Transcripts For CSPAN Lara Trump Women In Workforce Panel At Womens Leadership Summit 20240713

All right. Lets get started. Hi, everybody. What a nice group of ladies to see all together. This is fantastic. Well, thank you so much for being here. And i know we have a lot of questions for you. So i want to get started. First, i have to start by asking you about the topic everybody in d. C. Is talking about, impeachment. Ok. As everyone knows president thep has decided to sit out house judiciaryy judiciary committees and i wonder why he decided that . As an american, im slightly ashamed to see the process we have played out in washington, d. C. The reality is this is based on the fact that i think very clearly the democrats seem a little scared to run against donald trump. Since he was inaugurated in 2017, the Washington Post immediately put out a story about impeaching donald trump. This is something that started way back went when. First we had the allegations of russia collusion, which two years later, the Mueller Report came out,30 million taxpayer dollars and we thought there was no collusion with russia on behalf of the president and our campaign. So now theyve switched the focus. Oh, there was a phone call with ukraine. There was no quid pro quo. The only way to get this president out of the white house is to try to impeachment. Hes bane forded no due process. So why should he go along with this process . Its clear he has a lot to say. He does have a lot to say. He can say his part of the story. Yeah, but the bottom line here is the people who will ultimately judge him will be the voters as we approach november 3rd of 2020. If you dont like the president , thats your time to vote him out of office. It should not be done based on impeachment. I think the American Public is so exhausted with this. Weve gone through this since he was elected president. Again, first starting russian collusion. Now were here with the ukraine situation. I think most people are tired of it. Most people would prefer congress to do their job. Moving things forward. We i jutches heard before i came over here there was somemoment great. I think people are getting really tired of it. Their purpose would be better served on that one to do Better Things for the country. When youre out traveling the country as you do, what are you hearing from voters . And what are you saying to voters when they criticize the president for stone walling, thats the word thats been used, democrats . Lara i generally dont hear that sentiment because i go on an airport or an airplane. My home state of South Carolina i get such positive messages from people. I cant tell you the number of pilots and flight attendants who write tell him to keep fighting. Many more than even in 2016. You to remember donald trump was an unknown in the political sphere. We all knew who donald trump was. He was a businessman. He obviously was on the apprentice and a television personality. But i think a lot of people questioned how would he be as president. Now, you see the fact that over 7 million jobs have been created. 500,000 manufacturing jobs that our previous president said would never come back have come back from overseas. We have the lowest unemployment in the history of the country. Those things matter. But unfortunately, the environment has gotten very hostile. People are scared oftentimes to support this president out wardly. But they tell me about it. And they come up to me. Those are the things that i generally here when im out across the country. President trump that impeachment is going to be stain on his legacy. He said how hard its been on his family. You think it can actually benefit him. Do you think it will help him win the election . I think when people see what is going on here, and i think people are so exhausted by this entire process. It really feels like the democrats are not willing to say donald trump is a legitimate president , that they want to redo the 2016 election and take peoples votes away. Thats what impeachment is. It removes the president from office. I think it really infuriates people out there whenever they feel that this is a president that is finally speaking their land. Doing the things, that so many president s before promised to do like moving the the embassy to israel. Thats something every president promised they would do. Leveling the travel field. I think were going to see something coming up with china soon. We see that usnca, hopefully question get it past. But really, i think that people as a whole find it offensive that voted for donald trump that this process is playing out. They dont believe he needs to be impeached. They dont see anything wrong with the phone call that spurred this whole impeachment inquiry. For people who decided or thought about it for a second maybe im not going to vote for the president and im not going to encourage people to do it, theyre still irritated by the process, theyre coming out to vote for him. Theyre telling friends and family to vote for him. I have heard people tell me all the time, i didnt vote for donald trump in 2016. And im so mad about what theyre trying to do to him that everyone i know is voting for him. I think it can be beneficial in a way because it really encourages people, you know what, theyre trying to take your vote away. Youve got to get out and vote for him in 2020. Now, i now, i have to ask you something. A poll showed that you are the eading republican to replace him. I am not running for congress. I am totally dedicated right now to making sure the president is reelected in 2020. I would say, listen, you cant rule anything out. You never know what could happen. I dont live in that district. But im truly honored that anyone would consider me. I was sort of shocked. And a reporter said could you comment on the poll about you running for congress . Im sorry, im not sure at whall youre talking about. That was a really nice thing to hear. Im currently not running for congress. It doesnt sound like youre ruling something down the road though. I think we need a good decompression from politics. But