the eminent scientist that i share the pages of our book Climate Change the facts. Scott armstrong, Willie Michaels and Anthony Watts that you have just heard from. Were all in the book you dont have to wait for us to write 25 different books you get the best version. But i have made no useful scientific contribution. I was only invited because i am being sued by the inventor of the Global Warming hockey stick michael mann. I wish that were a more exclusive club actually but in this very room i have met a couple of others he has threatened and my fellow canadian is also here to he is suing in British Columbia. I am canadian but michael mann seems to be so bad. [laughter] that is the only phobia you are still allowed to have an america. [laughter] it is payback for the war of 1812. [laughter] i am here because he is suing me that is not a useful contribution on my part but if i win if he loses i think that is a lasting contribution. [applause] i understand my limitations it is up there with sir isaac newton but that kind of level. The trial will be right here in the district of Columbia Superior Court and my lawyer is actually here today. Point last year in a trade secrets case he had a big payout of dupont 919 million. He promised me we can take dr. Michael mann for about the same. [laughter] now as most of you know, lawyers are delighted when clients talk about the case in public. [laughter] because it can cause problems with the judge. You have heard that . I have never heard that and tell this morning. [laughter] and tell dave mentioned it to me just before breakfast and i have already written my speech i am bad living so it is too late to change that. Soap i will quickly tell you where i stand. This monday is the 108 800 anniversary of magna card debt. [applause] i see one of the majestys canadian subjects which that they forced him to agree to june 15th much will 51 i was a schoolboy we were taught english of 1251 is the degree warmer and today and to go is far north if you wonder where the island is it is a stones throw from the Climatic Research unit stands today. [laughter] so i will take a Global Warming seriously when they tear down the Climatic Research unit and so a vineyard. [laughter] [applause] and and tell michael mann it abolishes the period with the wave of his magic hockey stick it was acknowledged the beneficial phenomenon of the flourishing of the economy and agriculture industry, science, as in the magna carta the great charter apparently they dont have that here in the District Of Columbia. They have another law that so far is nowhere near as good unfortunately. After that medieval period we have the ice age that the warming since the 19th century i except the planet is warming and i rejoice because it has been hugely beneficial to mankind for cry manchin i am canadian the entire Political Economic and Cultural Development in my country has taken place during this morning period per the First Response of all government of the British Empire 1867 the birth of the dominion and my entire nation has been the beneficiary of the warming trend. The river is a statistic you may be familiar with that 90 percent of the population can tell lives within 100 miles of the u. S. Border. Why . Beyond that it is freezing cold. [laughter] when the revolutionaries carved up the continental should have done in north and south. I was talking to a professor yesterday and he said he moved from alberta to British Columbia because it was warmer that is like moving from louisiana to mississippi for the skiing. [laughter] so 90 percent live within 100 miles of the u. S. Border and if we had not had the warming of the last century of of the never delivered within 100 yards just like one long Condo Development along the 49th parallel. [laughter] so when i first saw the michael mann hockey stick 50 years ago i reacted as if the professor of physics dead if you have not heard the this fox ridge university of it it is sound group where you can download a diploma nobody takes it seriously. Professor jones says like many people i was dragged into this by a hockey stick looking up a minor detail of the war period to discover a weird parallel universe of people who did not believe that have been an even more bizarre that nothing had happened before the 20th century. A hockey stick is an extraordinary claim that requires extraordinary evidence away started to read around the subject in became clear the most extraordinary thing is how extraordinarily weak it was hand how desperate the defenders were. Ill is had an interest in pathological science. [laughter] and it looks like i might have stumbled across a really good modern example. [laughter] i agree with that. For a generation of people, michael mann abolish natalie the medieval warm period but the entire concept of natural Climate Variability to talk to the gong activists who were forced said this sense conduct kindergarten they dont know with natural Climate Variability is. I called a hockey stick fraudulent because it is a construction from which it has been used every school house and most governments throughout the western world it is called a proxy reconstruction. Theyre only two problems with it the proxy edam the reconstruction of. [laughter] other than that it is fine. But my government not mind i dont want to make it sound like the was responsible but her majesty use the hockey stick to sell kyoto to the canadian people and also down in new zealand and virtually every other advanced nation except the United States and between so real people paid a real price i kollek fraudulent and National Review and michael mann sued me for defamation he does not live or work in the District Of Columbia