And how well he has worked with the governors. These are grandparents, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters. They all have meaning. That is why we have to double our efforts to make sure that we work harder to get through this. The saddest part of all of this is, this did not have to happen. We are now up to 22 million americans that this has affected through their jobs compounded on the lives they have lost. As we saw and we looked at what congress has been offering and is been able to pass, today we got some good news and some sad news at the same time. In the cares act, we were focusing on making sure that hospitals had the money. More than 30 billion has gone on to hospitals with another 70 billion ready to go. The state, 150 billion ready to go there. I want to make sure they are staying employed, so we created the paycheck protection for Small Businesses. I know the struggles people go through and the decisions you make around Kitchen Table, the rest that you take. My business was open, i was having a very hard time staying flow. You, just twovide pages to fill out. We had more than 5000 bags participating, and it is different from credit unions. Times allowed you to have what your expenses are. 75 of that money was used to pay your employees, and you used the other money to pay your rent and utilities. It all becomes a grant and not alone. It was so overwhelmingly taken up. I think we have done about 1. 6 million loans. That is 1. 6 million Small Businesses. We have now taken all of the money, three and 50 billion. Secretary mnuchin asked us last week if we can increase that by joining 51 billion. We need to keep people employed. The Small Businesses, restaurants, those dry cleaners, all of the different avenues. We have to open this up for nonprofits, because we know how much nonprofits and churches do for our community. It was overwhelmingly taken, so billionded another 250. Mitch mcconnell went to the week in the senate last simply to add money to something that is working. Unfortunately, we asked for unanimous consent, and the democrat said no. We continue to ask that money be put in now. Site, it to the sba tells you there is no more money. It does not have to be the case. Earlier today, the president at a bipartisan meeting with house members, republicans and democrats, we all talked about working together. I cannot understand why watching another 5 million to be employed , why nancynemployed pelosi continues will only provide Small Businesses to stay afloat to keep their people hired. Today i got a text from an individual, a Small Business in my district, and she said i just got my ppe money. I am just putting on a phone call with all of my employees why laid off that they are coming back to work next week. That is what is happening with this money. All it sickly takes is that democrats say yes. I do not know what more it takes. Have 22 million reasons for this month. This is not a time to play politics. There is an opportunity here to make this happen. I am in washington today because i want to make sure this money is not running out, that if it takes some type of negotiation, all it does is take a yes. It is one page. Lets not make it more difficult for Small Business. Thats key people hired and moving forward. There has been a number of things that have progressed year, testing. If when you look at what labs have been able to do and improve through the fda. Tests within 10 minutes. We have a saliva test moving forward as well. Ofhave got a number antibodies, and we have been talking to a number of ceos. We have the first Clinical Trial testing for a vaccine. We did not ask for this virus, but this virus is here. We did not invited, but we need to defeated. It came from a distant land that lie to us. None of this would have to happen, 95 of it in a recent study not be taking place, but now we have to defeated together. This, there will be challenges that continue to arise. It is not a time to play politics just like with Small Business. This is a time we should rise together, put people before politics and move forward. Let me stop, take some questions. There was not a negative conversation on there. There were democrats saying they wanted this money to go forward. They were praising the work he had done with governors. Lets have that same success today. I know he had more calls going. He is going to have another phone call with governors, and i think he had one lined up with senators. Today, he could be lining up guidelines. He wanted to have further discussions with governors. What he thinks, and he is working handinhand with governors. The governors run their state. When you look at the two navy ships sitting in new york and california, you look at the hospitals that this president was able to put up very quickly, and now you see other hotspots, the sharing of a number of ventilators that moved to new york that are now able to move to other states in preparation, the president will very shortly layout guidelines that states can look to as guidance on how to reopen. As we reopen this country back up, there will be hotspots, but how can we deal with that. Testing, tracing of the individual where they are, and taking care of those hotspots quickly. An update onve where think stand on whether there is an oversight board, congressional leaders are supposed to be choosing people for, i think so far we have only had one from senator schumer, one pick, and has Speaker Pelosi given you any greater insight into that select committee that she has talked about creating more than two weeks ago . There is any oversight board. In the cares act, we actually create three different oversight entities. You have one with the inspector general, and they picked they pick who runs that themselves. You have one where the president nominates an individual, the senate confirms, and that is a fiveyear timeframe, and resources were provided in the cares act for that. Those two also give oversight to the cares, and then there is one that the congressional overview, for a. 1ry leader, all person, and Speaker Pelosi and leader mcconnell decide who to have for a chair. I am talking with the individuals now, because i have a selection on that. I note leader schumer appointed somebody. Leader mcconnell