Side of the aisle, as you say in washington. We are excited to have two julie conwaywti, and rebecca. Things see both for being here. Sure. I want to let everybody know we will save time for questions. Free asked questions during the discussion and you will be up to a vote other peoples questions. If you missed any discussion, we will have the same podcast to register. , let me rewindgo the clock a bit to the 2018 midterms. It was not a great year for republicans. Only themen, number of republican women fell to 13. That was compared to 88 Democratic Women in the house. Needless to say you have had your work cut out for you. I wonder if you can give assistance of your organization and what your strategy has been and what your forecast is in the next two weeks. Lets start with you. Vew pack. We are expecting great things in 13 days. We have them working really hard. It has been a record year in terms of republican women and signing up to vote two run. 208 is the magic number, which is twice what it was before. We have 94 women running for the u. S. House, which is extraordinary. We are excited about that. A lot of Democratic Women are in the house. We know that we will make inroads this cycle. Heavily geared to win already. I do not know how deep you want to go on that. We can get into more specific places . Yes. Lets talk about that. This is something to watch as the election clock clicks down and we are watching the news and the elect the election returns. Yes, absolutely. Thank you for having us. This doif it is like show both sides of the momentum that is kind republican women. As you mentioned, im deeply involved with an Organization Called women for women. Under that auspice, we have a few organizations. Women for women. , women have a super pac for action fund. We were founded to come in and work with organizations. Someave probably heard of of these others, really to try to come in and correct that ratio of goplanced women in the house and. We personally found 2018 to be the rallying cry when we saw those numbers slip. I think that really showed all of us the true mean for efficient, wellrun organizations that could come in and do justice, get these women in and figure out how to help them through the election cycle. Into all ofll get this, but where we have seen a real deficiency on the gop side, this is something the left has been pretty good at doing we are here to make sure that our women are getting the same set or. You going about finding and recruiting women to run this year . Doesnt good question and one that i think has plagued our site for quite a while. We can develop those relationships and identify candidates early, one of the true challenges is if you do not have a binge and youre not looking at few election cycles out, youre not going to have too many women when the opportunity comes out. Day 2018efore election we looking at a map to try to figure out where were the opportunities, where were the candidates through the state legislatures, organizations, and we would go and talk to them. And again, you have seen real evidence this year we are at record numbers of women who have filed to run as republican, and that translated to record numbers of women in the general. There are Success Stories. I think we are seeing a positive with republican women candidates, particularly in the house. The widthnk 2018 was of call or one of the other reasons for this increase in republican women . I think it was a wakeup call. Republican women saw Democratic Women get elected. And the things that Democratic Women were talking about were not the things that Democratic Women were talking about. We have not seen anything like this for. It was probably during march and april. I talked to more women considering running then i did during the entire 2018 cycle. There has been a foundation that has been built, and it has taken us a long time to till the ground. Have always got involved in primaries. The always been where we started. There is no way to get a woman she a general election you haveprimary and more organizations like rebeccas, like women winning for women. It makes a big difference and we have definitely seen that success this year. Republicans shy away from gender politics, identity politics. Is that a factor. Why is that maybe now changing . I will take it. It has been a problem. Sadly, the concept of that, let the best man win, it can be a disadvantage. There needs to be leveling of the Playing Field. A lot of it has to do with institutional support. And i think we have started to build that. If you go to who is going to be the best candidate in november, you have to Pay Attention to the candidates running in the primary. Sometimes the best candidate is a woman. We have to give her enough people are already behind her. Getoes winning for women involved in the primaries that early as well . Yes. Thatl bring up a race people like to hide a little bit. We launched our action fund to deal with these special election down in north carolina. There was an exemplary candidate. It turned out she did not ultimately triumph in the we saw this wonderful candidate who just was not going to get any recognition , who had zero tools to make a real run. We got involved, julie got involved. Members got involved. It was a clarion call for what we could do, especially if we learned how to Work Together, came in and gave her the publicity and all of that that she needed and i think that 2019 and 20. Y set if i recall, the best attack was against her was she might compromise the election, that she was not conservative an . Exactly. , womenou see that candidates, too much in the middle, ashley if theyre running against the one who is. Ore conservative . I do you are right. You are spot on. That was a perfect example. I would argue that dr. Perry was more conservative than the gentleman who ended up winning. But she was a woman and people assume if you have two resumes next to each other, one is a man, one is a woman with the exact same qualifications, if you want one that is more conservative, it will be the man. I think a couple things happened. We learned a lot. So, we all work hand in glove now which was not the way of the past. Mean we talk all the time. In the idea of that when we Work Together we can accomplish great things. Theing for women, doing hard dollars, the expenditures and the outside, congressman tavon it has used her Leadership Back to say, tryingre our candidates to get them to follow that lead. Theres a great headwind. The other thing i will point to, she was the first woman share the incumbent community. Those a huge difference. Guide,ad a self funding we would follow that up in 2020. Thatkes a big difference if conceivably if there is a qualified, credible woman willing to do this that we really looked for her, even if had someone in that seeds seat. We spoke to congressman brooks about the recruitment. Ffort, specifically for women i went to ask you along the same lines, congresswoman stuff on fromhe had pushed back republican men in leadership, which she quickly shut down. Do you think that there is an attitude change . Have you