to the i voluntarily submitted because i thought if they were so eager to take the case they could litigate blob post in under 270 weeks. We are now coming up to the start of the fourth year. Is this a section of mocking and snaring of the d. C. Court . [laughter] okay. [laughter] [cheers and applause] not every part of this case is their fault. Michael may his lawyer John Williams tried to sneak in here without paying yesterday. I am being serious. He had to be escorted out. This is such a racist society when they would gate crasher pool party the cops would cuss them out they draw guns and day throw the teenagers to the ground in bikinis but michael mann lawyer gate crashes the big party he is politely asked to leave. Camp come on. Give him the taser. [laughter] but i mention it because from what sounded like occasional thumps against though wall that was michael mans lawyer rappelling down the ventilation shaft to get in place before breakfast. [laughter] what was that make . About the other guys lawyer . It makes a harder to reach a settlement . [laughter] not all of the delay is the fault of the courts the aforementioned mr. Williams filed a complaint with the superior court accusing me of professional and personal defamation of a nobel prize recipient. [laughter] this was a hitherto unknown crime to be but defamation of the nobel prize recipient . That is not in the magna carta but apparently a crime in the District Of Columbia. Until then i had no idea michael mann was a Nobel Prize Winner and as it turns out later to the nobel institute. [laughter] [cheers and applause] a couple of reporters called them up and the then director of the institute said mcmichael man has never been awarded the nobel feet peace prize that is what he can claims to have one that defamation of the nobel prize recipient not just the peace prize winner where you stand is not all of fame between Yasser Arafat and al gore. [laughter] but a bonafide Nobel Prize Winner with einstein and all the rest he claims to be a Nobel Laureate because in 2007 as an institution it received the Nobel Peace Prize in she was one of thousands upon thousands of people who were associated with it since 1990. A couple of years later the European Union won the Nobel Peace Prize so with that criteria of the e. U. Has 500 million Nobel Laureates you cannot swing a cat over there without hitting a Nobel Laureate. [laughter] you can go to a nude beach in the south of france in august and its wall to wall naked laureates. The closest you will get to see the girl from ipanema. As a Nobel Laureate monica is belgians live a twotime lauria. Eat your heart out. To me this is important because it gets to the heart of the bubble that these people live in. Why would they think twice about adjusting . The man seriously believes the champion of laureates can be adjusted to include himself why would he be bothered about adjusting the 1915 temperature . What is the big deal if you seriously believe yourself to be a Nobel Laureate as thousands of these guys do . That is what i have no qualms to adjust the temperature record of the last century announced last week i was absolutely stunned the most dramatically adjusted figure that i had seen since caitlin jenner. [laughter] if the take michael mann of the equation, of lot of the moderates and the rest like dr. Richard bets and edwards from in england they both said they dont think the term denier is useful who uses that more than anybody else . Dr. Mann has called almost everybody here a denier. Joe bass, John Coleman Roy Spencer and the watts watts, extremist. [laughter] u. N. U. N. , anthony. [laughter] there used to be a thing on broadway offbroadway and i think sam shepard wrote one end at one point there was a Stillborn Baby and they just buried in the yard and nobody mentioned it. Even though no one mentioned it the less they talked about it the worse it got it affected employs and everything they did. If they can redo the third assessment report of the ipcc they would not put everything on the hockey stick. They think they can get away with just not mentioning a but to ignore that try not to catch his eye. The fascinating thing about this emails isnt the science with the doubts that were well known but the fact the actual personal relationships between may and and those who sound like his battered wife. They tried to avoid another slap from him but didnt actually want to get out and walk away. But they have to walk away from a hockey stick and peace seemed to do so for the integrity of science and [applause] this conference is called a fresh start and that is wet Climate Science needs i urge you to read the piece and the australian magazine this month that takes of wild ride on the hockey stick to scions to draw a clear line to read mitt the last 50 years that it corrected everything it touched from the of prestigious journal nature, a peer review review, governments that embraced it, the Climatic Research unit that passed the founders legacy they did it slowed of building that was one of the greatest climatologist in the 20th century and a slash his legacy to take a ride on the michael mann coattails. [applause] klein is science has to make of fresh start to get beyond this because they will sound ridiculous. We heard earlier that many people have not fallen for this and it takes a great courage. Most of us are not galileo. I am glad they said imagine right galileo could have done if he had the internet. Most of us are not. Most people want to be like most people and look at the polls that Climate Changes not important it is number 99 my best of concerns consider abc and nbc and bbc and cbs and the New York Times and the times of london and