never say never. Obviously, youre working on the president s campaign. And youve been working try to attract more women to President Trumps campaign. I wonder if you could tell us a couple of ways youre doing that. In 2016, the way i got involved in the president s campaign i mean it was sort of you know, grassroots, i guess you would say. I worked for inside edition for years. I flew to see my fatherinlaw. One thing led to another and its such a donald trump thing to do. But at the owned of that trip he said im going to put you in charge of winning north carolina. Not a big deal, right . Huge deal. I was freaking out. But i of course said, i would love to do that. I put together a group of women. We got a bus and we were shocked by the people who came out to see us. Were replicating that now but in a much bigger fashion. We have our women for Trump Coalition that we launched back in the summer. Really the way we are encouraging women by talking to their friends by talking to their Family Members, to the parents at their kids school hosting events. Ill talk about supporting the president and getting out there and talking about the fact that they support the community. A lot of people are very nervous to support the president. Thats what were doing. Obviously with the campaign is to talk about the chings that have been accomplished in this country. Whether youre a man or a woman, the results speak to themselves, even million jobs created, half of those went to in this country under this president. Those sorts of things we have to get out there and remind people as we approach 2020. Women overwhelmingly voted for democrats in 2016 and 2018. Im wondering and actually i was going to mention we have a recent nool showed the Approval Rating with swim a Morning Consult politico poll was at 34 . What does he need to do . Does he need to stop talking about hot button issues like immigration and gun rights and talk about other issues . I think at the end of the day, listen, polls have never really fully reflected peoples opinion on this president. Ost of the polling showed that the next president would have been hillary clinton. And it was donald trump. The way we measure things in the campaign and a better barometer was fundraising. About 25 of our fundraising came from women. Now in 2019, we are seeing that about 50 is coming from women. While they may not be talking to a polster, they are donating to this campaign. B how about the white suburban women . Thats part of our women for Trump Coalition. Were encouraging women if you live in a small city or a big tony town to talk to people and to support this president and talk about the accomplishments. People resident just read the headlines. Most of our Media Coverage has been negative since the day he was elected president. If youre only getting that information you talk to somebody that you know youre similar with and theyre like do you know about this, this or this . I think were making some head ways are. I know youre busy on the democratic side we have a big fight going on for the nomination. Amy klobachar said that male and female president ial candidates are treated differently. And i was wondering today in 2019 if you think women candidates are treated differently . I mean, for my view, no. I think that listen, weve all been able to see the debates. And everyone gets their appropriate spot on stage and equal amount of time to speak. They have just as much opportunity as anyone to get out there and campaign and be on television and get their message out there. Im not sure, you know, exactly what she meant by that, to be honest with you. But from my spers speckity and the way that i can see it, i would say its been a pretty fair process. Ok. Now i wanted to turn the top toik something thats very important to moment im a board member of the white house corns association. So im fighting for access for the media every day. You studied communications in college. You briefly worked at a news station in north carolina. And then you mentioned inside edition. President trump as you know has mentioned several times that the media is the enemy of the people. I wonder if you agree with that statement . Think its for the American People to decide. If you look at this Overall Coverage of this president and f you look at the fact that 96 of his Media Coverage has been negative. Think about trying to do your job when 896 is negative about you. It feels that people are constantly attack you. It does become worrisome when the media instead of reporting the news is dictating the news as they want you to see it. And i think that has been his main problem since day one. Sort of sounds like you agree then . Well, i wouldnt say that i agree or disagree. Its up to the American People to decide. But for me it does get frustrating as not only as Senior Advisor to the company but as a Family Member to see the constant negative against him. Its just it never stops. And were all very used to it now. It happens to all of us too. But i think it becomes a little worrisome whenever it feels like the media instead of just reporting what they are witnessing out there is kind of spewing things and presenting things in a way that they think would angle peoples minds in a certain direction. Ok. I wanted to talk to you about something that most people may not know that, that youre interested in animal rescue. Yes. The president signed an animal cruelty bill. I wonder if you could tell us what role you played in getting that bill signed . Im a Family Member to the p. Im not part of the administration. Hes known me and our entire family knows as the crazy animal lady. Proud to have that moniker. Whenever i first learned act the pact act and this makes animal cruelty a crime. I think many people were shocked that that was not implemented already. I had been coaxing my fatherinlaw saying listen, this is something that would be great. And blind the scenes talking to him, talking to republican congressional members saying this is snag we should support and champion. So just in that capacity, i really helped i think hopefully get