Conceptualizing Gender Apartheid The "Apartheid" Context in International Law

Afghanistan Policy Lab at Princeton’s School of Public and International Affairs holds a one-day workshop to bring together experts, activists, and stakeholders and to explore the inclusion of gender apartheid within international legal frameworks and advocate for global action to end oppressive regimes. The workshop, facilitated by APL in the SPIA D.C. Office and cohosted by Counterpart International, will be held on August 15th, 2023 and will involve both in-person and virtual participation. This workshop’s focus is on how the definition of “apartheid” under international law should be interpreted to include gender hierarchies, not just racial hierarchies. It also analyzes the Gender Apartheid concept to be expanded by a set of moral, political and legal tools available to mobilize international action against Taliban and ultimately end systems of gender apartheid.
