A statement by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said Mr Lawal was convicted and sentenced by the court after he pleaded guilty to the offence of obtaining money by false pretence. The judge, M. A. Odegbola, also ordered the convict to restitute $50 to his victim through the EFCC and forfeit items recovered from him to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