him onboard with this and maybe push some people who otherwise wouldnt have considered it. I didnt realize it. So you went to capitol hill . Yes. How many members of congress did you say you would talk to . Yes. I want everybody onboard for the animals. We can all agree on that, at least. How many people would you say you talked to . Oh, my gosh. I started two and a half years ago. I couldnt tell you. I didnt realize you were the crazy animal lady. How many animal doss you have . I have two dogs and i would have 50 if our apartment would allow it. So whenever we move to a different location perhaps youll see me with a multitude and a menajory of animals. So were going to get to the lightning round. Im going to ask you a few questions. Limit yourself to a couple of words if you could. Whats a question you wish you could ask at next weeks democratic debate . Oh, my gosh. The lightning round has started. How about something along the lines of what do you feel should be done to benefit animals in this country . Since were talk about the animals. Ok. I havent heard the one yet. Whats one thing President Trump has made you said to make you cringe . [laughter] im trying to think of one. You know what, i wont tell you the name that he suggested. Hell know what it is if he sees this. But he suggested a name for our daughter that i dont think our daughter and i youve got to tell us the name. Needless to say our daughters name is caroline and with the go name he suggested to me. Ill keep that private. Maybe another time. Name another female lawmaker that you admire . You have to admire nancy pelosi. Shes been in the game for a long time. I know shes coming to speak here. She shes trying to remove your fatherinlaw from office but she has tenacity. She certainly is willing to to put down and throw down whenever she she needs to. Whether or not i agree with it, thats a different story. But you certainly can admire somebody for spending their life, you know, here in washington, d. C. And trying to serve the country. Ok. Youve spent a lot of time obviously with President Trump. What is something that would surprise us that we dont know . He doesnt always get two scoops of ice cream. I know thats shocking to a lot of people. Listen, hes such a kind hearted person. I know that most people who just get the information out there daytoday from the Mainstream Media find that hard to believe. But i can tell you, i grew up in a very small town in north carolina. I come from a middleclass family. And whenever i first met donald trump, well before he decided to run for president , he made me feel so comfortable. And welcomed me with open arms. And wanted to know about me and learn about me. Its like meeting anyone elses dad. Now the name trump added to the extra nerves when you meet your possible and future inlaw. I just know the way hes made me feel and the way he treated me. I only wish other people could see that side of him. Well, were almost out of time. I wanted to ask you one other thing. Youre a mother of two young children. Im mother myself. I know i talk to parents and im sure you do too about how much we should tell our children about whats going on in the country today. Things are so divisive these last few years. I wonder when your children get old enough what, do you want them to understand about the role that you played in Politics Today . I i just want my kids to know that i fight for something i believe it. When you believe it and, you know, the personal personally, its always the right thing to do to fight for that and to fight for what you believe in, no matter what it is. So i hope that they one day know that. And will learn that about me. I think that theyll theyll learn very quickly, that im not putting up with any nonsense from them. I have a 2yearold and a. A 3 month old. Standing up for what you believe in is probably the most important thing. Thank you for coming. Thank you. [applause] [captioning performed by national captioning institute] [captions Copyright National cable satellite corp. 2019] please welcome to the stage, anchor of fox news outnumbered overtime and cohost of outnumbered harris faulkner. [applause] wow. You guys are beautiful. Wait until you see my panel. All right. Im harris. Lets do this. [applause] were going to talk about choice, Lessons Learned from the ones weve made to the hard ones weve yet to make and the growth weve experienced from choosing one path or another. And remember there will always be ricks, heartbreak, transitions between old and new. Competition can be fierce. And even wild, unimaged success. How you handle it determines how far you will rise. Meet the panel. Tammy wincup president of protocol. [applause] chief officer of determinealogica. We were all talk about our skin care. And karen fullman, president of clear. And senator Tammy Duckworth. Democratic senator from illinois. [applause] all right. So i do a little bit of tv. And my producers say that i turn a blind eye to a clock. Well, i cant do that today. Weve got a little less than three minutes. And were going to rock it. I just ask if you havent already to put your cell phones on silent. Im going to go to my right with tammy to get us started with your definition of success. And one powerful step you took when you embarked on your journey. Tammy you know, i think that everyone defines success clearly differently. I think for for me, i am a company builder. And so this is protocol with a new Media Venture focused on the people, politics and powering technology. This is my fourth venture. And i think the idea of success in my career has been the ability to tell my own story that has em come passed both Early Stage Companies and also large organizations. But the ability to weave the risk and weave in between those in addition to marriage and three children and all of that. Success to me has been defined by being focused on the mission of the organizations that youre focused in, number one. And number two, its defining your success in each one of those but recognizing that your only one not defined of those. Success is telling your own story