everyone else has shoved this down peoples throats 20 years and they are still refusing to swallow it it is extremely unusual given the level of propaganda control that is why a fresh start is possible but a requires Climate Science to recover its integrity to climb off a the hockey stick. Thank you very much indeed. [cheers and applause] [applause] [inaudible conversations] we have ted minutes available for questions for everything you said must be phrased in the form of a question. No questions . Really . Just to clarify he sued to end you countersued are both active . Yes they are. I can tell you are as gore into this jurisdiction as i am. Most no only to new things about the American Court system that it takes years of your life and it is incredibly expensive but i did not realize that it takes decades of your life and is even more expensive. That antislap law that allows you to get the suit dismissed quickly it is a strategic lawsuits against Public Participation he sues people like me so instead of going on the internet or radio or stage to talk about michael mann by just confering with lawyers all day long fed we have no time and he takes us out of the game so they invented this thing called the antislapp law where you get these cases dismissed quickly because it is a Public Policy issue he wants to collapse the western economy and i dont. [laughter] that is something you should talk about it in the newspapers and television but not in the courts which i am confident for that. So it is supposed to get the case dismissed quickly but now the Appeals Court judges are now deciding if this slapp lot is appealable because when they wrote it they did not know if the law itself could be appealed. Is the test case you have to know how thrilled i am to be part of the american test case. [laughter] ice third discovery on him one year ago. He asked for my discovery and the 23 cheap jokes i made about him in the last 15 years and then when i asked for discovery back he asked the Court Tuesday discovery so that is the stage wrapper i have countersued at 30 million provide think initially it was 10 billion but it is like dr. Evil it doesnt impress anybody so we would bump it up. Judging from the sales of his brand new book, he will be on the book tour to recover that twothirds of the next millennium but i think we will go to trial and it is a freespeech case it is the most important freespeech case in half a century i called his hockey stick fraud since the year 2001 in the National Post of canada and Australia National newspaper hinted the United Kingdom the telegraph and probably a lot of other newspapers around the world. [laughter] day are from dead general area they are in the general area. But if man was he could be able to say things in canada as the United Kingdom and australia and do zealand that you cannot say in the United States. I do not believe that it was the intention of the framers of the First Amendment that americans should have fewer free speech rights in countries which remain within the British Empire. It is an important freespeech case, the most important for half a century and if he loses it will be a great victory for the First Amendment and if he wins it will be an absolute catastrophe. His hockey stick will have smashed the First Amendment into pieces. I am sure other people are thinking the same thing would you like to sing a few bars for us . [cheers and applause] no. I did that in front of the first judge. [laughter] she resigned from the case. She said i will take another 20 years then to have them do another eight bars and then from the sec can judge he added another seven charges to the complaint just for him so it gets worse. I was a contributing author to the it cc report period summary trying to tell me youre taking my nobel prize away from me . [laughter] yes. [laughter] i am. Michael mann, he had resisted the things that we tried to take it away we had to amend his complaint because he said he had us certificate with the railroad engineer who ran the it cc and he ran off 47,000 of these authentic looking Nobel Laureate prize certificates then you have for real nobel prize you get a medal and a big dinner with the king of sweden. And as you may recall getting into a little trouble in india his strained jumped the tracks and he had to resign from side dcc so michael man got no medal and a no king of sweden but he does have the only nobel prize awarded to him by the accused sex fiend [laughter] so that is very unique and inappropriate distinction. [laughter] but his case comes up before the high court for cry would give anything be in a the high court because he will be halfway through the 20 year jail term before my case comes to trial. One last question. I am interested to is funding the other side . I think that is the real horror of the case is university of pennsylvania actually helping . It is penn states. I dont believe they are there is something called the Climate Science defense fund and they are apparently finding it and one final thing i will say that it is an important point anarchy briefs were filed last fall and all kinds of people filed these priests including nbc, los angeles times, Washington Post not because any of them them, theyll agree with him with acclimatized alarm is of that they understand this is a disaster for free speech in the United States if he wins. I am thrilled to find myself looking at this case the same way as the aclu and the Washington Post. It is unusual because we think it is a freespeech case he thinks it is about taking a stand for science. But yet not one single scientist or one Scientific Academy filed the amicus brief on his behalf and that is the lesson of this