seen signs of an attitude change from the component . Leadership i do, i do. There have been stats out that showed the all of our republican opportunity to pick up see, you have these candidates, prominently women, how can you ignore that . They are winning. They are doing well. I think the country wants to see a different electorate. I have to give leadership credit. It has been a priority. That brooks has done they not job at the nrc see. I do think you see these successes that we were really seeing in 2020 kind of against the eyes this attitude. I agree 100 with rebecca. Sometimes when you see the Playing Field you realize certain things have to happen. The only way we are getting back to a majority in the house is with republican women and certainly on the senate side, we know that the balance of power rests squarely on republican women. When it helps yourself and your team youre more likely to engage. Ofse guys love the idea supporting republican women. Now it is more of a it. Ctually brings us this cycle it brings us constituencies we may have not been able to get. Just like cant find what youre not looking for in many respects. I want to talk to you guys about these Success Stories. Give us a sense of the , thedates that are running challengers, and which ones should we be watching over the net few weeks and on election day . And what are some of those Success Stories and who those candidates are. On the house side, its actually pretty easy. The top five most vulnerable are being challenged by republican women. This is really exciting. The Staten Island assemblywoman running. When we went to bed, we thought that she was winning the race, and she ended up losing when the absentees came in. The congresswoman from that district, trump won the district, so we have high. Xpectations and a couple of the really competitive ones. We have the oklahoma five, where we have 70 by running. Its the most republican seats currently with the democratic woman sitting in it. What is complicated is it was a primary, petitive cystectomy did not get the nomination until august. So sadly we have been fired the firing the guns internally and the fifth one is south mae isa five, or nancy running. The first woman to graduate from the city now. Tate wrap tremendous candidate. These five women are terrific. All different backgrounds. Some have legislative experience, some dont read some of military experience. Some dont. We go great. I have to agree with the entire list. I would be remiss if i did not seats. Ere are a few open theres the florida three. She is a former staffer. She is likely a member of congress. There is a woman named mary miller. Att number, we are starting 11. But we started out with the goal of 20. When i can map that i thought, its catchy. I dont think this is out of the in 2018 andseemed frankly, we came up with that before we knew of two retirements and then it felt really out of reach and no i dont think its out of reach. It is no a high bar, but i think its doable due to all of these wonderful women who stepped in the ring, quite frankly. , as youmportant is it talk to candidates, to run again. Candidates may be too easily discouraged sometimes, but the women running this cycle, depending on where they are running, it is a president ial year which is sometimes difficult, but talk about the ordinance of actually running. Ore than one again, and insight from 2018 was we had tremendous women running who were not successful. They wanted to come back into it again. We have women running where some of them should have one last time and for others this is a much better here to be running. And this is you cant start with a team like. We already know they will have the right consultants, which is a big deal. And its hard for women who have never done this before to know where to start. Often the guy has a bench of state reps or their buddy is a consultant and they will come up. This is a bigger challenge for women. And theres only so many good consultants out there. Is a doubleedged sword. We cant do all the things we would like to do. You mentioned the competitive races. Done souch has been much attention has been given to the historic number of republican women we have running, but theres also some reality. The cook report came out, which is pretty much the Gold Standard for tracking the horses, if you will. Out of their tossup see, the pure tossups in this country, as of today there are 26. Thats it. On their scale is lean. If you add in lean, all of the democrats in the lean column, that is 17. So weve got 43 house seats that are competitive. Out of those we have 14 republican women, which is a yourndous number, but numbers draw pretty quickly. Two of the 14 are incumbents. Running in the suburbs, pure tossup. And butler from washington three, that moves into a lean. These are two of our 11 incumbent women in the house in competitive races. I dont like to be debbie downer, but if we win it will be a huge accomplishment. My fear has always been that the narrative is going to be, lets elect 20 lets say rebecca is right, whatever the number is, we do not want the narrative to be, even though they had 228 republican women running, they only elected 20. I just caution that. We will definitely take advantage. We will go on. Is having these women running nbc and not just being on the ballot if you have a didate in a totally blew totally blew district totally blue district. I would guess the upside of that and why it still makes sense, especially when you think of being able to watch, having a woman on the ballot. Like julie,ts what are your thoughts . Like julie, we wanted to make sure we were putting an emphasis on the quality of candidate and you cannot, cannot, cannot build a movement within the party if you are fighting for your life every two years. That diagram needs to come together. You need to come up with candidates who are quality and are going to be good members of you want a large chunk of those people to come in and really grow, and i think that is something that we will see this year. We went through a list of people who are going to come in, who do have that ability. I would be remiss if i did not members ofof Great Congress and if anyone is and has time on their hands, these candidates do merit your support. Its important for us to be managing this. Speaking of incumbents, i want to talk about vulnerable incumbent senators. Joni ernst, martha mcsally. Senatee big marquee races, how do you see the state of play . Sometimes the senate gets when we areshuffle talking about this. But we have a historic nine republican female senators serving, which doesnt sound like a lot, but its a lot. Thats the good news. The bad news is six of them are up for reelection. It is fairly the way things have worked out. Mentioned she was the top one. The fate of the senate rests in the hands of Susan Collins and martha sally martha mcsally. Joni ernst. You couldve had three stronger women that do more for to luzern you live county, pennsylvania where democratic candidate joe biden and his wife dr. Jill biden are hosting another life drive and rally. [horns