is looking at individuals, and so was the speaker. We had the discussion a couple of weeks ago. Not know whyi do that was brought up. You cannot create that until the house comes back. I am not sure what duplication that would be. The idea of what the speaker talked to me about, she was saying worrying about people raising prices to masks and others at this time. My discussion was her, i thought, in the time being, why do not allow the attorney general to do that . I know the attorney general and the da has stepped up to make sure people are not price gouging in a time of need like this. I am not sure why you would have another oversight committee. We all voted on a bipartisan basis, and that is the way we did the fighting for it. Then we gave more money to the gao. There are a lot of checks and balances here, and i want to make sure we have the accountability to move forward. Can you talk a little more about this Congressional Task force. , did republicans are on it trump say anymore about how it is going to work . Rep. Mccarthy the president had rolled out a number of tax forces for industry and business, and this is another test course along with all of those that were about elected officials. It is a bipartisan group. It was a very good call today. 10 00 eastern time. The president spoke, and that he asked me to say something, and then he just took questions. I was very impressed with the spoke,of democrats who and they were giving input, ways to open the government backup, places who are hardhit, democrats from new jersey and new york, and how in those states it is different areas. Almost every single one occurred thanked kim from the very beginning on what he was able to provide from ventilators, two navy ships, and building hospitals in those regions. The Vice President was on the call as well, and so was the treasurer. He was on the call as well taking questions, and that is what we did for a full hour, just taking questions and putting out ideas. T was very broadbased , and the president wanted to continue those conversations wanted to continue those conversations. It was productive. We willan area where find places where we can work together. A lot of the conversations they had working with their own governor and my governor back and forth about what we have been able to achieve so far. And guidelines we can use to reopen the economy in a safe manner and protect the health of everyone as well. The next question comes from andrew. Situation you are confronting now where you had the 200 billion request you had ispass by unanimous roughly analogous to what you may have confronted in 2011 or the high things like jobless rates or even the cut in payroll taxes on social security. Republicans then were slow to act. Do you sense keeping that in mind, do you see some leeway to get a deal in this consensus environment . It wouldve been very difficult with john boehner or the tea party with nothing else along with it. Remember what we are dealing with. You cannot put a similar scenario to the pandemic we are dealing with right now. In modern history outside of a 9 11. You have more death now affecting more than the entire nation. You just had a third bill we walked through in bipartisanship that got held up for a week. The idea that more things had to be added. Remember, you follow this closely. When we did our second bill, even though the language was not correct, republicans moved that bill forward because they did not want to delay that. We moved it forward with an overwhelming vote on the idea that on a handshake we would fix it on monday. We wanted to put the American Public first. And we did that and made it happen. And the senate took it up and it het to the president and signed it into law. And now, everyone in the senate voted for it and it overwhelmingly passed in the house. And all we are asking now is no change to the bill but a program that is so successful, more than we ever believed and this is where secretary mnuchin deserves credit, to get it up and running and have more than almost 5000 different financial entities to loan money. To reach 1. 6 million Small Businesses. To use 350 billion. That is why they warned as earlier in the week that they needed more so we would not be at this moment in time and a Small Business would be told not to reapply. I dont think there is any apples to apples on this one in the past where you could say that someone was low to act. The administration acted very fast. It toministration asked come through. It was on one page. All we are asking for is more funding. I think the question youre asking me should be reversed. Why wont she allow more money . She said we need more for other entities. Any morespital needs money, i am willing to provide that. Right now, there is 70 billion sitting there. There is money sitting there. Thereis no money sitting Small Businesses. I cannot understand a scenario where you want to play politics with that. If you want to a quite it to republicans, when the second bill was upcoming you were here and i was here. I made the call on a verbal agreement with the speaker. We both agreed that the language written was not what we agreed to but i would say move the bill forward and i will not object and i will vote for the bill and ask our members to vote on the promise that we will fix it on monday. That is the difference if you want to compare us right now. That is the difference. In a short time period, because of the pandemic, i agreed to something i never would agree to in the past because i wanted to put the people before politics. We are in a moment in time that is not difficult. Theare ready voted for bill. You agree to the money. And it has been so successful for Small Businesses to keep people employed. 75 of all of this money goes to keep people employed. I dont know the scenario why someone has to say no to that. Our nation is not the same it was a month ago. There is plenty of time to play politics. This is not the moment in time to play politics. This monday does not go to anyone but to keep people employed. You get it as a grant only to keep people hired. That changes someones life. I have been in the situation as a Small Business sitting at the Kitchen Table wondering if i can make payroll. Putting more under my credit card.
