Capitol, democrats and republicans gather in solidarity for a vigil to honor the people of israel following the deadly hamas attacks. Among the dead are 27 americans with an additional 14 still unaccounted for. This is about 10 minutes. Good evening. Im josh from new jersey. I just want to thank Deborah Wassermann Schultz for organizing and the leader Hakeem Jeffries for his phenomenal words and efforts for bringing us together this evening and katherine and our entire Leadership Team and everyone on both sides of the isle to remember those who lost their lives and, including Many Americans and to pray for the hostages and the missing. Id now like to turn it over to debbie. Debbie thanks you, josh. Thank you for your leadership. Thank you, leader jeffries, and really all our colleagues, republican and democratic alike. I cant tell you the short period of time that it took to bring this many members together. For me as a member of congress, as a jew, as a zionist, as a human being, this moment of us coming together, whether its the disorganization and disunity in israel prior to this point or here in our country, when israel and the United States need one another, its moments like this where we step up and it is actions that matter so much more than words. Thank you to our colleagues and wed like to recognize chap kibbens to give our prayer and a ask for a moment of silence. Chaplain kibbens you see in a moment of a National Crises it has a way of touching each of us in so many different ways and that we are so very different and yet there is more that unites us than divides us, so this evening, depending on your faith, tradition, where you stand, would you unite in allowing our words, my words, our thoughts, our prayers to be united as we pray for israel. If you would, please pray with me. God, you are our refuge and our strength. And an ever present help in times of trouble. We pray then for healing, we pray for healing for israel as a nation, for all that they are enduring at this moment that has come for them from so many Different Directions and unexpectedly and devastatingly. We pray also for healing for individuals of those in israel, for those who are enduring deep grief and inexplicable loss. We pray that you would heal the brokenhearted and bandage their wounds. We pray also for their protection, for nothing is yet settled so we ask your hedge to be surrounding them, that they would be covered in such a way that they would know you abide with them in these moments, that you would defend them. We pray for their restoration, certainly as a country, but for those hostages who have been kidnapped, restore them to their families, for soldiers that have been taken captive, retore store them to their units and service to their country. Almighty god, we pray for justice when so much injustice has taken place, for the innocent victims who have been slaughtered, we pray that your justice would prevail. For those who have suffered who have been taken from their homes who have lost so much of their lives, for all those who are innocent in these times, we pray that your justice would rule. We pray for peace, as the psalmist said, we pray for the peace of jerusalem. We ask in this time of turmoil and tragedy that your peace would descend on this chaos and bring order once again. May there be peace even in loss, that the memories of those who have been taken from us would be a blessing to those who remain. We pray for courage, to face the days ahead, for there is so much uncertainty that lies before us that we need courage and faith, the faith that transcends who we are as humanitiy, that transcends our differences and allows us to overcome divisiveness but act with wisdom and clarity, in faith, may communication and understanding come forward. God, you are our refuge and our strength and ever present help in times of trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though everything around us on on the earth gives way, though mountains of nations fall into the heart of the sea, lord god almighty, you are with us. O god of jacob, you are our fortress. It is in the strength of your name we pray, amen. Now i ask everyone to join me in a moment of silence to remember the innocent lives lost in israel, those that are missing and their loved ones as we pray for our historic ally whose people are suffering, as we stand strong as americans behind her, please join us in a moment of silence. Thank you. And thank you again to all my colleagues for joining us. You see all of us as a country coming together, democrats and republicans. Theres nothing that divides us on this issue, as members of congress who care about our country. Id like to take a moment as a republican member of the House Foreign Affairs committee as a vice chair, someone who is in the league of delegation of women in israel this month on a bipartisan basis, we are devastated. Im the cochair of the abraham caucus and this is a blow to us on a bipartisan basis that is so devastating, the civilians, the civilians, the loss of women, children, families is beyond belief. We will not stand for this in congress, as mothers, as fathers, as grandmothers. We are here to say that we stand with israel and the eradication of the terrorist group of hamas. Were here tonight to pray for all of us, thank you, chaplain, for your kind and wonderful and inspiring words. I thank my colleagues here on the democrat side of the aisle, i want to stand here as a republican and say that we are united. We are united in our support, in our strength of israel, and the right to defend themselves. And we pray for all those who have lost their lives. We pray for their families, we pray for those to continue this fight as we do, together. Thank so you much. Debbie i wanted to close by saying an expression in hebrew about israel living forever. So i want to close by saying [speaking in hebrew] good night. God bless. Thank you so much. Healthy democracy doesnt just look like this.
