Counting begins for UP Panchayat elections, 2 days in process

The State Election Commission said that more than three lakh candidates were declared elected unopposed.

Counting of votes began on Sunday for lakhs of panchayat seats in Uttar Pradesh, with 829 centers expected to take two days.
The State Election Commission (SEC) said in a statement issued here on Sunday that according to information about the election results from different parts of the state, more than 1.12 lakhs have won for the post of members of the Gram Panchayat, 16,510 won. The post of head of gram panchayat, while 35,812 candidates have claimed victory on the post of members of panchayats.
