GUWAHATI: Eighty-nine people died of Covid-19 in Assam on Wednesday, while 6,143 new cases were detected in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate in the state dropped to 6.02% from 6.47% on Tuesday.
The Covid recovery rate in the state was 84.97% on Wednesday. This was after 4,057 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours.
Even after the daily tests crossed one lakh-mark on Wednesday after a long time, the increase in the number of fresh cases was by about 300, as compared to Tuesday.
The marginal improvement in positivity rate is not helping the health department to draw a conclusion. Senior health officials in Assam have predicted that the second wave of Covid-19 will reach its peak towards May-end.
