CountryHouse Residence for Memory Care is hosting a 5K color run on June 20 to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer's disease.
June 20 is designated as The Longest Day, or the summer solstice, and the Alzheimer’s Association across the country uses the day to host events and bring awareness to Alzheimer’s.
“The Longest Day is our designated day for fundraising. As a memory care home, that is a huge piece of our heart which is raising funds and finding a cure for the Alzheimer's association. We have usually done something on this day, and last year was one of our first really big events,” Tessa Johnson, the director of CountryHouse said. “We did a community block party with food, live music, a petting zoo and a jumping castle. It was at our property at CountryHouse. We had an amazing turn out and a lot of community support. A lot of people donated food and the petting zoo. This summer we have been really trying to figure out what we can do. Due to COVID-19, our population is one of the most vulnerable, and we don’t want to have it at our home.”
